Transact SQL :: Insert Values From Variable Into Table Variable

Nov 4, 2015

CREATE TABLE #T(branchnumber VARCHAR(4000))

insert into #t(branchnumber) values (005)
insert into #t(branchnumber) values (090)
insert into #t(branchnumber) values (115)
insert into #t(branchnumber) values (210)
insert into #t(branchnumber) values (216)

[code]....

I have a parameter which should take multiple values into it and pass that to the code that i use. For, this i created a parameter and temporarily for testing i am passing some values into it.Using a dynamic SQL i am converting multiple values into multiple records as rows into another variable (called @QUERY). My question is, how to insert the values from variable into a table (table variable or temp table or CTE).OR Is there any way to parse the multiple values into a table. like if we pass multiple values into a parameter. those should go into a table as rows.

Best Way To Send DB Results To Variable

Feb 28, 2005

Hello all

I have a database query which will return a single value

SELECT COUNT(DISTINCT(Level_id)) FROM RoleSkill WHERE Route_ID = 1

obviously this will return only a single value and not an array of data like most database queries, therefore i would like it to be sent directly to an integer variable.

I tried doing this directly with a sqlcommand but get error that it cannot be converted to integer. Is there a good way of solving this problem?

thanks for your help

Tom

How To Assign Query Results Into A Variable

Apr 4, 2008

Hello,

Could anyone help me please,

I need a select to add the results into a variable of type string

id(int) name (varchar2)
1 a
2 b,c
3 d,e,f,g

tried wit the following:
DECLARE @variable1
SELECT @variable1 = name
FROM table

The problem with this sentece is that the only value assigned to @variable1 is the last row value, i.e.
@variable1 = "d,e,f,g"

What I need is to concatenate all values returned by the query, i.e.
@variable1 = "a,b,c,d,e,f,g"

Thank you very much in advance,

Assign Aggregate Count Results To Variable

Sep 6, 2007

I have an aggregate transform that outputs two columns, a group by (DT_STR) and a count(column name) (DT_UI8). The results are put into a Recordset Destination. When I attempt to map these columns to variables in a Foreach Loop Container (using a Foreach ADO Enumerator), I get the error:

Error: 0xC001F009 at ExtractNNRPersonUpdates: The type of the value being assigned to variable "User::NNRPersonCount" differs from the current variable type. Variables may not change type during execution. Variable types are strict, except for variables of type Object.

Error: 0xC001C012 at Foreach Household Loop Container: ForEach Variable Mapping number 2 to variable "User::NNRPersonCount" cannot be applied.

The variable mentioned in the error message is setup as a UInt64. I've tried all other integer data types and nothing works. I also tried changing the data type of the count coming out of the Aggregate transform but received a warning stating this isn't possible.

Any idea what I may be doing wrong?

Invalid Results For Order By On Select Query Against Table Variable

Jan 21, 2008

I am attempting to sort the results of a query executed against a table variable in descending order. The data is being inserted into the table variable as expected, however when I attempt to order the results in descending order, the results are incorrect. I have included the code as well as the result set.

DECLARE @tblCustomRange AS TABLE

(

RecordID INTEGER IDENTITY(1,1),

RangeMonth INTEGER,

RangeDay INTEGER

)

DECLARE @Month INTEGER

DECLARE @Day INTEGER

-- Initialize month and day variables.

SET @Month = 8

SET @Day = 11

-- Insert records into the table variable.
INSERT INTO @tblCustomRange

(RangeMonth, RangeDay) VALUES (1,2)

INSERT INTO @tblCustomRange

(RangeMonth, RangeDay) VALUES (1,27)

INSERT INTO @tblCustomRange

(RangeMonth, RangeDay) VALUES (6,10)

INSERT INTO @tblCustomRange

(RangeMonth, RangeDay) VALUES (9,22)

INSERT INTO @tblCustomRange

(RangeMonth, RangeDay) VALUES (12,16)

-- Select everything from the table variable ordering the results by month, day in
-- descending order

SELECT * FROM @tblCustomRange

WHERE (RangeMonth < @Month) OR

(RangeMonth = @Month AND RangeDay <= @Day)

ORDER BY RangeMonth, RangeDay DESC

I am getting the following resultset:

RecordID RangeMonth RangeDay

----------- ----------- -----------

2 1 27

1 1 2

3 6 10

I am expecting the following resultset:

RecordID RangeMonth RangeDay

----------- ----------- -----------

3 6 10

2 1 27

1 1 2

Update Statement Using Declared Variable Produces Unexpected Results On SQL Server 2005

Aug 7, 2007

We are getting unexpected results from the following update statement when it is executed on SQL Server 2005.

