IMPORT DATA FROM XML SOURCE TO SQL
Mar 2, 2006
Hello,
I'm trying to import data from a xml file (several tables inside) into sql tables.
- In the xml source, I choose the xml and xsd files and I see all tables perfectly.
- Drag the xml source output to Sql Destination input, choose one table to import and create the sql table
- I execute the task and it concludes ok
- In Execution Results window appears as warnings as fields of each one other tables (giving information about this fields are not used at the process and it'll be better removed it in order to increase performance), no errors and success task. The problem is that no one data is imported into sql destination (wrote 0 rows).
Process window:
Information: 0x4004300A at OPP, DTS.Pipeline: Validation phase is beginning.
Warning: 0x80047076 at OPP, DTS.Pipeline: The output column "field_1" (66374) on output "TABLA1" (50424) and component "XML Source" (27281) is not subsequently used in the Data Flow task. Removing this unused output column can increase Data Flow task performance.
Information: 0x40043006 at OPP, DTS.Pipeline: Prepare for Execute phase is beginning.
Information: 0x40043007 at OPP, DTS.Pipeline: Pre-Execute phase is beginning.

Information: 0x40043008 at OPP, DTS.Pipeline: Post Execute phase is beginning.

Information: 0x4004300B at OPP, DTS.Pipeline: "component "SQL Server Destination" (20427)" wrote 0 rows.
SSIS package "package.dtsx" finished: Success.
The program '[408] package.dtsx: DTS' has exited with code 0 (0x0).
If I import data of xml file from access, I haven't any problem. All tables are imported
I don't know what can be. Thanks a lot.

Hi,
I am trying to import tables from an ODBC data source into an SQL Server 2005 database. I presume that one way to achieve this is to create an Integration Services package, via Business Intelligence Studio (I already used DTS in SQL Server 2000, but not Integration Services) ?
Or is there a simpler way ? For instance, is there an import wizard that woult include an ODBC Data source ?
Thanks i advance.

Is it possible to import data from an Excel spreadsheet using OPENROWSET or OPENDATASOURCE without having to explicitly define the filepath of the source file? Currently, I have this piece of code within a sproc:
INSERT INTO [dbo].[ProductionRequirementDetail]
([ProductionRequirementHeaderID], [SKU], [Quantity])
SELECT @ProductionRequirementHeaderID,
[SKU],
[LAMPS]
FROM OPENROWSET ('Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0','Excel 8.0; Database=C:WeeklySchedule.xls', 'SELECT * FROM [Master$C5:Q65536]') AS XL
LEFT JOIN [dbo].[PartMaster] ON (RIGHT([XL].[CODE], 7) = [PartMaster].[SKU])
WHERE [SKU] IS NOT NULL
AND [CODE] IS NOT NULL
AND [LAMPS] IS NOT NULL
AND [LAMPS] > 0
AND [LampTypeID] = @LampTypeID
I would like to remove the hardcoded reference 'Database=C:WeeklySchedule.xls' and replace it with a parameter for the filepath. Is this possible? This is in SQL Server 2000. Also, if there is a way to do this with DTS I'd be open to doing it that way too.

hello ,
I want to download data from an AS/400 to a SQL 2005 Database.
Within Sql server 2000 it was possible to do more than 1 transformation with just 1 source connenction and 1 destination.
In SSIS I have created:
- new solution
- data source
- Data source viewer ( I made named queries to format the data as i want it to be in Sql)
Although it is possible to view the named query data it does not seem to be possible to import the data in the data viewer into my sql 2005 database. (For each dataflow I have to define each query again)
I have added the data source in the connection manager.
Also I am searching to import more than 1 file in 1 package !
I can use however a Dts-2000 package but why then use SQL server 2005
Hope somebody can help me
Regard,
Ronny

I am trying to import an Excel file into SQL Server 2005 using the SSIS import/export wizard; however, Microsoft Excel doesn't show up in the list of the data sources. I am assuming that something else must be install from either Microsoft Office or SQL Server 2005. I am using Microsoft Office 2003 on a Window XP machine. Does anyone know what I need to do to correct this.
Thanks,
Tim

