IIF Return Value Not Working.
Apr 18, 2008
I am very new to SSRS and need help. I know this is most likely silly simple but its just not working for me.
What I need is the value of Fields!PayAmt.Value displayed if Fields!ID.Value = 606182. I know the PayAmt.Value is 15.0000 but what is displayed is 0.0000.
=IIF(Fields!ID.Value = 606182,Fields!PayAmt.Value,Fields!PayAmt.Value)
Thank you in advance from this SSRS newbie!!

I have a form that has many checkboxes (more than 40) that provide information about companies.
For example. Company ABC
Checkbox 1 (Windows XP)
Checkbox 2 (Windows Vista)
Checkbox 3 (Windows NT4)
etc.
I save these in a SQL table like the following
Row 1 - Col 1 (CompanyID), col2 (checkbox value)
Row 2 - Col 1 (CompanyID), col2 (checkbox value)
etc.. so a comapany can have multiple checkbox selected..
I am currently developing a report where the end user can select one or many of the checkbox to see if the company exist.
This is where I get stuck - I only want to return the results of the companies that meet the report selections. So if I want to see all the companies that current have Windows NT and Windows Vista...how would I build that querry based on the data model above.
I have tried using the IN clause - however that use the OR connector and doesnt show ONLY the compaines that meet. I have tried using a UNION and INTERSECT, and running the select statement many times.. (SELECT CompanyID from xx WHERE CheckboxVal = xx)
INTERSECT
(SELECT CompanyID from xx WHERE CheckboxVal = xx)
etc.. howevert this creates a very large quesry that is unable to be handled by SQL 2005. I get a error message asking to minimize the query.
Any suggestions on this please...this is my 4th day working on this..

Ok so this is more then likely very easy for most. But for me it's hard. I have a stored proc that I've been able to get to retun just the top 10 rows and have been able to order it asending. But it will only return the top 10 and I need to bottom 10 of the selection.
set ANSI_NULLS ON
set QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON
GO
ALTER proc [dbo].[proj_ListFiles](@project_id int)
as
select top 10(@project_id) id, project_id, filename, contenttype, length
from proj_file
where project_id=@project_id
How can I make it return to bottom 10. On a side note about this, when it returns the recordset they all have the 'id' of the 'project_id' that I selected. Not that the side note really bothers me as it will not be returning the ID's to be visible.
Any help would be great,
Thanks

Microsoft could not have made SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services any harder given the wacky way you have to add web references in Visual Studio 2005 and then when you finally get the report services working as well as the C# program compiling and seeing the
Here are the steps for you poor souls like me:
When you create you C# program Maybe its the same thing for vb rightclick on the project
and click add Web Reference
To the right of the go button you must put in a path to:
http://<server>/reportserver/ReportExecution2005.asmx?wsdl
If you used the default ReportServer settings this should work You will need to make sure you have ReportServices working first but by entering this exact URL and press the go button allows you to acess the ReportExecutionServcie object ofcourse you need to properly rename it in the text box in the lower right labled: Web Reference Name: I renamed it to ReportExecution2005
Note us must add a using <myclassname>.ReportExecution2005; which allows access to the the components and allos compiling.
ReportExecutionService
object correctly and want to use them in C# program Microsoft makes you suffer further with problems getting the path in rs.LoadReport(ReportPath,HistoryID) function
I believe I have the correct path string from trial and error when I go to my report services site
It shows me which as a guess I thought might be derived from the webpage:
http://myserver.mydomain.com/Reports/Pages/Report.aspx?ItemPath=%2fReport+Project2%2fKSConcordanceErrorReport&SelectedTabId=PropertiesTab&SelectedSubTabId=GenericPropertiesTab
displaying:
SQL Server Reporting Services
Home > Report Project2 >
KSConcordanceErrorReport
/home/Report Project2/KSConcordanceErrorReport but that failed to work. Next I tried:
The RichTextBox stored:
The item '/home/Report Project2/KSConcordanceErrorReport' cannot be found. ---> The item '/home/Report Project2/KSConcordanceErrorReport' cannot be found.
/Report Project2/KSConcordanceErrorReport
??t was all that was returned when I tried this path so I believe but am (Not Sure) this is the reportpath to be used in rs.LoadReport function.
In the browser: I believe the catalog based reportpath should be
/Report Project2/KSConcordanceErrorReport
I set up a form with 3 fields:
TextBox: ReportPath so I could play with the path I provide
RichTextBox To store the output from rs.render.
RunButton1 to call up the render code see below:
Please note when I start the program in debug mode I get an error of:
Note the following message proceeds the execution:
The Project cannot be deployed because no target server
is specified. Provide a value for the TargetServerURL
property in the property pages for this project
Any help in getting output on this render function would be appreciated
Perhaps some of my work will help others struggling with this poorly documented service. Even the three poor books I had to work with did not help much. Does Microsoft really expect people to use this?
Here the relevant code. I will assume knowledge of Forms development I provide two pieces: 1 the calling function from the button presss event: and the method called:
richTextBox1.Text=EmbededReportx.Program.GetReportXML2005(
string.Format("http://myserver.mydomain.com/ReportServer/R
eportExecution2005.asmx"),ReportPathTextBox.Text);
public static string GetReportXML2005(string
ReportingServicesURL,string ReportPath)
{
ReportExecutionService rs = new
ReportExecutionService();
//windows authentication
rs.Credentials =
System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials;
rs.Url = ReportingServicesURL;
byte[] result = null;
ParameterValue[] parameters = new
ParameterValue[1];
parameters[0] = new ParameterValue();
parameters[0].Name="user2report";
parameters[0].Value = "%";
string encoding, mimetype, extension;
Warning[] warnings = null;
string[] streamIDs = null;
try {
rs.LoadReport(ReportPath, null);
rs.SetExecutionParameters(parameters,
"en-us");
result = rs.Render("XML", null, out extension, out encoding,
out mimetype, out warnings, out streamIDs);
}
catch (SoapException e) {
return e.Message;
}
return System.Text.Encoding.ASCII.GetString(result);
}
Any help anyone could give me regarding this would be most appreciated:

I am just trying to capture the return code from a stored proc as follows and if I get a 1 I want the SQL Task to follow a failure(red) constrainst workflow and send a SMTP mail task warning the customer. How do I achieve the Exec SQL Task portion of this, i get a strange error message [Execute SQL Task] Error: There is an invalid number of result bindings returned for the ResultSetType: "ResultSetType_SingleRow".

i have written a sql function which returns only number of working days (excludes holidays and Weekends) between given StartDate and EndDate.
USE [XXX]
GO
/****** Object: UserDefinedFunction [dbo].[CalculateNumberOFWorkDays] Script Date: 10/28/2015 10:20:25 AM ******/
SET ANSI_NULLS ON
GO
[code]...
I need a function or stored procedure which will return the date which is 15 working days (should exclude holidays and Weekends) prior to the given future Date? the future date should be passed as a parameter to this function or stored procedure to return the date. Example scenario: If i give date as 12/01/2015, my function or stored procedure should return the date which is 15 working days (should exclude holidays and Weekends) prior to the given date i.e 12/01/2015...In my application i have a table tblMasHolidayList where all the 2015 year holidays dates and info are stored.

I have a package that I have been attempting to return a error code after the stored procedure executes, otherwise the package works great.
I call the stored procedure from a Execute SQL Task (execute Marketing_extract_history_load_test ?, ? OUTPUT)
The sql task rowset is set to NONE. It is a OLEB connection.
I have two parameters mapped:
tablename input varchar 0 (this variable is set earlier in a foreach loop) ADO.
returnvalue output long 1
I set the breakpoint and see the values change, but I have a OnFailure conditon set if it returns a failure. The failure is ignored and the package completes. No quite what I wanted.
The first part of the sp is below and I set the value @i and return.
CREATE procedure [dbo].[Marketing_extract_history_load_TEST]
@table_name varchar(200),
@i int output

Why is it not capturing and setting the error and execute my OnFailure code? I have tried setting one of my parameter mappings to returnvalue with no success.

I'm a Reporting Services New-Be.
I'm trying to create a report that's based on a SQL-2005 Stored Procedure.
I added the Report Designer, a Report dataset ( based on a shared datasource).
When I try to build the project in BIDS, I get an error. The error occurs three times, once for each parameter on the stored procedure.
I'll only reproduce one instance of the error for the sake of brevity.
[rsCompilerErrorInExpression] The Value expression for the query parameter 'UserID' contains an error : [BC30654] 'Return' statement in a Function, Get, or Operator must return a value.
I've searched on this error and it looks like it's a Visual Basic error :
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/8x403818(VS.80).aspx
My guess is that BIDS is creating some VB code behind the scenes for the report.
I can't find any other information that seems to fit this error.
The other reports in the BIDS project built successfully before I added this report, so it must be something specific to the report.
BTW, the Stored Procedure this report is based on a global temp table. The other reports do not use temp tables.
Can anyone help ?
Thanks,

hi
I had a view in which I did something like this
isnull(fld,val) as 'alias'
when I assign a value to this in the client (vb 6.0) it works ok in sql2000 but fails in 2005.
When I change the query to fld as 'alias' then it works ok in sql 2005 .
why ?? I still have sql 2000 (8.0) compatability.
Also some queries which are pretty badly written run on sql 2000 but dont run at all in sql 2005 ???
any clues or answers ?? it is some configuration issue ?
Thanks in advance.

