IIS Losing Connection To SQL Server 2005

Hi, I'm working on a project that connects to a database on every view of a site. It works fine for a few hours but eventually it just stops connecting to the database. There's nothing in the application logs to suggest where to look, it seems like the connections are just dying.
I am creating the connection in a pretty normal manner:SqlCommand myAwesomeCommand = new SqlCommand();
myAwesomeCommand.Connection = new SqlConnection(myAwesomeConnectionString);
myAwesomeCommand.CommandText = myAwesomeSQL;
myAwesomeCommand.CommandType = CommandType.Text; // Otherwise known as awesomeText
myAwesomeCommand.ExecuteScalar();
I also use a SqlDataAdapter and fill it for some of my stuff for grabbing more complex data, but all happy System.Data.SqlClient stuff.
But yeah, the thing seems to just give up after a few hours. Everything I have read about connection pooling in ADO.Net says that the connections won't be reused. And yes, I believe I am closing all of my connections after I use them. The site is getting, oh, 7500 hits an hour maybe? Somewhere around that, maybe more maybe a little less.
Anyone have any ideas?

Hi
I have two machines, the one has Windows 2003 server and the other has Windows Xp Pro on.
The 2003 one has SQL Standard Edition 2000 on where as the XP Pro has MSDE 2000.
I'm trying to run a windows based app from the 2003 server and it connects to a database on the XP Pro PC.
When running the application i keep getting the following exception:
"A Transport-Level error has occured when sending the request to the server (Provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 0 - The specified network name is no longer available)
After using Preformance monitor on the XP machine it seems that when the app starts and the user logins in it make a SQL connection but then the connection is lost then the exception pops up. then i click continue and try it again then it works, then a couple of secs when using the system it pops up again. The Performance Monitor Test shows that the SQL connection keep being lost. The network is fine. its has something to do with SQL and Named Pipes and stuff.
When running the app on the Xp machine and the Connection is made to the 2003 machine there is no problem.
There are other connection made to the Windows XP Machine but i doubt that it affects the app.
The Windows firewall is off as well.
Please can anyone help.

Hi - I am attempting to run an SSIS package through a SQL Agent job step. The package is fairly basic - I run some Execute SQL tasks, build an ADO recordset, enter into a For-Each loop, and perform some table updates based on the ADO recordset. So far so good. Approximately 1/3 of the records in my For-Each loop are processed, then I get a "Failed to acquire connection error". All I am doing for each iteration of the For-Each loop is updating one record in a table based upon the current value that is being processed from the ADO recordset. I am running the job on a 64-bit box, version 9.00.3050.00. I have also run this on two other 64-bit boxes (versions 9.00.1399.06 and 9.00.1406.00) and had the same issue. The owner of the Agent job is a sysadmin on the box. I don't understand why some items would be processed, then the connection drops mid-way through processing. What's even odder is the connection is dropped at the same point every time I run. The connection that I have defined in my package (I only have one connection defined in my package) is Provider type "Native OLEDBSQL Native Client", and I am using Windows authentication. The version of Visual Studio that I have developed this package in is 8.0.50727.42. Please help.

Hi,
I'm testing the use of application roles for security. The customer I work for has still a lot of ASP intranet applications running. We're migrating the databases to a SQL Server 2005 server.
I've changed the connection string to a user without any permissions but to log on. After that I use an application role for permission to select different tables and to execute Stored Procedures.
The first queries do execute but after that I get "Permission denied", like I haven't got the application role anymore.
Any ideas?

On my SSIS package I have 2 connection managers, both are connecting to an Oracle db. I enter in the ID and Password then click 'test connection' I'm able to connect to the database fine. I then go to a data flow of one of my control flow task. Open up my OleDb Source and click preview. The SQL query executes with no issues. I can see the data from my connection manager source.
I then go and run the package and I get this error message:
[OLE DB Source [1]] Error: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_CANNOTACQUIRECONNECTIONFROMCONNECTIONMANAGER. The AcquireConnection method call to the connection manager "OracleConnection" failed with error code 0xC0202009. There may be error messages posted before this with more information on why the AcquireConnection method call failed.
I've been racking my brain on this for a few days and still no luck on getting this to work.