I have several versions of SQL Server and have been using SQL 2008 on a regular basis due to this issue. Our SQL 2014 when I do the Import Data process, it opens up the dialog window, hit next, and the data source is currently defaulting to ".NET Framework Data Provider for IBM i" - when it does this it immediately errors out with:
"An error occurred which the SQL Server Integration Services Wizard was not prepared to handle.
Additional Information:
> Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation (mscrolib)
>> Failed to find or load the registered .NET Framework Data Provider (System.Data)"
It immediately crashes/closes the Import/Export wizard with me unable to change the data source to what I need it to be.
My 2008 defaults to SQL Server Native Client 10.0 and does allow me to change to that same option (at which point it errors) but it does not close the wizard.
I need a way to either:
> Default the starting Data Source to be something else
> Fix whatever error is causing it to crash - I am at a loss as to what the error is looking for
> Not have the wizard crash whenever it defaults to this source.
Any of the above solutions would work fine - but at the moment I am unable to use the Import/Export wizard at all in SQL 2014.

Should I be able to use a SQL Server Compact Edition sdf file as the data source for the SSIS Import and Export Wizard?
When I select the .net Framework Provider for compact Edition from the data source drop down, I get a message box with "An error occured which the SSIS Wizard was not prepared to handle. Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. (mscorlib) Specified method is not supported. (System.Data.SqlServerCe)"
We have a user with a sdf file that will no longer sync, so we wanted to get her data from sdf file tables into SQL Server tables quickly and easily. Since the SSIS wizard wouldn't work with the sdf data source, we copied SQL Server Mgmt Studio query results into an Excel spreadsheet via the Clipboard, them imported those records with SSIS. But we need a repeatable process in case this happens in the future.
We tried to reinitialize her merge replication subscription with SQL Server Mgmt studio, and with C# code, but none of that would work.
How many MS data provider options are available for SQL Server compact edition? I see ".Net Framework Data Provider for Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition" in the SSIS data source drop down, but shouldn't I also see an OLE-DB Provider for SQL Server Compact Edition?
This is all on my XP workstation where I can successfully write C# code for SQL Server Compact data access with Assembly = System.Data.SqlServerCe = C:Program FilesMicrosoft Visual Studio 8Common7IDEPublicAssembliesSystem.Data.SqlServerCe.dll. So I think I have the proper tools installed.
Thanks.

Hi
In this code how can I create a new data source and new data source view and model and structure that it run dynamic.
In this code I have a lot of errors, that they are about server and database don€™t have in current code,
In this code, first I should definition server or no?

srv.Databases.Add(dbNew);
dbNew.Update(true);
***********************************************************
How can I create data source and data source view and model and structure?
Please say code of that, and guide me.
databasename and srv is unknown.
Do I add other reference with analysis services?

rdsv.DataSourceID = ds.ID
***************************************************************
3)
OleDbConnection cn = new OleDbConnection(ds.ConnectionString);
OleDbCommand cmd = new OleDbCommand(
"SELECT * FROM [" + tableName + "] WHERE 0=1", cn);
OleDbDataAdapter ad = new OleDbDataAdapter(cmd);
DataSet dss = new DataSet();
ad.FillSchema(dss, SchemaType.Source);
*************************************************************
4)
// Make sure we have the name we thought
dss.Tables[0].TableName = tableName;
// Clone here - the original DataTable already belongs to a DataSet
rdsv.Schema.Tables.Add(dss.Tables[tableName].Clone());
rdsv.Update();
5)
MiningStructure ms = db.MiningStructures.Add(miningstructureName, Utils.GetSyntacticallyValidID(miningstructureName,
typeof(MiningStructure)));
ms.Source = new DataSourceViewBinding(dsv.ID);
ms.CaseTableName = "Customer";
Add columns:
ScalarMiningStructureColumn smsc;
// From table "Customer" we will add a couple of columns
// CustomerID - key
smsc = new ScalarMiningStructureColumn("Customer ID",
Utils.GetSyntacticallyValidID("Customer ID", typeof(ScalarMiningStructureColumn)));
smsc.IsKey = true;
smsc.Content = "Key";
smsc.KeyColumns.Add("Customer", "customer_id", OleDbType.Integer);
ms.Columns.Add(smsc);
*******************************************
6)
MiningModel mm = ms.MiningModels.Add(miningmodelName,
Utils.GetSyntacticallyValidID(miningmodelName,
typeof(MiningModel)));
mm.Algorithm = "Microsoft_Decision_Trees";
mm.Parameters.Add("COMPLEXITY_PENALTY", 0.3);
MiningModelColumn mc = new MiningModelColumn("Customer ID",
Utils.GetSyntacticallyValidID("CustomerID",
typeof(MiningModelColumn)));
mc.SourceColumnID = ms.Columns["Customer ID"].ID;
mc.Usage = "Key";
mm.Columns.Add(mc);
mm.Update();
Please exactly say, whatever I want
Thanks a lot for your answer
Please don€™t move this question because I don€™t know where I should write this.

