Increase Number Of Process(thread)
Jul 23, 2005
Hello all,
A software that connects SQL Server via ODBC uses 12 process at the same
time when I look at the process info(panel). Is it possible to increase
number of process (or thread) for a specific database? Is there any
parameter?
Thanks in advance,
Do.

In an SSIS package I am continually getting the same error:
"Transaction (Process ID 58) was deadlocked on thread | communication buffer resources with another process and has been chosen as the deadlock victim. Rerun the transaction.". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly.
The package is attempting to do a simple Execute SQL Task. Since this seems like a database and not integration services issue, does anybody have any thoughts or insight into this error and where to begin troubleshooting?
Thanks,
Adrian

Hello All,
Suddenly, the sql server is down, in the log file, C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLLOGERRORLOG, I found the record as follows,

2007-03-05 15:40:31.59 Logon SQL Server failed with error code 0xc0000000 to spawn a thread to process a new login or connection. Check the SQL Server error log and the Windows event logs for information about possible related problems. [CLIENT: 172.21.123.48]
What else I can do to further investigate?

Hello all,
I have, what i think, is a unique problem that i'm hoping some of you can help me on.
I need to create a record number that is incremented by 1 whenever someone adds a new record to the database. For example, records numbering 1,2,3 are in the database. When the users adds a new record, SQL takes the last recordno, 3 in this case, and adds 1 to it thus producing 4.
Also, i need to have the ability to replace deleted record numbers with new ones. Using the example above, say a user deletes record number 2. Whenever someone adds a new record, sql would see the missing number and assign the new record that number.
I hope i'm making sense here. Does anyone have any ideas about this? Any articles on the web that someone could point me to?
Thanks.
Richard M.

I have the following stored procedure that first inserts a new receiptnumber into a numbercounter table and then uses that number in another insert for a payment. My problem is I'm only getting one new receiptnumber so if there are more than one payment in the second insert it fails because of a constraint on the payment table that will not let the same receiptnumber be used more than once.
I need to Insert a new receiptnumber for each row in the second insert.
How can I do this?
@ReceiptNumber int OUTPUTASBEGININSERT INTO tblNumberCounter (InsertDate)Values (GETDATE())SET @ReceiptNumber=SCOPE_IDENTITY()INSERT INTO tblReceipts (pl_ID,client_ID,PaymentDate,Fund_ID,TenderTypeID,AmountPaid,ReceiptNumber,DateEntered,EnteredBy) SELECT PL.Pl_ID, RS.client_id, PL.pmtDate, RS.rec_fund_id, RS.rec_tendertypeid, RS.rec_amount, @ReceiptNumber, RS.DateEntered, RS.EnteredByFROM tblRec_setup AS RS INNER JOIN tblPayments AS PL ON RS.rec_id = PL.rec_id Sub Post() Dim cmdInsert1 As SqlCommand Dim tr As SqlTransaction = Nothing Dim ConnectStr As String = _ ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("2ConnectionString").ConnectionString Dim conn As New SqlConnection(ConnectStr) cmdInsert1 = New SqlCommand cmdInsert1.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure cmdInsert1.CommandText = "BatchMonthly" 'Get a new receipt number and add it. Dim InsertedIntegerRN As New SqlParameter("@ReceiptNumber", SqlDbType.Int) InsertedIntegerRN.Direction = ParameterDirection.Output cmdInsert1.Parameters.Add(InsertedIntegerRN) Try conn.Open() tr = conn.BeginTransaction() cmdInsert1.Transaction = tr cmdInsert1.Connection = conn cmdInsert1.ExecuteScalar() tr.Commit() Catch objException As SqlException tr.Rollback() Dim ex As SqlError Response.Write(ex.Message) Finally conn.Close() End TryEnd Sub
So I thought I would add, What I'm doing here is this:
I insert a new receiptnumber into the tblNumberCounter table.
Then I use that number in the first row found based on the second Insert.
Then it needs to get another new receiptnumber for the next row of the second insert.
Anyway, I appeciate any help.

Hi,
I was trying to extract data from the source server using OLEDB Source and SQL Server Destination when i encountered this error:
"Transaction (Process ID 135) was deadlocked on lock resources with another process and has been chosen as the deadlock victim. Rerun the transaction.".
What must be done so that even if the table being queried is locked, i wouldn't experience any deadlock?

