Access Connection
create a new Connection Manager by right-clicking in the Connection Managers section of the design area of the screen. Select New OLE DB Connection to bring up the Configure OLE DB Connection Manager dialog box. Click New to open the Connection Manager. In the Provider drop-down list, choose the Microsoft Jet 4.0 OLE DB Provider and click OK.
Browse to the Access database file and connection set up---all good!!!
Dataflow task
Add an OLE DB Source component
Double-click the icon to open the OLE DB Source Editor. Set the OLE DB Connection Manager property to the Connection Manager that I created . Select Table from the Data Access Mode drop-down list.
I cannot see the tables set up as set up as pass-through table types to a Oracle 9i db
Any ideas please help
thanks in advance

When importing a Microsoft Access97 database table, I noticed it imported Text fields as datatype NVARCHAR instead of VARCHAR. Why is this, and will this cause me any problems in the future (i.e. related fields in other tables may be VARCHAR,etc)? If so, what can I do about it?

Question: Why would I not be able to import an Access 97 table inwhich some records have null values in fields that allow null values?Wouldn't the table's design be imported first, bringing the columns'"allow nulls" attribute with it?I'm dealing with both text and numeric columns. Not all columnscontaining nulls cause an error. Thanks,Bob C.

I need to import few tables from MS Access to MS SQL but the table structure in Access is always different, as I would like the destination table in SQL to be.
Therefore I would like that a table would be created in SQL at runtime, according to the structure the Access table accessed has.

I am trying to simplify a query given to me by one of my collegues written using the query designer of Access. Looking at the query there seem to be some syntax differences, so to see if this was the case I thought I would import the database to my SQL Server Developer edition.
I tried to start the wizard from within SQL Server Management Studio Express as shown in one of the articles on MSDN which did not work, but the manual method also suggested did work.
Trouble is that it gets most of the way through the import until it spews forth the following error messages:
- Prepare for Execute (Error)

There does not seem to be any method of specifying a number of sessions, so I don't see how to get round the problem.
Does anyone know how I can get the import to work?

Hello all.
I was wondering if there is a way to import an Access database into an MS SQL (MSDE) database using OSQL? I need to write an updater to send out to some customers, that will accomplish this. The Access database and its corresponding SQL database have the same table structure, i just need to update the data. I would like to use OSQL so I can make this process automated, behind the scenes of my GUI updater, for the customer.
I would love to be able to do something like this:
osql -E -Q"IMPORT DATABASE blabla FROM DISK = 'C:labla.mdb' WITH REPLACE"
Any ideas? Thanks so much all for looking.

I want to move my Access 2K database into MSDE. The Access UpsizingWizard crashes (a known bug wi A2K), so I'm using the followingsuggested method:Access --> New --> Project (Existing Database)This asks for the name of the .adp file to create and then launchesinto the Data Link Properties dialog box (so far so good) I select myMSDE server from the drop-down, enter the sa account & passwd, attacha database file and try to select the .adp file that was just created.Unfortunately, the "Select SQL Server Database File" dialog is lookingfor an .MDF file, not an .ADP file.If I try to kludge it and select the .adp file anyway, the TestConnection produces an error:"Test connection failed because of an error in initializingprovider. The header file "D: est.adp" is not a valid database fileheader. The FILE SIZE property is incorrect."Any suggestions on how to proceed?Note:I've got Access 2000 SP1, Visual Studio.Net 2002, MSDE and SQL WebAdministrator running on XP Prof SP2.

Hello,
I'm trying to import some data from a table in an Access Database into my SQL Server.
It's one field I'm having a problem with and I don't know how to get round it.
Basically the field in Access is called "DueToStart" and is a "Date/Time" type field.
It shows values as "09:00:00" etc.
When I try to import this table into SQL, I get the following message, and I don't know how to get round it.
"Error as destination for row number 1. Errors encountered so far in this task: 1.
Insert Error, column 3('DueToStart', DBTYPE_DBTIMESTAMP), status 6: Data overflow.

The problem is that 3 table has to get additional column when it is imported into sql. For example, when an order comes in its intranet application, it will keep track if it is in stock or out of stock checking the product table. those 2 databases ms sql and access or excel has identical columns but sql one has more in addition . This is my first time to work this kind of case and if somebody could give me a abstract step or suggestions to accomplish this.I'll be very happy;)

Hello, All:
I have many, many Access databases that are roughly 1.5GB-3GBs each and they have millions of records. Each MS Access Database file corresponds to one Database in SQL server. I'm trying to simply transform the data as it is in Access to MS SQL 2005.
I'm using the 64 bit version of Windows Server 2003 and the 64 bit version of SQL 2005. The server is running four dual core AMD Operton processors and has 8GB of RAM with a 1TB RAID 5 configuration. I think the hardware should be sufficient but the SQL Server Import and Export Wizard can't seem to handle the large number of tables/records. If I do one table at a time, it works well; however, it produces the following error message whenever I try to import the entire database:
Pre-execute (Error)

Any ideas would be much appreciated!

I have created some DB tables on SQL Server. Now I want to import some data from Access using Data Transformation Services.
The APPLICATION table I have created has the following columns:
AppID, AppName, AppMnem, GripsID, Decommissioned, Last Modified, Modified By
AppID is the primary key and is an identity column with an autoincrement on insert.
The query I used to import the data from Access is:
select `T>Application>General`.`Application Name`, `T>Application>General`.`Application Mnem`, `T>Application>General`.`GripsID`, `T>Application>General`.`Decommissioned`, `T>Application>General`.`Last Modified`, `T>Application>General`.`Modified By`
from `T>Application>General`
where `T>Application>General`.`Application Mnem`='TMS'
order by `T>Application>General`.`Application Mnem`
The transformation I used is:
'************************************************* *********************
' Visual Basic Transformation Script
' Copy each source column to the
' destination column
'************************************************* ***********************
Function Main()
DTSDestination("AppName") = DTSSource("Application Name")
DTSDestination("AppMnem") = DTSSource("Application Mnem")
DTSDestination("GripsID") = DTSSource("GripsID")
DTSDestination("Decommissioned") = DTSSource("Decommissioned")
DTSDestination("Last Modified") = DTSSource("Last Modified")
DTSDestination("Modified By") = DTSSource("Modified By")
Main = DTSTransformStat_OK
End Function
However, I keep gettting the following error:
Error at destination for row number 1. Errors encountered so far in this task: 1.
Instert error, column 1 ('AppID', DBTYPE_I4), status 10: Integrity violation; attempt to insert null data or data which violates constraints.
Unspecified Error
Any ideas as to what the problem is?
Thank in advance

I'm trying to import data from Access table using DataFlow with TransactionOptions- Required.
I just want to "remove" (rollback) all records which my SSIS Dataflow inserts into SQL Server.
First I tried to use normal Jet 4.0 provider - but it causes strange error.
Then I tried to use .NET Jet 4.0 provider - it produces this error :
Code Block
[DataReader Source [540]] Error: System.InvalidOperationException: The ITransactionLocal interface is not supported by the 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0' provider. Local transactions are unavailable with the current provider. at System.Data.OleDb.OleDbConnectionInternal.EnlistTransactionInternal(Transaction transaction, Boolean forcedAutomatic) at System.Data.OleDb.OleDbConnectionInternal.EnlistTransaction(Transaction transaction) at System.Data.OleDb.OleDbConnection.EnlistTransaction(Transaction transaction) at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.ManagedHelper.GetManagedConnection(String assemblyQualifiedName, String connStr, Object transaction) at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime.Wrapper.IDTSConnectionManager90.AcquireConnection(Object pTransaction) at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline.DataReaderSourceAdapter.AcquireConnections(Object transaction) at Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline.ManagedComponentHost.HostAcquireConnections(IDTSManagedComponentWrapper90 wrapper, Object transaction)
Any ideas how to do this? I really need transactions in my solution. With Excel file it works fine.
Thanks for help.

Hi
I have to import some Access 2003 tables into a SQL Server 2005. Since I have to do this every 6 months (different Access db into same SQL-Server) and since I have to check every single row I can't do it with the import data wizzard. I need to import the access tables into "temporary" tables in sql server and from there I'll put the rows into the correct tables...
Does anyone know how to import Access tables into SQL-Server 2005 with C#?
Thank you for your help!

I want to import into an MDB table a csv file.
I'm trying to use the bulk copy table.
my function is:
SQL = "SELECT * INTO [my_table] FROM [ODBC;Driver=Micrsoft text driver (*.txt; *csv) ;Dbq=c:\;Extensions=asc,csv,tab,txt;].table.csv"
db.OpenEx( "Driver=Microsoft Access Driver .mdb);DBQ=c:\access.mdb;", CDatabase::noOdbcDialog );
db.ExecuteSQL( SQL );
when i run this function i get an error : "You cannot use ODBC to import from, export to, or link an external Microsoft Jet or ISAM database table to your database"
when i try to import in the same way a dbf file (insted the csv file) with VFP it's working well.
what seems to be the problem? how can i fix it? or if some one know how can i import a large csv file into access DB in an efficient diffrent way?

Sorry if this is the wrong forum for this, but was as close as I could get. I am an amateur stumbling thru this to "learn by doing". I am trying to set up an access front end for a SQLExpress database, currently all local for experimenting. Trying to import Excel data to a table in the database, using Access "get external data" function. I get errors and the data wont import. Error message won't give me a clue to what is wrong. All fields are named the same. If I convert the excel to a csv or tab delineated, it imports correctly. Just not the excel. Any ideas?
