Import Conversion Error Caused By Spaces???

I am trying to import a fixed width file where some of the numeric columns are empty. The columns in question are defined as integer columns (of varying sizes) and I am guessing that "empty" columns come across as multiple spaces on the import.
Even though I have "Retain null values from source" checked off, I am still receiving the following error on these empty columns:
Error: 0xC02020A1 at Input Data, Flat File Source [1]: Data conversion failed. The data conversion for column "ToContractExpiryYear" returned status value 2 and status text "The value could not be converted because of a potential loss of data.".
Error: 0xC0209029 at Input Data, Flat File Source [1]: The "output column "ToContractExpiryYear" (51)" failed because error code 0xC0209084 occurred, and the error row disposition on "output column "ToContractExpiryYear" (51)" specifies failure on error. An error occurred on the specified object of the specified component.
Error: 0xC0202092 at Input Data, Flat File Source [1]: An error occurred while processing file "\Nastinus-01ClearingDataOCC20060320ser2mst.20060317" on data row 1.
If it is truly the system treating the column as spaces (and not trimming the value), then the only solution I can think off is to source everything as strings, perform a transform that executes a Trim() (Derived Column or Script ??), THEN perform a transform that converts data types, then do whatever else I need...
Am I missing something? Is this the correct solution?

Hi,
Iam trying to import data from a csv file into my table in SQL Server 2000. My table is called as temp_table and consists of 3 fields.
column datatype
-------- -----------
program nvarchar(20)
description nvarchar(50)
pId int
pId has been set to primary key with auto_increment.
My csv file has 2 columns of data and it looks like follows:
program, description
"prog1", "this is program1"
"prog2", "this is program2"
"prog3", "this is program3"
Now i use BULK INSERT like this
"BULK INSERT ord_programs FROM 'C:datafile.csv' WITH (FIELDTERMINATOR=',', ROWTERMINATOR='', FIRSTROW=2)"
to import data into my table in SQL server and it gives me this error
"Bulk insert data conversion error (type mismatch) for row 2, column 3 (pId)"
I guess i have to use fileformat or something since i dont have anything for pId field in the csv file to make it work...
Please help me out guys and please post a snippet of code if you have.

Does anyone know of any SQL errors that will stop the SQLserve.exe service? I meant the error didn't hang the SQL server service, it stopped the service (from green light to red light).

My program use the mutil-threads, each thread would use AppendChunk to insert a binary file into sqlserver. But program always stopped exceptionally , But I can not catch any exception. It looks like be killed by someone or system.

I wanted to prevent ntbackup from locking my databases during the nightly backup, so I excluded the ...Data folder from the backup set. However, I think that ntbackup is backing up the databases during the volume shadow copy phase of the backup, even though their folder was excluded from the backup set (I verified this setting in the .bks file). Although the lock only lasts a few seconds, the error message is worrisome and I would prefer to skip the databases completely. How can I stop the volume shadow copy from doing this?

is it possible that this error during backup caused Sort Warning???
I sent to support of our Storage and he make result that this caused jobs which have Sort Warning....
if I checked this error on internet, i found problem with Storage or it can be also lot of fullscan and etc.
So it can be also that Order By caused some reading directly from disk and not from memory ? maybe if there is using tempdb right ?

Hi,
Using SQL Reporting 2005:
I have a report which has the Interactive Height set to 0 so that it does not use paging. When I try and print preview the report, I can see the report okay until I go forward after the last page, and then I get the error "An error occured trying to render the report. 0x80004005". I can print the report and it prints fine, but I get a pop-up that says that there was an error printing the report. I've narrowed it down to the interactive size property, but am not sure how to get around it.

Hello
When I call ExecuteResultSet(SqlServerCe.ResultSetOptions.Scrollable) I am getting the following error when the data type is Numeric(18, 4):
Expression evaluation caused an overflow. [ Name of function (if known) = ]
The numbers involved are not that big and work fine when ExecuteReader() or ExecuteResultSet(SqlServerCe.ResultSetOptions.None) are called on the same SQL.

