Am new to these forums, and wasn't sure if this question should go here or the DB2 forum so apoligies if it's the wrong one.
The problem is I have a piece of software that needs to connect via excel to the Iseries using "IBM DB2 UDB for Iseries OLE DB provider" however that isn't an option in my excel datalink providers on my PC.
I have tried reinstalling client access, deinstalling it and doing a full install , and also a selective install, each time the OLE DB box under Dataaceess is ticked, but still does not appear, (we are running V5R3, and windows XP with office 2003). I have checked Microsoft MDAC and that is fine.
Is there anywhere I can download this or can someone tell me what I am doing wrong or am I having some sort of blond moment?
Is it possible to import "IBM DB2 UDB for iSeries .NET data provider" into Reporting Services 2005? I tried to do it but was unsuccessful. I'm attempting to access data on our IBM i-Series(AS/400) and I need to pass parameters in my datasets. I appreciate any assistance you can give me.
I'm trying to build a DTS package which would send data to AS400 after deleting existing data from AS400 table first. At the moment I can't make it because:
1) If I'm using "IBM DB2 UDB for iSeries OLE DB Provider" as a data source, I can't store the password in the connection which is really really strange?? Because the password isn't saved, the package can't be scheduled because someone needs to type in the password. Stupid.
2) If I'm using "iSeries Access ODBC Driver" I can't execute SQL DELETE over that connection. SELECT Works well but DELETE won't work. I'll get error message which says "HResult of 0x80040e14 (-2147217900) returned. Unexpected error occured. An error result was returned without an error message."
3) Transform Data Task fails when I'm using "iSeries Access ODBC Driver". Error message says that the number of failing rows exceeds the maximum. If I'll raise the max error number, the step executes, but 0 records are sent.
Somehow I get this feeling, that with "iSeries Access ODBC Driver" I cannot send, delete, update etc in AS400 and with "IBM DB2 UDB for iSeries OLE DB Provider" it could be done IF the password could be stored in connection.
Help anybody? How to store the password in OLE DB or how to delete & send data with ODBC connection.
Hi there, I am trying to use the new ListView control in VS2008 in an ASP.Net app. My problem starts already with the datasource. I drag and drop a SqlDataSource and select Microsoft SQL Server Compact 3.5 (.NET Framework Data Provider for Microsoft SQL Server Compact 3.5) I can connect to the database and test the query in the wizard (I do not need to use a password??) This is the webconfig entry <add name="ConnectionString" connectionString="Data Source=C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server Compact Editionv3.5SamplesNorthwind.sdf" providerName="Microsoft.SqlServerCe.Client.3.5"/> I add the following line in the page load event AppDomain.CurrentDomain.SetData("SQLServerCompactEditionUnderWebHosting", true); However I get the error message that the data provider cannot be found and it might not be installed. I added the reference and also gave the folder above ASP.NET full access rights. Anyone else encountered this problem. It is quiet strange? Thanks a lot for your help. Cheers, Chris
I've got a big problem with the Analysis Services. I have a SQL Server 2000 SP3 and the Analysis Services SP3 running. The SQL Server has no problems. When I try to browse the Data of any cube, the following error message occurs: "Provider cannot be found. It may not be properly installed." When I try to browse other cubes after this, the error message "unknown error" occurs. The databases, on which the cubes are based are both Access2k and SQL Server 2k. The error even appears at the test cubes from Microsoft, so it cannot be simply a problem of the database.
i do not understand. I have this code: #import "C:Program FilesCommon FilesSystemADOmsado15.dll" no_namespace rename("EOF", "EndOfFile") ... _ConnectionPtr Conn; ... CoInitialize(NULL); HRESULT hr = Conn.CreateInstance(__uuidof(Connection)); Conn->Provider = "Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0"; Conn->ConnectionString="Data Source=c:\mydb.mdb;"; hr = Conn->Open( "","Admin","", adConnectUnspecified); Whith My account this code work good, but when i try to start my program whith another user login, i have this error: hr=0x800a0e7a -> Provider cannot be found. It may not be properly installed. Why by my login program run normal, but by another login failed? OS Xpsp2 whith standart MDAC 2.8 installed.
I have Windows XP professional with sp2 installed on my computer, with SQL 2K personal edition. I try to use enterprise manager, return all rows in any table, and i get the error "provider cannot be found. It may not be properly installed". After running component checker, I found the msdasql.dll can not be registered.
I'm Getting "Report Server WMI Provider error: Not Found" when trying to Grant Database Access while configuring the Reporting Sevices Integration. Logging in fine to the DB. Tried all the WMI troublshooting and can't find any issues there. Any tips?
i have recently started to work with the analysis services and i am having some problems.
i have made a web application that for now just tries to connect to an analysis server.
