I need to import a table from my SQL server into a DataSet, for now I use a sqlDataAdapter with the Fill method. I then send this DataSet via a webservice to be modified remotely.
The problem is that when I look at the XML of the DataSet, there is no primary key or <xs:unique> tag and I need to do manually a verification. Is there a way to import a table with all the "restriction/constrainst"???

I'm trying to upload various excel files stored in a folder scanning their sheets. The package has a double loop of foreach, one inside the other: the external pickup the file names, the internal browse the sheets. Everything is working fine but I need to skip one of the sheets that contains only directions for the users. I've tryed to use the restrictions in the foreach but from what I found you can only define the sheet names to use and not the names to be avoided. Does exist a sintax to set name!="directions$" ?
As alternative solution I should use a script component (inside the foreach) that check the variable contents and, if the sheet name is ok, pass the control to the data flow task. Other suggestions?
In SQL 7 what is the max length of a column name? And aren't the restrictions no spaces, must start with an letter and no special characters. Sorry for this one but could not find it in BOL.
Do the restrictions for SQL 2005 express apply to each instance or per server? For example, if there are two instances installed on a dual CPU machine, can each instance be configured to use 1 CPU and 1 GB of RAM?

A question has come up around the following situation where a number of analysts will building data mining models in a specific analysis services databases.
- There is one AS DB for each modeling "project" and the analysts assigned to work on the "project" are grouped together in Windows Security Groups.
- The analysts are only allowed to access the AS DB for their project. To support this security model, we've implemented scripts to create the AS DB for the "project" and then a Role is created within the AS DB called "Administrator" and the members of this role are the members of the corresponding Windows Security Group.
The AS DB, role and membership are created by a machine "admin". After the AS DB is created, it appears that the only way an analyst can build models using Visual Studio (Business Intelligence Workbench) in the AS DB while maintaining the security model is to do the following:
- Run Visual Studio (or BI Workbench) - Select File -> Open -> Analysis Services Database, then specify the database that they have access to.
In this "online" modeling environment, things are working fine. The question is -- is it possible for an analyst to create an Analysis Services Project in Visual Studio and "bind" it to already-created AS DB? This doesn't appear to work, but I may be missing something.
I have a report with multiple datasets, the first of which pulls in data based on user entered parameters (sales date range and property use codes). Dataset1 pulls property id's and other sales data from a table (2014_COST) based on the user's parameters. I have set up another table (AUDITS) that I would like to use in dataset6. This table has 3 columns (Property ID's, Sales Price and Sales Date). I would like for dataset6 to pull the Property ID's that are NOT contained in the results from dataset1. In other words, I'd like the results of dataset6 to show me the property id's that are contained in the AUDITS table but which are not being pulled into dataset1. Both tables are in the same database.
I have a small number of rows in a dataset, Table 1. There is a CLOB on a large dataset, Table 2. They join on a PK. I would like to retrieve this CLOB and add it to the data flow for Table1. In short I want to emulate the following:
Table 1: Small table without CLOB, 10 rows. Table 2: Large table with CLOB, 10,000,000 rows
select CLOB from table2 where pk = (select pk from table1)
I want this to return the CLOBs for the small number of rows in Table 1. The PK is indexed obviously so it should be a fast look up.
Table 1 and Table 2 live on different Oracle databases. How do I perform this operation efficiently in SSIS? It seems the Lookup and Merge Join wont do this.

Hi, I have a stored procedure attached below. It returns 2 rows in the SQL Management studio when I execute MyStorProc 0,28. But in my program which uses ADOHelper, it returns a dataset with tables.count=0. if I comment out the line --If @Status = 0 then it returns the rows. Obviously it does not stop in if @Status=0 even if I pass @status=0. What am I doing wrong? Any help is appreciated.

i have two datasets.one dataset have old data from some other database.second dataset have original data from sql server 2005 database.both database have same field having id as a primary key.i want to transfer all the data from first dataset to new dataset retaining the previous data but if old dataset have the same id(primary key) as in the new one then that row will not transfer. but if the id(primary key) have changed values then the fields updated with that data.how can i do that.
D2 is a list of data. each row in D2 has a classid. D2 may or may not have all the classids in D1. all classids in D2 must be in D1.

