How Can I Restore A SQL 2005 Database On My SQL 2000?

Aug 4, 2007

My customer has SQL Server 2005. I have SQL Server 2000 on my laptop (on XP Pro). I believe I have an empty database the same as theirs, but I need to restore their data. They sent me a normal SQL Backup, but my laptop threw a fit and cannot work with it.

They are now trying to export the database to Microsoft Access and send me that, but I won't get that until next week now. However is there a better and easier solution for those of us with insufficient experience of this, please?

Many thanks,

Backup SQL 2000 SP4 And Restore On SQL 2005

May 26, 2006

Does anyone know if this works to where the data is viewable/usable?

I have an application that takes datasets out of the SQL database. We decommisioned our old SQL 2000 SP4 machine and brought in a SQL 2005 Server. What we did was backed up the old database and then restored it on the new Server.

Now the application does not see the old datasets but will collect new ones that are viewable. We can import older datasets but we have nearly 27 GB of data, which our DBA can see the old tables in Enterprise Manager but our applciation can't see it.

I'm thinking it might be a schema issue or the way that 2005 translate the odler 2000 SP4 database. Does anyone know, or have they run a back up on a older 2000 Server and then restored it to a 2005?

Thank you.

SQL Server 2000 Migration To SQL Server 2005 Collation Change - Method?

Jan 24, 2008

Scenario
Recently moved a SQL2000 database to SQL2005.
Collation on SQL 2000 database server was SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS
Colaltion on SQL 2005 database server is Latin1_General_CI_AS

After restoring the SQL 2000 database on SQL 2005 we observed that the database collation was SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS. We have altered the database collation to Latin1_General_CI_AS. We understand this will work for all new objects created on the database but existing objects (prior to the collation change) will continue to have the 'SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS' collation.

What is the best method to change the collation of the older columns to 'Latin1_General_CI_AS' -
1) Run ALTER TABLE ALTER COLUMN <colname> <datatype> COLLATE Latin1_General_CI_AS <nullability>
on each varchar/char column

or

2) For each table
BCP out data
DROP TABLE
RECREATE TABLE (taking the new collation Latin1_General_CI_AS)
BCP in data

3) Other methods?

Thanks in advance
David.

Backup/Restore - An Alternate Method?

Nov 4, 1998

For a backup strategy, I was thinking of just copying over all the system and user database device (DAT) files (of course after stopping all
the SQL services at a time when no one is accessing the database server). Then at the time of restoration, I would copy the files back to their
original location.

Does anyone see any problems with this strategy?

Nov 29, 2007

Hi.

We are going to upgrade one of our SQL Server 2000/Win200 instance to SQL Server 2005/Win2003. Currently, the SQL Server 2000 which contains about 30 database. This is my plan:

Install SQL Server 2005/Win2003 on a new instance
Backup SQL Server 2000 database instance (how do I back all 30 database at the same time?)

Then do a Restore from the SQL Server 2005 instanceIs this a good method or using the "Copy Database Wizard" is better method?

I'm new to this so please advice? Thanks!

Backup/Restore Vs Attach/Detach 2000 Database To 2005

Jul 15, 2006

I'm trying to see the differences between Backup/Restore and Attach/Detach. I backup and detach a database from SQL Server 2000 SP3 and then attach and restore it to SQL Server 2005 SP1.

The differences I noticed are:

1. The restored database has a much larger initial size (database size is same) for data and log.
2. The attached database has a last backup date
3. If the backup is restored over a database, the restored database is showing owned by the database owner of the database restored over but syslogins and sysusers do not match.

I don't understand why #1 happens.

Are there any other differences between Backup/Restore and Attach/Detach?

Thanks,

Peter

Deployment Method - Backup/restore Vs. Batch File?

Jun 4, 2008

Not sure this is the correct forum, but I'll give it a go. I am in the process of deploying a series of databases from a development environment to a production environment. I've done some searching around best practices, but haven't found anything specifically calls out what is best. I am looking to find out the best approach for moving the code/tables/views/SP's, well everything from my dev environment to the production environment. Due to the complexity and large number of objects to be created, would a backup/restore to the production server be more prudent than creating a batch file type thing that creates all the objects through a series of scripts?

Restore Backup From SQL Server 2000 In SQL Server 2005?

Jan 29, 2008

I was running Small Business Server 2003 with MS SQL Server 2000. I put backups of all my SQL Server 2000 databases on hard disk d: and the operating system and applications on c:/. I then reformatted c:/ (but left d:/ intact) and installed Windows XP Home. Then I installed MS SQL Server 2005 Developer's Edition.

I would like to now restore the backups of the SQL Server 2000 databases (still intact on drive d:/) to SQL Server 2005, but I get a variety of error messages.

I suspect that I am going about this the wrong way. I have done several hours of research in the documentation without success. I cannot attach the SQL Server 2000 database to SQL Server 2005 because it is a backup, not a database. I cannot migrate the databases as part of the installation of SQL Server 2005 because (a) they are back-ups, and (b) I don't have SQL Server 2000 installed when I install SQL Server 2005.

Is there a solution?

TIA

ShowhideToggle For Render Method ? - Ssrs 2000

Apr 26, 2007

Hi there.

I had been looking around for some info about this.

So far I understand that the showhidetoggle parameter determines which drilldowns are visible or hidden.

I am trying to use the render method, and try to show the drilldowns on my html page.

First question:

How does the showhidetoggle work in the URL or even show an example of how the drilldowns work through showhidetoggle ? In other words, how does the showhidetoggle knows which one to display if I have only one string value ? Maybe there is another way to do this or another way to define this syntax ?

Second question:

How do i determine the number or the string parameter without having to look through html ? is there a way to do this so that I can pass this string to the parameter in the ASMX ?

Thanks for reading this post !
