Index Names Starting With "_WA_Sys_"

Feb 3, 2000

After converting from SQL Server 6.5 to 7.0, there exist a number of indices in sysindexes with names starting with _WA_Sys_, e.g. _WA_Sys_PGJ_GROUP_JOB_ID_3EA749C6. When a Complete Compare is executed in ERwin, these indices are reported as variances to the data model. When a DROP INDEX statement is executed, SQL Server complains that the index isn't in the system catalog. The following is an example:

DROP INDEX ASSIGNED_INSERTER_SETUP._WA_Sys_PGJ_GROUP_JOB_ID_3 EA749C6
Cannot drop the index 'ASSIGNED_INSERTER_SETUP._WA_Sys_PGJ_GROUP_JOB_ID_ 3EA749C6', because it does not exist in the system catalog.
General SQL Server error: Check messages from the SQL Server.
Execution Failed!

How do we drop these indices? Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Regards, Peter

The String Was Not Recognized As A Valid DateTime. There Is A Unknown Word Starting At Index 0.

May 2, 2008

Hi,

I got this error report "The string was not recognized as a valid DateTime. There is a unknown word starting at index 0." at this line of code in BOLD.

For some reasons the datetime format in the database has the (US datetime format - 05/02/2008 06:40 instead of United Kingdom (UK date time format - 02/05/2008 06:40), as I had planned. I have tried to reformat the database and VB date format and all to no success.Could this be the root of my problems?

_WA_Sys_ ...

Aug 22, 2001

Hello Listers !

I ran the sp_helpindex for a particular table on a CRM db and it returned with a list of 63 indexes, most of which had an index name beginning with _WA_Sys .. followed by what looked like a system generated name.

But when I open the design table in the EM and bring up a list of indexes, I don't find any of the indexes which begin with _WA_Sys .. listed.

I am running SQL 7, sp 2 on NT4, sp 6.

Any light on the anamoly ? Are they some temp indexes created by SQL 7 ?

TIA for any help

Vijay

_WA_Sys_. . . Indexes

Nov 5, 1999

Questions:

We use the product DB Artisan for many of our dba tasks. When we use DB Artisan to migrate tables from unit test to system test, for example, the _WA_Sys... indexes are changed from indexes that do not appear on the DB Artisan list of indexes (in the source database) to ones that do appear in the DB Artisan list of indexes (in the target database).

1) I'm trying to find out if this subtle change in status for the statistics indexes harms their functioning for statistics use.

2) Also, does this subtle change in status for the indexes lead to performance problems such as increased response time.

3) Should we delete the _WA_Sys_ indexes in the target database and let the system create its own there?

Background:

With SQL-Server 7.0, certain indexes are automatically created. They have names that start with _WA_Sys_. They are used by SQL-Server 7.0 for statistics that SQL-Server uses for its decision making.

One place to find out more about these automatically created statistical 'indexes' is in SQL Server Books Online, part of the SQL-Server 7.0 package. Use the 'search' method and search for 'statistical information'. The first entry returned gives some information about the indexes that appear when the database option 'auto create statistics' is set to true.

Bad Index Names

Mar 29, 2001

I have inherited a database which had no clustered indexes at all, only non-clustered. WHen I started experimenting with creating some I got error messages back complaining that the name already existed in sysobjects. I have come to find out they tool they use to create the indexes, names the index the same as exisiting table(isn't this a great idea). Other than my current problem, does anyone see other issues might run into. My thought is to drop all the indexes with the table names and recreate them with a better standard. Has anyone else ever run into or done this?
THanks

Integration Services :: Chinese Names Export To CSV - Garbled Names

Aug 11, 2015

As part if a recent requirement I have to export Chinese/Singaporean names in a CSV file. The data in the tables is a NVARCHAR(256).

I am using a FlatFile Connection manager where all the present columns from the table are exported as NVARCHARs. My understanding was that the Chinese/Singaporean names would blend seamlessly with NVARCHARs in place. But, they get garbled when pushed to the CSV.

Here is the connection manager setup

There are a lot of suggestions of fixing this by copying/pasting to a notepad file and changing the formatting... But I cant do that since the file is generated using a schedules SSIS package. How can I tweak the process to fix the issue?

DB Mirroring: Different Server Names With Same Instance Names

Jan 31, 2008

I'm going to be setting up DB mirroring between two SQL Server 2005 boxes. Since these are on two different servers, can the instance names be the same? Is there any reason NOT to do so if the mirror server is going to be used exclusively for DB mirroring?

For example: if the my primary DB is located on SERVER1INSTANCE1, can the mirror be SERVER2INSTANCE1 or do the instance names have to be different even though they're on different boxes.

Server Names Or Instance Names

Aug 3, 2006

Hello there. I'm trying to populate a drop down box with a list of all available instances of SQL server (express or not) available on a network. To list all instances I'm using EnumAvailableServers() in SmoApplication.

The issue is that the Instance column in the returned data table is always empty, and both the Name and the Server columns contain the same string -- the name of the computer the SQL server is installed. Locally I have SSE installed, the instance name is <computer_name>SQLEXPRESS, however, using Smo I can't seem to get to the either full instance name or just the instance name. I can't assume SQLEXPRESS, since there may be more than one installed.

Alternately I used EnumRegisteredServers() in SmoApplication.SqlServerRegistrations and that, while returning instance information (can be retrieved from the RegisteredServer in the returned collection), doesn't always return the remote SQL servers in the list.

Any idea how can this be done? Maybe I'm going at it the wrong way, maybe there's another class / method I need to use to retrieve all instances?

Thank you

SQL 2012 :: Full Text Index How To Make It NOT To Index Embedded Or Attached Documents

Sep 30, 2015

I am using Full Text Index to index emails stored in BLOB column in a table. Index process parses stored emails, and, if there is one or more files attached to the email these documents get indexed too. In result when I'm querying the full text index for a word or phrase I am getting reference to the email containing the word of phrase if interest if the word was used in the email body OR if it was used in any document attached to the email.

How to distinguish in a Full Text query that the result came from an embedded document rather than from "main" document? Or if that's not possible how to disable indexing of embedded documents?

My goal is either to give a user an option if he or she wants to search emails (email bodies only) OR emails AND documents attached to them, or at least clearly indicate in the returned result the real source where the word or phrase has been found.

Clustered Index On Client_ID+ORderNO+OrdersubNo, If I Create 3 Noncluster Index On Said Column Will It Imporve Performance

Dec 5, 2007

Dear All.

We had Teradata 4700 SMP. We have moved data from TD to MS_SQL SERVER 2003. records are 19.65 Millions.

table is >> Order_Dtl

Columns are:-

Client_ID varchar 10
Order_ID varchar 50
Order_Sub_ID decimal
.....
...
..
.
Pk is (ClientID+OrderId+OrderSubID)

Web Base application or PDA devices use to initiate the order from all over the country. The issue is this table is not Partioned but good HP with 30 GB RAM is installed. this is main table that receive 18,0000 hits or more. All brokers and users are using this table to see the status of their order.

The always search by OrderID, or ClientID or order_SubNo, or enter any two like (Client_ID+Order_Sub_ID) or any combination.

Query takes to much time when ever server receive more querys. some orther indexes are also created on the same table like (OrderDate, OrdCreate Date and Status)

My Question are:-

Q1. IF Person "A" query to DB on Client_ID, then what Index will use ? (If any one do Query on any two combination like Client_ID+Order_ID, So what index will be uesd.? How does MS-SQL SERVER deal with these kind of issues.?

Q2. If i create 3 more indexes on ClientID, ORderID and OrdersubID. will this improve the performance of query.if person "A" search record on orderNo so what index will be used. (Mind it their would be 3 seprate indexes for Each PK columns) and composite-Clustered index is also available.?

Q3. I want to check what indexes has been used? on what search?

Q4. How can i check what table was populated when, or last date of update (DML)?

My Limitation is i Dont Create a Partioned table. I dont have permission to do it.

In Teradata we had more than 4 tb record of CRM data with no issue. i am not new baby in db line but not expert in sql server 2003.

I am thank u to all who read or reply.

The merge process could not retrieve generation information at the 'Subscriber'.
The index entry for row ID was not found in index ID 3, of table 357576312, in database 'PBB006'.