I am trying to bring my stored proc's into the 21st century with try catch and the output clause. In the past I have returned info like the new timestamp, the new identity (if an insert sproc), username with output params and a return value as well. I have checked if error is a concurrency violation(I check if @@rowcount is 0 and if so my return value is a special number.)
I have used the old goto method for trapping errors committing or rolling back the transaction.
Now I want to use the try,catch with transactions. This is easy enough but how do I do what I had done before?
I get an error returning the new timestamp in the Output clause (tstamp is my timestamp field -- so I am using inserted.tstamp).
Plus how do I check for concerrency error. Is it the same as before and if so would the check of @@rowcount be in the catch section?
So how to return timestamp and a return value and how to check for concurrency all in the try/catch.
by the way I read that you could not return an identity in the output clause but I had no problem.
Thanks for help on this

I am writing a pgm that attaches to a SQL Server database. I have an Add stored procedure and an Update stored procedure. The two are almost identical, except for a couple parameters. However, the Add function works and the Update does not. Can anyone see why? I can't seem to find what the problem is...
This was my test:
Dim cmd As New SqlCommand("pContact_Update", cn)
'Dim cmd As New SqlCommand("pContact_Add", cn)
Try
cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure
cmd.Parameters.Add("@UserId", SqlDbType.VarChar).Value = UserId
cmd.Parameters.Add("@FirstName", SqlDbType.VarChar).Value = TextBox1.Text
[...etc more parameters...]
cmd.Parameters.Add("@Id", SqlDbType.VarChar).Value = ContactId
cn.Open()
cmd.ExecuteNonQuery()
Label1.Text = "done"
cn.Close()
Catch ex As Exception
Label1.Text = ex.Message
End Try
When I use the Add procedure, a record is added correctly and I receive the "done" message. When I use the Update procedure, the record is not updated, but I still receive the "done" message.
I have looked at the stored procedures and the syntax is correct according to SQL Server.
Please I would appreciate any advice...

I have a stored procedure that selects the unique Name of an item from one table.
SELECT DISTINCT ChainName from Chains
For each ChainName, there exists 0 or more StoreNames in the Stores. I want to return the result of this select as the second field in each row of the result set.
SELECT DISTINCT StoreName FROM Stores WHERE Stores.ChainName = ChainName
Each row of the result set returned by the stored procedure would contain:
ChainName, Array of StoreNames (or comma separated strings or whatever)
How can I code a stored procedure to do this?

Original suggestion for my problem was - Select * from TableA where ID not in ( Select ID from TableB)
When I run the query below using the IN operator I get 227 records returned but when I use NOT IN I get zero records when I expect well over 10,000. What am I missing?
using SQL 2000 server
SELECT LinksInfo.L_ID, LinksInfo.C_ID, Companies.C_CompanyName, Companies.C_Email, Companies.C_CompanyEmailFROM LinksInfo INNER JOIN Companies ON LinksInfo.C_ID = Companies.C_IDWHERE (LinksInfo.L_ID IN (SELECT ZL_ID FROM Location_Zip))

Hello again,
I think im missing something here, i just cant find out what it is.
I have a temp table:
CREATE TABLE #tempSearch(tempID BIGINT IDENTITY(1,1) PRIMARY KEY,username NVARCHAR(20) COLLATE Finnish_Swedish_CI_AS,lastlogin DATETIME,signupdate DATETIME)
Now i am trying to retrieve some data for each user that is inside this tempSearch list and have an id over xxx (xxx = the value of the parameter @first_id):
SELECT @sql = 'SELECT profile_publicinfo.username, profile_publicinfo.gender, profile_publicinfo.signupdate, profile_profilephoto.imageurl, profile_profilephoto.alttext, settings_username.color, profile_publicinfo.lastloginFROM #tempSearch INNER JOIN dbo.profile_publicinfo ON profile_publicinfo.username = #tempSearch.usernameINNER JOIN dbo.settings_privateinfo ON settings_privateinfo.username = profile_publicinfo.usernameFULL OUTER JOIN dbo.profile_coolfacts ON profile_coolfacts.username = profile_publicinfo.username FULL OUTER JOIN dbo.profile_profilephoto ON profile_profilephoto.username = profile_publicinfo.usernameFULL OUTER JOIN dbo.settings_username ON settings_username.username = profile_publicinfo.usernameWHERE (profile_publicinfo.username IN (SELECT username FROM #tempSearch))AND #tempSearch.tempID >= @first_id'
SELECT @paramlist = '@first_id int'EXEC sp_executesql @sql, @paramlist, @first_id
I need to get the tempID from the tempSearch table in order to compare it with @first_id
When i run this i get the same username repeated like 30 times then it moves over to the next, when i debug the #tempSearch it looks fine, just the users that are suppose to be there.