I have set up a new connection as a connection from data source, but I cannot see how to use this connection to create my Data Flow Source. I have tried using an OLE DB connection, but this is painfully slow! The process of loading 10,000 rows takes 14 - 15 minutes. The same process in Access using SQL on a linked table via DSN takes 45 seconds.
Have I missed something in my set up of the OLE DB source / connection? Will a DSN source be faster?
Thanks in advance

Or is someone reading this a Wizard of Wizards. I need a 2nd flavor of import wizard. The one that I would clone out of the existing one would:
Use ASCII not UnicodeUse the copy column control not the Data ConversionThe size of all fields will be 255 not 50.The data type will be varchar.In my cloned wizard, the goal will be to just get the data loaded.
All other goals will be addressed by the user after the data is in the database.
Do I hear a volunteer?
Thanks,

Hi all,
i've setup a SSIS project to import a fairly large XML file with multiple elements into their relevant tables with a few conversions along the way. Now, it all imports fine with no errors BUT, a few of the fields are not converting as i'd like. For example, i have a number of fields where SSIS believes them to be an Int value when actually i want them to be varchars (they have leading 0's on some). So, i've set the xsd to pass them in as "string" and convert it to the relevant length to stop any truncation errors. Some of the fields i'm converting are doing it as i ask but others are still dropping the leading 0's and i can't understand why as they're setup in the same way!!!
sample scripts:
<xs:element minOccurs="0" maxOccurs="unbounded" name="test">
<xs:complexType>
<xsequence>
some data eliminated to reduce space.................
<xs:element minOccurs="0" name="ACTIONCODE" type="xs:unsignedByte" />
<xs:element minOccurs="0" name="RSPCODE" type="xstring" />
<xs:element minOccurs="0" name="TVR" type="xstring" />
</xsequence>
</xs:complexType>
</xs:element>
<test>
<ACTIONCODE>0</ACTIONCODE>
<RSPCODE>00123546</RSPCODE>
<TVR>0000000000</TVR>
</test>
Now, the TVR field imports correctly as a character field but the rspcode does not for some reason - it just drops the leading 0's!!!! There are a number of others that are doing the same but the TVR is fine (
I've also just noticed that the dataflow properties states the problem fields' Metadata datatype as being DT_UI8 etc as opposed to a string as stipulated in the xsd file!!!! This is obviously the issue but why is it picking it up as this type as opposed to what i've set it in the xsd???????????????
any ideas guys???
Cheers,
Chris

I am trying to use the Import/Export Wizard to import all the tables and table data from a PostgreSQL database into dynamically created tables in my SQL 2005 database. I have done this many times in SQL 2000 by selecting the PostgreSQL data source from the drop-down list in the wizard. However, in SQL 2005 this data source is not available.
Yes, I did make sure the driver is installed, and I even created a saved Data Source and a linked server to the PostgreSQL database just to make sure there were no fundamental problems. I also tried using the .NET odbc driver, but it does not give me the very important "Copy data from one or more tables or views" option... which is essential since I am dealing with hundreds of tables.
Any help is appreciated.

