While intalling SQL 2005 on an x64 machine, I got an error message that warned that some functions of SQL would not install unless IIS was installed (and enabled) on the machine. It did not say what would not install, but I gather it is Reporting Services. I don't recall getting these warnings in previous (32 bit) installations of SQL 2005.
On the other hand, when I go into the BI Intelligence Studio on
a (32 bit) server that does not have IIS, I seem to be able to create
a report anyway (Not really my area of expertise ). Does that mean that Report Services is working without IIS?
Hello everyone. I'm installing SQL 2005 on Windows Server 2008. During the first leg of the installation, I get green checks on all items except for "ASP.net version Registration requirement". My error message says" Failed to find ASP.Net Registration with Microsoft (IIS). I've run the aspnet_regiis program, but it didn't seem to do anything. Is there a certain switch I need to use with the the aspnet_regiis command? It appears that the ASP.Net registration is hindering me from installing the reporting services component in SQL, which I need to install CRM4.0. So, if anyone knows how to help me do this ASP.NET registration on a Windows Server 2008 server, I would be very grateful.
If SQL Server Setup fails, Setup will roll back the installation but may not remove all .manifest files. The workaround is to rename the files and then rerun Setup. For more information, see How to: Work Around COM+ Check Failure in SQL Server Setup.
Workaround says remove the .manifest files. Where are they?
I am currently running Windows XP Professional Service Pack2. It already has MSDE & SQL Server 2000 installed (although I just uninstalled MSDE in the vain hope that it might present the installer with a more straightforward upgrade).
I have tried installing with the default instance & a new instance (I don't really care - I just need to install the darn thing). I just want the basic database & Books On-line, nothing fancy.

I suppose an error dialog (or log message) that actually told you what is wrong and then what to do is too much to ask for. (Or an installer than just copied all the files into place). :(

I even ran the windows update SP1 for Vista and MDAC 2.8 SP1

I have been trying to drill down to the cause for this event log message: "The configuration of the AdminConnectionTCP protocol in the SQL instance SQLEXPRESS is not valid." It is reported from the SQLBrowser service as a warning when the service starts. I have tried starting SQLBrowser.exe with -c flag, but the output reveals no errors. I have seen this error on three computers. Two are running SQL 2000, 2005 and Express. One was only running Express, but still this message. I then looked into the log for the SQL Express server itself. It shows this message on startup: "Dedicated administrator connection support was not started because it is not available on this edition of SQL Server. This is an informational message only. No user action is required." Now, it appears to me that these two messages may relate to the same "error" (or rather behaviour by design). So, can anyone confirm that the warning in the event log from the SQL Browser service occurs becuase of that the SQL Express edition doesn't allow any "AdminConnection", but the SQL Browser service isn't aware of that SQL Express edition shouldn't support that, and reports it as a warning (implying that we can't do much about this warning)?
While waiting for the fax of instructions to contact MS Support, I thought I would post here (tried several times and no fax...)
We get this message in the log file and then all hell breaks loose until it resets memory. The SQL Service continues working but nobody can connect for about 5 minutes and then is seems to reset itself. This has happened three times over the past two weeks. Only one time it did create the SQLDUMP files but all three occurences have practically the same entries.
We are running SQL Server 2005 x64 SP2 under Windows 2003 x64 SP1. We have 4GB RAM and SQL is configured to use 2GB of it. We have a large number of databases (about 400) on this one instance that experiences this problem. The server itself is not under a tremendous load. All of the databases were recently upgraded from SQL 2000 SP4 32 bit instance. The first occurence happened just days after the migration.

I am trying to install the client tools for management purposes only on a IBM T42 laptop which meets all the hardware and software requirements listed on MS support including the HCL list, the Readme, the forums and MSDN but the install still shows the following log messages when the install fails.
AdminMessage = Setup requires user to be in the administrator group in order to continue the installation process. Setup is aborting as the current user is not in the administrator group.
(I am an adminsistrator on this machine)

I never installed previous beta versions on my computer before. But now I have some serious problem after an incomplete de-install and a re-install of SQL server 2005 express advanced. I hope anybody can help me to solve this. Because the first installation eas not succesfull I had to do an de-install. I have tried to unstall through start/control panel/ add-remove programms and even there not all programs were removed. And that caused the problem. After that I wanted to re-install again but an msi file was missing. So I did a de-install agian. Tried to re-install again but with a lot of errors. After looking at the library I found a program: Windows Install CleanUp. I installed it and that even gives an error for all programs installed with SQL 2005. After that I ran a program called MsiInv to clean but without any succes because this program reported a run-tim error. I have all reports on my computer but don't know how to attach them. If SQL Server Setup fails, Setup will roll back the installation but may not remove all .manifest files. The workaround is to rename the files and then rerun Setup. For more information, see How to: Work Around COM+ Check Failure in SQL Server Setup.
Ok guys, I am trying to install Sql server 2005 on Vista but I am still stuck with this warning message in the System Configuration Check during Sql server 2K5 installation :

Now, I know I need to install SP2 but how the hell I am going to install SP2 if Sql server 2005 doesn't install any of the components including Sql server Database services, Analysus services, Reporting integration services( only the workstation component is available for installation)?
Any work around for this issue?
P.S.: I didn't install VS.NET 2005 yet, can this solve the problem?
I went to one of the Microsoft "Ready To Launch" events over a year ago. Microsoft was gracious and gave everyone who attended a free copy of Visual Studio 2005 and SQL Server 2005. I have installed the Visual Studio and use it all of the time. I also installed the SQL server 2005 but I can not find the application on my computer. After the install the only items that appear to have been installed are the following: SQL Server Configuration tools(SQL Server Configuration manager,SQL Server Error and usage reporting, SQL Server surface area confiuration, Reporting Services configuration). There is also a menu icon labeled "Microsoft SQL server upgrade advisor" and SQL server upgraded wizard. That is all. I can't find anything that is analogus to the Enterprise manager that was in SQL server 2000 or anything that is analogous to Query Analyzer of 2005.
Can someone help me out? We use SQL server 2005 so I know how it looks. I just can't see where it insalled. I don't think it did?
I have never installed sql server before and I didnt know if I just take the sql server 2005 standard edition media and boot off it and do a fresh install that way or do I have to install Windows server

I am trying to do Download details SQL Server 2005 Samples and Sample Databases (April 2006) -> GettingStartedWithSQLSamples.htm which says "a. Open a Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 command prompt. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft Visual Studio 2005, point to Visual Studio Tools, and then click Visual Studio 2005 Command Prompt." but I can find no such command prompt within "Visual Studio Tools", only "Visual Studio 2005 Remote Debugger{, Configuration Wizard}".
What's wrong? How to fix or workaround? I'd install .NET SDK 2.0 to get it's Command Prompt but that's about 570MB merely for a command prompt!

VS looks OK and MSSQLSERVER and SQLEXPRESS etc. show in ‘Services/Local’ as started/automatic.
I am trying to do Management Studio Tutorial. For the change from SEM.
The problem is in opening SQL Server Management Studio there is a dialog ‘Connect to Server’ showing Type = Database engine, Authentication = Windows Authentication, Server name = blank.
When I enter Server name = MSSQLSERVER and press Connect I get an error message ‘Cannot connect to MSSQLSERVER… Error 53.

hi! i just joined this group today after a colleague told me about it.anyway, i'm new to SQL and haven't tried installing any version of it.I do have vb 6.0 though on my pc. My problem is that I can't installSQL server 05 EE, VB 2005 or VW 2005. I have downloaded all of theinstaller from the Microsoft site as well as the dotnetfix which issupposed to install the .net framework 2.0.whenever i try to install SQL server EE, it is telling me that it hasfound beta components. but i don't have any beta versions of SQL. Itried uninstalling my Vb 6.0 thinking its causing the error, but samething happened.The next thing I did is I uninstall my .net 2.0 and when i try toinstall VB or VW 2005, i got to the step where it is trying to downloadthe .net framework 2.0 but it is taking so long. Question: is thedotnetfix.exe which installed .net 2.0, different from the .net 2.0that the setup.exe of VB2005 will download? if yes, may i know if thereis a direct site where i can manually download and install it so theVB2005 will just skip that part and go on with the installation?When i downloaded the exe files for SQL, .net 2.0, VB and VW, i didselect the SAVE option and saved them on my external mini hard drive soI can install it at home. Does that make any difference? could thatcause the error?pretty clear that i am a newbie with this stuff and i never thoughtthat it would be this hassle to install them heheheh any help, in adetailed way if possible, would highly be appreciated.thanks so much!manny

I have SQL Express 2005 with Advanced Services on a development box that I also want to have installed side-by-side with SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition so I can develop apps using either edition based on the features I need (or don't need). From what I understand from sifting through other posts is that side-by-side installs of these two editions is supported and I should setup a named instance for each edition (SQLEXPRESS for the express edition and MSSQLSERVER for the standard edition). Is this setup accurate or is there another/better way?
Also, does anybody know if side-by-side installations of Reporting Services is also supported? If I install SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition with Reporting Services, will there be two different report servers running in IIS? Since there are different features in Reporting Services between the two editions, I'm not sure how side-by-side installations will effect one another.
I am an Oracle DBA and coming from Unix world. In Oracle, we can install Oracle by scripting out and run it. I was wondering if there is a way for us to install SQL using script instead of running from GUI.
The reason being, we have to deploy hundred of SQL server and we want to be consistent all accross the board.
I have have tried many times to install sql 2005 dev. on a Windows Vista Home Premium using some of microsoft docs such as 934164 but I have not succeded. My question at this time: I am wondering if those previous installations are affecting the new installation. After I removed sql 2005 (with control panel/uninstall programs), I see that in the folder "Program Files" still have data like MICROSOFT SQL SERVER/ 90, MSSQL.1, MSSQL.2, MSSQL3,..". Is is OK to delete this data. Another question, does it matter the order in which Visual Studio or MS SQL 2005 is installed? Thanks.
I am trying to install the x64 edition of SQL 2005 Std with SRS on a Windows Server 2003 Std x64 SP2 box. The installation goes fine including the SRS but the instances install in Program Files (x86) directory instead of the 64 bit Program Files directory. Is this normal behavior for an x64 install? Hi, Installed sql server 2005 full version. Now in the start menu there is no management studio. Only the following are present; configuration tools sql server 2005 upgrade advisor documentation and tutorial
Simple enough problem. We are looking at upgrading our SQL 2000 to 2005 Standard edition 64 bit.
Latter this year or early next year we will be upgrading our OS on all servers to 64 bit OS.
Obviously Id rather avoid having to do 2 SQL upgrades and just go straight to the 64 bit versions.
The plan is Upgrade the SQL first but that means running the 64 bit version on the 32 bit windows 2000 server until the server upgrades takes place. Of course this means we wont have any of the 64 bit processing benefits at this stage but will at least have SQL we want in place.
I was wondering if anyone knew of any reason not to do this? Or any problems we may encounter
