I am in process to develop TSql code to identify change in data.
I read about Binary_checksum and hashbyte. Some people say hashbyte is better than binay_checksum as chances of collision are less.
But if we may consider following, chances exist in hashbyte too. My question is what is the best way to compare data to identify change (I can't configure CDC) ?
How do I limit the decimal points in a computed column. SSE 2005 seems to override the precision and scale I set in either GUI or by creating the table by query.
This one has bothered me ever since sql server 2000.
When you do an insert into a table with literally hundreds of char or varchar columns and you get the error that the insert failed due to data loss/truncation on a column.
Is there anyway in 2005 to actually find out what column ? Since there are hundreds is is literally a long process of going though each column 1 by 1 manually.
The database engine surely MUST know what column this occurred on so why can it not tell you which column the truncation occurred on ?
Can this be done in 2005 if not will this information be available in 2008 ?
I have a huge db with many services ,users and applications hitting the db. Suddenly one of our column is nullified , we are not able track who /how it is done,
Can any one tell be whatz the best way to identify this???? trace(what events to select ), trigger or what????
Okay, I now have some dynamic SQL working. This is the SQL statement I have for a report in Reporting Services:
DECLARE @SQL nvarchar(4000)
SET @SQL=(SELECT AdHocSQL
FROM RptValueTypeMap
WHERE RptValueTypeMap.SectionCd in ('ITEM0010'))
EXECUTE (@SQL)
We have a table set up that actually holds different SQL statements based on the report items. This is reading the SQL statement from AdHocSQL for the Report item #0010 and it is returning the results. However, it does return the correct value, but under (No Column Name). I have tried to incorporate an "AS", but I get errors when I try this.
I am familiar, but new to SQL statements and I would like this to return a field so I can use this value in the report. What do I need to do?
I don't wnat SQL's Identify column's format ( which is 123 ...)I want my Prikey column is looks like starts in 000000000100000000020000000003....I set the Prikey columns type is Char(10) not nullis it possible to setting my identify column as I want?
Hi, I want to know how to remove identify property from a column without recreating the whole table... When I do it in Enterprise Manager, it actually drop and recreate the table in background. I just like to know if there is other way without recreating the tables. Thanks! Xiao Tan
I have two columns, one column has a document ID and a given document can have many pages. The second column has the pages. Now I want to find out when the page number is broken. For example, if doc ID 1 has 3 rows and each of the three has 1,2,3 and then the fourth row has document 1 but the value jumps from 3 to 7 and then goes to 8,9,10 and then jumps again and starts from 17, i want to have the ranges identified.
DocID Page Number 1   1 1 2 1 3 1 7 1 8 1 9 1 10 1 17 1 18 1 19 1   20
Greetings everyone, I'm posting this thread with the hope that someone will notice it and might offer me a helping hand regarding one of my problems.I have the database named "DBEXAMPLE" with the table MEMB_INFO that contains two important columns that are named cur_points and points where cur_points column contains the total available points that a member can use/spend on a game and the points column stores the total of the points that a member used so far.So as i plan to wipe all data of the database, i need to keep the member login, password and total points that each member purchased. So i will somehow need to update the cur_points column with the total of current cur_points+points columns and then wipe points column.I've personally asked a friend regarding this and he said that this should be something complicated and it might require php also.Really appreciate if someone could help me regarding this.small schema:Database: DBEXAMPLETable: MEMB_INFOColumn cur_points -> total available points that a member can spendColumn points -> total points that the member has already spentColumn memb___id -> member login aka account idTODO -> update cur_points column with the total of cur_points+points columns for each member(buyer)With best regards.
I am task with identifying the source database name, id, and server name for each staging table that I create. I need to add this to a derived column on all staging tables created from merging same tables on different servers together.
When doing a Merge Join, there is no way to identify the source of data so I would like to see if data came from one database more than the other servers or if their are duplicates across servers.
The thing that bugs me about SSIS Data Flow task is there is no way to do an easy Execute SQL Task after I select my ADO.NET Source to get this information because my connection string is dynamic and there is no way of know which data source is being picked up at runtime.
For Example I have Products table on Server 1 and 2:
Server 2 has more Products and would like to join the two together to create a staging table.
I have created a table and found that i miss named a column. All i want to do is change the column name. But I don't see anything in ALTER TABLE to do that.
I have two tables namely lu_parameter and tbl_param_values. The lu_parameter table consists of param_id and parameter column containing id numbers for the parameter names.
The tbl_param_values table consists of values corresponding to the parameters with the param_id value as the column header.
I want to join these two tables so that in the result query instead of param_id value as column heading, I need to have the parameter value as the column heading.
I have attached the screenshot of the data for reference. I am not that much aware of sql queries.
I am using one Publisher with many subscribers for Merge replication of a database. I wanted to change size one column in a table. So I added a dummy column (through Filter column). Copied data, dropped old column (through Filter column), added new column, copied data, and dropped dummy column. On subscriber A, replication is OK. On subscriber B, I get the following message. -------------------- Initializing Connecting to Publisher 'REPLIC' Retrieving publication information Retrieving subscription information A column was added to or dropped from the replicated table. The schema script 'exec sp_repladdcolumn '[dbo].[Items]','C1',[NVARCHAR(1000) NULL], '%', 1' could not be propagated to the subscriber. The schema script 'exec sp_repladdcolumn '[dbo].[Items]','C1',[NVARCHAR(1000) NULL], '%', 1' could not be propagated to the subscriber. A column was added to or dropped from the replicated table. --------------------
I made a new snapshot, reintialized subscription with upload, and tried to sychronize again. But same message.
Question 1. Is there anyway to make replication? Question 2. If not, can I at least upload data changes before dropping and making new publication?
Hi All, I have a series of tables need to import to server. When creating the target tables, I want to change the columns name as well, for example: Source table column Target table column
Name FN_Name Age FN_Age
The problem is I suppose I don't know the columns name in source table, I want to the tasks scan the source table and make the change programmlly.
Which tasks or approaches can be used to implement this?
I have some data that was entered in the DB in ALL CAPS. I would like to reformat all the rows so that it follows the normal "Capitalization". What is the best way to do this? Shoud I create a console application to accomplish this or is there some way to do it natively in sql server 2005.
Hello,How do I change the datatype of a column in a CSV file. Preferably in the select statement (apparently Cast, Convert, & Replace functions don't work when selecting from a CSV). I have a page where users upload their CSV files to and then I use SQLBulkCopy to insert all the records into my sql table. The problem is with columns of money data. EX: "$2,000" >> 2000The CSV file interprets the "$2,000" as a string of text. How do I convert it to a decimal so I can insert it into my sql database?
How do I programatically change a column (say username) in a table (say tblusers) from varchar(25) to varchar(100)I am looking for something likealter tblusers set username as varchar(100) I know the above statement in nonsensical but it conveys the idea.
We have a little app to help us move applications from developent --> stage --> production. It uploads the files, runs the new stored procedures etc.
One of the things it does is create new columns in existing tables. In EM you can create a new column in any position, but ALTER TABLE seems to only add columns to the end of the table. Is there a way in TSQL to create columns in arbitrary positions in the table? Or do I have to recreate the whole table?
I know we could change the data type or width of a table column in SQl 7 database, but I am not certain if this column is a primary key. Can we change a primary key column width? If we can, how about this column as a foreign key in another table? Will it be automatically updated to the same width? Thanks in advance for your input.
I would like to change column data in all tables in a single database at once.
For instance, i have many tables in a database, and about 30% of the tables has the column "orderplace". And all the data in orderplace (every tables in the database) are "houston". instead of going to each table and "update table set orderplace = 'dallas' " .... is there anyway that i could run a sql statement and it will update all the tables in database that has the orderplace column to "orderplace = 'dallas' " ?
This one is giving me quite a bit more difficulty then I ever imagined it would...
Essentially I would like to use one table to store the change history for multiple tables. I would like to use an update trigger to check which fields have changed in each record, and write a single record for each field that changed containing the table name, field name, previous value and new value to a history table.
I would like to change the output of a column into a hyperlink however I am not sure that is possible without some further post-processing. I am aware I would have to do:
Code: select '<a href="' + URL + '" target="_blank" nav="web">' + tbl_ID.ID + '</a>' from tbl_ID however this obviously just exports the text <a href="[URL]" target="_blank" nav="web">[ID]</a>
This would work fine if I was exporting it into some sort of HTML table however this doesn't work with excel for example. Is there a way to make this possible or would I have to create a macro in excel to add the url with the ID separately?
