One of our programmers has a stored procedure that joins two views into a new table.
One of the views that it is grabbing is fairly complicated pulling from several tables, and can take quite awhile to run on its own. This stored procedure has been running on several databases for several months just fine.
After switching to sql server 2005 it started taking almost 6 hours in one of the databases.
As of now, it runs fine in one of the dbs in a few minutes and produces 50,000 records. The db that it takes almost 6 hours to complete produces only 17,000 records. The programmer has restricted the fields and gets it to run in under a minute - but it doesn't seem to matter which fields, just how many.
After 3 or 4 of the records from the complex view, it goes from running in 1 min, to almost 6 hours again - no in between. It is the same code as the database where it runs fine and produces more records.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
I have a small question regard how to find out if a specific table has chanced.
Is there any (sql)function inside MSSQL2005 that I can use to find if a spesific table has changed? I have heard of timestamp, but I don't know if that will solve my problem? Is there any thing in the sys.tables that kan help me, just do a fast query and check if a table has changed?
I'm developing a web-application with AJAX.NET, and I have UpdatePanels with datalist. When the tables in the db gets big the application is henging for a sec or two when it receiving the data, and when the timer (refresh rate) is 2 min it is not good! So my plan is to check if the table has chanced since last transfer of data, and if it has it will download the data, if not do nothing.

I have a table that is recording hits to a website. Everytime someone views a page, the datetime of the hit is recorded in a field called hit_date_time. I would like to be able to come up with a query that will show how many hits occured on a given day or given days, broken down by hour.
The resulting table for two days would look something like:
Time Hits
1/1/01 12:00 1
1/1/01 1:00 23
1/1/01 2:00 54
1/2/01 1:00 15
1/2/01 2:00 14
I can't seem to figure out how to write the query so that I can take into consideration the date and hour of the event so that I can count it.
Thanks,
Eron

I am strugling to execute a insert stored procedure on a button click. The stored procedure is taking values from a temp table and inserting them into a identical table. The procedure is expecting 1 value from a Query string, the stored procedure works as expected when hard coded.
Im completely new to this and have no idea where to begin, i have been looking through the forums for several hours and am still none the wiser.
please can someone point me in the right direction

I know I can select a row at a time and execute, or write a program, but I was looking to see if there was an easier way.Thanks.

Hi, hoping someone may be able to shed some light on this.
I have a stored procedure that conditionally executes different DTS Packages. Everything seems to work, there's no errors at all, but the DTS Packages are never executed. Wondering if anyone has any ideas.
Here's the stored procedure....
CREATE PROCEDURE exportLists
AS
DECLARE @script VARCHAR(8000)
DECLARE @id INT
DECLARE @max INT
select regionid,count(distinct homephone) as phone
into #phone
from tbl_template
Where exportid is null
group by regionid
select officeid,listpath
into #office
from tbl_office
WHERE startdate <= GETDATE()
AND (enddate >= GETDATE() OR enddate IS NULL)
and listpath is not null
and listpath <> ''
Select case when phone > 2500 then '"exportLists" /A MDBFile="' + listpath + '" /A OfficeID ="' + convert(varchar(10),officeid) + '" '
Else '"resetTemplate" /A OfficeID="' + convert(varchar(10),officeid) + '" '
end as cmd
,Identity(int,1,1) as rowno
,phone
into #temp
from #office as O
inner Join #phone as p
on o.officeid=p.regionid
Set @max=@@rowcount
set @id = 1
While @id <=@max
Begin
Select @script='"Dtsrun /S "' + @@SERVERNAME + '" /E /N ' + cmd
+ case when phone > 2500
then '/A ExportID="' + convert(varchar(10),(Select coalesce(Max(listid),0) + 1 from tbl_sf3Lists)) + '" '
else ' ' end
, @id=@id+1
from #temp
Where rowno = @id
End
Return
GO

I am trying to execute the following simple stored procedure. The procedure runs but doesn't create the table I am trying to create and doesn't insert the records into the table I created. But again, the procedure runs without any errors.
Can someone please correct the syntax so my procedure will run properly. It pretty basic.

set QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON
GO
CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[PremierData1]
