After I created the following SET statement in my cube it appears as if SSAS is always calculating it before I can switch to the browser view in BIDS. So it almost becomes a performance issue. Also I cannot see it from Excel, why would that be?

Here is my questions, it would be great if somebody could advice me:
Why can't I see the SET within Excel although I have marked it visible and given it a name? I see other SETs.
In order to not see empty combinations I would like to add the nonempty() function but cannot get it to work. Where would I put it?
If a user wanted to see the Top10 rows based on QTY I'd expect her/him to pick the SET above and the required dimensions along with the QTY measure and the list should come up, is that correct?
My customers use Excel as the front end so I nees a solution that supports that.

When our servers were built the regional settings were left as US even though we are in the UK.
SQL 2000 was then installed using the defaults and so the codepage is set to
SQL_Latin1_General_Cp1_CI_AS
Not realising that the locale being used in the company was US I built another server and set the default locale to UK and then installed SQL server 2000 which resulted in SQL having a different collation.
When I resotred some databases to my new server there were problems with some of the views and it was traced back to the collation settings.
Looking forward, should the company resolve the fact that we have an incorrect collation on our SQL servers? The implication of this is that all SQL servers will have to be built with US regional settings - otherwise our databases will not function.
Is there a compelling reason why we should resolve this - or just stick with it? What are the implications of sticking or changing?
I'm working with a temporal database of inventory which is updated daily. It looks something like this: TableID ProductID InventoryValue DateAdded DateExpired
The DateAdded field is placed when the row is inserted & each time new information is evaluated, it is considered against this row. DateExpired is finally set when a new row comes to replace it with a change in information. That part works.The part that doesn't work is that often, my distributors will omit inventory as a way of specifying a 0 quantity value. So If I had 100 rows & now I have 95, this means that 5 are now out of stock. Considering the way that my db is set up, it's difficult to identify whether no change was made or if I did not receive the inventory value. How would you set it up such that this is a consideration?
I'm outputting a file from a mySQL server that contains 1 column thathas input it many languages. By changing the properties of Flat-file connection I am able to create file with encoding as utf16 or western-European, but not UTF8. What may I be missing?
The code page is set to '65001' for UTF8 and when we uncheck the UNICODE check box then the file generated is "Western European" and If UNICODE checkbox is checked then the encoding is UTF16.
Please help me to generate flatfile with encoding as UTF8.

I am replicating a couple of SQL2K databases via transactional rep and remote 2K distributor to 1 SQL2K5 database.
I want the distributor to email me when/if any of the agents fail etc. In order to set this up, I think that I need the SQL Server service to use a domain account (from error messages that I have been getting). It is currently using a local system account (it was a test box in a previous life).
I have tried this briefly, and found that it lost the publisher details in the replication monitor. Can anyone tell me what the implications for changing the SQL server service user and password are? Am I going to have to tear down and rebuild replication? The SQL Server Agent is fine - I am trying to get the two services in sync.

Here are the steps:-
1 .Create a a package and Data Flow task in it.
2. In the Data Flow Task, insert an OLE DB Source and a Flat File Destination
3. In the OLE DB Source , specify this query :- "select '000' as [record code]"
4. In the Flat File Desitnation, create a new Flat File Connection specify the path and choose Code Page "65001 (UTF8)"
5. I've specified the Data Type "Unicode String DT_WSTR" in the Advanced property
When I execute the task, I get this error :
[Flat File Destination [16]] Error: Data conversion failed. The data conversion for column "record code" returned status value 2 and status text "The value could not be converted because of a potential loss of data.".
I've also chosen the data type "Unicode Text Stream DT_NTEXT" and "string [DT_STR]" but I get errors such as :
"The code page on intup column [record code] is 1252 and is required to be 65001."
The Locale I am using is English(US).
Would be grateful if test can be done for all other data types such as int, datetime, float, decimal, uniqueidentifier, etc.

I heard from a colleague that if my SQL Server has (for example) 5 users, if SQL does connect to SAP, it would require the user license of 5 more users?

I am trying to export the data from a number of MSSQL 2000 tables to UTF8 csv files.
Using the bcp that came with MSSQL 2000 didn't work (UTF8 related), so I am now accessing the 2000 database from within MSSQL 2008 R2 Management Studio and use its Import and Export wizard that does make UTF8 exports possible.
But it fails. This is the error I got for one table.

We replicate a SQL2000 database (DataBaseA) to a SQL2000 database (DataBaseB) by using the Restore function and hasn't change its logical name but only the physical data path and file name. It is running fine for a year. We use the same way to migrate the DataBaseB to a new SQL2005 server with the Restore function and the daily operation is running perfect. However, when we do the Backup of DatabaseB in the SQL2005, it just prompt the error message
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlError: The backup of full-text catalog 'DataBaseA' is not permitted because it is not online. Check errorlog file for the reason that full-text catalog became offline and bring it online. Or BACKUP can be performed by using the FILEGROUP or FILE clauses to restrict the selection to include only online data. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo)
Please note we left the DataBaseA in the old SQL2000 server.
Please help on how we can delete the Full-text catalog from DatabaseB so we can do a backup

Greetings, I have just arrived back into the country (NZ) and back into ASP.NET.
I am having trouble with the following:An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file (file location).../Database.mdf failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share.
It has only begun since i decided i wanted to use IIS, I realise VWD comes with its own localhost, but since it is only temporary, i wanted a permanent shortcut on my desktop to link to my intranet page.
Anyone have any ideas why i am getting the above error? have searched many places on the internet and not getting any closer.

I have a problem when i restore my .DAT_BAK file. I am getting error like "The backup set holds a backup of a database other than existing database. Restore Database is terminating abnormally".
I tried by using

The space is at the beginning file name. Now I am unable get the database loaded to SQL Server. The database has 2 replications configured, so deleting and re-attaching the database means the replication needs to be re-configured. I downloaded and ran AdventureWorks.msi into my SQL Server Management Studio Express (SSMSE) one year ago.But I did not know how to attach it to my SSMSE then. Last week, I deleted it from the "Add or Remove" of Control Panel and I downloaded the new AdventureWork.msi and installed it my SSMSE. Today, I tried to use the Database Explorer of VB 2005 Express for the first Stored Procedure programming. I clicked on AdventureWorks.mdf and I got the following error: One or more files do not match the primary of the database. If you are attempting to attach a database, retry the operation with the correct files. If this is an existing database, the file may be corrupt and should be restored from a backup. Cannot open user default database. Login failed. Login failed for user 'CENADe1enxshc'. Log file 'C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLDataAdventureWorks_Data_log.ldf' does not match the primary file. It may be from a different database of the log may have been rebuilt previously. Please help and advise me how to correct this problem.

I have installed 2 SQL Server 2005 Express sample databases from 2 books, ASPnet 2.0 and ADOnet 2.0. The ASPNETDB.MDF was shown in App_Data and Database Explorer, but not in the SQL Server Management Studio Express. The AdoStepBy Step database created by a ConfigDB.exe was displayed in the Management Studio, but not in the App_Data, or Database Explorer.
Is this the way SQL Server 2005 runs the 2005 databases for SQL Server 2005 Express only? Or also in SQL Server 2005?

I need to import several tables from one database to a different server with a new database name. We need to do this at the end of every year. The main problem here is that the number of tables varies every year. You may not have all the tables as last year or may have more tables. So I need to create a dynamic task that takes care of this every year without changing the package.
I have performed the following tasks **
1. Create a new dynamic database. ( I have used Execute SQL Task to do this) 2. Copy all the table structures ( I have used Execute SQL Task to do this)
3. Import Data. This is the main problem. I was trying to create a dynamic connection string with variables as suggested in several forums but I finally came to know that this cannot be done if the table structures are different as the metadata cannot be refreshed at runtime.
4. The final step to create a process to validate the data (the count from each table for both source and destination. I think this can be done with Sql task.
What is the best method to do this? My DBA does not like “Transfer SQL Objects Task” or “transfer Database Task”. I would like to create this as a dynamic process.
