Guys
I'm having difficulty setting the default value getdate() to a date parameter
CREATE PROC dbo.SPROCNAME
@NameVARCHAR(60) ,
@BusinessDayDATETIME = GETDATE() ,
@OutputVARCHAR(15) = 'Report'
AS
BEGIN.....
When I try and run the SQL to create the proc I get the error message
Server: Msg 170, Level 15, State 1, Procedure HDD_sp_Ins_HA_Period_Hypo, Line 4
Line 4: Incorrect syntax near '('.
Any ideas what is wrong with the syntax ?
Thx in advance

Hi,I have a ShoppingCart class with a lot of properties (due to structure of a legacy Orders table). I have a ShoppingCart table also which contains a lot of the same fields as my orders table.There are a lot of fields (mostly ints) which have been initalised to 0
in my ShoppingCart class and then inserted into the ShoppingCart table
when users add items to the cart. These fields are then inserted into the orders table upon check out. When i attempt to place a new record in the orders table from the ShoppingCart table, I am receiving a bunch of Foregin Key constraint errors due to all the int fields containing 0's.What i would like to do is initalise all the properites of my ShoppingCart object to DBNull.Value but of course I can't convert type 'System.DBNull' to 'int' and i can't set to 'null' either as int's are value types.I also tried:private Int32 _fieldname = Convert.ToInt32(DBNull.Value);This compiled but gave InvalidCastException runtime error.So the only option that i can think of is, as i build the parameter array to be sent to my stored procedure, test the value of each parameter, if it is 0 (or an empty string) then don't pass the actual field value but pass DBNull.Value instead.I REALLY don't want to do this as there are around 60 parameters being passed to this procedure and this will be time consuming and messy.Any suggestions would be most appreciated!ps If i could avoid having 60 parameters being passed I would...trust me!

Hi,
I'm trying to put two textbox values together and make an insert parameter out of them. It doesn't give me any errors but the database value is null. Here's the code:
This is the function at the top of the page: (the lbl1.text is to control that it gets the value at that point, which it does...)Protected Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs)
Dim useAU As String = tbUseAmount.Text & " " & ddUnit1.Text
Dim maxSU As String = tbMaxStored.Text & " " & ddUnit2.Text
Dim amountP As New Parameter(useAU)
Dim storedP As New Parameter(maxSU)
lbl1.Text = amountP.ToString
amountP.Name = "useAmountUnit"
storedP.Name = "maxStoredunit"
SqlDataSource1.Insert()
End Sub
The parameters: (with a bunch of other parameters which it takes straight from textboxes and works great)
<InsertParameters>
<asp:ControlParameter Name="name" Type="String" ControlID="tbName" />
<asp:ControlParameter Name="RSmarkings" Type="String" ControlID="tbRSmarkings" />
<asp:ControlParameter Name="CAS" Type="String" ControlID="tbCAS" />
<asp:ControlParameter Name="precautions" Type="String" ControlID="tbprecautions" />
<asp:Parameter Name="useAmountUnit" Type="String" />
<asp:Parameter Name="maxStoredUnit" Type="String" />
<asp:ControlParameter Name="KTTdate" Type="String" ControlID="tbDate" />
<asp:ControlParameter Name="supplier" Type="String" ControlID="tbsupplier" />
</InsertParameters>
Any clues?

Hi,
I am trying to get the login name of a user, trim off some characters, which works fine, convert this to a string variable, which works fine and then use this variable in an sql select parameter.
I've tried countless things and am not sure why my variable @NewString is not working in the Select command. If I add a default value I know is present, it works, but it can't seem to pick up the variable value of NewString. It prints out as expected in the response.write statement, but I really need it to connect to the corresponding value in the database.
Any ideas are greatly appreciated-code below.
Thanks,
Liz

Hello,
I can't figure out how to pass values from report parameters to a variable in custom code.
I have a Report Parameter called Parm1 of type string. It contains the following:
Label: Value:
Labell1 Value1
Label2 Value2
In custom code I have declared a variable thus:
Public Dim ParmValue As string = Parameters!Parm1.Value
What I want is this: When a user select a report, they will have to choose a parameter from a dropdown-list (created automatically when creating a paramete). The chosen parameter will be passed to the variable ParmValue which I use as one of the parametes in a text-box like this:
=code.InstanceName.MethodName(ParmValue)
InstanceName is the instance of a class from a dll I reference.
It works fine if I hard-code the paramter like this:
Public Dim ParmValue As string = "SomeString" instead of:
Public Dim ParmValue As string = Parameters!Parm1.Value
The error I get is this:
[rsCompilerErrorInCode] There is an error on line 0 of custom code: [BC30469] Reference to a non-shared member requires an object reference.
I don't know if I'm at all on the right track here.
Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks
/Peter

