Remove Export Options From ReportViewer Control

Feb 26, 2008

I found this method that will remove export options from a server report when called through ReportViewer. I like this one because you dont need to have a web reference to the SQL server to loop though each rendering extension. How do you call this method if for example, if wanted to remove the XML format from a particular report? I have tried ReflectivelySetVisibilityFalse("XML"), but no luck. Any clues?

private void ReflectivelySetVisibilityFalse(RenderingExtension extension)
{
FieldInfo info = extension.GetType().GetField(€œm_serverExtension€?,
BindingFlags.NonPublic | BindingFlags.Instance);
if (info != null)
{
object actualExtension = info.GetValue(extension);
if (actualExtension != null)
{
PropertyInfo propInfo = actualExtension.GetType().GetProperty(€œVisible€?);
if (propInfo != null && propInfo.CanWrite)
{
propInfo.SetValue(actualExtension, false, null);
}
}
}
}

Invalid/blank PDF Created On Export From WinForms ReportViewer

Mar 7, 2007

I have a VS2005 C# winforms application that reads a SSRS request from a table and using the ReportViewer control produces a report and then exports in one of a number of formats via a specified path to a share on another server. This normally works without issue, however today I have had three instances of invalid or blank PDF's being produced. A sample error from the Acrobat Viewer is "There was an error processing the page. There was a problem reading this document (109)."

The software version are as follows:

Host Server: Windows Server 2003 with Sp1.

SQL 2005 with Sp1.

Acrobat reader: Version 7.0

By deleting the PDF file, resetting the processed flag to un-processed, the report was run again, and this time a perfectly readable PDF file was produced. As neither the source data nor the report definition file was updated during this time period, how it works at one time but not previously is currently inexplicable. I have run the report manually with the same input parameters using Internet Explorer and exported it successfully to another location.

Any ideas as to what is going on?

A fix to the winforms application will be to delete any existing file before exporting a new one.

ReportViewer 2008 / 9.0 PDF Export/Render Compression Question

Apr 15, 2008

I print 4x1 inch labels, anywhere from a few to a few thousand. It's all done from an asp.net page with a 9.0 report viewer in local processing mode.

108 Labels = 37MB or so.... this is totally unacceptable for something that when zipped becomes 1.3mb.
I thought version 9.0 was supposed to have PDF compression... Is there some kind of setting I'm not seeing any documentation for somwhere? how do i enable it?

This better not just be a server processing mode feature like the print button again... I've already taken plenty of heat from the bosses just for that alone. Try explaining the difference between a local report and a server report to your boss and then try to come up with a real world explanation as to why he can print some reports in some programs and is forced to export and printer them from adobe in other programs... please don't let me die have mercy.

Inserting Long String Cuts Of At 150 Chars

May 18, 2006

Hi there, I'm having a problem when I insert a string (from C#) which is 167 characters long. The field in SQL Server Express is a varchar(250), but the string gets cut of somehow at 150 characters.

Why does this happen?

The table and stored proc I use are defined like this:

USE [Test]
GO
/****** Object: Table [dbo].[tblImage] Script Date: 05/18/2006 10:42:27 ******/
SET ANSI_NULLS ON
GO
SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON
GO
SET ANSI_PADDING ON
GO
CREATE TABLE [dbo].[tblImage](
[imgID] [bigint] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL,
[persID] [bigint] NOT NULL,
[imgPad] [varchar](250) COLLATE Latin1_General_CI_AS NOT NULL
) ON [PRIMARY]

GO
SET ANSI_PADDING OFF

ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[spInsertImage]

@persID BIGINT

, @imgPad VARCHAR(150)

AS

BEGIN

SET NOCOUNT ON;

INSERT INTO tblImage ( persID

, imgPad )

VALUES ( @persID

, @imgPad)

END

Does anybody know what is going on?

Two Independent Drill Downs In Matrix Report

Jan 16, 2007

I have defined the following to generate a matrix report

1. Row data: Country,region,state,Race,gender

(Red colored columns - Group1;

Blue colored columns - Group 2)

2. Column Data: Statistics as of (Date)

3. Value: household income

I'd like to be able to have a seperate drilldowns on group1 and group2. i.e drilling down on country, region, state shouldn't automatically expand/minimize race and gender. I played with the attributes of individual columns and edit groups of the same. But couldn't achive an independent drill down.

Income as of '05 Income as of '06

Country Region State Race Gender 100k 105k

Having independent drilldown on the group1 and 2 enables us to find out, for example, how many hispanics live in the region west coast. (in a typical tree like drill down, you need to expand country, region and state to get to Race)

How can create an independent drilldown on group1 and group2?

