I've got a csv that I need to import. It's about 74 columns wide and 2500 rows long. What I need to do is select the first 3 columns from the columns from the csv and put them into one table and then put every 7 columns (plus the 1st column as the primary key) into a different table.
I've not explained that very well, basically it's like this...

I'm not really sure were to start. I want to import the data nightly into the tables. I've tried to use the import wizard but I can't seem to select the data I want and exclude the data I don't.
HiI am new to SQL and am having problems importing data from two tables to one.I have 3 tables : Franchise, Club and Reference.Franchise has FranchiseID as Primary key and FranchiseNumber as unique.Club has ClubID as Primary key.Reference has a combination of ClubID and FranchiseNumber as primary key. Does anyone know how I can do this? I have 2 tables in an ODBC datasource (INV HEADER) and (INV DETAILS). The relationship on these 2 tables is (INVNUM). I want to import these tables into SQL 2005 on a nightly basis by date. The problem is the date field is on the (INV HEADER) table and not the (INV DETAILS) table. Basically I want to import all the (INV DETAILS) rows that have the same (INVNUM) as the (INVHEADER) but don't know how to do this. I could use a join on the source tables but how would I direct specific columns to 2 different destinations? Any help on this would be great and appreciated. Thanks
I am going to set up a new SSIS package that will import data into 5 different tables on a SQL Server database. Â The source of the data is on another SQL Server and I will use to select the data. Â If one of the tables fail to import I do not want the SSIS package to import any of the data.What is the best way to create this package? Help - I need to import data into an existing table. Most import rows were unique, so I had no problem using DTS and appending. However, some import rows match existing rows except for one column/field that contains updated/new data, and I have to either replace the entire row with the imported row, or replace the individual field with the new data. How do I do that when there are many rows to import? It would take forever typing in all the data using UPDATE. Thanks in advance for your help!
I have a new problem when I import data from an xml source file in two destination tables. The two tables are linked by a foreign key... for example :
table MOTHER (MOTHER_ID, MOTHER_NAME)
table CHILD (CHILD_ID, MOTHER_ID, MOTHER_NAME)
After a lot of transformations data are inserted into MOTHER table and I want to insert other fields of the data flow in CHILD table. To do this, I need the MOTHER_ID field that is auto incremented in MOTHER table.
My problem is to chain the insertion in CHILD table after the insertion in MOTHER table to be sure that the relative row in MOTHER table is really inserted. I haven't find any solution to chain another transformation task after my flow destination "Insert into MOTHER table".
The only solution I have found is to create a new flow control to insert data in CHILD table, using a lookup transformation task to bind with MOTHER table... But with this solution all my flow control transforms are made two times...
Is there a solution to chain two insertions with a foreign key constraint in a data flow?
Does anyone have any great suggestions on how I can import an online XML file into an SQL 2005 table?
So far I tried to accomplish it with SSIS Data Flow Task where my source is XML Source (Data access mode: XML file location; XML location: URL, Use inline schema = True). This set up properly identified the columns to be imported.
I used Copy Column data flow transformation task to load data to OLE DB destination table that has same structure.
When I run the task it does execute with no errors, however the table remains empty. It looks like I am failing to read the actual data.
Do you have any suggestions? I am willing to go around this approach with stored procs/com/you name it €“ just make it work!

I am using windows authentication to access SQL Server 2005 objects. I have created a database role which grants select permission to only 2 tables in the database. I have added the domain user to this role. So the user should be able to select data from only those tables but when i try to select data from other tables also it displays the data which shouldnt happen. Could you please let me know whether there is any specific setting that needs to be done? Also is there anything to do with the schema level permission setting?
Using SSRS 2008 r2...I have a report with a single-value parameter and three multi-value parameters, Class1, Name2 and Name3. I'm hoping for an explanation to one thing that I'm seeing and information on a second thing.
Class1 and Name2 both have the (Select All) parameter selected but Class1 is displaying the concatenated parameter variable list whereas Name2 is showing Null. Why is that? If anything, how can I get Class1 to be similar to Name2 and show Null?But my desired wish is to have Class1, Name2 and Name3 display the text"All Selected" when the parameter (Select All) is chosen.
I have created a Transactional Replication Publication on my SQL 2012 server.When I log into another server on the domain running 2008R2 and try to subscribe to the 2012 Publication, I get the following error when clicking on "Add SQL Server Subscriber": "The selected Subscriber does not satisfy the minimum version compatibility level of the selected publication"

I have 4 Tablix and 2 of the Tablix get data from Server 1 and other 2 get the data from Server 2.I have set NoRowsMessage "=Data Not Available for the Selected Values"  for all the 4 Tablix.Now if data is not available from Server 1 then I must show "Data Not Available for the Selected Values" only once in the  outputbut now its appearing twice in the output because of the 2 tablix that had no rows.Similarly if data not available from Server 2 then it should show "Data Not Available for the Selected Values" only once in my output.If Data not avilable from all the Tablix then also i t should show only once as "Data Not Available for the Selected Values" in the report output.
I am wondering is there any way to select only a portion of a data set to train the mining model? In this case, I mean we dont need to split the dataset in advance, what I want to do is being able to select any random portion of a selected dataset to train a mining model. Any advices?

Its 2 tables "Courses" and "Facilitators" The Course table contain: Course_Id and Course_Name The Facilitators table contain: Facili_Id and Facili_Name
The two tables have (many to many) relation between them. So I split them into a 3rd table called "Trans" which contain the PK from each Table That will be : "Trans_Course_Id" and "Trans_Facili_Id"

Hi, I've just got my brand new shiny SQLServer and would like to set some new tables set up etc. But I'm really lazy and I was wondering if there is any way of importing table layouts, coulmns, whole structure type thing into SQLServer from Microsoft Access using DTS? 1) Transfering the .mdf and .ldf file from one installation to another installation
2) Generating the records of all the tables in the database to a common file format CSV and then loading it in destination database. If this is ok then how to generate import and export data using CSV format
I've been trying to reinitialize the membership database, but something stops me. I have tried deleting aspnetdb.mdf from the App_Data folder. This works fine, and then a new one is created when I use the asp.net adminstration tool. I can use the server explorer to view the table content (all null). Hello, When I am using DISTINCT in the SELECT clause for a table having a column of datatype "ntext" in SQL 2000 as well SQL 2005, it fails giving the error as "ntext data type cannot be selected as DISTINCT". This is coz "The text, ntext, or image data type cannot be selected as DISTINCT."
But I am able to insert into a temporary table having a column whose datatype is nvarchar) using this SELECT clause in SQL 2000. Please advice me how this happens. If I am not worng, implicit conversion has happened. But this insert fails raising the same error in SQL 2005. Please help me to find the difference thanks in advance!
hello, i have a problem after importing my db tables to the aspnetdb the default database that come with visual studio i put my tables into that db but i added some columns to the aspnet_users and i made a relation between my tables and some of aspnetdb tables the problem is when i drag and drop a grid view and manage its datasource i cant find the columns that i add to the table? second problem is when i press the advanced button in the datasource the two checkboxes are not active i dont know why and i clicked on the column that has the primary key but i still have the problem i cant update or delete records and i tried on the original aspnetdb users table(without my columns or anything) also found that two check boxes not active? is it a problem in the aspnetdb or what? there also something strange when i choose the tables in the sqldatasource the aspnetdb tables names are appear like this : vw_aspnet_roles vw_aspnet_users ...etc they all has that vw word dont know why it also exist in the original aspnetdb, so hope anyone can help cos if it's no solution for that problem i will have to build my db again from the begining ,hope u reply soon.thanks
I am trying to import application tables from oracle but they do not show up in the list of tables. I suspect that this is because the tables are owned by System. Is there any way other than changing the owner to get these tables to appear in the import list?

Hi, I need to write a script that will be called during the database upgrade of my application. This is part of reorg of the tables. The script has to get data for say 4 columns from table A and insert it into another table B. Table B has identity insert column and remaining 4 columns matching the ones to be copied. The data is dependent on user database, hence number of records needs to be copied might be different. Also the columns can have null values.
I tried using bcp Command as follows.. bcp "select colA,colB,colC,colD from A" queryout "c: empA.dat" -t" " -r"" -c
I'm able to get the dat file, but not the format file. Can anyone tell me how to get it using query file with -c option. Also if there is better option to copy data, kindly let me know.
I'm having a problem building a query for an application I'm writing. Basically, there are a bunch of records in a table, and some of them may have the same identifier code. I only want one of each identifier code. The table looks like this:
Memo --------- Msg_Identifier varchar(60) Memo_ID int (pk) Subject varchar(64) Message text Priority int Deleted int
My query:
SELECT DISTINCT Msg_Identifier, Memo_ID, Subject, Message, Priority FROM Memo WHERE Deleted = '0'
When I run this query, I get "The text data type cannot be selected as DISTINCT because it is not comparable."
I only want Msg_Identifier to be the distinct field, and it's obviously not set up as text. I've used SELECT DISTINCT in the past but I don't ever recall hitting an issue like this. What's the best way to do it?