Hi
I have an excel source which is a 41 column sheet. The excel filepath is stored in a table and captured into a variable. The excel source import is contained within a foreach loop and will loop through each file and continue until all the excel files are processed. It works fine until it gets to the last file. The import then fails with the following error:
The column "F42" needs to be added to the external metadata column collection.
The column "F43" needs to be added to the external metadata column collection.
The column "F44" needs to be added to the external metadata column collection.
The column "F45" needs to be added to the external metadata column collection.
The column "F46" needs to be added to the external metadata column collection.
The column "F47" needs to be added to the external metadata column collection.
Now when i open the excel sheet and hit CTRL+END the cursor goes to a column 6 to the right of the last column with data in it, effectively column 47 where column 41 is the end of my data.
I guess that the jet engine is trying to import these additional columns but because i am not expecting them there is no destination set up for them in the OLEDB destination and susequently the metadata needs to be added. I do not want to do this as these are excel files originating from the client and i cannot control how many additional columns they are going to "add".
Does anyone have any ideas as to how i can solve this? Is there a way of identifying the last column with data and only importing those columns?
Thanks in advance for any help or experience of this issue

Today I was making a few reports.
When I tested the reports in Visual Studio, they worked great: I got the expected result.
But when I deployed the reports to our reportserver the problem started.
When I click on the directory in which my reports are deployed, I got my 4 reports.
Till now everything worked correct.
But when I click on a report to view the results it went wrong.
I got an error:
"Cannot create a connection to data source 'Live'"
(Live is the name of our data source).
We are using the Windows Logons and I am sure that I have all the rights on the server, I gave myself 'sysadmin' rights, so it should work.
I also have tried it with all the roles assigned on my account, but then it still won't work.
When I modify the data source, and set it to another server en database it works.
The datasource 'Live' exists on a x64 MsSQL server, en the other datasource is on a x86 MsSQL server.
Maybe that is the problem?
Can someone tell me what is wrong?

I was trying to load data using SSIS, Data Flow Task, OLE DB Source, source was a view to a OLE DB Destination (SQL Server). This view returns 420,591 rows from Query Analyzer in 21 seconds. Row length is 925. When I try to executed the Data Flow Task from SSIS, I had to stop the process after 30 minutes, because only 2,000 rows had been retrieved. I modified the view to retun top 440, 000 and reran. This time all 420, 591 rows were retrieved and written in 22 seconds. Next, I tried to use a TOP 100 Percent. Again, only 2,000 rows were return after 30 minutes. TempDB is on a separate SAN Raid group with 200 gig free, Databases on a separate drive with 200 gig free. Server has 13 gig of memory and no other processes were executing.
The only way I could populate the table was by using an Execute SQL Task and hard code an Insert into table selecting data from the view (35 seconds) from SSIS.
Have anyone else experience this or a similar issue? Anyone have a solutionexplanation?

Hi All,
I have a particular issue that has been causing me some problems for a while. I have an SSIS package that imports an excel file into my database, and then performs various data manipulation that I won't go into. The problem I am having is at the import end. The excel source file I am working on is provided to me by my client. It is a fixed format and doesn't change, it contains a header row and there are 32 headings. The trouble I am having is that quite often, the last column is empty, i.e. it contains no data. The header is still there, but theres no data underneath. When I try to import this file using my SSIS package it fails, and complains about needing to remove the metadata for this final column from the External Columns list (VS_NEEDSNEWMETADATA). When I try to preview this file in the properties of the Excel Data Source, the last column does not exist. It's as if it's determining that as there is no data in that final column, that it's unnecessary and not part of the data set, even though it has a header.
Now I've done a bit of research, and found cases that a sort of like mine, I know that the excel file has the first 8 records sampled to determine the data format. This problem suggested to use the IMEX=1 extension in the connection string, which didn't help. I also discovered that when using flat files, if you have odd numbers of columns in your comma seperated list there can be problems. But neither of these issues seem to match the issue I'm facing.
Has ANYONE had a similar problem to me, and can anyone offer any kind of assistance regarding what I need to do to import an excel file that may or may not have data in the final column?
Thanks in advance,
Paul

-DT_WSTR (100) originally is DT_STR(100)

I export a Query result to a File (see above) ...as unicode TXT destination.
OK, now I must to re-import into another DB and here is my difficult...'cause the DT_NTEXT is HTML code and I got always this error:

Scheda field is the DT_NTEXT.
Into connection manager area I modify the advanced tab for the set-up of my fields setting all to:

In every type of action I see no message alert and all seem to be good, but when I try to execute got always same error...

