Indexing Crashes And Shuts Down SQL Server

Hello. I have a problem with regards to MS SQL Server 7.
I was creating an index on a 7 million row table and I executed the following TSQL command.
create index idx_accno on ccaccount(accno)
go
After 1 minute the following error was displayed and SQL Server was shut down automatically.
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][Named Pipes]ConnectionCheckForData (PeekNamedPipe()).
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][Named Pipes]Connection broken.
Connection Broken
All the relevant settings on the server (server connections) seems to be ok. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hello!
Twice our sql server has shut down by it self. The error log did not say
anything special the first time. This second time it had run out of locks and
after that it just shut down.
Any suggestions what it can depend on? Any suggestion except reinstall?

A web application ran a query based on the selection by the end user-> dynamically generated query with IN clause including + 32000 values

We are network admins at a college, with no database experience at all. We use an Altiris product which uses SQL to maintain a database. Our database is OK, but the transaction log has grown to 24 Gb and has caused a slowdown. When we try to back up the database in preparation for shrinking it to the recommended 100 Mb, the server seems to start the backup but crashes (restarts) after a few minutes. Has the situation got out of hand i.e. with files so big, is our server never going to be able to work with it? Or are we missing something obvious?
Any information on resolving the situation gratefully received, thanks in advance.

I am using the DTS wizard to import tables from an AS/400. Some of the tables in the job are quite large and Sql Server either hangs up or completely crashes. My current configuration is WIN NT, SP4.0 SQL Server 7.0 no Service pack. Any suggestions?

Every time I do a full backup of my databases, it will go through most of them, then get to the largest database I have (13 Gig) which is the Sharepoint database, and as it starts to back it up, the machine will then freeze up and need to be hard rebooted. I confirmed it was the backup by moving the backup to a different time, which is when the server crashed. Also, if I manually attempt to do a full backup on it, the machine will then crash.
I'm running Windows Server 2003, SP2, fully patched, SQL server 2005 SP2 (32-bit) fully patched. 4 Gigs memory. Have tried setting it to use 3 Gig itself, with and without AWE, but it didn't make a difference. This machine is a dedicated SQL Server machine. Microsoft has had us run perfmon and send them perfmon reports and dumps. They don't see anything that would cause our issues. Nothing shows up in the event viewer. This server has been running just fine since last June when we installed SQL 2005. The problems started occurring on March 8 of this year. I don't see any patches that correspond to that date.
Hardware is all reporting fine according to the Gateway Hardware tool.
I'm the Sharepoint Admin, we have no SQL Admin, so now this is another job of mine. So any advice, anything I should look for, would be extremely helpful.

Has anyone ever not been able to stop a server side trace?
When I try, SQL Service shuts down. No errors are logged. I just get a general network error - connection broken.

Running SQL Server 2005 on Windows Server 2003 Box.
When I run a report using SQL Server Reporting Services from the \server
eports page, it previews fine. However on multiple pc's when you click the print button, the print dialog comes up allows you to select a printer and when you click ok a printing dialog flashes and it reboots the client pc. The report never prints.
Any Ideas?

I ran a DBCC SHOWCONTIG on a large database. Because the execution was taking longer than I wanted I cancelled and then killed the process running the DBCC. This action seems to have abnormally ended SQLServer and subsequently crashed the entire NT server. Have you experienced any behavior similar to this when using DBCC and/or killed processes?

I am experiencing an issue with the MSSQLSERVER shutting down automically at 6:00 every 3 days. I do have 2 jobs that run at this time, but they run everyday. We did not install anything additional on the server and we are running SP3a. This just started on April 15, 2006. The Windows Event log displays the following message:
4/21/20066:00:08 PMMSSQLSERVERError(2)17052N/A<server name>The MSSQLSERVER service terminated unexpectedly.
The service stops and does not restart. It required me to restart the service manually.
Any help would be appreciated.

When I try to manually run one of my scheduled job, DR. Watson comes up and SQL Server crashes. the following error message is received in the NT event log. "Unable to read local Event log, reason the data area passed to a system call is too small". I am new to SQL and this is causing me some degree of stress!!!! Also please recommend a good book for a newbie like me.

