In Query Builder Design View, How Does The Filter Operator MDX Work?

Good morning all,
I have searched everywhere for this and I can't find any information on it. When I use the Query Builder, in the top pane, the Filter pane, there are five columnsimension, Hierarchy, Operator, Filter Expession and Parameters.
In the dropdown for Operator, one of the choices is MDX. I cannot find any documentation on how to use this operator. I want to limit my filter to SELF_AND_AFTER, and I am hoping that this is possible using this operator. I know how to hand code it, but I have a ton of other tweaks to make to the query, so I want to use the Query Designer as much as I can.
Does anyone have any links to documentation on how to use this operator?
I have a very frustrating problem. But given that this is a development forum, I'll keep that for my 'Envelope Lickers Rehab' and instead talk about an issue I'm having.
I have a very large query (line-wise) that executes in less than a minute when run from the SQL Management Studio as well as via Excel Services.Â
It is a stored procedure with one parameter. When I try to prime the designer with this query it gives me the following message:
"Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding. The statement has been terminated."
I've considered cracking open the xml source and manually creating the fields, but I'd rather not go there.
In the wizard we are creating, we are also letting the user choose the operator for each parameter that they choose. My question is how can I change the filter dynamically based on the user choosing a specific parameter and also choosing an operator to associate with that parameter??
Example 1: User 1 chooses the Company parameter to filter their report, and they choose the parameter to equal (=) a specific value. So the filter expression would be like the one previously mentioned and the operator would be an equal sign.
Example 2: User 2 chooses the Company parameter to filter their report, and they choose the parameter to be LIKE a specific value. So the filter expression would be like the one previously mentioned and the operator would be LIKE.
Even though I select "Column Names" in Design View when creating a query (or view), only "* (All Columns)" appears in the table box.
In InfoPath, when I connect a combo-box, err drop down box, to the database, I am unable to connect directly to a table... no tables are shown. If I select a different database, these problems do not exist.
I can not find any setting to allow these columns to be shown in the design view or any setting that will "expose" the tables in InfoPath.
I tried creating a new database and exporting the data, tables and data, from the troubled DB to the new DB; however, the new DB exhibited the same behaviour. The system tables, Master and Model, have the same behaviour. Please help me with your ideas and suggestions... thank you very much for your time.
This database was upsized from Access 2003 to SQL Server 2000 SP4.
It seems that when I use the Range(inc.) as the filter operator for a Dataset and then try to use the Last and First keywords to extract the results from the dataset in the layout the results are sometimes wrong and don't match the expected.
Does anyone knows of any issues that would affect this filtering mechanism?
Is this a known issue? When I try to filter my report using Like operator on one of the Report parameters/dataset field it returns nothing. If I use = it works? Any ideas how to use the "Like" operator in reporting?

All the categories under reporting to Parent_ID 0 or continuous, then the ones reporting to 1 and so fourth. Subcategories are not showing within their main categories. I AM GOING NUTS WITH THIS.
i wand to filter the report based on the  country  as Canada and france  by Using Filter but Not with Parameter..Similarly How to use Not In  Operator also.
Hi all, when i create a reports deploy on the Report server, i usually choose a filter prompted on Run. The lsit containt for example the list of my customers, but the list in empty like i want (like that, user can put a list from excel by copy-paste). But ... , if the want all the customers, what is the " * " operator to select all my records ?
Can anybody please let me know if cascading parameter feature of Report Designer can be implemented in Report Builder in any possible way (using filter or report parameters).
We have a scenario where the end user wants to create an adhoc report with two input parameters (or filters). Both the parameters will be selected from a list of available values at run time. The problem is that the second parameter's list of values should be populated based on what is selected in the first parameter.
Guys, In my report builder when I drag the SKU in the filter area, its doesnt give me the dropdown and show me the distinct values, it just gives me a text box and expects me to type in the SKU. I have other attributes whcih have the same property as SKU but they all work fine when I drag them into Filter area.
Is there a limitation in reporting svcs where if the Field has more than "n" number of distinct records it will not populate the dropdown, instead just present you with a text box?
My DataModel Table has around 110K records and roughly 7K distinct SKU's
I compared the SKU field to other fields in the Report Model Designer and also DataSource View and nothing seems to be out of normal to not show the dropdown with distinct values except for the # of distinct records.
When applying a filter in Report Builder the filter will timeout when loading data for the filter. It does not happen all of the time seems to happen more often during the business day. Has anyone else run into this probelm? Is there a way to increase the timeout?
Im creating a filter in Report Builder with a start date and an end date. That is I want the user to able to choose a dateinterval. How do I change the label shown in the report for the interval. I want it to say Startdate and Enddate not what I have in my Sql server
I would like to do something like a SELECT * FROM Files WHERE (Attributes & ?) but the & operator isn't recognized. I looked at the documentation sample for it and in the sample the & operator isn't used in the WHERE clause so I thought that might be the reason but I still can't get the operator to work. So even the doc sample code for it doesn't work.
I have built a data model in visual studio that I am using with report builder in reporting services. The data model is using data from a view in SQL Server 2005. I am trying to apply a filter to the data model to restrict the data available in report builder. I know that I could change the code for the view and filter that data that way, but I would rather creates two models each one producing differnt sets of filtered data. I have tried adding a filter to the data model, but it does not seem to work. Do anyone have any suggestions?
when i use a filter in report builder, it's not able to retrieve the information to populate the dropdown menu, the dropdown menu is empty. I get a triangle with exclamation mark and the following message and the drop down box is not being populated:
the requested list could not be retrieved because the query is not valid or connection could not be made to datasource
I am able to generate reports but not able to use filter. what could cause this issue ?
I am trying to use a wildcard in a Filter condition within a SSRS - Report Builder report.
Are wildcards of anytime in fact allowed in this tool? I get errors when I try to use SQL-like wildcards such as '%'. I've also been unable to find any mention of "wildcards" in HELP.
My Problem ========= I have a problem with a parameter drop down that is on my report. On one report server (i.e. a SQL Server Reporting Server instance), the drop down data is ordered correctly. On another, it appears to be random.
The report is created using Report Builder v9.0.2047.0.
I have used SQL Server Profiler and I have found that an "order by" clause is appended on one of the report servers, while it is excluded on another.
About my Set-up ============ I have configured multiple report servers (i.e. SQL Server Reporting Server instances) on a single SQL Server 2005 instance. The SQL Server 2005 details are: productversion = 9.00.3054.00 productlevel = SP2 edition = Standard Edition (64-bit)
Another post (http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1379591&SiteID=1) puts this problem down to SP2. However, both my report servers are on the same SQL server instance.
I also see that Bob has a blog on a possible solution for this: http://blogs.msdn.com/bobmeyers/archive/2007/10/11/sorting-the-values-in-parameter-dropdowns-in-report-builder.aspx. However, I would like to understand why the report is behaving differently.
In Report Builder, can you link prompt/filter fields to one another? For instance, I have Users and Groups and I want to dynamically fill the dropdown for Users based on the Group(s) chosen in the group prompt/filter. Or show the hierarchy as a expanding tree list for navigating the hierarchy to choose the user/groups to report on.
Another example would be product category & subcategory in adventure works.
And just to throw in a wrench, one of the areas I want to do this has 4 levels to the hierarchy.
Hope someone can help here. Since installing Service Pack 2 onto our SQL 2005 instances our report models are not working correctly. When selecting fields within the models as filters, and getting them to prompt when the report is run, the ordering of the data within the filters does not match the selected ordering in the model definition. The ordering is random each time the report is run.
This issue does not happen when setting the filter up, the data appears in the correct order, but when running the report the filter data is incorrect.
I have spent the last 4 hours building a new system and testing this with each stage of service packing. The RTM version of SQL 2005 is ok, SP1 is also OK, but when SP2 is applied the ordering fails.

Some tables i have in a report. A couple of them work, but 2 others dont. I would do it in the query, but then i wouldnt be able to group them in a list.
So my question is, how come i can filter out my BillcustomerCode, but when i want to filter out my subbrand_id (which is an int) or subbran_ Descrition(which is a varchar). how would i filter out these types in the table filter.
Also, how would i do an "Or" instead of an "and" in my filter too.
I have one table where i need to have 3 things not in the table: Bill_Cus_code !=RNPROF Bill_Cus_code !=RNPROC Sub_Brand_Id ! =65 (or Sub_Brand_Discription != "Pro Club")
how do i do this in the expression. It seems to take out "RNPROF and RNPROC" but not the third one. Why is this?
I have a report model based on Oracle database. My model contains 3 tables and one of them has about 20 millions records. When I create a report using Report Builder, it just a very simple report - 2 columns: name and total sales, the performance is really slow. I am wondering how the report builder + report model works. I did apply a filter and expects to see around 40 rows ( I knew it because I ran a SQL query).
Is there anyone could help me? Perhaps SSRS Team? I am trying to promote Report Builder as an ad-hoc tool in my company.

My problem is the FILTER within the SCOPE statement does not work. How to modify the filter in SCOPE? OR How to make IIF Aggregate correctly?
Does any body know that creating free form rports using Report Builder is possible?
Free-form report - in the sense - that user should be able to drag the fields from the leftside fields pane and drop on body as we do in report designer using BI studio.
I could not figure out a way to do so. Is this a limitation?

I have a power view report with some filters. I want some of the Filters to be just Single Value Select Filters like dropdowns instead of Multi-Select ,as multiple selected values can show garbage data. Also it is very inconvenient for the end user to keep unchecking/clearing the previously selected value and then select the appropriate value. Is there a workaround or is it a limitation that has yet to be addressed???Â
In Report Builder 1.0 you could drag a column to a filter and see the data before select the values for the filter.I can't find a way to do that in report builder 3.0. is it possible to see the data of a column in Report builder or SSRS?
I have a stored procedure that takes a date range and returns all the sales in that date range. I'm trying to create the report model for ad-hoc reporting. When I go to create the dataset view, it only lets me select tables or views.... how do I get around this?