Running SQL 2008. Trying to copy data from one table into another table using SSIS Import/Export Wizard. Now, when I do a straight "Copy data from one or more tables or views", no problems. But when I use the "Write a query to specify the data to transfer", it will not let me get anywhere.
My source table has a field that is setup as "time". It has data, and no problems with the field. I even replicated my destination table structure exactly. But when I try to use the Import & Export wizard, for that one field I get an error stating the source field is unknown and it is labeled as "-1" instead of "time".
I found a couple of of workarounds. One is to cast the source field "time" as "datetime", and then end up with a "datetime2" field in the destination table. Works, but not what I want to store in that field. Second workaround is to use TSQL and use a "INSERT INTO...SELECT...FROM..WHERE.." statement. This works, and gives me the desired results with all data types being same in source and destination, but is a slight pain in the rear end.
I just want the Import & Export wizard to work. It should work. Why doesn't it know what "time" is? I even checked the MSSQLToSSIS10.XML mapping file the wizard is using. This is what it has for "time":
<dtm:DataTypeMapping >
<dtm:SourceDataType>
<dtm:DataTypeName>time</dtm:DataTypeName>
</dtm:SourceDataType>
<dtm:DestinationDataType>
[Code] .....

(Applies to SQLServer 2005 SP1)
We have found that using the SSIS "Import and Export Wizard" using the "Microsoft Excel" data source that there appears to be a maximum column length of 255 characters for any row.
Even when defining the destination table columns as nvarchar(4000), the wizard fails with the errors shown below.
We have found no workaround except manually changing the imput data. There doesn't appear to be any "Advanced" options for the Excel importer as there are for the flat-text importer. So, no question here, just posting the bug so that *next* time someone searches the web for an answer, this post comes up
MessagesError 0xc020901c: Data Flow Task: There was an error with output column "English String" (18) on output "Excel Source Output" (9). The column status returned was: "Text was truncated or one or more characters had no match in the target code page.". (SQL Server Import and Export Wizard) Error 0xc020902a: Data Flow Task: The "output column "English String" (18)" failed because truncation occurred, and the truncation row disposition on "output column "English String" (18)" specifies failure on truncation. A truncation error occurred on the specified object of the specified component. (SQL Server Import and Export Wizard) Error 0xc0047038: Data Flow Task: The PrimeOutput method on component "Source - Sheet1$" (1) returned error code 0xC020902A. The component returned a failure code when the pipeline engine called PrimeOutput(). The meaning of the failure code is defined by the component, but the error is fatal and the pipeline stopped executing. (SQL Server Import and Export Wizard) Error 0xc0047039: Data Flow Task: Thread "WorkThread0" received a shutdown signal and is terminating. The user requested a shutdown, or an error in another thread is causing the pipeline to shutdown. (SQL Server Import and Export Wizard) Error 0xc0047021: Data Flow Task: Thread "WorkThread0" has exited with error code 0xC0047039. (SQL Server Import and Export Wizard)
edit: After searching further this is documented under "Excel Source"
in BOL which provides a registry-based workaround. I guess the issue
is that the wizard considers truncation to be a 'fail' case and
there's no easy way to override this behaviour, specify the column
types nor determine which line is in error)
Truncated text. When the driver determines that an Excel column contains
text data, the driver selects the data type (string or memo) based on the
longest value that it samples. If the driver does not discover any values longer
than 255 characters in the rows that it samples, it treats the column as a
255-character string column instead of a memo column. Therefore, values longer
than 255 characters may be truncated. To import data from a memo column without
truncation, you must make sure that the memo column in at least one of the
sampled rows contains a value longer than 255 characters, or you must increase
the number of rows sampled by the driver to include such a row. You can increase
the number of rows sampled by increasing the value of TypeGuessRows under
the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftJet4.0EnginesExcel registry
key.

