I Want To Test Break Of Mirror Db When Syncronization No Longer Possible

Hi
I am testing high performance mirror on my local PC
mirroring set on db Northwind between default and named instance
on default (principal) server have few jobs
1. insert into table A,run every 1 minute
2. backup log of Northwind ,run every 10 minute
3. stop named instance ,run every 15 minutes
4. start named instance ,run every 20 minutes
After each stop/ start mirrored db very quickly synchronized .
I want to test break of mirror db when synchronization no longer possible
any suggestions ?
We want to place 70 GB db in mirror 300 km away and I want test everything
All possible break scenario

Hi we have a table with about 400000 records in it. It starting to take longer and longer to add a new record. I was thinking of creating another identical table and archiving off most of the records every month (we are now adding about about 4000 records a day) . Is this the best thing to do?
I don't know a lot about sql server so any help or suggestions would be great

The following code is taking longer and longer to run. I am not talking about the gradualy increase in size. this job has been taking 30-40 mins normaly and in the last few days it has gone 1hr to 2 hr to 3 hr... ANy ideas why this is happening? I can not see and other jobs running at this time.

Could someone please confirm the best way for me to set up the WSW. Having installed the Sql 2005 CE Server Agent and configured WSW I can now use the Url http://branch.companyname.co.uk/rdatest/sqlcesa30.dll and get the Server Agent to return a string. So far so good I can use the Pda to connect to my IIS Server. I have set the WSW for Anonymous access using the IUSR account for simplicity. My Sql 2005 Database is located on a separate server which I can locate from my IIS server using the following connection string.
"server=172.18.22.222; database=Audit; uid=steve; pwd=letmein"
My Sql 2005 database 'Audit' uses Sql Authentication. What considerations do I need to make in my WSW setup for
1. Anonymous access to IIS Server
2. Sql Authentication on separate Sql server
3. Will the connection string work in my SqlCeRemoteDataAccess instance when attempting RDA Pull method
4. What security access do I need to allow for in my Sql 2005 database access rights if any
Am I also right in thinking that for IIS basic access with Sql Authentication I need to provide Internetlogin and Internetpassword values for the properties of the SqlCERemoteDataAccess instance? If so do we enter the login and password for the IIS server or the Sql 2005 database server? The Sql Database login and password is passed through my connection string in my RDA.Pull method.

Sometimes, after a failed merge replication(due to communication error) some rows on the subscriber became invisible for the publisher.
I've reproduced a case:

I could code a system that checks all the publication tables and updates all the last generation rows in case of communication error but i would really like to avoid doing it.
I don't know if I'm missing something or if this is a bug or a known issue.
This is a big problem for me because communication errors on cellular phone based connection are quite common and users keep working even if there's an error.
Any comment will be appreciated.

Hi! I am developing a CF 2.0 application for WM 6.0. In the application I'm doing a replication between a Sql Server 2005 database and a Sql Server 2005 Compact Edition database. When I'm trying to syncronize the databases for the first time, e.g., creating a new database with AddSubscription(AddOption.CreateDatabase)I cannot do a save afterwards the synchronization procedure. The synchronization works just fine and I get the right data to my device and so, but when I try to a save, the database hangs doing the commit().
If I'm on the otherhand restarts the application and then do a ReinitializeSubscription(true), e.g., doesn't not create a new database with AddSubscription(AddOption.CreateDatabase), and calls Synchronize(), everything works just fine. Anyone who has an explanation of this? (I do a Dispose() each time).

After adding the Witness Server to the Mirror session, the Witness Connection state between the Mirror and Witness Connection is Disconnected and the state between Principal and Witness Connection is Connected.
The procedures defined in Books Online was used to setup Database Mirroring...when the Witness server was added to the Mirror session, only the alter database T-SQL statement was executed on the Principal server.
ALTER DATABASE <db_name> SET WITNESS = 'TCP://<servername>:<port>'
After executing the above statement, a few seconds later the state between Principal and Witness Connection changed to Connected and the state between Mirror and Witness Connection remains Disconnected.
The Mirror session is not using Certificates, every server is on the same domain, using the same domain login account, and all servers have SP2 installed running Enterprise Edition.
Any idea's why the state between Mirror and Witness Connection remains Disconnected?

I was trying to test mirroring and now would like to delete the mirror database but it says I need to remove database mirroring first. I deleted the endpoint and cannot figure out how to remove the mirroring. Can someone please help.

Why does it take longer and longer for the same code to run very simply I have 8,0000,000 records I want to delete from a table . I have tried a few options
Option 1 a while loop which deletes 10,000 rows per loop starting from the earliest until it hits the cut of number I have set. THIS TOOK 5 HOURS
Option 2 created an SP which found the oldest 100,000 records then deleted them. If I run this SP manually it takes 30 €“ 60 secs. Which I thought was much better than above. So I put this SP in a while loop to run 80 odd times thinking the time it would take would be 80 mins a huge improvement.
But every time this SP is called it takes longer and longer (36,30,32,39,37,37,123,163,155,182€¦and so on(In seconds)).
All the sp is doing is as follows(8860000 is just to insure I don€™t delete to much). this sp is then called from in a while loop.