Hello all,
I am running into an interesting scenario on my desktop. I'm running developer edition on Windows XP Professional (9.00.3042.00 SP2 Developer Edition). OS is autopatched via corporate policy and I saw some patches go in last week. This machine is also a hand-me-down so I don't have a clean install of the databases on the machine but I am local admin.
So, starting last week after a forced remote reboot (also a policy) I noticed a few of the databases didn't start back up. I chalked it up to the hard shutdown and went along my merry way. Friday however I know I shut my machine down nicely and this morning when I booted up, I was in the same state I was last Wenesday. 7 of the 18 databases on my machine came up with
FCB:pen: Operating system error 32(The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.) occurred while creating or opening file 'C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLDataTest.mdf'. Diagnose and correct the operating system error, and retry the operation.
and it also logs
FCB:pen failed: Could not open file C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLDataTest.mdf for file number 1. OS error: 32(The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.).
I've caught references to the auto close feature being a possible culprit, no dice as the databases in question are set to False. Recovery mode varies on the databases from Simple to Full. If I cycle the SQL Server service, whatever transient issue it was having with those files is gone.
As much as I'd love to disable the virus scanner, network security would not be amused. The data and log files appear to have the same permissions as unaffected database files. Nothing's set to read only or archive as I've caught on other forums as possible gremlins. I have sufficient disk space and the databases are set for unrestricted growth.
Any thoughts on what I could look at? If it was everything coming up in RECOVERY_PENDING it's make more sense to me than a hit or miss type of thing I'm experiencing now.

Dear list
Im designing a package that uses Microsofts preplog.exe to prepare web log files to be imported into SQL Server
What Im trying to do is convert this cmd that works into an execute process task
D:SSIS ProcessPrepweblogProcessLoad>preplog ex.log > out.log
the above dos cmd works 100%
However when I use the Execute Process Task I get this error
[Execute Process Task] Error: In Executing "D:SSIS ProcessPrepweblogProcessLoadpreplog.exe" "" at "D:SSIS ProcessPrepweblogProcessLoad", The process exit code was "-1" while the expected was "0".
There are two package varaibles
User::gsPreplogInput = ex.log
User::gsPreplogOutput = out.log
Here are the task properties
RequireFullFileName = True
Executable = D:SSIS ProcessPrepweblogProcessLoadpreplog.exe
Arguments =
WorkingDirectory = D:SSIS ProcessPrepweblogProcessLoad
StandardInputVariable = User::gsPreplogInput
StandardOutputVariable = User::gsPreplogOutput
StandardErrorVariable =
FailTaskIfReturnCodeIsNotSuccessValue = True
SuccessValue = 0
TimeOut = 0

How do I use the execute process task? I am trying to unzip the file using the freeware PZUnzip.exe and I tried to place the entire command in a batch file and specified the working directory as the location of the batch file, but the task fails with the error:
SSIS package "IngramWeeklyPOS.dtsx" starting.
Error: 0xC0029151 at Unzip download file, Execute Process Task: In Executing "C:ETLPOSDataIngramWeeklyUnzip.bat" "" at "C:ETLPOSDataIngramWeekly", The process exit code was "1" while the expected was "0".
Task failed: Unzip download file
SSIS package "IngramWeeklyPOS.dtsx" finished: Success.
Then I tried to specify the exe directly in the Executable property and the agruments as the location of the zip file and the directory to unzip the files in, but this time it fails with the following message:
SSIS package "IngramWeeklyPOS.dtsx" starting.
Error: 0xC002F304 at Unzip download file, Execute Process Task: An error occurred with the following error message: "%1 is not a valid Win32 application".
Task failed: Unzip download file
SSIS package "IngramWeeklyPOS.dtsx" finished: Success.
The command in the batch file when run from the command line works perfectly and unzips the file, so there is absolutely no problem with the command, I believe it is just the set up of the variables on the execute process task editor under Process. Any input on resolving this will be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Monisha

I am designing a utility which will keep two similar databases in sync. In other words, copying the new data from db1 to db2 and updating the old data from db1 to db2.
For this I am making use of the 'Tablediff' utility which when provided with server name, database, table info will generate .sql file which can be used to keep the target table in sync with the source table.
I am using the Execute Process Task and the process parameters I am providing are:
WorkingDirectory : C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft SQL Server90COM
Executable : C:SQL_bat_FilesSQL5TC_CTIcustomer.bat
The customer.bat file will have the following code:
tablediff -sourceserver "LV-SQL5" -sourcedatabase "TC_CTI" -sourcetable "CUSTOMER_1" -destinationserver "LV-SQL2" -destinationdatabase "TC_CTI" -destinationtable "CUSTOMER" -f "c:SQL_bat_Filessql5TC_CTIsql_filescustomer1"
the .sql file will be generated at: C:SQL_bat_Filessql5TC_CTIsql_filescustomer1.
The Problem:
The Execute Process Task is working fine, ie., the tables are being compared correctly and the .SQL file is being generated as desired. But the task as such is reporting faliure with the following error :
[Execute Process Task] Error: In Executing "C:SQL_bat_FilesSQL5TC_CTIpackage_occurrence.bat" "" at "C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft SQL Server90COM", The process exit code was "2" while the expected was "0". ]
Some of you may suggest to just set the ForceExecutionResult = Success (infact this is what I am doing now just to get the program working), but, this is not what I desire.
Can anyone help ?

I'm pulling data from Oracle db and load into MS-SQL 2008.For my data type checks during the data load process, what are options to ensure that the data being processed wouldn't fail. such that I can verify first in-hand with the target type of data and then if its valid format load it into destination table else mark it with error flag and push into errors table... All this at the row level.One way I can think of is to load into a staging table then get the source & destination table -column data types, compare them and proceed.
should I just try loading the data directly and if it fails try trouble shooting(which could be a difficult task as I wouldn't know what caused error...)

Hi Folks,
I am having this table locking issue that I need to start paying attention to as its getting more frequent.
The problem is that the data in the tables is live finance data that needs to be changed and viewed almost real time so what I have picked up so far is that using 'table Hints' may not be a good idea.
I have a guy at work telling me that introducing a data access layer is the only way to solve this, I am not convinced but havnt enough knowledge to back my own feeling up. (asp system not .net).
Thanks in advance

I'm trying to upload the ASPNETDB.MDF file to a hosting server via FTP, and everytime when it was uploaded half way(40% or 50%)
I would get an error message saying:
"550 ASPNETDB.MDF: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process"
and then the upload failed.
I'm using SQL Express. Does anybody know what's the cause?
Thanks a lot

How can I prevent this from happening? This happens every time I want to start the package and
every time the process id is different. Here it is 3880.

Hi Everyone,
The sqlserv.exe takes too much CPU utilization on my SQL 2000 on W2K production machine. I am tring to use System Monitor to monitor the Thread/%process time with all Sqlservr instances, and then match the sqlservr instance number to the KPID in sysprocesses table to find out which user is causing the problem. but I can only see the instance number from Sqlservr0 to sqlservr99. From the table sysprocesses table, the KPID is all 3 or 4 digits number. Any one has any idea about this?
Thanks in Advance.

Hi experts
I have a doubt!
I have identified that one of the instance is taking much more CPU than the other by using the counter process\% processor time in perfmon. So we have decided to monitor only that instance using ID Thread counter to see which process is causing this high usage within this instance.
Now problem... Thread ID is re-used by Windows. We cannot identify which counter is the one causing problem at that point of time just using the ID from a report given to me NEXT DAY because I can never dream of monitoring the server in the real time to see what is the process Thread ID NOW.
Now question.. Is there is any counter that says which process caused the spike in %CPU used at one point of time from the thread id comparing against another counter in perfmon?
I have never worked with this in detail before. If any one can give me the counters and the method to identify which process is related to which thread at that point of time from a report received NEXT DAY MORNING, thanks a lot.
another thanks in advance

Hello,
I have built a system, that uses a .dll file for all SQL operations. So a program looks something like this:
using myDLL;
....
SQLDBCON mSQL = new SQLDBCON();
and here comes the rest of the program.
My question is, the dll file has all stored procedures and when you declare mSQL as shown above, then it opens a thread to the database for that user.
Is that thread properly closed when the site has finished loading?
in my .aspx page i dont have a function like mSQL.CloseDB();
and if i try to add something like this to the dll file
~SQLDBCON {
m_local_con.Close();m_local_con.dispose();
}
i get a error message says something that this is not allowed.
Just want to know if my thread in the dll file is properly closed?

Hi all,
I am having problem with SQL connection at Godaddy where my pool connection gets MAX OUT. When it happens, I cannot access the database.This is the thread about the problem: http://forums.asp.net/thread/1665023.aspx
I just created this with "THREAD". I hope someone who has experiences with thread can give me some advice about my design. This is my first time.
static object Locked = new object();
public object ExecuteCommand(string queryStr, string type){ //*************************************************************************************// // ExecuteCommand: Returns an object // //*************************************************************************************// Thread t = null; lock(Locked) { SQLString = queryStr; switch(type) { case "ExecuteNonQuery": t = new Thread(ExecuteNonQuery); break; case "ExecuteScalar": t = new Thread(ExecuteScalar); break; case "GetDataReader": t = new Thread(GetDataReader); break; } t.Start(); t.Join(); } return null;}
First of, does this work at all? It runs, but is it a good design in term of Thread? Since I use LOCK, do I still need the t.Join() function? The switch with the three cases, is that OKAY? Basically, I'm clueless. If you read my other post, you will get an idea what I'm trying to do. Any feedback would be very very appreciated.
Thank you.

I am currently using @@Identity to retreive the Identity value for the PK field in a table that I am inserting data into. Essentially, my code looks like this:SqlCommand cmd=new SqlCommand("Insert into table(... ;Select @@Identity from table",conn);string identity=cmd.ExecuteScalar();Testing this myself, it works fine, but I am worried as to how thread safe this is in a real-world environment? (i.e. with multiple users clicking at it). Is there a guaranteed way to make this thread safe- wrap it in a transaction maybe?

I'm making a "simple" ASP forum to integrate into a webpage solution. I just recently ran into a problem with sorting threads.
I have a page that displays all threads in a given forum (Threads.ThreadForumID=iForumID) this page will have all pinned threads on top of the list the threads should then be sorted according to when a message last was posted inside the thread (Posts.PostDate)
Sort order:
Threads.ThreadPinned
Posts.PostDate or Posts.LastPostDate if it has been set.
The tables are as follows:
Threads table:
ThreadIDNumber
ThreadNameText
ThreadViewCountNumber
ThreadOwnerIDNumber(Ref to thread owner id, user)
ThreadLockedBoolean
ThreadPinnedBoolean
ThreadForumIDNumber(Ref to ForumID, forum)
Posts table:
PostIDNumber
PostTextText
PostOwnerIDNumber(Ref to post owner, user)
PostLastEditByNumber(Ref to last user that edited, user)
PostThreadIDNumber(Ref to thread)
PostIPText
PostNicknameText
PostDateDate
PostLastEditDateDate
Current "sort":
This is the current SQL statement it is not in any way correct. It's just temporary. I have tried different joins but I can't seem to get it right!
SELECT ThreadID
FROM Threads
WHERE ThreadForumID=" & iForumID & "
ORDER BY ThreadPinned DESC, ThreadID DESC
Could someone please give me a hand here?

Hello,
I am having a problem with the SQL Server 2005 database of our ERP system. We have a scheduled batch that gets stuck because of a lock on a table. The lock remains overnight and halts all other processes (it seems most of them are waiting for this lock to get solved)
I know which table the lock is on and if I kill the lock manually, the batch continues and finishes without a problem
my question is: can I change this behaviour somewhere?
The piece of code that causes this lock is protected, but in a debug log I was able to see that it happens during following actions:
first a select is performed to fetch a certain record in the file that gets locked
next an update is performed with following syntax:
update ... set.... where current of 'pointername'
this update is waiting for a lock to be released before the batch continues.
My guess is that somehow the pointer that is set with the select statements, locks the row and that's why the update cannot be performed.
The strange part is that this lock does NOT occur everytime that this table needs to be updated. And that's why I am stuck and asking help of the real database people :)
If someone can give me a hint on a setup,property, or just a pointer to where I can find more info on the 'why'-part of the lock, I would be very grateful
database is SQL Server 2005 SP1 on win2k3

Newbie question, but is there a way for me to set up a thread in my c# code so as it sleeps until it gets woken up by an event fired by an activation SP?
As in queue sits idle, thread sleeps.
Queue receives a message, activation SP gets fired, activation SP raises an event which gets caught by event handler in code, which wakes up thread to do processing?

When a query is executed, the tab is split horizontally with the bottom half containing two tabs. The first with the result set(s) and the second with the messages.
How do I hide the bottom half after I have read it and now want the entire column to view my TSQL? Is there some menu item or shortcut key that I can use to accomplish this?
In 2000, there is a configuration option to make these tabs appear at the top of the window. I haven't found this setting in Express.
Another nice feature that I appreciate is to be able to divide the window into independant horizontal or vertical windows (or tabs) each with different files. I have found that I can get there with a mouse click but I could use some guidence in restoring the original layout, expecially without closing the windows.
Thanks,