I have a VB6 application that has MSDE as its current backend. In
testing moving to SLSQLExpress I've noticed, since this application is run on laptops, that if I disconnect the network cable while I'm in the VB6 app I lose "connection" to the database. If I end task on the app and restart it it works fine. If I reconnect the network cable while the app is running and then disconnect it the app runs fine. Also this happens when I'm connected to a wireless network and then disconnect and disable that connection.
In my template.ini file I have DISABLENETWORKPROTOCOLS=0. Is there a setting I'm missing? I can't seem to find anything else to set in the ini file.

Hi, I had an old web application created during asp.net 1.1 and it have a connection problem with the sql server 2005 when it is mirgrated to a new webserver with dotnet framework 2.0 platform. I have enabled the remote access(TCP/IP and named pipes) in sql server 2005, did all the neccessary things, check whether the TCP/IP is enabled, named pipe is enabled... I created another web application using VS 2005. I have some questions about connection strings.
BACKGROUND...
Note that I am using the "SQL Native Client OLE DB Provider", SQL Sever 2005 Express, ASP.NET, C#.NET, and VS.NET 2005.
Note that I do not want to use the "Attach a database file" type of connection string.
Note that I am using the site http://www.ConnectionStrings.com as a reference.
Note that this "Standard security" connection string...<add name="LocalSqlServer" connectionString="Server=MYTESTOFFICESERVERS;Database=MyDatabase;Uid=MyDatabaseUser;Pwd=MyDatabasePassword;" />...does not work and causes the following run-time error...A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the login process. (provider: Shared Memory Provider, error: 0 - No process is on the other end of the pipe.)
Note that this "Trusted connection" connection string...<add name="LocalSqlServer" connectionString="Server=MYTESTOFFICESERVERS;Database=MyDatabase;Trusted_Connection=yes;" />...works but is less-than ideal because it uses a Trusted Connection rather than a Username/Password combination.
QUESTIONS...
(A) What exactly does the error in Item 4 mean?
(B) Do 4 and 5 imply that one must use a Trusted_Connection for all SQL Server 2005 Express connection strings when the database does not reside in the web application's App_Data folder or use a "Attach a database file" type of connection string?
(C) Are there any alternatives?
(D) What do you suggest?
Please advise.

When I create a new odbc connection to a SQL server 2005 Db I get a failure telling me dat de SQL server does not allow remote connections.
How can I allow the server to allow this.

I have a Rounding error: Between flat file connection manager Source & OLE DB Connection Destination (SQL Server 2005) in my Dataflow.

I have a field of text of in a flat file that the flat file connection manager Source picks up correctly €œ70000893€?
However when it gets the OLE DB Connection Destination the data has changed to 70000896. That€™s before its even Written to the database.
The only clue that something is wrong in the middle is the great Data viewer shows the number as 7.000009E+07
Other clues looking at the data it appears there is a rounding error on only the number that dont end in 00

Hi,I need some help. I am getting this error after I complete the asp.net register control and click on the continue button. I have 2 machines, each running the same version of SQL Server. I'm trying to use the dts to export my data from one to the other, and it works fine, except for the fact that I lose my unique index on a field. Is there a way I can keep this from happening, or am I going to have to recreate it each time? I wouldnt think I would have to, seems like bad design to me.

This is an infrequent problem but very annoying when it happens. Every so often, I go into Enterprise Manager only to find that all of my SQL server registrations have disappeared from the group and I have to add them all again. As it happens so infrequently I don't know if there's something I'm doing on my machine to make them all disappear.
Anyone got any ideas?

