Incorrect Warning About Missing DtsConfig File
Dec 1, 2007
I built my package on my development machine with a config file at a given location. Let's say:-
C:DevelopmentdtsConfig.xml
Then I shipped my package to the Production machine and ran my package (in a .bat file) as follows:-
DTExec /FILE "C:ProductionPackage.dtsx" /CONFIGFILE "C:ProductiondtsConfig.xml"
But I get the following output:-
Microsoft (R) SQL Server Execute Package Utility
Version 9.00.3042.00 for 32-bit
Copyright (C) Microsoft Corp 1984-2005. All rights reserved.
Started: 10:01:27 PM
Warning: 2007-11-30 22:01:29.52
Code: 0x80012012
Source: Package
Description: The configuration file name "C:DevelopmentdtsConfig.xml" is not valid. Check the configuration file name.
End Warning
...
But then it goes on to read values from my Production config file.
How can I stop the annoying warning about my Development config file-path (which doesn't exist on the Production machine)
Thanks

All,
I'm getting a strange truncation warning in a data flow, similar to what is posted here:
http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2629939&SiteID=1
In my case, I have a column in a pipeline that is DT_STR with a length of 20. I'm trying to insert data from the data flow into a table (via an OLEDB destination) in which the destination column is varchar(50). When I review the metadata throughout the data flow, everything looks correct. However, I get a truncation warning stating that data loss might occur when inserting data into the string column of length 20 from a source column of length 50. Thus, it looks like the data flow is swapping the metadata for the source and destination columns when validating the data flow (and thus, producting the warning).
This is a pretty complex data flow, so I'd rather not have to rebuild it. And changing the metadata of the source column to be DT_STR with a length of 50 is going to wreak minor havoc in the data flow (as lots of things use that column).
Has anyone seen anything similar to this? The post referenced above deals with a package that is constructed programmatically, but the package I'm working with was created the old fashioned way...
Any help would be appreciated.

Hello all,
I'm trying to easily change a value in 80 ssis configuration files from "localhost" to "myservername". I downloaded WinGrep to do this, but it's balking on some of the files, saying that they are binary files.
Does anyone know how to make the *.dtsconfig files NOT binary in SSIS?
Any suggestions GREATLY appreciated.
I won't go into the reason I have my servername in 80 places...

Hi,
Up to now, we're using SSIS variables for storing values such as server name, database or several paths.
All these variables are required when our developers give to us their DTSX packages for to be updated in production scenarios.
And now, we'd like to use xml files but I don't know how to. We've already got xml files for Data Flow, Sql Task and so on..
Thanks indeed for your time,

Hi frnds,
im running the SSIS package " data" in XXXdatabase.
now i have to run the same package in different database and in different server.
so i mentioned all the database config details in sql_server.dtsconfig file.
here i had attached my file :-
<?xml version="1.0"?><DTSConfiguration><DTSConfigurationHeading>
<DTSConfiguration>
<Configuration ConfiguredType="Property" Path="Package.Connections[YYY ].Properties[ConnectionString]" ValueType="String">
<ConfiguredValue>Data Source=YYY;User ID=XXX;Password=XXX;Provider=SQLNCLI.1;Integrated Security=SSPI;Auto Translate=False;</ConfiguredValue>
</Configuration>
</DTSConfiguration>
after i attached the file in package configurations .
i was unable to see the db connection in connection managers.
i tried to attach the .dtsconfig file in (New OLEDB connection manager) but after clicking the test connection " Testconnection failed because of an error in intializing provider.The connectionString property is not intialized"
Please help me in this.
Thnkx in advance.

I was requested to build and move and existing SSIS package from the developers local PC to the Dev server. Both are running SQL 2K5, I built the following command file so SQL Agent can run the import job.
REM *** Run for FileImport
set FileImportLoadData=C:SSISConfigDEVFileImportLoadData.dtsConfig
"C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90DTSBinndtexec" /f "C:SSISConfigFileImportFileImportLoadData.dtsx"
All files are in the proper place but when the jobs runs the following message shows up in the history;

My questions is how do I fix this and is this really and error?

I use an XML configuration file for my SSIS package, and I have "Enable package configurations" checked. When I build the package, however, there is no dtsConfig file in the output (set to in) or the Deployment folder, and the config file is not included in the SSISDeploymentManifest file. There are no build errors or warnings.
This was working fine the last time I worked on this package (~9 months ago), but not now. I have since installed SP2, but can't confirm if the problem is related to a "fix" in SP2.

Hello,
I have setup a package configuration and it ran fine; however, I would like to be able to use the script task to change content of the dtsConfig file. For example, I can get the newServerName using the SQL Task, then how can I assign the newServerName value to the DataSource in the package configuration file? Is this possible?
Thanks,
Andrew

I've deployed my ssis pkg to the server and created a sql job to run this pkg. So far, everything is fine. Today, I got a request to change some variables inside the package which is part of the .dtsconfig. I want to edit the deployed .dtsConfig but it won't allow me and always complained that this file has been opened by another program. I am sure i've closed my ssis designer and other notpad, why can't I edit and save .dtsconfig file?

We are seeing the following error message in our SQL logs and was hoping for some advice.
"Warning: the available page file space has dropped below 4 MB"
To fix the problem we thought we should increase our paging file size for our virtual memory on the server. The recommended allocation was 3083 MB and previously we were using less than the recommended amount so we allocated 7167 MB (the max we were allowed). Do you see any problems with this or have any recommendations?

The publisher could not be verified. Are you sure you want to run this software?This is my first SSIS package and the first for my employer. Under DTS we run some overnight tasks that bin with a .Net console application that downloads data. Several of these run in parallel.
Looked to me that the Execute Process Task was a good fit for the requirements. When I executed the step, the program did begin to execute in that a DOS window opened. But when, I clicked the run button on the warning dialog, the task step ended.
Questions:
1.- How to tell the Execute Process Task not to open the Security Warning dialog?
2.- Have you any suggestions about my approach?
Thanks,
IanO

I have a flat file data source and SQL Server destination data flow. Only a subset of columns from the source are mapped to the destination. During execution SSIS returns DTS pipline warnings for every unmapped source column. Is some kind of transformation the only way to get rid of these warnings?
Also this data flow subsequently returns an error: [SQL Server Destination [1293]] Error: An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80040E14. An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft SQL Native Client" Hresult: 0x80040E14 Description: "Could not bulk load because SSIS file mapping object 'GlobalDTSQLIMPORT ' could not be opened. I'm researching this error, but if anyone is familiar with it your advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Recently migrated 6.5 databases to 7.0 (SP1) in our test envt.
We have problem with one of our db which uses table name "FILE" and
couple of SP's and views references the same table, which is a reserved
word in 7.0. We did change that particular database compatibility level
to 6.5 . Now we are trying to run scripts ( create view, sp ) generated
from sqlserver 6.5 and getting this error 'incorrect syntax near FILE'
If somebody knows what we are doing wrong, please let us know.
Thanks in advance.

I'm looking for monitoring page file usage for SQL Server. Ultimately, I'm trying to prove that there is not a problem with a server and that it is not struggling with the workload, but someone has looked at page file usage and suggested there is a problem.
I've set up performance counters running from a separate server, but the counters relating to page file usage seem wildly inaccurate. E.g., I've got (_Total\% Usage), and (Total)\%Usage Peak), with Total Usage showing a constant value of 64, and the peak showing 92. I've also got Process (sqlservr)Page File Bytes and Page File Bytes Peak, which are showing values like 61,275,688,960 and hardly dropping below this.
If I look at Performance Monitor directly the values shown in here correlate with this, as shown in my first screenshot. However, if I look at resource monitor and look at disk activity, you can see that there is basically nothing going on (screenshot 2).
The server is more than equipped to deal with the workload, and looking at other counters for SQL there is no indication of problems, e.g. page life expectancy has a minimum value showing of 576,258, there is never less than 6GB of free RAM, SQL compilations are at a maximum of 5% of batch requests.
It is a physical server with 2x 8 core multi threaded CPUs, 64GB RAM with 58GB as the SQL server maximum. Hopefully this is enough info, but I'm happy to check anything else.

Hi,
I have encountered an issue with one of my log files which has me somewhat puzzled.
I receieved notification at 00:02:16:36 that the Log file was full:
The log file for database 'TDS' is full. Back up the transaction log for the database to free up some log space..
A large number of these same messages have followed.
Prior to these messages starting the log file was backed up successfully at 00:00:01:10
Shortly after this there is a message - and this is the bit that confuses me - at 00:02:16:35 that says:
d:mssqldata ds_log.ldf: Operating system error 112(error not found) encountered.
So from what I can tell the log file was backed up successfully. Then approx 1 minute later the system can't find the log file???
Then I keep getting these log file full messages - until the next log backup (60 min later)...then everything is fine. HUH?
When looking at the log file for SQL it is sitting there, and isn't new, as it's created date is back when I setup the database initially.
Can anyone shed any light on what this message might mean and whether there is specifically something that I can do to circumvent it in the future.
Oh yeah we have nothing tricky in terms of replication or log shipping or anything like that.....
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
Troy

Hi,
Recently my server harddisk crashed and I Lost a one of the secondary data files of sqlserver database.
I have the main file intact and the recent data was also in that file only, but I was unable to attach the database as it required the other data files also.
Is there any way to create the database again from the existing data file( unfortunately there is no backup also which we can use to recreate the missing data file)
thanks
Anupam
