Import More Than One Excel File Using SSIS (Dynamically)
Dec 6, 2007
I have one share folder ,every month end-user will copy & paste excel file into particular share folder. Ok .
Now i have to create new SSIS package as schedule should run every month to find the file and then load automatically into Sql server tables and then move those excel file to another share folder if file successfully loaded only.
The excel file name will be changing every month. but the format wont change. If any body knows this process or steps.
Please share with me .
Hello everybody... I have a very simple SSIS package that loop throught the worksheets of an Excel file and insert the data into a SQL server 2005 table.
The SSIS is very simple and works fine the problem is that after the Package executes if I double click on the Excel file imported I have the message that the file is in use.
I think that the Excel connection manager of the package doesn't release the Excel resourse but this is only a guess..
Do am I right? If yes how can I release the resource?
I am using VS2012 and creating a package on a 64bit machine to import some data from a .xlsx file. My question is that I am getting an error for the Excel connection manager, do I need to install some kind of excel drive or excel itself on the machine in order to be able to import the data?
I am using vs 2010 and I have an .xls file that I am trying to import into SQL Server 2012, and I have most of it figured out, but I have a date field that is giving me problems, and what I would like to do is put that date in a variable so I can add it to every record in my SQL Table.
I am using a SQL Task Editor with an excel connection and I have no problem getting other data from the excel document and putting into my variable, its just the date that I have problems.
Curently I am using a DTS package which is used to import data from Excel sheet into sql dollar table.
Now, the no. of Excel sheets is more than one and everytime the DTS package and VB Code has to be updated and sql dollar tables has to be increased to the no. of Excel sheets available.
The DTS package being executed by VB Code(.EXE).
How can I modify the DTS package and VB Code so that the import can be done dynamically irrespective of no. of Excel Sheets.
Hi everybody, i'm a newbie to SSIS and I'm having a problem dynamically creating a new excel spreadsheet in SSIS. What I need to do is be able to dynamically create a brand new Excel spreadsheet after a data flow task completes.
In my SSIS package I have a loop container that I am running the same code against 4 servers. I have the package export the SQL data to an Excel spreadsheet that has multiple tabs.
Is there a way I can change the tab on the fly or do I need to create a Connection for the same spreadsheet 4 times Each Connection pointing to a different tab?
I tried to set up a expression for the Excel Connection Manager to use the InitialCatalog for the tab and change it based on the script in the loop however this causes the following error:
An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80040E21. An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft Native Client" Hresult: 0x80040E21 Description: "Multiple-step OLE DB operation generated errors. Check each OLE DB status value, if available. No work was done.". Cannot create an OLE DB accessor. Verify that the column metadata is valid.
I have an issue where I'm trying to export data from Sql Server tables (or from a result set in a SP or view) into Excel Spreadsheets. Normally I would use a simple data flow to do this. However, I need to do this on-the-fly because the schema of the Sql data is not static. The table could be a different one or the result set would have column schema that is not always the same.
The constant in all of this is that the spreadsheet columns and the table (or result set) column schema is identical. It's just that the column count and column names are not defined at design time, but would need to be defined at runtime.
Going from Excel to Sql Server is simple as I used a Script Task and the SQLBulkCopy class to dynamically transfer the data. However, BOL says that it's only one way (Data to Sql Server). Basically I need the to go the opposite direction now.
I have all of the information (SQL Table server, database, schema, and name and the Excel file path and name) already set up in variables and running through a ForEach container and I can dynamically change the variable information. I just need to figure out how to dynamically map the columns, create the spreadsheet file, and load the data into the spreadsheet. I'm sure this has been tossed around before. If someone could point me in the right direction I would most grateful.
Hi. I need to import excel file in database. i first need to do an unpivot task. the column names are dates and SSIS seems to be unable to pick up the column name as it is replaced by F2 F3 F4etc Can you advise of a solution. thanks ken
I have a situation where I want to load the Excel file dynamically, and the excel file have different columns or even worksheet name. How I could approach this? I believe there's no way to modify the meta data (specifically the mapping) in the data flow.
Is there anyway to send excel file from ssis using send mail task without saving the excel file locally. I need to automate the process which involves loading the excel file from the database and send it to some people.
I am new to SQL Server and am trying to import rows from Excel using SSIS and am getting the following error.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to resolve??

In SQL Server 2000 DTS there is an Extended Connection properties window that you can set the IMEX property for importing Excel spreadsheets into a SQL Server table. Does anyone know where this is in SQL Server 2005 SSIS?
Trying to upload excel in server where excel is not installed. BIDs was there in the server, when i am trying to craete Excel source I am not able.what the workround for this.. How to upload excel without excel installed on the server.

Hi all, I am trying to import excel file to SQL server using web application. I have been browsing all day long trying to get some helps but I found none that really solves my problem. :( I am aware that I can use DTS in SQL server, however I want to build a web application for it. I can upload the file on the server, my problem is I want to load the data in excel file dynamically; I will need to create a table in the server dynamically everytime I import an excel file. Please help!!!Thanks Irma
Hi folks. I am having an excel file. I need to import this file to database and update some other tables with data contained in this file. I would like to automate this process as much as possible. Now, I am just using SQL Server Import Wizard to create a table and then I am running an update query. Is there any (more automate) way to do this?
Hello:I need to import an Excel file to SQL Server. The .xls file has the column names which containsdot inside, like AAA.BBB. When I import this filein SQL using DTS Import/Export tool, it creates a tablewith column names like AAA#BBB.So, during import process the dots substitutes with #.Could you, please, give me a hint how to fix the problem? Thanks,GB
Now i would like to use the foreach loop structure in an SSIS package to loop through however many Excel files are placed in a directory and then perform an import operation into a SQL table on each of these files sequentially.
Trying to figure out the best method of reading in a number of flat files, all with different number of columns and data types and outputting them to a database.
Here's the problem: They are EBCDIC encoded and some of the columns are packed decimal. I've set up one package that takes the flat file, unpacks the decimal (Using UnpackDecimal component) and then sending the rest through a second component to go from EBCDIC -> ASCII.
What I need is a way to do this for every flat file based on the schema for that flat file. One current solution is to write a script/app to create the .dtsx XML file and then execute that for each flat file. It appears like this may be possible, but I haven't gotten far enough to know for sure. So my questions are this:
1) Is there an easier way to do this (ie somehow feed the schema to the package and use it to dynamically set up the column makers and determine which columns get fed to the unpack decimal component.
2) If there isn't a better way, will dynamically creating the .dtsx XML file based on the necessary input/output columns for each flat file work? If so, what is a good source of information on this (information about how the .dtsx XML file is set up, what needs to be changed/what doesn't, etc).
So this one has been bugging me for a while and I am ready to punt...
Is it possible to dynamically create a text file destination in SSIS and then pump the results of a query stored in a variable to this text file?
So my package looks like this 1) SQL task that pulls back a list of tables to be exported 2) For Each Loop ADO enum that passes the table name to a SQL Task that builds the select...ie select * from <DTS.Variables()> 3) Data flow task that sets the command from variable from step 2 4) Text File destinaiton that is built using a varable as the connectionstring
I am delaying validation in steps3 and 4 above without any luck...basically I am curious if i can even do what I am thinking I should be able to do here...I get as far as getting metadata errors because SSIS can't seem to handle dynamically filling the pipeline with the columns from the variable/SQL statement.
I have an SSIS package that imports from an Excel file with data beginning in the 7th row.
Unlike the same operation with a csv file ('Header Rows to Skip' in Connection Manager Editor), I can't seem to find a way to ignore the first 6 rows of an Excel file connection.
I'm guessing the answer might be in one of the Data Flow Transformation objects, but I'm not very familiar with them.
Hello, I have the following scenario, and my main question is why Excel Formatted file errors out while TXT formatted file does not? Any workaround would be helpful, but I do want to avoid dtexec, and still want to manage it as SSIS.
MAIN ISSUES - permission issue & excel connection issue
SSIS Package Run Directly (not SQL Job, not automated) * Every format and and folder location works!
Package Run under SQL JOB TXT Format A. Project Folder - GOOD B. Client Folder - FAILS! Conclusion - TXT Format works, but Client Folder does not have sufficient permission for PRODsvcSQLDMS
EXCEL Format A. Project Folder - FAILS! B. Client Folder - FAILS! Conclusion - EXCEL Format DOES NOT work. Maybe SSIS Excel Connection Bug.
Hi, I'm developping a web application and I need to import a data from an excel file to sql server 2005. It works very well locally (visual studio & sql server & the excel file on the same machine). But it doesn't work when visual studio & excel file are in a machine and sql server is in another server. I have always the same problem: 'C:Documents and SettingsmomoBureauFile.xls' n'est pas un chemin d'accès valide. Assurez-vous que le nom du chemin d'accès est correct et qu'une connexion est établie avec le serveur sur lequel réside le fichier. Could any one help me please ?! Thank you in advance.