I am supporting a system that needs to allow users to have access to TempDB.
I set these users up using the GUI, but whenever the server is restarted, these users permissions are wiped out and the db_owner permission is lost and I have to manually go in and apply the permissons for the database to work again, it happens on most reboots but not all.
Is there anyway to keep these users permissions when the server is rebooted?
Your help is most appriciated.
P.S Could I create a stored procedure that when ever the Server is rebooted the procedure would recreate these permissions?
If I need to do this how would I go about doing this?

I'm trying to connect to Desktop SQL Server 2000 from Windows mobile PC Emulator (VS 2005). I need a direct connection using connection string to SQL Server 2000 through local wireless network without IIS.
Bellow is the code that I use. After executing this code I get an error on line Conn.Open(). Error says SQL Server does not exist or access denied.
SQL is un and running, and I can log in using SA username from the desktop. Even if I chance IP for another SQL server in my connection string I still get the same error. There is no firewall of any kind running.

I have a problem when I try to create a new connection with Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition from Visual Studio 2005 IDE. When I€™m going to choose the data source, the SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition provider doesn€™t appear in the list. I installed the SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition from this page http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=%2085E0C3CE-3FA1-453A-8CE9-AF6CA20946C3&displaylang=en. In the additional information says by installing SQLServerCE31-EN.msi installs the provider (System.Data.SqlServerCe.dll) in the GAC (global assembly cache) and registers the OLEDB provider (sqlceoledb30.dll). So, I don€™t understand why couldn€™t I create a new connection with Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition from Visual Studio 2005 IDE?

I downloaded SQL Server 2005 Express and some sample databases (incl. Adventureworks_data.mdf), but when I try to Add Connection in VS 2005 to point to this db and use the Test Connection button, it gives the error:

I'm having a strange problem with this but I know (and admit) that the problem is on my PC and nowhere else. My firewall was causing a problem because I was unable to PING the database server, switching this off gets a successful PING immediately. The most useful utility to date is running netstat -an in the command window. This illustrates all the connections that are live and ports that are being listed to. I can establish a connection both by running

sqlcmd -S sql5.hostinguk.net -U username -P password

Both these utilities show as establishing a connection in netstat so I am able to connect the database server every time, this worked throughout yesterday and has continued this morning.
The problem is when I attempt to use SQL Server Management Studio. When I attempt to connect to tcp:sql5.hostinguk.net, 1433 nothing shows in netstat at all. There is an option to encrypt the connection in the connection properties tab in management studio, when I enable this I do get an entry in netstat -an, see below:

Amost as if it's trying the different ports but you get this time_wait thing. The error message is more meaningful and hopefull because I get:
A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the pre-login handshake. (provider: SSL Provider, error: 0 - The certificate chain was issued by an authority that is not trusted.) (.Net SqlClient Data Provider)
I would expect this as the DNS has not been advised to encrypt the conection.
This is much better than the : Login failed for user 'COX10289'. (.Net SqlClient Data Provider) that I get, irrespective of whether I enter a password or not.
This is on a XP machine trying to connect to the remote webhosting company via the internet.
I can ping the server
I have enabled shared memory and tcp/ip in protocols, named pipes and via are disabled
I do not have any aliases set up
No I do not force encryption
I wonder if you have any further suggestions to this problem?

In a Web app as per above, where are connections to SQL Server and the connection pool monitored? Is it in SQL Server itself?For example, in the following connection string:"Server=(local); Database=TranOps; " + "Integrated Security=SSPI;" + "Pooling = true;" + "Min Pool Size = 1;" + "Max Pool Size = 5;" + "Persist Security Info=False;";The first user accesses a web form, and the connection is opened, and the pool started, then the connection is closed. I think at this point there should be five connections available.When the second user accesses their web form, and connects using exactly the same string, it seems that if the connection is requested within a certain time frame of the first, one of the original five connections will be 'opened', or more correctly drawn from the pool, and used. If I am understanding this correctly, then the pool must be maintained by SQL Server, not by anything in the web application. Is this a correct interpretation? Many thanks,Mike Thomas

I have this problem:
When I try to open database table under database explorer in VWD 2005
EE, it says that it failed to attempt connection due to user instance
and the connection will be closed.
When I try to right click on my database's file name under database
explorer and click connection to set the connection setting and click
on "Test Connection", it says the same thing.
This happen sometime, but after I restart my computer, I am able to access my database file again.
Anybody have any idea what's going on?