The server is installed on an xp sp 2 system.
for testing, i used my local computer, which is running also win xp sp2. After deploying, the application can connect to the AS server on the other machine. the problem occurs when i try to deploy the applicatuion on the production server, which is running win 2k3 server on 32 bit. When deploying, i use the same connection string, so it should try to connect to the AS server installed on a win xp sp2 system.
The first thing that came to my mind was to check the MDAC versions, be cause of the message: "Provider cannot be found. It may not be properly installed."
on my computer, where the application worked ok, the version is MDAC 2.8 SP 1 Windows XP SP 2
on the win2k3 server, the MDAC version is : MDAC 2.8 SP2.... i thought it was the version of the service pack, so o searched for the update of MDAC 2.8 SP1, trying to install mdac 2.8 sp2 to see if i was to see the same error, but i found that mdac 2.8 sp2 is only for win2k3 server, and for win xp is mdac 2.8 sp1, according to this link: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/884103
Now i got confused and have no clues how to make this work...
I am using windows 2003 server and i have installed SSAS 2005 and configured http request for AS 2005 with this below url : http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/sql/2005/httpasws.mspx. I had tried all the possiblities given in this url. But i am getting like "Test connection failed because of error initializing provider. The HTTP Server returned the following error : Not found" when i create udl file. Moreover i have installed MSOLAP 3.0 and OLAP 9.0 provider and MSXML 6.0 Parser.
We are having trouble connecting to an IBM DB2 on iSeries data source in SSIS. In SQL2000 DTS we had no trouble connecting to this data source using an ODBC DSN. We have tried using the OLE DB providers for iSeries that comes with SQL2005. We are able to connect, but are unable to retrieve column information to use in mapping to a SQL2005 data destination. Has anyone successfully made this type of connection and data flow in SSIS? If so, please tell us how you did it. Thanks in advance!
I am using SSIS to move data from SQL Server 2000 to DB2 on the Iseries. I am using DB2OLEDB provider to connect to the DB2 database. The problem I am running into is the DB2 Timestamp format is 'yyyy-mm-dd-hh.mi.ss' and I am unable to get my Date format correct.
Inside SSIS I have created a custom script to and parse the SQL date to this format using a string but I can cast the string back to date format.
Hello, I'm not up to speed on the IBM database and provider technologies, and I have an issue that I'm not clear on. I am using the .Net ODBC Data Provider in a connection mananger. The DSN uses the iSeries Access ODBC Driver. I have iSeries Access for Windows version 5 release 4 installed on laptop where I have built the package.
I have a sql command configured in a DataReader source that uses the connection manager. Between the source and sql server table destination, I have a Derived Column transform that converts the columns from Unicode to non unicode data.
When I run the package, I get an error that states that the package failed because a particular column, 'ADDR1' is set to fail if truncation occurs. I set up error output to a text file so that I could look at the failing row(s). The text file had to be set up using UTF-8 before it would accept data. The ADDR1 column at the destination will accept 30 characters. The data in the ADDR1 column of the failing row is 19 characters long, but I think there is a carriage return character present. I have tried TRIM in the exression for the column, but no luck. I have tried code pages 65001, and 37 in the Derived Column transform, but that has not worked. I remembered to set up DefaultCodePage and AlwaysUseDefaultCodePage for the OLE DB destination for each code page change.
Am I not using the correct code page, or do I need to do something else to clean up the data?
When I created a linked Server to the DB2 on iseries ( V4R5) , the SELECT statement fetches me only the first record and the following message appears.
OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "DB2TEST" returned message "[IBM][Client Access Express ODBC Driver (32-bit)]Driver not capable.".
Msg 7330, Level 16, State 2, Line 1
Cannot fetch a row from OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "DB2TEST".
I am using 'MSDASQL' which refers to the DSN setup on my machine using the ODBC "Client Access Driver 32-bit"
Strangely when I used the same DSN in SQL 2000 within the DTS package, I was able to connect and import data and worked like a charm.
I have created a DTS package in SQL 2000 that connects to AS/400 via IBM iSeries Client Access ODBC drivers version R52. I got an error everytime I tried to use the GETDATE() function as follow:
Error Source : Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers Error Description : [IBM][iSeries ODBC Driver][DB@ UDB]SQL0204 - GETDATE in *LIBL Type *N not found
I have created a stored procedure on the iSeries that creates a cursor and opens it. I am trying to write my report to use the stored procedure. I cannot get the data source to work. How do I create my data source so that it uses the stored procedure? My SP has three parameters I am trying to pass from the report. The parms are created in the layout.
I have installed the trial enterprise edition of sql server 2005. I am trying to recreate a dts packages. I am using an iseries OLE DB provider. In the data flow the connection to a physical file that has string data gets translated into binary data. Has any one gotten a download to work with the correct data?
I have developed an SSIS Package which uses an ODBC connection to an AS400 iseries stored procedure. I use an Execute SQL Task. The query is Call Doctrack.PubFeed(?,?,?,?). The procedure takes 2 input parameters and 2 output parameters (3rd and 4th parameters) The data types of the output parameters are an integer and varchar.  As part of the procedure data is inserted into a table on the iseries.Â
When I run the package using breakpoints to view the values of the variables I see that the stored procedure returns values for the output parameters and the execute SQL task is a success and proceeds to the next task in the package. The whole package ends successfully. However, when the table on the iseries is checked nothing has been inserted into it. To test further, I manually run the procedure on the iseries using the same parameters. The run is successful. And when the table is checked, there are in fact new rows inserted.
What can possibly be the issue since I am not getting any errors when I run the package? Oh I should add that prior to the execute Sql Task, there is a data flow task which moves data from a SQL Server database to a table on the iseries (successfully) using the same ODBC connection. The execute sql tasks uses that information for the Stored procedure.

An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. I am getting this error and using this connection string Data Source=192.168.0.100;Network Library=DBMSSOCN;Initial Catalog=ENet;User ID=eonline;Password=eonline; What can be solution for this.
Hi, I am working on VS 2005 and using SQL 2005 Express and i am processing excel files and inserting records in data base as i processing starts and almost after processing 600 i got this error provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server. how can i solve that thanx
Hi, My .NET 2005 application is on a server outsite company's domain. SQL server is in domain and port for sql server is open. TCP/IP is set for remote connection in SQL Server. Connection string in .config is <add name="X_Conn" connectionString="Data Source=XXX;Initial Catalog=XXX;User ID=XX; Password=XXX;" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/> I receive the error below: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) thanks a lot in advance!
We just changed the dev environment to sqlagent. From then we were unable to see the reports on the report server because:
An error has occurred during report processing.
Cannot create a connection to data source 'IHRSDataSource'.
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)
this error is cropping up.
To Resolve this issue, we checked the Surface Area Configuration and also checked the Reporting Service Configuration . There seem to be no problem and everything looks ok.

I am new to dotnet. I tried connecting to the database MS SQL Server 2000. I gave the code like, the one below, in form load event,
SqlDataReader dr = null;
SqlConnection myConnection = new SqlConnection("Data Source=IP;Initial Catalog=name;User Id=uid;Password=pwd;");
myConnection.Open();
myConnection.Close();
But I could not connect. The error message highlights the line myConnection.Open() and displays the error

It tries connecting to SQL Server 2005. There is no SQL Server 2005 in that system. There is only SQL Server 2000.
I have the aspx code in my local system and the database in another machine.
Could Someone please help me out in solving this problem.
I realised this has been done to death, and so much information out there but I am still in a quandry.
I have had to rebuild my computer.
This is what I did
XP machine using SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition using Windows Authentication NZ6(MSSQLSERVER)
straight default install all the way
unfortunately when ready to run reports from my instance(computer) I received the error as in provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server
thought I had it all okayed but obviously something not right
so ended up unistalling then - did the following:
Load SQL Server from disc1 and start install failed on alter Counter Registry key error fixed this from KB article (known error that can happen) restarted Went to Windows Update check IIS is installed - tick is on - IIS - admin tools - make sure asp2 is associated - yes ok Then back to install sql server - there is no instance set up yet Disk 2 and setup .exe
All ok on Reporting Services, Analysis etc.
But once again all seems fine but still getting the error:
connection is all fine in Management Studio - eg I can see tables etc connection is all fine in Business Intelligence - eg I can preview my reports I then can deploy up to - NZ6 open NZ6 eports report is there fine - but just errors
some simple little tick that I have not done!!
I seem to have checked and rechecked everything and obviously doing another re-install does not seem a logical step from here. I will continue to check but if someone jump in and advise please would be great.
I am creating a web site using Visual Studio 2008 & trying to connect to database on SQL Server 2000. My test connection is successful but while debugging the page I am getting this error : " provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server "
Solutions recommended for this were start running the SQL browser instance and enable Namespipes in Sqlserver configuration manager.Did both.. but nothing worked.
I made a Web page, and it works perfect on my local machine, everything is OK, until I uloaded page to the server, it reports this error:
