Wrong Version Returned

Nov 30, 2006

When I execute the query "Select @@VERSION as 'SQL Server Version'" from SQL
Server Management Studio Express, I get '2005 - 9.00......." returned as the
version. When I execute the same query from a VB 6 program, I get "Microsoft
SQL Server 2000 - 8.00.760 (Intel X86)" returned.

What is odd is the VB 6 program had been returning '2005' within the last
two weeks. I have not uninstalled or re-installed 2005 in my environment.

I also executed the following at the command prompt and recieved SQL 2000:

"C:Documents and SettingsAdministrator>sqlcmd -S MARKB-LTXP -U SA -P
medw.1 -q "select @@version"

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dec 17 2002 14:22:05
Copyright (c) 1988-2003 Microsoft Corporation
Personal Edition on Windows NT 5.1 (Build 2600: Service Pack 2)"

When I execute 'exec master..xp_msver' as a query, 2005 is returned but when done from my VB 6 program I get 2000 returned...

Any ideas?

Separating One Field Into Two Fields Based On A Character In The Field

Jul 20, 2005

I know there has to be a way to do this, but I've gone brain dead. Thescenario..a varchar field in a table contains a date range (i.e. June 1,2004 - June 15, 2004 or September 1, 2004 - September 30, 2004 or...). Theusers have decided thats a bad way to do this (!) so they want to split thatfield into two new fields. Everything before the space/dash ( -) goes intoa 'FromDate' field, everything after the dash/space goes into the 'ToDate'field. I've played around with STRING commands, but haven't stumbled on ityet. Any help at all would be appreciated! DTS?

No Results Returned When Using BIT Field

Oct 16, 2007

Hi,
 I've got what is probably a simple question, but for the life of me I cannot figure it out and it is starting to do my head in .  I have the following query:-
Select e.intEmployeeID AS ID, e.txtFirstName AS [First Name], e.txtLastName As [Last Name], e.txtMobile As [Mobile], i.txtWorkEmail as from EMPLOYEE AS e INNER JOIN EMPLOYEE_INFORMATION AS i ON i.intEmployeeID = e.intEmployeeID WHERE (((e.blnActive = -1) AND (e.txtFirstName Like '%b%')) OR ((e.blnActive = -1) AND (e.txtLastName Like '%b%')) ) ORDER By e.txtFirstName
In my database, the field blnActive is a BIT field.  When I try to run this query, I get no results returned.  If I remove the (e.blnActive = -1) WHERE statement segment, I get the correct results.  The field blnActive contains -1 for every record but I cannot work out why it will not return these records .... aaarrrrggghhhh
Thanks to those who feel my pain !!

Duplicate Entries In Returned SQL Field

Jan 3, 2007

Hi All !

Below is a snippet of MS SQL inside ASP that retieves
Commodity info such as product names and related information and returns the results in an ASP Page. My problem is that with certain searches, elements returned in the synonym field repeat. For instance, on a correct search I get back green, red, blue, and yellow which is correct. On another similar search different commodity say for material, I get Plastic, Glass,Sand - Plastic, Glass,Sand - Plastic Glass Sand. I want to remove the repeating elements returned in this field. I hope this makes sense.

PS I tried to use distinct but with no luck I want just one of each in the example below.

Thanks in Advance!

Transact SQL :: Value In Field Not Returned By WHERE Clause

ITEM. When I query the table to show all of the records like this:
Select * from Exclude_Cusno_Item

The result set contains a record with 'AAA' in the ITEM field.  However, where I write a query with a WHERE clause to select this specific 'AAA' record like this:

Select * from Exclude_Cusno_Item where item = 'AAA'

I get no results. What could be happening that would prevent the 'AAA' record from appearing in the result set of this query? Note that the 'AAA' entry has no trailing or leading blanks.

No Results Returned By SELECT Against Datetime Field

Jan 8, 2004

I am trying to pull results from an SQL Server DB into an dataset where a particular field (SMALLDATETIME) is within a particular date range. The code I was using worked fine when the database was in Access. I have made several changes already but am still getting 0 results returned when there is data that should be returned.

I was using in Access:
Dim StrSQL = "SELECT ID FROM myTable WHERE myDateField>=#" & startDate & "# AND myDateField<=#" & stopDate & "# ORDER BY ID"
I have changed this for SQL Server to:
Dim StrSQL = "SELECT ID FROM myTable WHERE myDateField>='01/01/2003 00:00:01' AND myDateField<='01/01/2004 23:59:59' ORDER BY ID"
But I am always returned 0 results even if the date range should return plenty of data. I have also tried using the BETWEEN structure with the same result.

Is there a particular format for the date I am comparing with?
Am I missing something else in my query?

The connection / permissions and everything else are correct as I can read and write data to the database in numerous other pages. It is just this date comparison that is not working.

Many thanks for any help or comments you can provide.