My site works fine in VWD2008 express, but I get this error when I try to use it on my live website.
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections.
According to this article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/914277 I am supposed to:

Click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft SQL Server 2005, point to Configuration Tools, and then click SQL Server Surface Area Configuration.
Ok, there is no such program in this folder. The only thing in there is "SQL Server Error and Usage Reporting"...
The other thing I am greatly concerned with is this: All is want is for my webpages to be able to access my database for user authentication. I DO NOT want to grant the internet rights to remote connect to my database.

I need to fire a SELECT query on a SQL Server 2000 database, but don't want to add it as a linked server. Is there any way I can do this or its not possible??

I have created a web site project in ASP.net using VS 2005. This web site is a form where one can enter, validate and submit the data. I have created the fields and done with the ASP coding.
I dont know how to set up the connection with the SQL server database ? So, that the entered data is stored in the database.

Hi,
I have a VBA Application that uses ADO 2.8 to connect SQL Server 2005 standard edition thru SQL Native Client. The data update is done for every minute basis with 20 timers events that fires for every 1 minute and all timers start at same time. SQL Server database has merge replication that synchronizes in every 10 minutes. VBA Application calls stored procedure to insert record. The system was running fine, but since a week VBA application is often getting an error states "Query Timed Out" , "The transaction active in this session has been committed or aborted by another session.".
Please suggest that can support me to solve issue.

I get the following error and have been trying to figure out why I keep getting it. Initially, I had placed my project under wwwroot folder and ran it under IIS and it gave this error. Then I moved it to my local C drive and same thing. I am sharing this project with two other co-workers and all our config files and code files are same...they don't get this error but I do. I checked that SQL Server Client Network Utility has TCP/IP and the 'Named Pipes' enabled. I thought maybe I have setting in the Visual Studio 2005 that I'm not aware of that's causing this problem...it can't be the server since my co-workers aren't having this error and can't be anything in the code since all of us are sharing this project through vss. I dont' think using different version of .net framework can create this error. I changed the version from 2.0 to use 1.1x and it gave same error... Any help would be greatly appreciated. I dont have the SQL EXPRESS installed instead I have SQL Standard Edition.
I have two SQL Server instances installed.
1- UserLT (this is sql 2000)2- UserLTSQL2005 (this is SQL 2005 named instance)
But when i try to add a database to my VS website project I get the following error:
Connection to SQL Server files (*.mdf) require SQL server express 2005 to function properly. please verify the installation of the component or download from the URL: go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkId=4925
I went in Tools>Opetions>DataBase tools>Data Connection>Sql Server Instance Name (blank for default)
and changed the "SQLEXPRESS" to "USERLTSQL2005".
But I still get the same error message. Any ideas how i can resolve this issue?

I have already installed to my computer Microsoft SQL Server 2005 and SQL Serves Express. I used to be successful to connect to the SQL Server but now I CAN NOT.
Not: I try to run SQL Server 2005 but I can not, even I logged on to my computer with an administrator rights. On the other hand I can start and stop the SQL Server Express easily.
As a result, how can I solve this problem.

I have developed a database in MS SQL Server 2005 Express, to which I would require only bulkadmin server role from an external java application, because I only need to update rows, insert values or use select queries in the database.
The problem is that, using either the Microsoft JDBC Driver 1.1 or the Java JDBC ODBC Driver and the Windows XP Data Base (ODBC) configurations, I need a user with sysadmin server role inside Sql Server, otherwise JDBC won't connect to the database using the selected user. Even if I leave the sql login with setupadmin or any server role lower than sysadmin, the connection is refused.
Is there no way to connect using JDBC to MS Sql Server 2005 other than granting the connected user sysadmin rights? My code looks as follows:
