Incorrect Date In Column For 25,000 Rows

Jan 13, 2006

I have a table with a column in it called Date, which is of the type DateTime, and for the last two years I have been adding data which I found out was incorrect.

My dates are all a day in the future, so I need to reduce each date by one day.

I can easily use a select script to reveal the 25,000 rows which are all incorrect dates. But I can't figure out how to update each and every row to subtract one day from each date.

So where I have:

26/01/2005

I would like to have:

25/01/2005

and of course for every record. Obviously way too many to do manually :-(

Can anyone show me a script that will get what I'm after.

Transact SQL :: How To Select Rows From Table Where DATE Column Is Today's Date

Aug 31, 2015

So my data column [EODPosting].[MatchDate] is defined as a DATE column. I am trying to SELECT from my table where [EODPosting].[MatchDate] is today's date.

SELECT*
FROM[dbo].[EODPosting]
WHERE[EODPosting].[MatchDate]=GETDATE()

Is this not working because GETDATE() is like a timestamp format? How can I get this to work to return those rows where [EODPosting].[MatchDate] is equal to today's date?

Date Picker In Web Browser Shows Incorrect Date Format

Apr 10, 2008

I am using reporting services, when I go to view my report in Report Manager (web browser is IE7), I choose a date from a date picker control, and the date that populates the date field is in US format mm/dd/yyyy, however in my regional settings, although I have English(United States) I have altered my short date format to be dd/mm/yyyy.

Currently my report will display an error saying the date is an invalid format if I pick a date that violates the mm/dd/yyyy format. I want it to display the date format that I have defined in my regional settings, without modifying the 'Language Preference' settings for IE.

The report properties has =User!Language for the 'Language' property.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Alter Column Results In Incorrect Syntax Near 'column'

Oct 29, 2001

I ran this query against the pubs database and it runs successfully

ALTER TABLE publishers ALTER COLUMN state CHAR(25)

I change the table & field names for my db as follows:
ALTER TABLE customquery ALTER COLUMN toclause CHAR(25)

and run against my database and I get the following error - Incorrect syntax near 'COLUMN'.

My column name is correct - I don't know why it would run fine against pubs, but not my db. I do not have quoted identifiers turned on. I have tried using [] around my column name [toclause], but that didn't change anything. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Incorrect Date Conversion - Help Please

Dear GroupSome but not all of the dates are incorrect converted (incremented by 1day) with the following SQL statement.SELECT DISTINCT CONVERT(datetime,cast(ReturnedByDate AS int)) ASReturnedByDate, CONVERT(varchar(10),ReturnedByDate,104) ASLabelReturnedByDate, ReturnedByDate FROM i2b_keytransactionhistoryORDER BY ReturnedByDate ASC'ReturnedByDate' is of type smalldatetime in the table. Incorrect Format Of Date Report Parameters Via Datepicker

May 22, 2007

OK - truck loads of folk have reported this problem - but I cannot solve it - so apologies for repeating the question...

My SQL Server 2005 Report is developed on the same server as it is run.

I have SQL Server 2005 SP2 installed. The report language is set as en-GB.

The browser language setting is en-NZ.

The report previews fine - I pick May 22 from the picker and it appears as 22/05/2007 in the report parameter text box - which since I am in NZ is exactly as I want it.

I deploy the report - If I run it from the report manager virtual directory the date picker performs as above i.e correctly.

I run the deployed report from the report server virtual directory and here is where the problem occurs - selecting May 22 from the date picker produces 05/22/2007 in the report parameter text box and produces the error

"The value provided for the report parameter 'StartScheduledDate' is not valid for its type. (rsReportParameterTypeMismatch)"

thanks for any help here - this problem has made this a ridiculously expensive report!

I've also tried variations of this without the time portion of the ath_postdate field (of type datetime) , but it still seems to be pulling records from 2009, etc.

Matrix Column Subtotal W/incorrect Scope On Some Servers

Oct 1, 2007

This works correctly in the Business Intelligence Dev Studio tool and on one of our servers, but fails on the other two servers. The two servers that do not work are current on their patches.

