I have been provided with a table where one of the columns is of TimeStamp data type. My question is how to insert and update data in this column through my SQL Statement? When I run my SQL statement, it gives me an error with this column name in the error.

There's a nullable Timestamp data type column in all tables in Sage SQL database.
When using Insert SQL query add a new record, with a NULL for the Timestamp column, into a table it seems alright. When opening the table it shows the inserted data in the Timestamp column is Binary. But when reading the record by Sage program there's an error message as the following:
'Fractional truncation: table scheme.opheadm unique_no 24969592 1'.
Any idea what the problem is?

ASP.NET application, MS SQL DB, and a table with a timestamp(8) column.
Error:
Cannot insert a non-null value into a timestamp column. Use INSERT with a column list or with a default of NULL for the timestamp column.
I'm using an SQLDataAdapter and typed DataSet, inserting a row into the dataset, and calling Update() to send changes to the DB.
The thing that baffles me about receiving this error, is that the DB column can be null and I get this error wheter I attempt to insert NULL or a valid byte array into the column.
(No - I am not trying to insert a datetime into the column.)
The error just doesn't seem too descriptive of the problem I'm having, and I'm quite confused.
All help greatly appreciated!

I am using SSMA 6.0 for DB2. When trying to migrate data with a table have timestamp column, it fails with an error "Hour, Minute, and Second parameters describe an unrepresentable DateTime." however i don't see any issues with the source data.

I am having problem in bulk update of a sql server table haning identity column from a datatable( has no identity column) using sqlbulkcopy. I tried several approaches, but it does not show any error nor is the table getting updated. But the identity value seems to getting increased every time.

I have a transaction table having about 40 crore rows in source. It don't have timestamp and unique key columns. It have only Bill_month and Bill_Year columns. Actually for loading this table into staging I have added a new datetime column by adding default bill_date as 01. Then
* First we delete last 3 month data from staging tables.
* Get last 3 months data from source table.
* Load that 3 months data from source to staging table.
We do this because we only get update for last three months data. Now I have to include this transaction table as Fact table in DW. What will be the best practice for loading the fact table by picking data form staging table. Also we have to look up with dimensions for Foreign Keys.
* Should I implement the same method of deleting last 3 months records and loading them again.

I am writing a query to return some production data. Basically i need to insert either 1 or 2 rows into a Table variable based on a decision as to does the production part make 1 or 2 items ( The Raw data does not allow for this it comes from a look up in my database)

Is there a way to avoid entering column names in the excel template for me to create an excel file froma dynamic excel using openrowset.
I have teh following code but it works fien when column names are given ahead of time.
If I remove the column names from the template and just to Select * from the table and Select * from sheet1 then it tells me that column names donot match.

The issue I have is this. I have been asked to delete all information from a table that was inserted before May 12 this year. The issue is that when the DB was created, whoever designedd it neglected to add a timestamp column for the user data table (the one I need to purge). Does SQL, by default, happen to store insert times? Would it be something that might hide ina log file somewhere?
I receive this message when I try to run any report. The reportserver and reportservertempdb databases were upgraded using backup/restore from SQL2000 to SQL2005 on a separate server which is running RS2005 . Please help. Thanks

Hi, I was wondering how I can complete a column (which doesnt have an input one) with data.
For example:
I have a sql query which bring data of 3 columns
ID | FISRT NAME | LAST NAME
1 MIKE MORGAN
2 SARA JOHANES
So, I will insert that data in a FLAT FILE CONNECTION MANAGER, which I configured with 3 columns and I did the corresponding mapping in the FLAT FILE DESTINTATION.
Now, If I add one more column in the FLAT FILE CONNECTION MANAGER, I will not have it mapped to a input one, obviously. So, what I need is to add one more column to the flat file destination and complete it with zeros values in it.
Probably I can solve this part by introducing a DERIVED COLUMN and there I can configure the zeros that I want to add to the column. But I'm not sure if I can do that without having a input column.
So, the question will be, how can I add one column to a flat file which doesnt have a input and introduce any value that I want to it?

while inserting in column Day_No in RPT_Invoice_Shipped table, I have to use formula (Transaction_Date-start_date+1) where Transaction_Date from STG_Shipped_Invoiced and start_date from Cal_date table. I was using datepart (mm, Transaction_Date) so it gives month_no, and this month_no we can join with month_no of Cal_date table and fetch start_date from Cal_date table, so that we can use start_date for formula (Transaction_Date-start_date+1).

but i want to insert the data into table having two columns. if iam trying to insert the data into table having two columns its not inserting.
can anyone help me how to do this?

I have 2 tables, different designs, different number of rows, I simply need to check whether the contents of a column in the first table is in a column in the second table, just simply a table/column to table/column data check for the same data content.

I came from DW admin background and new to SQL programming. I have 3 tables:
CUSTOMER - cust_id, cust_name, cust_state
SALES_HEADER - sales_id, cust_id, sales_amount
SALES_DETAIL - prod_id, sales_id, prod_name, prod_price
I am trying to insert into SALES_HEADER table from CUSTOMER and SALES_DETAIL tables. Here are the SQL queries that I am trying to insert.
insert into dbo.SALES_HEADER (SALES_ID,SALES_AMOUNT)
select SALES_ID, sum(PROD_PRICE)
from BOBJ.dbo.SALES_DETAIL
group by SALES_ID;
The above query is working good & to get cust_id from CUSTOMER:
Update dbo.SALES_HEADER
set CUST_ID = (select CUST_ID from dbo.CUSTOMER
where dbo.SALES_HEADER.CUST_ID = dbo.CUSTOMER.CUST_ID)
where CUST_ID is null;
This query is not working & getting message - 6 rows updated successfully.
But using select * from dbo.SALES_HEADER, CUST_ID is still showing as NULL.
What did I do wrong and is there a way to write single query rather than two queries.

Now i want to add a new field called: CustomerID (customerInfo is a separate table) as a foreign key so my new table should like this:

SaleID, ProdID and CustomerID will be composite key. But when i insert the new column so it gives an error (Saving Changes is not permitted. The changes you have made).