We are setting up a test lab environment with 100 machines. Â We want one master testing db that gets replicated to each to run scripted application tests nightly. Â
My goal is to minimize the amount of work to move this thing to each of the 100 test machines. Â I am wondering if we need to even have the sql local and invest in a monster db server with 100 copies of the db we restore and each test machine point to their own db on that server, or if I should use db mirroring or something to get the master test db to each of those machines instead.

I have a report with several matrix objects. The data contained in each matrix is simple. One matrix has one column of labels and a column of data. The other has 3 columns of data. Both matrix's only show about 25 rows of data. A variable amount of data is displayed above the matrix's so that sometime the render across a page boundary. Whenever this happens the matrix doesn't render rows down to the bottom of the page. A considerable amount of empty space is left on the page, the completed matrix is displayed on the next page. I'm wondering how to get the matrix to render in this empty space.
This problem only occurs when I view the report on screen, in the Visual Studio "Preview" window, or from the Report Server web site. Tiff, pdf and printed output doesn't contain the extra space.
I've tried adding my matrix to a List and a Rectangle to see of this would fix the problem but it didn't help.
I've check the dimensions and margins or the page and I don't think I have any sizing problems, everything should fit on the page.

Hello, been having issue w/ symantec backup exec 12 for the past few months trying to backup the database files on a x64 windows 2003 sp2 server. After talking to about 6 techs from symantec, I finally come across this error and am told to contact microsoft.
I had created a .udl file to test the connection between the media server and the SQL server. It tested successfully from the media -> sql. Then I created a .udl on the SQL server to test it there, however when I tried to select the OLE DB provider for microsoft SQL server, I got the following error: "Microsoft Data Link Error: Provider is no longer available.Ensure that the provider is installed properly."
If anyone knows how to fix this issue easily that would be great. Thank you in advance.

I could use a little help here. We have a stored procedure that runs on SQL2000 and for a large dataset only takes 1-2 minutes. On SQL2005 however, it takes around 25 minutes. Any advice or insight anyone could give would be great.

Hi,
we are running a Windows Application(.Net 2.0) against a MS SQL Server 2000 on WinXP. The application is able to succesefully connect to Database and execute "smaller stored procedure". The application also must execute a stored proc that returns 2M rows for export into a flat file.
When executing the stored proc from a remote box with 512M or less RAM(slow box), the application receives the error:
A transport-level error has occurred when receiving results from the server. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - The specified network name is no longer available.)
If a box has 1G or RAM or more, application seems running fine.
Now, I have the application running on a slow box, watching memory usage, and it seems fine - the memory acquired by the application never exceded 39M of RAM, so I'm still not clear why connection is being closed.
Also, there seem to be no mesages from MS SQL server in Event Log.
The problem is that I have to make the app run on a "slow box".
Any ideas or comments are appreciated (somebody, please, help me ;-) )

We moved a 2000 database to another platform by restoring the database. It took a lot longer than I expected. Would it take less time to restore it a second time to the same target database since the allocations are already there?

Is there a way to have a memo field in a table that is larger than 255 characters? I like to have a memo field of of about 1000 characters of text.

I have a field which was varchar before but I changed it to text.
But i can't write in it enough text as i wish. This field is important becouse it holds SQL senences which i parse latter in my application and than i execute it.
it says <Long Text> and i can't enter any more characters.

Getting "The specified network name is no longer available" during SQL Backups dumping to Network share.
- problem started occurring on July 3, 2015
- our Ola Hallengren backup solution deployed to over 150 SQL Servers.. was running fine for almost 2 years
- Occurring in multiple SQL Server environments: W/Server 2012 Ent, W/Server 2008 Ent, SQL 2012 Ent, SQL 2008 R2 Ent
- We're utilizing latest Ola Hallengren backup solution (Jan 2015 release)
- Dumping to network share (jobs running under SQL Agent account w/ local admin & sysadmin on server and full rights to Network Share

Currently I have a server that has two instances of SQL Server that areboth heavily used. We are moving the databases that are on the defaultinstance of this server to a new server. Since the old server willonly need one instance (the current named instance) of SQL Server isthere a good way to remove the default instance and make the namedinstance the default? If this change is possible will the name of thecurrent named instance need to be changed? Will all of the programscurrently accessing the named instance need to change their connectionstring?

Hi folks,A DTS package we have run for years now no longer works. The specificpart that is not working is a subquery in the SOURCE object of atransformation. The source is based on a Microsoft Data Link to aSybase database (DSN changed a couple months ago but the connectionstring was updated successfully for the new 12.51 version of ASE) andthe destination is a link to a local SQL Server 2000 database.The transformation has always worked and when I remove the subqueryeverything works OK. I'm running an ISP database in SQL 6.5 which has a table 'calls'. When thenew month starts I create a new table with the same fields and move the dataof previous month into that table and delete it from calls. Whyis that?This causes problems because user authentication stops when this query isrunning which means users cant connect to the internet.

I have a table with some sensitive customer data in it. I am nowkeeping all the data in another table, and encrypting it. I want toget rid of the original unencrypted data and be sure that it is nolonger anywhere on disk. Should I drop the table, or first delete therows and then do a dump tran? I'm not sure how to know if the data isactually physically deleted from disk, or if it's still there, butjust in blocks that get marked as available.
