Import Large Access Database

Hello, All:
I have many, many Access databases that are roughly 1.5GB-3GBs each and they have millions of records. Each MS Access Database file corresponds to one Database in SQL server. I'm trying to simply transform the data as it is in Access to MS SQL 2005.
I'm using the 64 bit version of Windows Server 2003 and the 64 bit version of SQL 2005. The server is running four dual core AMD Operton processors and has 8GB of RAM with a 1TB RAID 5 configuration. I think the hardware should be sufficient but the SQL Server Import and Export Wizard can't seem to handle the large number of tables/records. If I do one table at a time, it works well; however, it produces the following error message whenever I try to import the entire database:

Importing data from an Access database, I cannot overcome the limit of 1,000 records.
In DTS, I "copy one or more tables", select tables, run, and cannot see my 1,052 entries.
Where can I set a max size of ~1,500 in my sql target base?

I am trying to simplify a query given to me by one of my collegues written using the query designer of Access. Looking at the query there seem to be some syntax differences, so to see if this was the case I thought I would import the database to my SQL Server Developer edition.
I tried to start the wizard from within SQL Server Management Studio Express as shown in one of the articles on MSDN which did not work, but the manual method also suggested did work.
Trouble is that it gets most of the way through the import until it spews forth the following error messages:

When I import data from MS Access databases, some fields appear as
"<Long Text>" in SQL. I cannot edit these fields in SQL. I have to export
the table to Access, update the field, and then import again.
There's got to be an easier way. What am I missing here?
The field in Access is of type 'memo'.

I was wondering if anyone can help me.
I am trying to import data into SQL Server 7. The table will be 700-800 columns, and the data will be about 150,000 records at a time.
The data source is flat file.
First I create the table using a database schema, and secondly I would like to populate the table.
The problem is that most of the data is numeric, and to be used for statistical analysis.
So far I have tried Bulk Insert, bcp, and dts.
DTS is the only method that has worked in any way, shape or form, but that requires importing each column as a Varchar. Importing to my pre-created table doesn't work, because it is interpreting some of the source columns as character data and refusing to insert them into an int field.
Bulk Insert and bcp both give error messages, and I am wondering if that is because of the size of the insert statement that is required to handle so many fields.
For the moment I am just trying to import the data in any way, but eventually, it will have to be run as an automated process, with the table structure probably needing to be altered as well.
Any help/suggestions would be very greatfully received.

I am attempting to import data from Microsoft Access databases to SQL Server 2000 using the DTS Import/Export Wizard. I have a few errors.

This is a general question on the best way to import a large amount of datato a MS-SQL DB.I can have the data in just about any format I need to, I just don't knowhow to import the data. I some experience with SQL but not much.There is about 1500 to 2000 lines of data. Hi,
I am making a SSIS package that imports data from a application using a custom ODBC driver. The field in the application is set to be a "longvarchar" type field and can be from 2 characters to 2MB of data.
I've created a ODBC data connection in the SSIS package and use a "DataReader Source" to read the data I need. The sql statement is very simple
Select log from tablename
When I try to run the SSIS package with that statement it just goes to yellow on the DataReader Source and stops. It stays like that until I stop it. If I select other fields except for that field it works fine. Also I've been able to get it to succeed getting the log field if I select a log record that's not too big. The largest one I've been able to get is 800 characters, but I got one with 2500 characters that just stops on yellow.
In the Progress log the last line says:
[DTS.Pipeline] Information: Execute phase is beginning.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to resolve this?

Hi,
I am currently importing (and exporting) binary flat files to and from Db fields using the TEXTPTR and UPDATETEXT (or READTEXT for export) functions. This allows me to fetch/send the data in manageable packet sizes without the need to load complete files into RAM first.
Given that some files can be up to 1Gb in size I am keen to find out a new way of doing this since the announcement that TEXTPTR, READTEXT and UPDATETEXT are going to be removed from T-SQL.
I had a quick foray into SSIS but couldn't find anything suitable which brings me back to T-SQL. If anyone knows a nice elegant way of doing this and is prepared to share, that would be grand.