I have an application that manage an sql srever compact edition database it worked OK until I got the following problem:
Only when debuging the application ("Start Debugging" from visual studio). In the first call to an sql server routine I get an exception "Unspecified error [ sqlceqp30.dll ]"
My code:

Hi all, i am getting these type of errors in the managment tool where i try to look a stored p. or see the schema list or listing tables in a database.
THe errors looks like this one below but it does change in the InvalidArgument=Value of '***' *** area it gets numbers 448 1 5 or something else and after the error management studio doesnt work correctly, in the summory window nothing shows up, .

I'm trying to use a udt in a table creation, and everything works as expected, right until the moment where I rightclick on [Indexes] to create a new index.
Then I get this error:

This is the script I use to create the table:

Hi,
The other day we tried online re-indexing feature of SQL 2005 and its performing faster than offline re-indexing. Could you please validate if its supposed to do be this way? I always thought offline should be faster than online.

I use Microsof Visual Studio 2005 to write a c# aplication for my compact device (Dell Axim).
I also use Sql Server Compact Edition to handle my database.
Everything worked OK but suddenly I get an exception on the first call to fill command of a table in my database (Any table) This exception is happenning only when I debug the application if i run the application without debug everything is workink OK.

I tried to run the application from the mobile device in order to connect to it doing "Attch to running process" from visual studio.
But just running the application on the device with the resgistry value:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoft.NETCompactFrameworkManaged DebuggerAttachEnabled
set to 1 caused the crash when I set it back to 0 everything works fine.
It worked for me before I do not know what happened.
Is it a security problem ?
Can any one helpi me with this because this problem do not give me a way to debug my application.

Hi,
I just developed a ASP.NET website with SQL Server 2005 as database. I am having connection crash problem when multiple user click on same link to fetch data from the database. If users click on different links or there is few seconds of time gap between the data access, then it works fine. But the connections crash problem only occurs when 2 or more users click same link at same time.
I am using the following kind of Datalayers to access the data from database:

I have a sql server ce db file that I use in my pocket pc application. It seems to be working until I try to edit my .sdf file in SQL Server (2005) Managment Studio. After this I cannot open modified file in my application.
I receive native exception error when I call Open method for Connection object:

ExceptionAddress: 0x03f8aaac
Reading: 0x00000010
When I edit .sdf file in another pc it's all working.
My config is:

While waiting for the fax of instructions to contact MS Support, I thought I would post here (tried several times and no fax...)
We get this message in the log file and then all hell breaks loose until it resets memory. The SQL Service continues working but nobody can connect for about 5 minutes and then is seems to reset itself. This has happened three times over the past two weeks. Only one time it did create the SQLDUMP files but all three occurences have practically the same entries.
We are running SQL Server 2005 x64 SP2 under Windows 2003 x64 SP1. We have 4GB RAM and SQL is configured to use 2GB of it. We have a large number of databases (about 400) on this one instance that experiences this problem. The server itself is not under a tremendous load. All of the databases were recently upgraded from SQL 2000 SP4 32 bit instance. The first occurence happened just days after the migration.

Hi,
I just developed a ASP.NET website with SQL Server 2005 as database. I am having connection crash problem when multiple user click on same link to fetch data from the database. If users click on different links or there is few seconds of time gap between the data access, then it works fine. But the connections crash problem only occurs when 2 or more users click same link at same time.
I am using the following kind of Datalayers to access the data from database:

Hello,
I have an intranet environment consists of two servers:
- An application server windows 2003 server with 64-bit server Sharepoint 2007 SP1 (Standard version for search)
- A database server windows 2003 server with 64-bit SQL Server 2005 SP2 64-bit (Standard - 9.0.3054)
It happens regularly that the database server crash (frozen black screen) while the application server indexes (crawl) the content of the intranet site based on sharepoint. There is no alert / error in the observer of events, nor in the sql logs.
The crash is uncertain: dice once all goes well, soon after that crash. When i set the parameter search service (service management research), I can define a regulatory impact of the robot to change the number of documents at the same time : "Request 2 documents at the same time, the crash is more rare, "ask 64 documents at a time, the crash is more common.
My Intranet under sharepoint is composed of a collection site with a dozen sub-sites. There are 3 large library of PDF document. All done in the 4 go in terms of volume.
My problem for about 3-4 months. (Maybe more. Before, indexing was not yet in place).