All DBCC CHECKDB command's return 0 errors
I'm not sure if the table that's referred to in the message is on the distribution side or the subscribers side? A select * from sysobjects where id=357576312 gives different results on both sides . .

Any ideas as to what is causing this error?

Advantages Of Using Nonclustered Index After Using Clustered Index On One Table

Jul 3, 2006

Hi everyone,
When we create a clustered index firstly, and then is it advantageous to create another index which is nonclustered ??
In my opinion, yes it is. Because, since we use clustered index first, our rows are sorted and so while using nonclustered index on this data file, finding adress of the record on this sorted data is really easier than finding adress of the record on unsorted data, is not it ??

SQL 2012 :: Clustered Index Key Order In NC Index

Mar 5, 2015

I have a clustered index that consists of 3 int columns in this order: DateKey, LocationKey, ItemKey (there are many other columns in this data warehouse table such as quantities, prices, etc.).

Now I want to add a non-clustered index on just one of the other columns, say LocationKey, like this:
CREATE INDEX IX_test on TableName (LocationKey)

I understand that the clustered index keys will also be added as key columns to any NC indexes. So, in this case the NC index will also get the other two columns from the clustered index added as key columns. But, in what order will they be added?

Will the resulting index keys on this new NC index effectively be:

LocationKey, DateKey, ItemKey
OR
LocationKey, ItemKey, DateKey

Do the clustering keys get added to a NC index in the same order as they are defined in the clustered index?

Clustered Index Vs. Full Text Index

Jun 18, 2008

Quick question about the primary purpose of Full Text Index vs. Clustered Index.

The Full Text Index has the purpose of being accessible outside of the database so users can query the tables and columns it needs while being linked to other databases and tables within the SQL Server instance.
Is the Full Text Index similar to the global variable in programming where the scope lies outside of the tables and database itself?

I understand the clustered index is created for each table and most likely accessed within the user schema who have access to the database.

Is this correct?

I am kind of confused on why you would use full text index as opposed to clustered index.

Thank you

Index/performance Index For SELECT.... IN Statement

Sep 10, 2007

Hi All,

I 'm working to improve some sql performance.

One of the major syntax inside the SELECT statment is ..

WHERE FIELDA IN (SELECT PARAVALUE FROM PARATABLE WHERE SESSIONID = "XXXXX" AND PARATYPE='A') AND
WHERE FIELDB IN (SELECT PARAVALUE FROM PARATABLE WHERE SESSIONID = "XXXXX" AND PARATYPE='B') AND
WHERE FIELDC IN (SELECT PARAVALUE FROM PARATABLE WHERE SESSIONID = "XXXXX" AND PARATYPE='C') AND
WHERE FIELDD IN (SELECT PARAVALUE FROM PARATABLE WHERE SESSIONID = "XXXXX" AND PARATYPE='D') AND
WHERE FIELDE IN (SELECT PARAVALUE FROM PARATABLE WHERE SESSIONID = "XXXXX" AND PARATYPE='E') AND
WHERE FIELDF IN (SELECT PARAVALUE FROM PARATABLE WHERE SESSIONID = "XXXXX" AND PARATYPE='F')

(It's to compare the field content with some user input parameter inside a parameter table... )

I think properly is that the SELECT ... IN is causing much slowness in the sql statement. I have indexed FIELDA , FIELDB, FILEDC etc and those PARAVALUE and PARATYPE in the PARATABLE table. But perfromance is still slow and execution takes >20 seconds for 200000 rows of records.

Do any one know if still any chance to improvide the performance like this?

Much Thanks,

Andy

UDF Starting With Fn_...

Jul 20, 2005

I've read frequently how stored procedures we create shouldn't be named withsp_ since SQL Server will first check the master db before the current dbwhen trying to find the sp to execute. I always nodded and thought how Iwas glad I hadn't done that. For some reason it never clicked that UDFbehavior could be the same.I have several UDFs that start fn_... When I reference a UDF as dbo.fn_...does SQL Server check the master db for these and only upon not finding themcheck the current db? If so, is there a performance hit for this?TIA,John