I need to create script that will import large XML files (500 - 7GB) on a daily basis and store the data in a relational db structure.
What is the best and fastest way of importing such files. I have played around with smaller files and found the following.
1. SSIS XML Data Source: It doesn't seem to like the complex elements types and throws out the file.
2. Using Bulk File Import, sorting the file in XML variable and using XQuery to parse the file: This works but it can't take a file more than 2GB in size, so I can't use this method.
3. C# + XML Serialization: This also works, but seems to be terribly slow. I open the DB connection once, so it doesn't open and close for each db call, but still seems like it takes a long time.

create a new Connection Manager by right-clicking in the Connection Managers section of the design area of the screen. Select New OLE DB Connection to bring up the Configure OLE DB Connection Manager dialog box. Click New to open the Connection Manager. In the Provider drop-down list, choose the Microsoft Jet 4.0 OLE DB Provider and click OK.
Browse to the Access database file and connection set up---all good!!!

Add an OLE DB Source component
Double-click the icon to open the OLE DB Source Editor. Set the OLE DB Connection Manager property to the Connection Manager that I created . Select Table from the Data Access Mode drop-down list.
I cannot see the tables set up as set up as pass-through table types to a Oracle 9i db
Any ideas please help

Authentication failed.
Secondly I need to make 2 more changes to the code posted above.
1.If some access database .mdb, has got password protection, then how to include the password in the script, so that one does not have to manually feed in the password during data import work.
2. How to limit the data that is to be imported from the table [Table1001] by including a WHERE Clause, like for example - SELECT * FROM [Table1001] WHERE xdate = '2015-9-16 00:00:00.000')

My client has a rather large database with some very large reports. Some of the reports have around 20 sub-reports a piece. We have decided to move the client's application to a .NET web application and would migrate them to SQL Server 2000.
The only problem is now, designing the reports. I have tried doing what Microsoft says (converting to stored procedures and views) but I keep getting syntax errors on the SQL side of things when I cut and paste.
For example, the following code is taken from Access :

I'm pretty sure it's on the tblProjects.fldDescription Group By, but if I leave it out, it still throws an error. Anybody have any ideas?

I am on a project to develope an route finding system that search for the optimal route to stick with for users of the system. The current version that i've done and successfully run is using normal database access in MS SQL 2005. I stored nodes information in the database and the application will query them using normal "select" clauses and return a datatable object to the application. The result is rather slow cause by the multiple access to database server to query. The application used 8 second to look for a short route withour cosidering lots of calculation of traffic information that i will use later. Any comments on the architecture or approach to switch my algo to T-SQl?

hi all,
i have a large table in sql server 2005 (it has about 6 columns and 10 million records).
i need to work in a linear way on all the records (i know it sounds dumb but i need to work on all records).
now, obviously when trying to work on this table sql server get stuck for timeout or something like that...
i've noticed that a simple function like "select top 100 * from ExportTable" still works.
is there any way to have sql send me the data when it access it so that i'll still be able to proccess it on the same time, i basically work using dataset so that fixing the timeout wont be helpfull since windows probably wont allow me to load this amount of data into memory.
can any1 help?

I have an interesting challenge. we are not allowed to allow users direct access to data in our SQL Server. Audit requires us to take the data out of our production server and pass it to the user. my situation is i have a table in SQl with over 100,000 records and growing. i want to pass that to an access data base. i am utilizing DTS and a data transform.
i s there a better way? the package is running slow and even appears to freeze. i see this amount of data as growing as well.

guys,I have a project need to move more than 100,000 records from onedatabase table to another database table every week. Currently, usersinput date range from web UI, my store procedure will take those dateranges to INSERT records to a table in another database, then deletethe records, but it will take really long time to finish this action(up to 1 or 2 hours).My question is if there is some other way I should do to speed up theaction, I am thinking about use bcp to copy those records to datafileand then use bcp to insert it into SQL Server table. I recently use SQL 7 import utility to import 62 tables from a Access 97 database. It works OK in terms of table and data. But it did not brign in the relationship nor indexes which are despertely a must. Do I have to get upsizing software? If so, what is your recommendation?

Hello all.
I was wondering if there is a way to import an Access database into an MS SQL (MSDE) database using OSQL? I need to write an updater to send out to some customers, that will accomplish this. The Access database and its corresponding SQL database have the same table structure, i just need to update the data. I would like to use OSQL so I can make this process automated, behind the scenes of my GUI updater, for the customer.
I would love to be able to do something like this:
osql -E -Q"IMPORT DATABASE blabla FROM DISK = 'C:labla.mdb' WITH REPLACE"

I want to move my Access 2K database into MSDE. Is there a way to import an access table into Microsoft SQL Server Express with Server Management Studio? I prefer not to use the upsize tool from access. Another option would be to import from a text file, if someone can explain how to do this.