Hi,I need some help. I am getting this error after I complete the asp.net register control and click on the continue button. It crashed when it tries to get it calls this Profile property((string)(this.GetPropertyValue("Address1")));When I look at the stack, it is coming from my ProfileWrapper class which adds user address, city, etc.. from a class which inherits fromSystem.Web.Profile.ProfileBase. Our SQL 2008 R2 relational database has tables with foreign key relationships for part numbers. We receive production data from a separate program and we need to import the CSV data into our database application.
The problem is our separate program creates a CSV file with the actual part number "362S162-33". In our database we have a separate parts table (example: 362S162-33 has identity "15").
We need to import data into a production table that has a "part number" (FK) column.
How can we, when importing, cross-reference the "parts table" to convert the part number to the identity number. We have thousands of parts, so we need this change of part number column to the FK identity automatically on import.
Production Table:
idComponent (PK), [1000]
ComponentName, [Assembly108]
idPartNumber (FK), [15]
ComponentLength, [230.5]
UserMessage, [Assembly is 230.5 inches using 362S162-33]

Recently installed Sql Server 2005 client and am now attempting to import data from a spreadsheet into an existing table. This works fine with Sql Server 2000 but I am getting data conversion truncation errors that stop the process when this runs using import utility in Sql Server 2005.

I am using Advantage ODBC 6.2 to connect to a Advantage Data Server to
push data from a SQL table into this server. I can view the data from
the ADS with DTS and I can insert data by using "Insert into TempTable ("Last
Name","First Name") values ('test','test)" from a Execute SQL Statement. The issue is when I build
up a DTS package to pull from SQL into the Advantage ODBC, I get a
"missing closing ")"" error. I have narrowed it down to the column
names in the destination table having spaces (Last Name, First Name,
and a bunch of others. DBA 101 here). How do I beat this?
I have tried editing the destination column names in disconnected edit
by adding the double quotes but get a "Column Name '"Last Name"' not
found" error. Wrapping them with [] doesn't work. I think this is a
limit on Advantage.
When I try to use Advantage OLE DB, I get an 'Ace32.dll must be newer
then the other dll" error. I am afraid of upgrading Ace32.dll and not
break other things.
So with this said my two questions:
How do I get the destniation column names wrapped in double quotes when using transformations?
or
Is there a way I can do an Insert into Advantage connection(column names) values (Select Values from SQL Server connection)?

I am trying to simplify a query given to me by one of my collegues written using the query designer of Access. Looking at the query there seem to be some syntax differences, so to see if this was the case I thought I would import the database to my SQL Server Developer edition.
I tried to start the wizard from within SQL Server Management Studio Express as shown in one of the articles on MSDN which did not work, but the manual method also suggested did work.
Trouble is that it gets most of the way through the import until it spews forth the following error messages:

... doing the same import when logged on the server, hasn't been giving me any errors, how come. I can from my client without trouble import tables from other DB servers but when ever it is files it won't do it.
I tried as mentioned in other threads rerun setup to re-install SSIS, but as it was already installed it wouldn't re-install. My next move would be to make a clean install, but not sure it would help, as I think this is a buck.

Ok, there is no such program in this folder. The only thing in there is "SQL Server Error and Usage Reporting"...
The other thing I am greatly concerned with is this: All is want is for my webpages to be able to access my database for user authentication. I DO NOT want to grant the internet rights to remote connect to my database.

I get the following error and have been trying to figure out why I keep getting it. Initially, I had placed my project under wwwroot folder and ran it under IIS and it gave this error. Then I moved it to my local C drive and same thing. I am sharing this project with two other co-workers and all our config files and code files are same...they don't get this error but I do. I checked that SQL Server Client Network Utility has TCP/IP and the 'Named Pipes' enabled. I thought maybe I have setting in the Visual Studio 2005 that I'm not aware of that's causing this problem...it can't be the server since my co-workers aren't having this error and can't be anything in the code since all of us are sharing this project through vss. I dont' think using different version of .net framework can create this error. I changed the version from 2.0 to use 1.1x and it gave same error... Any help would be greatly appreciated. i have a weird situation here, i tried to load a unicode file with a flat file source component, one of file lines has data like any other line but also contains the character "ÿ" which i can't see or find it and replace it with empty string, the source component parses the line correctly but if there is a data type error in this line, the error output for that line gives me this character "ÿ" instead of the original line.
simply, the error output of flat file source component fail to get the original line when the line contains hidden "ÿ".
i hope you can help me with issue.

I am using flat file import method.
Whenever the server process the Column 42 with value "11,Nanjing Rd.W, China" which contain 'comma' or '.' it will hit error importing with above message. When i manually change the column value to non comma or '.' (11 Nanjing Rd W China) in the flat file it is ok.
I am using SQL server 2005.
Please advise what need to be done to avoid this error ?