Select Into Outfile: Wrong Field Length

Oct 29, 2005

Hi,

I have to export data from a database in a special form (the customer wants it this way): every record in one line, and all fields in a large string. Thus, only by convendion it is defined the first seven characters being the central number, the next fivr characters the number of this spare part type, the following 30 the description, and so on...
Just at the end of every record has to be CF-LF.

all works well so far by with this code (in PHP) -
except one thing - see details below the code snippet):

$q1 = "SELECT dirc_matdata.* FROM dirc_vorgang, dirc_matdata ";
$q2 = "WHERE dirc_vorgang.rep_out> '".$anf_dat."'";
$q3 = "AND dirc_vorgang.rep_out < '".$end_dat."'";
$q4 = "AND dirc_matdaten.auftrags_nr = dirc_vorgang.auftrags_nr";
$q5 = "INTO outfile '".$drive.":/matdata.dat'";
$q6 = "FIELDS TERMINATED BY '' LINES TERMINATED BY '
';";
$query = $q1.' '.$q2.' '.$q3.' '.$q4.' '.$q5.' '.$q6;

The INT (integer) fields appear in the (plain text) output file with wrong field lengths. Although I had set the first field (i.e. the number of this type ofparts) to a length of 5, this field appears in the outfile being 10 characters long -- the maximum length of a normal INT type field (and twice as long as it should be).

Or (when set to filed type "MEDIUMINT"), it appears in the length of 8 characters only. But I need this data exactly 5 characters long in this application.

BIG QUESTION: How can I make mySQL (Ver. 4.1) write this fields into the outfile with their correct length as defined in the database structure?

Is this flaw already known in the community?
Is there any sort of "workaround"?

Thank you for every hint!

Inflated Number Of Records Returned When Adding Bit Field Criteria

Jul 20, 2005

When querying a bit field, I am encountering a problem with MS SQLServer returning a larger number of records for a table than theactual number of records that exist within that table.For example, my customer table has 1 million unique records, so theresults of the following query are as such:select count(customer_nbr) from customer = 1,000,000There is bit field in the customer table that denotes whether acustomer has placed an order with us called. That flag is calledorder_flagIf I run the following query:select count(customer_nbr) from customer where order_flag = 1The result is 3,000,000 records.There is no logical way that this is possible, as my table onlycontains 1,000,000 unique records and the number of customers with anorder should be a subset of this.If a run the above query with a distinct before customer number, I getthe results I want:select count(distinct customer_nbr) from customer where order_flag = 1600,000 records.So while I can get to the answer I want, I have no idea why I amreturning incorrect values if I don't select distinct.Can anyone help? I checked microsoft support and message boards buthaven't seen anything.I should note that the bit field is indexed.I am not sure if that isthe problem or not.

Convert With Character Field And Datetime

Jan 29, 2007

Hi,

I am getting a date string that is contained in a character field (char(20)).

An example of the data is as follows:

2005-09-20121315001

it is in the format YYYY-MM-DDHHMMSSMMM.

I want to insert this value into a datetime field. I have used convert, but can only insert it when I split out the time portion and separate them with a colon

i.e. to get it to insert into a datetime field the data has to be in the following format

2005-09-20 13:15:18.001

YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS.MMM

Is there a style parameter in the convert function that will allow me to insert this value without having to separate the hours/minutes/seconds with a colon? I have tried BOL but it seems that all the examples have colons in them where there is a time portion to the date,

Thanks in advance

Can I Split A Field Based On A Character?

Nov 9, 2005

Here's a question for the SQL gurus out there:
I have a varchar(20) field DIAGNOSISCODE in a table that can either be null, or contain up to 3 comma-separated codes, each of which relates to a description in another table. For example, some sample rows might be
8060
8060,4450
8060,4123,3245
Now I need to structure a query to return these values from this single field as three fields CODE1, CODE2, CODE3, with NULL as appropriate for example
CODE1=8060, CODE2=4450, CODE3=NULL.
I have been using CASE along with CHARINDEX and PATINDEX but it it becoming extremely messy. Can anyone think of a "neater" way to return three fields from this one field?
Any help very greatly appreciated.

where _bisnumber=10375

I will get:

BisStartDate                                             BisStartDateutc

2014-07-29 00:00:00.000                      2014-07-29 05:00:00.000

*in CRM, datetime is saved in 2 fields, one is the current time, the other one is the utc time.

You can see the offset  between the datetime and utc is 5 hours.

However when the same statement was running inside a SSIS package on the server, the result returned is:

BisStartDate                                             BisStartDateutc

2014-07-28 23:00:00.0000000            2014-07-29 05:00:00.000

And if I do

datediff(MINUTE,CRMAF_BisSection.ttc_section_startdatetimeutc,CRMAF_BisSection.ttc_section_startdatetime)

I will get -5 if I run it in ManagementStudio and -6 is running on server package(running inside VisualStudio will be -5, same as running a query in ManagementStudio).

I think when the record was saved, “date” is 5 hours offset to UTC time but now the system use the current utc offset which is 6 hours. I just want to use the BisStartDate as it is. How do I let the SSIS turn off the conversion.

The same datatime is saved in another system then we compare them to check the data entry. Now because of this one hour difference, sometime the Day will be different.

T-SQL (SS2K8) :: Wrap Varchar Field Based On Character Count And Spaces

Dec 8, 2014

Because of a limitation on a piece of software I'm using I need to take a large varchar field and force a carriage return/linebreak in the returned sql. Allowing for a line size of approximately 50 characters, I thought the approach would be to first find the 'spaces' in the data, so as to not split the line on a real word. achieve.

--===== Simulate a passed parameter
DECLARE @Parameter VARCHAR(8000)
SET @Parameter = (select a_notes
from dbo.notestuff as notes
where a_id = '1')

[Code] .....