Hello:
I am not sure how to implement the following, but I believe it entails using DTS, and hopefully it is fine that I post it here b/c ultimately I will need this backend data for my frontend .aspx pages:
On a weekly basis, I need to IMPORT some data located on a remote Oracle DB into SQL Server 2k. Since there is so much data to transfer, I would only like to transfer the data that is new to the table since the last IMPORT, i.e. a week ago and leave behin the OLD data.
Is DTS the correct way to go or do I have more control via DTS with STORED PROCEDURES? Does anyone have any good references for me?
On a similar note, once this Oracle data is IMPORTED into a certain table, I would like to EXPORT some of these NEWLY acquired rows matching certain criteria into another table for auditing purposes. For this scenario, should I implement a TRIGGER UPDATE event here on the first table?
Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

While importing data from Excel source , some column is getting null value even though excel column has value.To Resolve the issue we tried with
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREWow6432NodeMicrosoftOffice14.0Access Connectivity EngineEnginesExcel
1.Change the Value of the Row TypeGuessRows from 8 (Default value) to 0 and ImportMixedType = text
• xls
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftJet4.0EnginesExcel
1.Change the Value of the Row TypeGuessRows from 8 (Default value) to 0 and ImportMixedType = text
the connection string of the excel
UPPER(REVERSE(SUBSTRING( REVERSE(@[User::VarInputExcelFile]), 1, 5) ) ) == ".XLSX" ? "Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source=" + @[User::VarInputExcelFile] + ";Extended Properties="Excel 12.0;HDR=Yes;IMEX=1";":"Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data
Source=" + @[User::VarInputExcelFile] + ";Extended Properties="EXCEL 8.0;HDR=Yes;IMEX=1";"
by doing the above setting also , the column is coming as null from excel source even though there is data in excel.

Hi all, i got this error:
[DTS.Pipeline] Error: "component "Excel Source" (1)" failed validation and returned validation status "VS_NEEDSNEWMETADATA".
and also this:
[Excel Source [1]] Warning: The external metadata column collection is out of synchronization with the data source columns. The column "Fiscal Week" needs to be updated in the external metadata column collection. The column "Fiscal Year" needs to be updated in the external metadata column collection. The column "1st level" needs to be added to the external metadata column collection. The column "2nd level" needs to be added to the external metadata column collection. The column "3rd level" needs to be added to the external metadata column collection. The "external metadata column "1st Level" (16745)" needs to be removed from the external metadata column collection. The "external metadata column "3rd Level" (16609)" needs to be removed from the external metadata column collection. The "external metadata column "2nd Level" (16272)" needs to be removed from the external metadata column collection.
I tried going data flow->excel connection->advanced editor for excel source-> input and output properties and tried to refresh the columns affected.
It seems that somehow the 3 columns are not read in from the source file?
ans alslo fiscal year, fiscal week is not set up up properly in my data destination?
anyone faced such errors before?
Thanks

I want my XML Data source to be an expression as i will be looping through a directory of xml files.
I don't see the expression property or the connection property??

I've question about how to handle structural datamodel changes in a datasource of PowerPivot. Suppose I'm developing a starmodel in SQL Server and sometimes a datatype changes or a name of a field changes in a table. It seems to me that PowerPivot handle this not gracefully as Analysis MD does (mostly). I received an error because of a wrong fieldname or even no error when a dattype changes in PowerPivot. Is this common or do I something wrong here. Does this mean that every time the datamodel changes the PowerPivot should be recreated? Or am I missing the clue here?

Was wondering if there was a best practice minimum permissions for creating a SQL login to use when setting up a new shared Data source for SSRS report manager?
Something along the lines of them being a data read for the DB and permissions to update tempdb?
Would have thought it not advisable to have the login be able to update the main db...