The strange thing is that we get duplicated values for QM_UID (although when run under SQL Server 2000 we don't get duplicated values)

Can anyone explain why this happens or suggest another way of populating this column without using a cursor or adding a temporary autoincrement column and copying the values over?

declare @NextID int;

set @NextID = 1;

update tmp set QM_UID=@NextID, @NextID = @NextID + 1;

select QM_UID, count(*) from tmp group by QM_UID having count(*) > 1 order by QM_UID

SQL Server 2008 :: Insert Data Into Table Variable But Need To Insert 1 Or 2 Rows Depending On Data

Feb 26, 2015

I am writing a query to return some production data. Basically i need to insert either 1 or 2 rows into a Table variable based on a decision as to does the production part make 1 or 2 items ( The Raw data does not allow for this it comes from a look up in my database)

I can retrieve all the source data i need easily but when i come to insert it into the table variable i need to insert 1 record if its a single part or 2 records if its a twin part. I know could use a cursor but im sure there has to be an easier way !

Below is the code i have at the moment

declare @startdate as datetime
declare @enddate as datetime
declare @Line as Integer
DECLARE @count INT

set @startdate = '2015-01-01'
set @enddate = '2015-01-31'

Basically, I am populating a temporary table with data, then inserting into a main table those records from the temporary table that aren't in the main table. In addition, I am updating those records that are in the main table.

When I call the following SQL, all of the records from the temporary table are inserted even though those records already exist. Bizzarrely the update statement works perfectly.

INSERT INTO
AffiliateCategories (Identifier, AffiliateID, NetworkID, AffiliateCategoryName, NetworkCategoryName)
SELECT
Identifier,
AffiliateID,
1,
AffiliateCategoryName,
NetworkCategoryName
FROM
#TempTradeDoublerCategories
WHERE
#TempTradeDoublerCategories.AffiliateCategoryName NOT IN
(
SELECT
AffiliateCategoryName
FROM
AffiliateCategories
)

I am not sure why it is doing this and it's driving me crazy. If anyone has any ideas why this is happening, or knows of a better way to accomplish this then please let me know.

Are there some issues with string comparisons going on here?

The table that populates the temp table is defined as:

CREATE TABLE [dbo].[Staging_TradeDoubler_Categories](
    [id] [int] NULL,
    [name] [nvarchar](255) COLLATE Latin1_General_CI_AS NULL,
    [merchantName] [nvarchar](255) COLLATE Latin1_General_CI_AS NULL,
    [TDCategories_Id] [int] NULL,
    [AffiliateID] [int] NULL
) ON [PRIMARY]

Insert Statement Using Results Of Select Query

Feb 11, 2015

I need to insert data into a table based on the results returned by a select statement. Basically, the select statement below gives me a list of all the work orders created in the last hour.

select worknumber from worksorderhdr where date_created > DATEADD(HOUR, -1, GETDATE())

This might return anywhere between 5 and 50 records each time. What I then need to do is use each of the work numbers returned to create a record in the spec_checklist_remind table. The other details in the insert statement will be the same for each insert, it's just the worknumber from the select statement that needs to be added to the insert where the ?? are below:

INSERT INTO spec_checklist_remind (form, record_type, linked_to_worknumber, spec_checklist_id) values (5, 0, '??',52)"

Need To Pull A Select Few Results From INSERT EXEC

Aug 17, 2006

I'd *like* to execute a sProc within another sProc, because this other one (let's call it dataProc) will provide me with results I need that are calculated based off execing other procs within that proc itself.

I'd like to use this data in a new sProc (we'll call it newProc), but I don't need NEARly all of the columns. The dataProc returns 1 row with 42 columns. I need about 4-5 of those for my newProc.

The dataProc does not have any output variables, and I do not want to change the signature, because several pages/apps use this existing dataProc.

My question:
Is there a way to INSERT INTO table EXEC dataProc
*Without* making a temp table that takes in every single column the dataProc puts out?

Any help is much appreciated.. thanks!

Insert Statement Results In Data Duplication Using MDAC 2.8

Mar 7, 2008

I am using Remote Data service to Query an Sql Server Database using MDAC. The Os in which server is loaded in Window 2003 and the MDAC 2.8 version is installed. Now I create a table X with identity column. Then when I try to insert records in that table using Insert into X select * from Y statement. The statement gets executed by when i check the X table I find that the duplicate records are present with different identity no's.

Even when i truncate and retry the same thing occurs.

What could be the reason for the same??

Transact SQL :: Insert Trigger Returning Incorrect Results

PROBLEM:  The SQL insert trigger code below is returning incorrect results.  In some cases the results returned are from entirely different fields than those specified as the source field in the SET statement.  For instance the value returne for the Price_BeforeAdj field does not = 20000000?  It returns a NULL.  See code below.

Transact SQL :: Insert Constant Value Along With Results Of Select Into Temp Table?

Dec 4, 2015

I'm trying to fill a temp table whose columns are the same as another table plus it has one more column. The temp table's contents are those rows in the other table that meet a particular condition plus another column that is the name of the table that is the source for the rows being added.

Example: 'permTable' has col1 and col2. The data in these two rows plus the name of the table from which it came ('permTable' in this example) are to be added to #temp.

