Use C# To Import Access Tables Into SQL Server

Apr 30, 2007

Hi

I have to import some Access 2003 tables into a SQL Server 2005. Since I have to do this every 6 months (different Access db into same SQL-Server) and since I have to check every single row I can't do it with the import data wizzard. I need to import the access tables into "temporary" tables in sql server and from there I'll put the rows into the correct tables...

Does anyone know how to import Access tables into SQL-Server 2005 with C#?

Thank you for your help!

Import Into Access Tables Using ODBC

Nov 28, 2006

Hi,

I want to import into an MDB table a csv file.

I'm trying to use the bulk copy table.

my function is:

SQL = "SELECT * INTO [my_table] FROM [ODBC;Driver=Micrsoft text driver (*.txt; *csv) ;Dbq=c:\;Extensions=asc,csv,tab,txt;].table.csv"

db.OpenEx( "Driver=Microsoft Access Driver .mdb);DBQ=c:\access.mdb;", CDatabase::noOdbcDialog );

db.ExecuteSQL( SQL );

when i run this function i get an error : "You cannot use ODBC to import from, export to, or link an external Microsoft Jet or ISAM database table to your database"

when i try to import in the same way a dbf file (insted the csv file) with VFP it's working well.

what seems to be the problem? how can i fix it? or if some one know how can i import a large csv file into access DB in an efficient diffrent way?

thanks ishay

Error Trying To Import MS Access 2003 Database Via SQL Server Import And Export Wizard - Too Many Sessions Already Active

Nov 29, 2006

I am trying to simplify a query given to me by one of my collegues written using the query designer of Access. Looking at the query there seem to be some syntax differences, so to see if this was the case I thought I would import the database to my SQL Server Developer edition.

I tried to start the wizard from within SQL Server Management Studio Express as shown in one of the articles on MSDN which did not work, but the manual method also suggested did work.

Trouble is that it gets most of the way through the import until it spews forth the following error messages:

- Prepare for Execute (Error)

There does not seem to be any method of specifying a number of sessions, so I don't see how to get round the problem.

Does anyone know how I can get the import to work?

Why Would Tables Pulled In From ODBC In Access Be Different Than Tables In SQL 2005 Tables?

Jan 24, 2008

I'm new to my company, although not new to SQL 2005 and I found something interesting. I don't have an ERD yet, and so I was asking a co-worker what table some data was in, they told me a table that is NOT in SQL Server 2005's list of tables, views or synonyms.

I thought that was strange, and so I searched over and over again and still I couldn't find it. Then I did a select statement the table that Access thinks exists and SQL Server does not show and to my shock, the select statement pulled in data!

So how did this happen? How can I find the object in SSMS folder listing of tables/views or whatever and what am I overlooking?

Thanks,
Keith

Access 2007 Linked Tables (vs Access 2003)

May 15, 2007

We migrated a MS Access 2003 mdb into MS Access 2007. The mdb has linked tables to SQL Server via a DSN and utilizes a mdw file. In 2003, the username/password is "passed" to SQL Server, so the UID/PWD that is used for opening the mdb, is used in SQL Server.

Opening the same file in 2007 using the same mdw, gives a secondary login on SQL Server.

Is there a way to have MS Access 2007 pass the UID/PWD to SQL Server on linked tables, the same way that 2003 does?

Thanks!

Cannot Get Access To My Access 2003 Database Tables

Feb 5, 2007

I developed a database with Access 2003 and everything was working good until my tech came in and reformated my hard drive and install a new Ghost image that met our company standards.

Now I cannot go in and make any changes to any of the tables, queries and forms. All of this started when a new Ghost image was installed on my pc.

The message I get when I try to open my database is "You do not have permission to run "tblSwitchboard." I get the same error message when I try to do anything at all on the database.

I am at a loss as to what to do. Please help.

Import Access DB Into SQL With OSQL?

Dec 20, 2005

Hello all.

I was wondering if there is a way to import an Access database into an MS SQL (MSDE) database using OSQL? I need to write an updater to send out to some customers, that will accomplish this. The Access database and its corresponding SQL database have the same table structure, i just need to update the data. I would like to use OSQL so I can make this process automated, behind the scenes of my GUI updater, for the customer.

I would love to be able to do something like this:

osql -E -Q"IMPORT DATABASE blabla FROM DISK = 'C:labla.mdb' WITH REPLACE"

Any ideas? Thanks so much all for looking.

Can't Import Access DB Into MSDE

Jul 20, 2005

I want to move my Access 2K database into MSDE. The Access UpsizingWizard crashes (a known bug wi A2K), so I'm using the followingsuggested method:Access --> New --> Project (Existing Database)This asks for the name of the .adp file to create and then launchesinto the Data Link Properties dialog box (so far so good) I select myMSDE server from the drop-down, enter the sa account & passwd, attacha database file and try to select the .adp file that was just created.Unfortunately, the "Select SQL Server Database File" dialog is lookingfor an .MDF file, not an .ADP file.If I try to kludge it and select the .adp file anyway, the TestConnection produces an error:"Test connection failed because of an error in initializingprovider. The header file "D: est.adp" is not a valid database fileheader. The FILE SIZE property is incorrect."Any suggestions on how to proceed?Note:I've got Access 2000 SP1, Visual Studio.Net 2002, MSDE and SQL WebAdministrator running on XP Prof SP2.

Import Of Data From Access DB

Hello,

I'm trying to import some data from a table in an Access Database into my SQL Server.

It's one field I'm having a problem with and I don't know how to get round it.

Basically the field in Access is called "DueToStart" and is a "Date/Time" type field.
It shows values as "09:00:00" etc.

When I try to import this table into SQL, I get the following message, and I don't know how to get round it.

"Error as destination for row number 1. Errors encountered so far in this task: 1.

Import Large Access Database

Jun 21, 2007

Hello, All:

I have many, many Access databases that are roughly 1.5GB-3GBs each and they have millions of records. Each MS Access Database file corresponds to one Database in SQL server. I'm trying to simply transform the data as it is in Access to MS SQL 2005.

I'm using the 64 bit version of Windows Server 2003 and the 64 bit version of SQL 2005. The server is running four dual core AMD Operton processors and has 8GB of RAM with a 1TB RAID 5 configuration. I think the hardware should be sufficient but the SQL Server Import and Export Wizard can't seem to handle the large number of tables/records. If I do one table at a time, it works well; however, it produces the following error message whenever I try to import the entire database:

Import Some Data From Access To SQL Server

Aug 17, 2004

I have created some DB tables on SQL Server. Now I want to import some data from Access using Data Transformation Services.

The APPLICATION table I have created has the following columns:

AppID, AppName, AppMnem, GripsID, Decommissioned, Last Modified, Modified By

AppID is the primary key and is an identity column with an autoincrement on insert.

The query I used to import the data from Access is:

select `T>Application>General`.`Application Name`, `T>Application>General`.`Application Mnem`, `T>Application>General`.`GripsID`, `T>Application>General`.`Decommissioned`, `T>Application>General`.`Last Modified`, `T>Application>General`.`Modified By`
from `T>Application>General`
where `T>Application>General`.`Application Mnem`='TMS'
order by `T>Application>General`.`Application Mnem`

The transformation I used is:

'************************************************* *********************
' Visual Basic Transformation Script
' Copy each source column to the
' destination column
'************************************************* ***********************

Function Main()
DTSDestination("AppName") = DTSSource("Application Name")
DTSDestination("AppMnem") = DTSSource("Application Mnem")
DTSDestination("GripsID") = DTSSource("GripsID")
DTSDestination("Decommissioned") = DTSSource("Decommissioned")
DTSDestination("Last Modified") = DTSSource("Last Modified")
DTSDestination("Modified By") = DTSSource("Modified By")
Main = DTSTransformStat_OK
End Function

However, I keep gettting the following error:

Error at destination for row number 1. Errors encountered so far in this task: 1.
Instert error, column 1 ('AppID', DBTYPE_I4), status 10: Integrity violation; attempt to insert null data or data which violates constraints.
Unspecified Error

Any ideas as to what the problem is?

Thank in advance