I want to know why this code does not work in a query. The table 'iDay_INTRAD' exists and is detected if I use a statement exec sp_tables iDay_INTRAD. This statement returns one row. The code below returns no rows. Apparently the query is looking for table '@p1' not the value of this variable. Is it possible to do what I want to do in SQL Server?
DECLARE @p1 varchar (10)
DECLARE @p2 varchar(10)
SET @p1 = 'iDay_'
SET @p2 = 'INTRAD'
SET @p1 = @p1 + @p2
exec sp_tables @p1

I could successfully modify the package level variable using a script component (Control Flow Level) and execute the data flow task after this script component. The OLE DB Command has one parameter for which I'm using one of the user variable. Here's the SQL statement.
SELECT Year_Key, Year_Name, Year_Short_Name, Year_Number, Year_Start_Date, Year_End_Date
FROM d_Time_School_Year
WHERE (Year_Key = ?)
This works fine. But I want to pass the year_key to a function which accepts a parameter. The SQL should be like this
SELECT Year_Key, Year_Name, Year_Short_Name, Year_Number, Year_Start_Date, Year_End_Date
FROM fn_TimeDimension (?)
But SSIS doesn't like this. When I click on parameters command button I get and error like this
"Parameters cannot be extracted from the SQL command. The provider might not help.........
Syntax error, Permission Violation, or the non-specific error(Microsoft SQL native Client)"
Any clue how to utilize the variables in a SQL which gets data from a function instead of a table?
Thanks

Is it possible to use a VARIABLE in the Lookup Transform? I am setting the cache mode to partial and have modified the caching SQL statement on the advanced tab to include the parameterized query, but the parameter button only allows me to select columns to map to the parameter. I need to use a variable instead. I see the ParameterMap property of the transform in the advanced editor, but don't see how I can use this to map to a variable.
Can this be done, or do I need to use a new source, sort and left join component to accomplish the same thing?
Thanks!

Hi there,
I am working on SSIS package that gets data from SQL 2005 Database and writes that to a flat file. But I need to write the count of records as part of the header.
Here is what i am trying:
The OLE DB Source is calling a stored procedure and returning two things i.e. a resultset and an output parameter. The data access mode is SQL Command.
Code SnippetEXEC [Get_logins] ?, ?, ? OUTPUT
In the Set Query Parameters dialogbox, all the three patameters are mapped to three different user variables.
What is happening is that the user variable that is mapped to output parameter is never updated. The header property expression is written as follows
Code SnippetRIGHT("0000000000" + (DT_STR, 10, 1252)@LoginCount, 10)
I tried to watch the variable in watch window but to no avail. Any guidance if it is bug or I am missing some thing? Any thoughts, how can I accomplish this? I have also tried adding Row Count Transformation but its variable has the same behaviour. If I set the value of @LoginCount variable to some value, this initially set value is successfully written to the file header.
Thanks

I have been using a workaround because i think I don't understand something about sqldatasource select parameters.
I am using control parameters as a workaround for when i want to use a variable at runtime. i assign the value to the control - then use that as my select parameter. is there another way?
here's what i do:
<asp:Literal runat="server" ID="litCurrentYear" Text="" Visible="False"></asp:Literal>
<asp:SqlDataSource runat="server" ID="dsSummaryTable" ConnectionString="***"SelectCommand="spReportSummary" SelectCommandType="StoredProcedure"><SelectParameters><asp:ControlParameter Name="CurrentYear" ControlID="litCurrentYear" PropertyName="Text" /></SelectParameters></asp:SqlDataSource>
On PageLoad I assign litCurrentYear.Text whatever value I want. It works fine. But there must be a more elegant way - I just don't know it yet :)

Hi Everyone:
I have a quick but imp SSIS question. I have a For Each Loop Container, and inside that I wish to add a Execute SQL Task item, so I can call a sp to do some inserts/updates. The ForEachLoop container is looping thru a ADO Object source variable(which is the user variable defined by me, as a FullResultSet). In my Execute SQL Task, I would like to utilize one of the columns from the result set as an input parameter to my Stored procedure. Can someone please advise on how to do this? Please let me know if you have any more questions. I am waiting for a response... Thanks in advance.

I'm trying to call a stored procedure in an Execute SQL task which has several parameters. Four of the parameters are input from package variables. A fifth parameter is an output parameter and its result needs to be saved to a package variable.
Here is the entirety of the SQL in the SQLStatement property:
EXEC log_ItemAdd @Destination = 'isMedicalClaim', @ImportJobId = ?, @Started = NULL, @Status = 1, @FileType = ?, @FileName = ?, @FilePath = ?, @Description = NULL, @ItemId = ? OUTPUT;
I have also tried it like this:
EXEC log_ItemAdd 'isMedicalClaim', ?, NULL, 1, ?, ?, ?, NULL, ? OUTPUT;
Here are my Parameter Mappings:
Variable Name Direction Data Type Parameter Name
User::ImportJobId Input LONG 0
User::FileType Input LONG 1
User::FileName Input LONG 2
User::FilePath Input LONG 3
User::ImportId Output LONG 4
When this task is run, I get the following error:
0xC002F210 at [Task Name], Execute SQL Task: Executing the query "EXEC log_ItemAdd @Destination = 'isMedicalClaim', @ImportJobId = ?, @Started = NULL, @Status = 1, @FileType = ?, @FileName = ?, @FilePath = ?, @Description = NULL, @ItemId = ? OUTPUT" failed with the following error: "An error occurred while extracting the result into a variable of type (DBTYPE_I4)". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly.
The User::ImportId package variable is scoped to the package and I've given it data types from Byte through Int64. It always fails with the same error. I've also tried adjusting the Data Type on the Parameter Mapping, but nothing seems to work.
Any thoughts on what I might be doing wrong?
Thanks.

Hello,
I'm attempting to pass a datetime variable to a stored proc (called via sql task). The variables are set in a previous task where they act as OUTPUT paramters from a stored proc. The variables are set correctly after that task executes. The data type for those parameters is set to DBTIMESTAMP.
When I try to exectue a similar task passing those variables as parameters, I get an error:
Error: 0xC002F210 at ax_settle, Execute SQL Task: Executing the query "exec ? = dbo.ax_settle_2 ?, ?,?,3,1" failed with the following error: "Invalid character value for cast specification". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly.
If I replace the 2nd and 3rd parameters with quoted strings, it is successful:
exec ?= dbo.ax_settle ?, '3/29/06', '4/30/06',3,1
The stored proc is expecting datetime parameters.
Thanks for the help.

I've created a varible timeStamp that I want to feed into a stored procedure but I'm not having any luck. I'm sure its a simple SSIS 101 problem that I can't see or I may be using the wrong syntax
in Execute SQL Task Editor I have
conn type -- ole db
connection -- some server
sql source type -- direct input
sql statement -- exec testStoredProc @timeStamp = ?
if I put a value direclty into the statement it works just fine: exec testStoredProc '02-25-2008'
This is the syntax I found to execute the procedure, I don't udnerstand few things about it.
1. why when I try to run it it changes it to exec testStoredProc @timeStamp = ? with error: EXEC construct or statement is not supported , followed by erro: no value given for one or more requreid parameters.
2. I tired using SQL commands exec testStoredProc @timeStamp and exec testStoredProc timeStamp but nothing happens. Just an error saying unable to convert varchar to datetime
3. Also from SRS I usually have to point the timeStamp to @timeStamp and I dont know how to do that here I thought it was part of the parameter mapping but I can't figure out what the parameter name and parameter size should be; size defaults to -1.
Thank you, please help.

I'm working on an SSIS package that uses a vb.net script to grab some XML from a webservice (I'd explain why I'm not using a web service task here, but I'd just get angry), and I wish to then assign the XML string to a package variable which then gets sent along to a DataFlow Task that contains an XML Source that points at said variable. when I copy the XML string into the variable value in the script, if do a quickwatch on the variable (as in Dts.Variable("MyXML").value) it looks as though the new value has been copied to the variable, but when I step out of that task and look at the package explorer the variable is its original value.
I think the problem is that the dataflow XML source has a lock on the variable and so the script task isn't affecting it. Does anyone have any experience with this kind of problem, or know a workaround?