Hi,
I am on a box with 4 GB of memory that only runs SQL Server. SQL Server is using 1.7 GB as per task manager. There are a lot of databases on this box. I looked at the boot.ini and /3GB was not set. I have done this at least 50 times before: turn on the /3GB switch and SQL Server will use up to 2.7 GB per task manager. (I know it is actually 2GB and 3GB but it seems that in task manager it shows up as 1.7-1.8 and 2.7-2.8)
Anyway back to the story. So I set /3GB, rebooted the server and SQL Server still only consumes up to 1.7GB. I realize that SQL Server might not actually need more memory, but I have a distinct feeling that it wants more but is being constrained; that is, the the /3GB switch is not working. More relevant information:
1) the boot.ini line:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server" /fastdetect /3GB
2) max server memory (MB) = 3000
3) min server memory (MB) = 3000
4) awe enabled = 0
5) @@version = 8.00.2039 which is SQL Server 2000 SP4
Has anyone seen this before? Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this?

In SQL2000 Enterprise manager, there is always an indication of WHICH server & database an object is opened from when it has focus.
So when I'm working on the same table in test and production servers I can tell at a glance what it belongs to.
I cannot seem to duplicate this in any way in SQL Manager 2005 Express which could lead to all sorts of trouble and really slows me down.
Have I missed something really simple in setup or use of the product?
TIA,
Richard

I would like to get the average of a field but I am not sure if I am doing it correctly.
SELECT dbo.VIEW2.Den AS Den2, CASE WHEN VIEW1.Den = VIEW2.Den THEN 1 ELSE 0 END AS Den3, dbo.VIEW2.ID, AVG(dbo.VIEW2.Den) AS Den4
FROM dbo.VIEW1 CROSS JOIN
dbo.VIEW2
WHERE (dbo.VIEW2.ID = '1')
Here is the error I am getting: Column dbo.View2.Den is invalid in the SELECT list because it is not an aggregate function and there is no Group BY CLause.
Thanks for the help

How can I verify that AWE is actually working? The server is SQL 2000EE on W2KAS with the /pae switch.I've allocated 5000Mb (5Gb) for SQL but Performance monitor says theworking set for the sqlservr process is only 91Mb (it started out ataround 87Mb a couple of days ago and seems to be creeping up)."committed bytes" for the server is about 5.6 Gb out of ~6Gb so there'sa whole pile of memory going somewhere.The error log says "Address Windowing Extensions enabled" (sp_configindicates a "1" for this as well). The "max server memory" item says5000 Mb for its "running" value so within the SQL Server things appearto be correct.The server does seem to be performing better but it's hard to decide ifthat's because of AWE or just the fact that it was rebooted (it hadn'tbeen in a while).- Martin

I've built an application that relies pretty heavily on XML to enableflexible creation of data entry forms and storage of the data enteredinto those forms. Currently, it stores data as an XML document in anntext field. This is great because it allows me a great deal offlexibility in creating fields. However, I need to implement searchingand sorting of that data and I don't know how to do this in an efficientmanner.Currently the data is stored in a format similar to this:<form><fieldname>fieldvalue</fieldname><listfieldname><items><item><label>displaytext</label><value>itemvalue</label></item></items></listfieldname></form>Is there any way to perform searches on data like this, i.e. to searchthe "fieldvalue" in <fieldname> or "itemvalue" in <value>?If there isn't a way to do this, I'm willing to re-structure thedatabast architecture, though the solution would still need to allow thesame kind of flexibility that the XML solution does.Any ideas?Thanks,Kelly

Hi all,
This is a question related to AWE settings. I am on windows 2003 ent version with SQL Server 2005 std version. I have configured SQL Server to use AWE and min memery as 22G and max as 26G (I have 32G in total as physical memory). I do see the message in log as "Windows Address ... Enabled", but when I am using performance monitor to view total memory in kb for SQL Server, it never starts at 22G (usually at 1G). And I doubt why? The account I am running SQL Server is an admin account, so it can definitely locked down the pages in memory. Also, I do think AWE is working somehow, after several hours in running, the total memory will up to 8, 9 or 11G. So, apparently, it is over 2G per process limitation. I still want to know.
1. Is my AWE setting working?
2. If not, how to fix that?
3. How to confirm how many memory is actaully using by SQL Server?
Thanks,
NIng