A view named "Viw_Labour_Cost_By_Service_Order_No" has been created and can be run successfully on the server. I want to import the data which draws from the view to a table using SQL Server Import and Export Wizard. I am trying to import an xlsx spreadsheet into a sql 2008 r2 database using the SSMS Import Wizard. When pointed to the spreadsheet ("choose a data source")  the Import Wizard returns this error:
"The operation could not be completed" The Microsoft ACE.OLEDB.12.0 provider is not registered on the local machine (System.Data)
How can I address that issue? (e.g. Where is this provider and how do I install it?)

I am trying to simplify a query given to me by one of my collegues written using the query designer of Access. Looking at the query there seem to be some syntax differences, so to see if this was the case I thought I would import the database to my SQL Server Developer edition.
I tried to start the wizard from within SQL Server Management Studio Express as shown in one of the articles on MSDN which did not work, but the manual method also suggested did work.
Trouble is that it gets most of the way through the import until it spews forth the following error messages:
- Prepare for Execute (Error) Messages Error 0xc0202009: {332B4EB1-AF51-4FFF-A3C9-3AEE594FCB11}: An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80004005. An OLE DB record is available. There does not seem to be any method of specifying a number of sessions, so I don't see how to get round the problem.
Does anyone know how I can get the import to work?
I am not sure how to implement the following, but I believe it entails using DTS, and hopefully it is fine that I post it here b/c ultimately I will need this backend data for my frontend .aspx pages:
On a weekly basis, I need to IMPORT some data located on a remote Oracle DB into SQL Server 2k. Since there is so much data to transfer, I would only like to transfer the data that is new to the table since the last IMPORT, i.e. a week ago and leave behin the OLD data.
Is DTS the correct way to go or do I have more control via DTS with STORED PROCEDURES? Does anyone have any good references for me?
On a similar note, once this Oracle data is IMPORTED into a certain table, I would like to EXPORT some of these NEWLY acquired rows matching certain criteria into another table for auditing purposes. For this scenario, should I implement a TRIGGER UPDATE event here on the first table?

... doing the same import when logged on the server, hasn't been giving me any errors, how come. I can from my client without trouble import tables from other DB servers but when ever it is files it won't do it.
I tried as mentioned in other threads rerun setup to re-install SSIS, but as it was already installed it wouldn't re-install. My next move would be to make a clean install, but not sure it would help, as I think this is a buck.
Hi,I am having trouble importing data from an excel spreadsheet into MSSQL Server 2000 using DTS Wizard. The DTS import process issuccessfull, no errors, but only 50 rows of approx. 1500 rows of dataare imported. I tried to remove 20 rows in the excel spreadsheet inthe interval row 0-50. When i later ran the import, only 30 rows wereimported. I deleted almost every row in the interval 0-50, with theresult of the import having 0 rows imported (but job ransuccessfully). I decided to delete rows 0-100 in the spreadsheet inorder to see if the resolved the problem, but it didn't. As Isuspected something in the excel file to be the cause, I exported theexcel spreadsheeet to a tab delimited textfile, with only one row. ADTS import resulted in importing approx 100 rows, double the amount ofthe textfile, but the other 1400 rows were not imported. The data inthe column is containing numeric values only.Please help me! What could possibly be the cause of DTS skipping rowslike that. DTS doesn't feel reliable at all :/Regards,Björn
I am faced with a common situation but there is a little twist that makes it unique and has me stumped. Hopefully someone can point me to a solution or give me enough guidance to figure it out. Here is the situation, I am loading an XML file into a Dataset and need to update SQL tables from that Dataset but the tables are slightly different than in the DataSet. I am using C#, asp.net 2.0, visual studio 2005 and sql server 2005. When I loaded the XML into the Dataset, the Dataset contained 19 tables. I individually loaded each table from the Dataset and determined from that which tables I needed and didn't need as well as determinined which fields I needed or not. I used this information to create my SQL tables. Briefly, when creating the SQL tables, I used the dataset table name as the SQL table name and used the same column names as well. the only difference from the Dataset tables and SQL tables is 1 column has a different name (or to be more specific, a column exists in the datset that does not exist in the sql table and a column exists in the SQL table that does not exist in the dataset table). Also, some tables in the dataset do not exist in the sql Database. I know that I can spin through each row of the tables I need in the Dataset and create an insert command from the row data and insert that into the SQL table but I have 11 tables to do that with. I would like to take advantage of ADO.NET and push the datset information into sql data but I am confused on how to do this. I am confused because not all tables in the dataset are represented in the sql database and though the tablenames and most of the columns have the same name, it is not an exact fit. Can anyone point me to a solution or give me a good game plan that I can search on to help me load my dataset info to a sql DB. I appreciate any help I can get. Thanks.