SQL Server Cuts Off Client Connections Intermittently

Apr 30, 2007

SQL Server is cutting off client connections intermittently and I'm having a hard time figuring out why. Restarting the SQL server service fixes the issue for a few days but then it happens again. It's SQL Server 2005 on Windows SBS 2003 with XP and Win2000 clients connecting. Clients connect via a DSN file--they run an Access database. I run daily backups and all maintenance tasks on the databases and these happen without any errors.

Here are some of the error messages I get from the SQL Log:
Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITYNETWORK SERVICE'. [CLIENT: 192.168.1.16]

Error: 18056, Severity: 20, State: 23.

The client was unable to reuse a session with SPID 72, which had been reset for conection pooling. This error may have been caused by an earlier operation failing. Check the error logs for failed operations immediately before this error message.

The SQL Network Interface library could not deregister the Service Principal Name (SPN) for the SQL Server service. Error: 0x862. Administrator should deregister this SPN manually to avoid client authentication errors.

And a recurring error in the SQL Agent Log:
[165] ODBC Error: 0, Driver's SQLAllocHandle on SQL_HANDLE_ENV failed [SQLSTATE IM004]

any clues into how i can further troubleshoot would be appreciated. I can't reproduce the error on command but it is bound to happen "randomly" during business hours and i really need it to stop. any insight appreciated.

thanks,
k

Auto-expand Drill-downs On Print

Feb 6, 2008

Yet another newbie question here in my quest to learn reporting services.

Is there a property I can set to automatically expand all drill-downs when a user goes to print a report? As it is now all the drill-downs remain collapsed when the user goes to print, which is problematic on large reports where there may be many records between groupings (users may expand one group containing 1000's of records, and then decide to simply print everything -- but they'll only get the expanded data -- I'd like to expand everything automatically and have it all print.)

Change Default Zoom Setting For Reports Viewed On Report Manager Web Site

Sep 14, 2007

I've tried changing the default zoom setting by editing the RSReportServer.config file to include

<Configuration>

<DeviceInfo>

<Zoom>Page Width</Zoom>
</DeviceInfo>
</Configuration>
under the

<Render>

<Extension Name = "HTML4.0" etc.
However, all reports still show up with the zoom setting at 100% on the toolbar.
I stop and restart the Report Server Service and it comes up OK so I know my XML syntax is cool. What am I doing wrong?

This is on a 2005 Report Server. Reports are built in VS2005 Report Designer and deployed to the Report Server directly. Reports are accessed via IE7 browser.

Reporting Services :: SSRS - Zoom And Print Control Not Visible In IE11 / Firefox And Chrome

Jan 22, 2015

It seems the features are disabled when using any of the above because of compatibility issues with scripting/ActiveX not being properly supported by the FireFox and Chrome.

I believe the control determines the browser you are using is not IE and will not render the controls to prevent unexpected behavior because if the lack of ActiveX support. This can be seen when you compare the HTML of a page using IE8 and that of either IE11, FF, Chrome you'll see that the HTML for a zoom drop down control will show up in the IE8 browser and not in the others.

As for IE11 it presents itself as a Mozilla browser. eg: "User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; Trident/7.0; rv:11.0) like Gecko" so when the control see's this it wont generate any of the controls believing the browser can't support it, even though IE11 should certainly be capable of doing so. I wanted to know if this is correct and if this is a bug?

Reporting Services :: Saving Report With Taller Column Headings To Excel Cuts Off Taller Headers

Nov 20, 2015

we are running 2014 enterprise. A couple of column headings (even with smaller font) are a little tall, as much as 6 "lines".   All headings in the respective matrices are aligned vertically as "bottom".  When I save the report to excel, these taller headings get chopped off visually in their excel cell.   The cell contains the entire heading.  It appears that the second "line" of the heading is the one that is most visible in excel.

How do I get these to be saved so user will see entire heading when opening excel doc? In the first matrix there is a text box directly above the matrix and only one row of column headings.  In the second there is a higher column group heading containing month name above the problem headings.

ReportViewer Component

Feb 17, 2006

Hi all,

I'm creating a custom interface for reporting services but I am having a few problems. This is my environment:

Using the ReportViewer component in remote mode to show my reports of the report server. There are 2 user levels of which any user can be apart of, Admin & user. In every report, there is a parameter called MERCHANTID, when the user who logs in (via custom login interface) is of group admin, then the merchantid parameter gets prompted before the report is run, if the group of the user is "user" then the merchantid parameter is hidden, and is passed programatically to the report. The report path also

My Questions:

1. When my reportviewer component loads up the report and prompts for a parameter, when you select a parameter value or type it in, it just posts back with no results, just the parameter prompt again with no data... How can this be corrected?