I'm looking for troubleshooting tips to enable fulltext indexing of PDFs in SQL Server 2000. Here are my steps so far:
added a column (PDFindexBlob) with data type 'image'
added a column (BlobType) to indicate the file extension (pdf) so that the installed Adobe iFilter (v6.0) gets invoked
made sure that the fulltext catalog (CHF) includes the relevant table
ran sp_fulltext_column to add the column PDFindexBlob to the catalog, and to indicate the corresponding document-type column (BlobType, varchar(4))
loaded a PDF (via ASP) into PDFindexBlob and set BlobType = 'pdf'
rebuilt and repopulated the catalog
queried the table using CONTAINS() for several words I know to be searchable text in the PDF
No Joy. I'm aware of the single-threading issue, but the registry hack isn't doable because it's a shared host. Anyway the MS Knowledge Base article indicates that the Service Pack 3 update should have fixed that issue.
Suggestions from successful PDF indexers are most welcome!

I am using the full text indexing feature of SQL Server .
I have indexed two text fields in the Content table and two other text fields in the ContentDetail table
The select queries are shown below for the two seperate calls.
I want to be able to show the results based on the rank ( The column that has the best match for the searched key ).
Since I am getting two different RANK arrays from the two calls, can i resort them in the code to get the new rank order to show the results in the screen

If I'm on a remote machine, meaning a computer not in the WSFC cluster, and I open SSMS 2014, point it to a SQL Instance, and open activity monitor:
1. I get all the panes and charts except % Processor Time.
2. Then, if I authenticate to the cluster's domain by mapping a drive with valid domain credentials, I'm free to put performance counters in the Perfmon - - - but SQL Activity Monitor shuts down with“The Activity Monitor is unable to execute queries against server SQL-V01INSTANCE1..Activity monitor for this instance will be placed into a paused state.Use the context menu in the overview pane to resume the activity monitor.
Additional information: Access is denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED))(Mscorlib)”
3. Of course, the Activity monitor can't be resumed via the context menu. Removing counters and closing the perfmon do not work. I dropped the mapped drive and rebooted the machine. That brought back 95% of the information in the Activity monitor.
4. Further experimentation showed that any mapping of drive shares present on the SQL Server to the computer running SSMS cut off functionality of the 'overview' pane in the remote machine's SQL Activity monitor -- the monitor that had been trying to watch the server offering the shares.

Hi all,
Our star schema design has one fact table and 3 dimensions.
The FK's in the fact do not necessarily make up the primary key. So I have an identifier in the fact table as PK. Here is my index assignment:
Fact Table - Clustered Index on PK
Non Clustered Index 1 on FK1
Non Clustered Index 2 on FK2
Non Clustered Index 3 on FK3
Each Dimension Table - Clustered Index on PK
Non Clustered Index on Attribute. This is the attribute that will be used in reports / cubes.
Is the above design good to start with?

I just installed SQL Server 2005 and need to create a full-text indexing. I looked up how to do it, but the full-text indexing option is ghosted so i don't even have the option to enable it...any ideas? I tried searching for hours with no luck.

I've been driving myself nuts trying to get a sensible product search
going. The existing live site search is just a LIKE %searchterm% on
the Title field in our Products table. Fast, but not great ;) Talks
between IT and Marketing have resulted in this being the desired
results and order:
Exact Title match
Substring Title match
Substring Keywords match
Substring Description match
OK, I can easily do this with UNION queries using LIKE (and a virtual
"weight" column in each query), but the query takes too long. So I'm
trying out SQL Server full text indexing, in an attempt to get the
speed up (and the natural language stuff is just plain cool).
Where I'm running into problems is doing a FULLTEXT match on
Description. It seems that to do a phrase match (e.g. "new york"
should match only Descriptions where the phrase "new york" occurs) I
need to enclose the search term in quotation marks in the query (or
maybe single AND double quotes).
But using parameters in ASP.NET (which I'm supposed to do to avoid SQL
injection attacks, yes?) I don't really have full control of the
quoting - ASP.NET and/or SQL Server automagically quotes strings for
me before passing them into the query. I think.
For example, this doesn't find any description matches:
