I want to add a product photo in jpeg format to a products table. I'm storing the image of the product in separate jpeg files located in a folder on the same server that houses SQL Server. I don't want to store the photo directly in the table. I just want to reference the file location of the jpeg photo in a record.
Can someone provide me with code I need to add to the photo column for each record in the products table in order to reference the location of the jpeg photo associated with that record?
Subsequently, I want the photo to pop up in SQL Server Reporting Services product report.
Thank you.

I am using the 3-tiered architecture design (presentation, business laws, and data acess layers). I am stuck on how to send the image the user selects in the upload file control to the BLL and then to the DAL because the DAL does all the inserts into the database. I would like to be able to check the file type in the BLL to make sure the file being uploaded is indeed a picture. Is there a way I can send the location of the file to the BLL, check the filetype, then upload the file and have the DAL insert the image into the database? I have seen examples where people use streams to upload the file directly from their presentation layer, but I would like to keep everything seperated in the three classes if possible. I also wasn't sure what variable type the image would be in the function in the BLL that receive the image from the PL. If there are any examples or tips anyone can give me that would be appreciated.

Hello.
I have a SQL table with one column that has the type = image.
I have a Stored procedure that inserts an image into that table.
CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[Test]
@test image
AS
BEGIN
insert into Table_1(test)values(@test)
END
I am using ADO in C++ for creating a connection,command, and parameters.
Code Block
VARIANT par;
par.vt = VT_ARRAY;
par.pbVal = (BYTE*)pBuffer;
pCommand->Parameters->Append(pCommand->CreateParameter("test",DataTypeEnum::adArray, ParameterDirectionEnum::adParamInput,strlen(pBuffer),par));
pCommand->Execute(NULL,NULL,CommandTypeEnum::adCmdStoredProc);
where
Code Block
_CommandPtr pCommand;
pCommand->CommandText = (_bstr_t)procedureName;
pCommand->CommandType = CommandTypeEnum::adCmdStoredProc;
//When I append the created parameter, in comutil.h, at these lines :
namespace _com_util {
inline void CheckError(HRESULT hr) throw(...)
{
if (FAILED(hr)) {
_com_issue_error(hr);
}
}
}
I get an exception : m_hresult 0x80020008 Bad variable type.
If I try to insert a string or an number, it works. But with BYTE* it dosen't.
Can someone help me?
Thanks

In SQL SERVER 2005, how can I get the ID of the record I just insert to table?
I defined a table MyTable, and I insert a record into the table using the SQL below
Insert into MyTable (Name) values ("User Name")
You know the field ID is IDENTITY, so it can not be in Insert SQL, and SQL SERVER will pass a value to it automatically.How can I know the ID of the record I just insert to table?
CREATE TABLE [dbo].[MyTable]( [ID] [int] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL, [Name] [nchar](10) NOT NULL,CONSTRAINT [PK_MyTable] PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED ( [ID] ASC)WITH (IGNORE_DUP_KEY = OFF) ON [PRIMARY]) ON [PRIMARY]

Hello,
This seems like such a simple problem but I am new developer even through I have been on the administration end of things for some time. I will go into more detail about my tables and there relationships below. Anyway, I am trying to create a many-to-many relationship within ms sql server 2005. I have created both of my primary tables and also a junction table per the directions on microsoft's website all per ms's instructions as stated here...
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms178043.aspx
At then end of these instruction it states as a NOTE: The creation of a junction table in a database diagram does not insert data from the related tables into the junction table. For information about inserting data into a table, see How to: Create Insert Results Queries (Visual Database Tools).
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms189098.aspx
and these directions do not go into detail on how to do an insert on a junction table. And I cant find out how to do this anywhere on the internet... I did create a T-SQL INSERT statement in a trigger as listed below but I end up getting an error AS LISTED BELOW....
Here is how I set everything up...
PetitionSet table consists of:
PetitionSetID int auto-increment primary key
PetitionSetName varchar(50) no nulls
PetitionSetScope varchar(50) no nulls
the Petition table consists of:
PetitionID int auto-increment primary key
PetitionSetID int no nulls
PetitionName varchar(50) no nulls
the SetToPetitionJunction table consists of:
PetitionSetID int
PetitionID int
And, there is a composite key made up of both the PetitionSetID and PetitionID fields.
I have created the foreign key relationships with DEFAULT VALUES from the SetToPetitionJunction table to each column's respective corresponding column in each of the tables: PetitionSet and Petition.
The trigger is on the Petition table and it has the following code:
set ANSI_NULLS ON
set QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON
go
-- =============================================
-- Author: Name
-- Create date:
-- Description:
-- =============================================
ALTER TRIGGER .[SetToPetitionJunctionTrigger]
ON .[dbo].[Petition]
AFTER INSERT
AS
BEGIN
-- SET NOCOUNT ON added to prevent extra result sets from
-- interfering with SELECT statements.
SET NOCOUNT ON;
INSERT INTO SetToPetitionJunction
(PetitionID, PetitionSetID)
SELECT Petition.PetitionID, PetitionSet.PetitionSetID
FROM Petition INNER JOIN
PetitionSet ON Petition.PetitionSetID = PetitionSet.PetitionSetID
END
I have created an asp.net 2.0 front end to insert values into the PetitionSet table and the Petition Table. And in the detailsview for the Petition table I manually insert the PetitionSetID field to the number that corresponds to an auto-generated number on the primary key of the PetitionSet table. So I am maintaining referential integrity...
The first time it works and inserts one record in the Junction table containing the PetitionSetID from the PetitionSet table and the PetitionID from the petition table.
Then when I try to add in another petition for the same petition set number just like I did the first time and then I get this error...
Violation of PRIMARY KEY constraint 'PK_SetToPetitionJunction'. Cannot insert duplicate key in object 'dbo.SetToPetitionJunction'.
The statement has been terminated.

This just happened today and I dont know why. I have a database on a SQL server 2005 database, that has a table called photos. It contains image data, but not the column says <Unable to read data>. But before that I get an error when I try to execute the table to retreive the data. The error is below. SQL Execution Error:Executed SQL statement: SELECT ID, AlbumID, Caption, BytesOriginal, BytesFull, BytesThumb FROM PhotosError Source: System.DataError Message: Invalid attempt to Read when reader is closed. This happens with SQL Server Management Studio, and Visual Studio 2005 when I try to access it. I tried two computers so its not that. Any help or insight would be appreciated.

Ok, the problem is that , i have a field called "Attach" in sql of type image, when selecting it , the field is getting data of type BYTE(). which am being unable to display them on an Image on the panel.
using the following vb.net code:
'Dim sel2 As String
'Dim myCom As SqlCommand
'Dim conn As New SqlConnection
'Dim drr As SqlDataReader
'Dim image As System.Drawing.Image
'sel2 = "select * from attach where att_desc = '" & DropDownList1.SelectedItem().Text & "' and doc_code = " & w_doc_code & " and subcode = " & w_doc_subcode & " and doc_num= " & w_doc_num & " "
'conn.ConnectionString = ("server=developer01;uid=sa;password=aims;database=DVPSOC;timeout=45")
'myCom = New SqlCommand(sel2, conn)
'conn.Open()
'drr = myCom.ExecuteReader()
'If drr.Read Then
' Me.ImageMap1.ImageUrl = drr.Item("attach")
'End If
'conn.Close()
Am getting an exeption on the following line Me.ImageMap1.ImageUrl = drr.Item("attach")
saying: Conversion from type 'Byte()' to type 'String' is not valid.
knowing that i tried converting using ToString but it's not getting any output then.
thanks for your help.

I have created a table that contains an image field and inserted 37 images into this table using the writetext method. But when I try to save the image to a file using Visual Basic I get an invalid format error when I open the bmp, gif, jpg file.
I tried doing the exact same thing with the pubs..pub_info table and the bmp, gif, and jpg file all open with no errors.
I then tried to insert one of these files into my table and see if it worked it did not.
So my question is how do I insert an image into a table correctly? Is there another way other then writetext?

Hi Folks,
My situation is that Excel files are to be downloaded into a SQL Server 2005 table (perhaps as type image or nvarchar), which serves as a document repository. From there, they should be converted to XML. Use of an NT file directory is strongly discouraged. I would like to have SSIS read the Excel from one field in a table and then write the XML into another field in the same (or perhaps another) table. Is this possible? If not, is the a strait-forward way to do this?
Also, I€™m hoping to invoke the SSIS script from a SQL Server INSERT trigger so the conversion is done during the INSERT.
Thanks,
Rob