Data in permTable
col1   col2
11,    12
21,     22

Data in #temp after permTable's filtered contents have been added

TableName, col1   col2
permTable, 11,     12
permTable, 21,     22

What is the syntax for an insert like this?

Data Access :: BULK INSERT Yields Inconsistent Results

May 6, 2015

I am getting inconsistent results when BULK INSERTING data from a tab-delimited text file. As part of my testing, I run the same code on the same file again and again, and I get different results every time! I get this on SQL 2005 and SQL 2012 R2.We have an application that imports data from a spreadsheet. The sheet contains section headers with account numbers and detail rows with transactions by date:

AAAA.1234 /* (account number)*/
1/1/2015      $150                 First Transaction
1/3/2015      $24.233              Second Transaction

BBBB.5678
1/1/2015      $350                 Third Transaction
1/3/2015      $24.233              Fourth Transaction

My Import program saves this spreadsheet at tab-delimited text, then I use BULK INSERT to bring the data into a generic table full of varchar(255) fields. There are about 90,000 rows in each day's data; after the BULK INSERT about half of them are removed for various reasons. Next I add a RowID column to the table with the IDENTITY (1,1) property. This gives my raw data unique row numbers.

I then run a routine that converts and copies those records into another holding table that's a copy of the final destination table. That routine parses though the data, assigning the account number in the section header to each detail row. It ends up looking like this:

AAAA.1234     1/1/2015      $150          First Purchase
AAAA.1234     1/3/2015      $24.233     Second Purchase
BBBB.5678     1/1/2015      $350            Third Purchase
BBBB.5678     1/3/2015      $24.233       Fourth Purchase

My technique: I use a cursor to get the starting RowID for each Account Number: I then use the upper and lower RowIDs to do an INSERT into the final table. The query looks like this:

SELECT RowID, SUBSTRING(RowHeader, 6,4) + '.UBC1' AS AccountNumber
FROM   GenericTable
WHERE RowHeader LIKE '____.____%'

Results look like this:

But every time I run the routine, I get different numbers! my results are not accurate. I get inconsistent results EVERY TIME.Here is my code, with table, field and account names changed for business confidentiality.This is a high profile project at my company;

TRUNCATE TABLE GenericImportTable;
ALTER TABLE GenericImportTable DROP COLUMN RowID;
BULK INSERT GenericImportTable FROM 'SERVERGeneralAppnameDataFile.2015.05.04.tab.txt'
WITH (FIELDTERMINATOR = ' ', ROWTERMINATOR = '
', FIRSTROW = 6)

Variable To Insert Parameter

Nov 7, 2007

Hi,
I'm trying to put two textbox values together and make an insert parameter out of them. It doesn't give me any errors but the database value is null. Here's the code:
This is the function at the top of the page: (the lbl1.text is to control that it gets the value at that point, which it does...)Protected Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs)

Dim useAU As String = tbUseAmount.Text & " " & ddUnit1.Text

Dim maxSU As String = tbMaxStored.Text & " " & ddUnit2.Text

Dim amountP As New Parameter(useAU)

Dim storedP As New Parameter(maxSU)

lbl1.Text = amountP.ToString

amountP.Name = "useAmountUnit"

storedP.Name = "maxStoredunit"

SqlDataSource1.Insert()

End Sub

The parameters: (with a bunch of other parameters which it takes straight from textboxes and works great)
<InsertParameters>
<asp:ControlParameter Name="name" Type="String" ControlID="tbName" />
<asp:ControlParameter Name="RSmarkings" Type="String" ControlID="tbRSmarkings" />
<asp:ControlParameter Name="CAS" Type="String" ControlID="tbCAS" />
<asp:ControlParameter Name="precautions" Type="String" ControlID="tbprecautions" />
<asp:Parameter Name="useAmountUnit" Type="String" />
<asp:Parameter Name="maxStoredUnit" Type="String" />
<asp:ControlParameter Name="KTTdate" Type="String" ControlID="tbDate" />
<asp:ControlParameter Name="supplier" Type="String" ControlID="tbsupplier" />
</InsertParameters>

Any clues?

How To Insert Variable In One Column

Jan 9, 2008

Hi there

I am migrating all my DTSs to SSISs. One of them is a very basic DTS, that copies data from a text file and places it in a table with one extra column. That extra column is populated with the value of a global variable.

In DTS mode I was creating a custom ActiveX transformation stating
DTSDestination("FieldName")=DTSGlobalVariables("VariableName").Value

Can any one advise me on the best way to accomplish this in the SSIS?
I tried several approaches but all failing.

Many thanks

Insert Increment Variable

Oct 31, 2007

This is on SQL 2000 and 2005. I need to increment a variable on insert, but am having a hard time getting a workable solution:

declare @var int
set @var = (select max(id) from table1)

insert into table1

select val1,

@var +1 as val2
from table2
where blah and blah and blah

If I were trying to insert val1's of (5, 10, 20) with @var having an initial value of 100, the added rows should be:

val1 val2
5 101
10 102
20 103

Does anyone know how to do this without temp tables (or table variables)?