2. How do I pass report parameters programatically... so that when my user id of group "user" then "merchantid" gets passed automatically, but if there is any more parameters, then that gets prompted...

Thanks for your help.

ReportViewer And HTTP 401

Mar 2, 2007

I have read a million documents on this question and I still don't get it. I would greatly appreciate any insights.

I start a new WebSite. I put these specs in web.config:

<authentication mode="Windows"/>

<identity impersonate="true" userName="AIBablh" password="blah" />
<authorization> <deny users="?"/> </authorization>

I put a ReportViewer control on my only page.

I set the URL and the ReportName and run the application which returns HTTP 401, authorization error. What else do I have to do to make this little demonstration work?

I have read entries about credentials, about delegation, about application pools, about just about everything.

Isn't this just supposed to work? This works without difficulty on a Windows form.

Much thanks.

Parameters And ReportViewer

Jan 19, 2007

I have a report in which I am trying to get a parameter to be displayed in a textbox. I have declared a parameter in my .rdlc called UserName and the expression in the textbox is as follows...

=Parameters!UserName.Value

With that said, I have code in the window containing my ReportViewer to set the parameters and run my report as shown below...

string UserName = "test";

List<ReportParameter> paramList = new List<ReportParameter>();

paramList.Add(new ReportParameter(UserName));

this.baseReportViewer.LocalReport.SetParameters(paramList);

this.baseReportViewer.RefreshReport();

With these things in mind, can anyone here provide me with a reason as to why my report on comes up with a message stating "An error occurred during local processing. One or more parameters required to run the report have not been specified." ???

If I remove the parameter and text box and strip out the code pertaining to the paramter in my window, the report runs without error.

Any ideas?

ReportViewer Axd Path

Feb 9, 2007

Hello,

I'm having problems using the ReportViewer control (which you can use in VS2005). When I go to the page that contains the control, the images (back, next, print, etc) don't show up and I get different javascript errors (one of them is the "RSClientController is undefined" error). After some investigation, I found out that the path to the Reserved.ReportViewerWebControl.axd file is incorrect (as I see it in the page source). On every place this axd file is used (for the images and the necessary javascript file), the path is "/Reserved.ReportViewerWebControl.axd?...", while it should be "/reportserver/Reserved.ReportViewerWebControl.axd?...". If I go directly to the "/reportserver/..." url, I can retrieve the images and javascript file. So, somewhere the path to the axd file is set in a wrong way.

For example:
<script src="/Reserved.ReportViewerWebControl.axd?OpType=Resource&amp;Version=8.0.50727.42&amp;Name=Scripts.ReportViewer.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
while this should be:
<script src="/ReportServer/Reserved.ReportViewerWebControl.axd?OpType=Resource&amp;Version=8.0.50727.42&amp;Name=Scripts.ReportViewer.js" type="text/javascript"></script>

I have included the ReportViewer control in a usercontrol (ascx). This usercontrol is implemented in Sharepoint using the "Son of Smartpart" webpart. I'm using SQL Reporting Services 2005 (with the database, SQL Server 2005, hosted on another server). Using the ReportManager, everything is fine.

I really need to get this working, but I'm out of ideas (I've been searching for days to solve this, but can't seem to find the correct solution).

Any ideas?

ReportViewer.Reset()????

Sep 12, 2007

Regarding this post: http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/showpost.aspx?postid=2111183&siteid=17

This could be the follow up of that post, but I thought it would be a good idea to open a new post to discuss the ReportViewer.Reset() method.

This is the background:I was getting a "Execution '' not found" error when generating reports, VDeepak wrote something about ReportViewer.Reset() as a solution for this, so I tried with it.

At my workstation, running the project with VS2005 it worked flawlessly. Nevertheless, when I updated the files on the server I got an exception: "method ReportViewer.Reset() not found". Apparently, this was because of an outdated dll: Microsoft.ReportViewer.WebForms.dll. In other post, somebody told this could be solved installing the SQL Server 2005 SP1, I did it with no success... I found a SP2 was launched recently, so I downloaded installed it... Now another exception: a "http bad request exception". Desperate, I removed the ReportViewer.Reset() line from the code and uploaded the files to the server again. This time, everything went ok again, actually, I havn't found the freaking "execution '' not found" exception.

There are two questions here:

1 - What exactly does ReportViewer.Reset() method do? and why the same code could be failing on the server when it was working ok in the workstation (believe me, I tried everything, the only diference is this method).
2 - By chance, could the "Execution '' not found" error be fixed with the SP2??? I searched the change log and found nothing about it.

Thanks!