When a matrix has multiple rows and multiple columns, the highest level column subtotal is in the wrong scope. Say we have three row groups (r1, r2, and r3) and two column groups (c1, c2). All five groups have subtotals enabled. We can check the scope of every cell by setting the expression of our Detail/Value textbox like so:

=IIf(InScope("r1"),"r1, ","") &
IIf(InScope("r2"),"r2, ","") &
IIf(InScope("r3"),"r3, ","") &
IIf(InScope("c1"),"c1, ","") &
IIf(InScope("c2"),"c2, ","")

When run, the lowest level "detail" boxes should be in the scope of all groups: "r1, r2, r3, c1, c2,". The subtotal of r3 is in scope for everything except for itself (r1, r2, c1, c2,), and so on (see "Good server" screenshot).

This is how it should work, and it does work this way in the design tool and our one (development) server. The other two servers (which are, unfortunately, the Test and Production servers) have a problem: the subtotal of c1 (the column running furthest along the right) is ONLY r1. Always. Which results in some ridiculously large subtotals for detail rows.

We've tested this with various combinations of 2 - 5 column groups and 2 - 5 row groups and found no difference; the problem still hits the furthest right column in the exact same way. We've changed everything we can think of, and tried multiple reports built from scratch and using different data sources, but the results are still consistent.

Any ideas, explanations, or suggestions would be much appreciated.

STDEV() On Float Column Returns Incorrect Values

Nov 8, 2007

STDEV() gives incorrect values with reasonable input.

I have a table filled with GPS readings. I've got a column LATITUDE (FLOAT) with about 20,000 records between 35.6369018 and 35.639890. (Same value to the first 5 digits of precision---what can i say, it's a good gps.)

Here's what happens when I ask SQL Server ("9.00.1399.06 (IntelX86)") to compute the standard deviation of the latitude:

// Transact-SQL StdDev function:

SELECT STDEV(LATITUDE) FROM GPSHISTORY
WHERE STATTIME BETWEEN '2007-10-23 11:21:00.859' AND '2007-10-23 17:00:00.062' AND GPSDEVICEID = 0x004A08BC04050000;

0

// Zero. ZERO??!?!!
//Let's re-implement Std Dev from the definition using other aggregate functions:

DECLARE @AVERAGE FLOAT;
SELECT @AVERAGE = AVG(LATITUDE) FROM GPSHISTORY
WHERE GPSDATE BETWEEN '2007-10-23 11:21:00.859' AND '2007-10-23 17:00:00.062' AND GPSDEVICEID = 0x004A08BC04050000;
SELECT SQRT(SUM(SQUARE((LATITUDE - @AVERAGE)))/COUNT(LATITUDE)) FROM GPSHISTORY
WHERE GPSDATE BETWEEN '2007-10-23 11:21:00.859' AND '2007-10-23 17:00:00.062' AND GPSDEVICEID = 0x004A08BC04050000;

6.03401924005392E-06

// That's better. Maybe STDEV is using fixed point arithmetic?!?

SELECT STDEV(10 * LATITUDE)/10 FROM GPSHISTORY
WHERE GPSDATE BETWEEN '2007-10-23 11:21:00.859' AND '2007-10-23 17:00:00.062' AND GPSDEVICEID = 0x004A08BC04050000;

4.77267753808509E-06

SELECT STDEV(100 * LATITUDE)/100 FROM GPSHISTORY
WHERE GPSDATE BETWEEN '2007-10-23 11:21:00.859' AND '2007-10-23 17:00:00.062' AND GPSDEVICEID = 0x004A08BC04050000;

1.66904329068838E-05

SELECT STDEV(1000 * LATITUDE)/1000 FROM GPSHISTORY
WHERE GPSDATE BETWEEN '2007-10-23 11:21:00.859' AND '2007-10-23 17:00:00.062' AND GPSDEVICEID = 0x004A08BC04050000;

8.11904280806654E-06

// The standard deviation should, of course, be linear, e.g.

DECLARE @AVERAGE FLOAT;
SELECT @AVERAGE = AVG(LATITUDE) FROM GPSHISTORY
WHERE GPSDATE BETWEEN '2007-10-23 11:21:00.859' AND '2007-10-23 17:00:00.062' AND GPSDEVICEID = 0x004A08BC04050000;
SELECT SQRT(SUM(SQUARE(100*(LATITUDE - @AVERAGE)))/COUNT(LATITUDE))/100 FROM GPSHISTORY
WHERE GPSDATE BETWEEN '2007-10-23 11:21:00.859' AND '2007-10-23 17:00:00.062' AND GPSDEVICEID = 0x004A08BC04050000;

6.03401924005389E-06

// Std Dev is a numerically stable computation, although it does require traversing the dataset twice.
//
// This calculation is not being done correctly.
//
// Incidently, SQRT(VAR(Latitude....)) gives 4.80354E-4, which is also way off.

I will redefine STDEV to use a stored procedure similar to the above, but the algorithm used to compute VAR, STDEV etc should be reviewed and fixed.

SQL 2012 :: Is Profiler Reads Column Incorrect For Parallel Plans

Aug 19, 2015

Is the SQL Server Profiler Reads Column Incorrect For Parallel Plans?

I often use profiler as one tool to identify bad plans. The reads column gives me a good indication of excessive IO to dig into and correct if necessary. I often use it with Showplan so I can see what a query does, replicate it and fix it.

However I have just lost some faith in it. I am looking at a poorly performing query joining five tables. A parallel plan has been generated and one table is being scanned (in parallel) due to a missing index. This table had in excess of 4 million rows in it. The rest hitd indexes well. However the entire query generates ONLY 12 READS.

Once corrected, a single processor plan is used. This looks really efficient and uses 120 reads. That looks the right figure to me.

Does the profiler only display one thread of a parallel plan perhaps? Or something else?

GUID1 PID1
GUID1 PID1
GUID1 PID1
GUID2 PID1
GUID3 PID2
GUID3 PID2
GUID3 PID2

The result of the query would only have PID1 because it has two unique GUID's. PID2 would not be listed has it has the same GUID3 in each row.

Splitting SQL Server Date/Time Column Into Access Date Column And Access Time Column

Jan 24, 2008

I have an SSIS package that moves data from SQL Server to an legacy Access database. In SQL Server, there is a date/time column that I need to split into a separate date column and time column in the access database. Initially I just created a derrived column for the time and set the expression equal to the source date/time column from SQL Server. Unfortunately, that just makes the date column and time column the same having the full date/time.

What expression can I use during a derrived column transformation to assign just the date to a derrived column and just the time to another derrived column?

Thanks,

Steve

2012-06-01 18:00:00.000
2012-06-01 20:30:00.000

if it is not doable, we can get the nearest record of all missing records like this:

DateInterval
2012-06-01 17:30:00.000
2012-06-01 20:00:00.000

or this:

DateInterval
2012-06-01 18:30:00.000
2012-06-01 21:00:00.000

or this:

DateInterval
2012-06-01 17:30:00.000
2012-06-01 18:30:00.000
2012-06-01 20:00:00.000
2012-06-01 21:00:00.000

How To Substract New Rows From Old Rows In The Same Column?

Mar 7, 2008

Hi I'm having a bit troubble by creating a SQL-sentence which substract the newest row from the second newest row in the same column. The table looks like this:

Pricecalcid Date Price Itemid
2000 2006-12-12 3000 100
2488 2007-10-11 2800 100
3100 2008-08-07 2500 100

What I need is that the largest "Pricecalcid" that is 3100 equals "Price" 2500 and the second largest "Pricecalcid" eqauls 2800 results in a pricecalculation that substracts 2500 from 2800 for "Itemid" 100.

How do I do that?

Thanks

Morten

Putting Date Or Date && Time In A Column Thats Going To Be Heavily Used?

Oct 4, 2007

Hello,

We have a bunch of Audit tables that contain almost exact copies of the operations tables. The audit tables also include:

AuditID - the audit action (insert, modify - old, modify - new, deleted)
AuditDate - date and time of action
AuditUser - User who did it...

At the end of the day I need to know for any given record what it looked like at the beginning of the day and what it looks like at the end of the day. There could have been numerous changes to the record throughout the day, those records I am not interested in. Only the first record and the last record of a give day.

I am going to be doing a lot of MIN(AuditDate) and MAX(AuditDATE) and .. WHERE AuditDate BETWEEN '10/1/2007 00:00:00' AND '10/1/2007 11:59:59' ...

Question: Whats better for performance:

1. Separating out the date and time and doing a clusterd index on the date.

2. Keeping date and time in the same column and just use a normal index.

3. Better ideas?

Thanks,
Bradley
