Insert Performance Different Between Two Servers

Jul 23, 2005

Hi,

Any suggestions on the following as I've kind of run out of ideas.

I have 2 servers which are the same spec ie box, processor etc. The
only difference I can tell is that the production box has raid setup
but the test box hasn't (I think).

I have created a stored procedure to insert 10k rows into a dummy table
with two columns.

I have logged onto the boxes directly so there are no networks issues
here. Also the boxes only have light traffic on them really, there
isn't much going on at the point of running.

The production box inserts the rows two times faster than the test box
i.e 30 secs rather than 1 min. Does anyone have any idea why this could
be, do you think it could be raid?

The prod box has 8 disks I think in hardware Raid 5 but as the test box
has 4 disks and it looks as if all the space is available i doubt raid
is being employed.

Thanks

Ian.

ps. does anyone know if there is a way to check the raid configuration
of a box from within windows? or do you have to re-boot and go through
the setup?

Inconsistent SP Performance On Different Servers

Jun 8, 2006

One of my developers recently installed a backup of the production database onto his test site. His test server has the same configuration as the production server.

One of the Stored Procedures that is called takes 1:45 to run on his machine, but only 2 seconds on the production server. This same SP takes only 2 seconds on my development database.

The SP is called iteratively, up to 10 times... to run against 10 separate fields. Depending on a value for a parameter called @CriteriaClassID, depends on which portion of the SP runs.

The significant difference in processing time in itself is baffling (since the servers are same specs / configuration, as far as I can tell, and the data is identical, since he has a backup of the most recent production data).

But more baffling: if, in his data, I switch the values from field 1 to field 2, and vice versa, his results take 2 seconds (switching the values in field 1 to field 2 switches the value in @CriteriaClassID which is passed through to this SP).

It's exactly the same SP; the only difference is that field 1 is processed first, field 2 second, field 3 third etc. On the production site and my development site, it doesn't make a difference in the order they are processed. On his machine it does.

Any ideas? I though perhaps his Indexes were corrupted in the rebuild, but we ran a SQL Server maintenance schedule to clean it up, and no improvement.

This is the SP, if it is of any help:

CREATE procedure [dbo].[st_pull_model_data] @ModelID as integer, @CriteriaID as integer
as

declare @ClientID as integer, @CriteriaClassId as char(1)

/*Procedure to pull data from org_model_data and postalcode_model_data for modeling and media analysis */

/*This procedure is used by SP st_model_data */

If @CriteriaID is not null

Performance Problem While Using Linked Servers

Jul 23, 2005

I am transferring data from SQl Server 2000 to Oracle through LinkedServers.It takes considerable amount of time while transferring datafrom SQL Server to oracle.Both these databases are at remotelocations.I am executing a Stored procedure on SQL Server and what itdoes is,It has an Insert statement which reads the data from a table inSQL Server and inserts it into the Oracle table. It is a very timeconsuming process.Vice-Versa it takes very less time for Oracle-SQLServer transfer.If anybody has a clue towards reducing the time in SQLServer-ORACLE transfer.

How To Improve Performance With A Join Between 2 Table From 2 SQL Servers

Aug 18, 2006

I am making a ASP.NET web application that involves 2 SQL Server(A & B).
I created a view in SQL server A pointing to the table in SQL Server B. I found out my application will run REALLY slow when accessing such a view. so I try to avoid using them. But in the case of 2 table joining from 2 different SQL Servers, I have no choice.
Can anyone help me with this?
Thanks!

Insert Rows With SQLServerce V3.5 Is Very Slow Can Anyone Help Insert Performance Poor

Feb 22, 2008

Hi All

I decided to change over from Microsoft Access Database file to the New SQLServerCe Compact edition. Although the reading of data from the database is greatly improved, the inserting of the new rows is extremely slow.

I was getting between 60 to 70 rows per sec using OLEDB and an Access Database but now only getting 14 to 27 rows per sec using SQLServerCe.

I have tried the below code changes and nothing seams to increase the speed, any help as I would prefer to use SQLServerCe as the database is much smaller and I€™m use to SQL Commands.

Details:
VB2008 Pro
.NET Frameworks 2.0
SQL Compact Edition V3.5

View Performance, Linked Servers, Query Specifiying Uniqueidentifier

Jul 20, 2005

Greetings,I have 3 servers all running SQL Server 2000 - 8.00.818. Lets callthem parent, child1, and child 2.On parent, I create a view called item as follows:CREATE view Item asselect * from child1.dbchild1.dbo.Item union allselect * from child2.DBChild2.dbo.ItemOn child1 and child2, I have a table "item" with a column named "id"datatype uniqueidentifier (and many other columns). There is anon-clustered index created over column "id".When I connect to the parent server and select from the viewSelect id, col1, col2, …. From item where id =‘280A33E0-5B61-4194-B242-0E184C46BB59'The query is distributed to the children "correctly" (meaning itexecutes entirely (including the where clause) on the children serverand one row is returned to the parent).However, when I select based on a list of idsSelect id, col1, col2, …. From item where id in(‘280A33E0-5B61-4194-B242-0E184C46BB59',‘376FA839-B48A-4599-BC67-25C6820FE105')the plan shows that the entire contents of both children item tables(millions of rows each) are pulled from the children to the parent,and THEN the where criteria is applied.Oddly enough, if I put the list of id's I want into a temp tableselect * from #bv1id------------------------------------280A33E0-5B61-4194-B242-0E184C46BB59376FA839-B48A-4599-BC67-25C6820FE105and thenSelect id, col1, col2, …. From item where id in (select * from #bv1)the query executes with the where criteria applied on the childrendatabases saving millions of rows being copied back to the parentserver.So, I have a hack that works (using the temp table) for this case, butI really don't understand the root cause. After reading online books,in a way I am confused why ANY of the processing is done on thechildren servers. I quote:================================================Remote Query ExecutionSQL Server attempts to delegate as much of the evaluation of adistributed query to the SQL Command Provider as possible. An SQLquery that accesses only the remote tables stored in the provider'sdata source is extracted from the original distributed query andexecuted against the provider. This reduces the number of rowsreturned from the provider and allows the provider to use its indexesin evaluating the query.Considerations that affect how much of the original distributed querygets delegated to the SQL Command Provider include:•The dialect level supported by the SQL Command ProviderSQL Server delegates operations only if they are supported by thespecific dialect level. The dialect levels from highest to lowest are:SQL Server, SQL-92 Entry level, ODBC core, and Jet. The higher thedialect level, the more operations SQL Server can delegate to theprovider.Note The SQL Server dialect level is used when the providercorresponds to a SQL Server linked server.Each dialect level is a superset of the lower levels. Therefore, if anoperation is delegated to a particular level, then Queries involvingthe following are never delegated to a provider and are always it isalso delegated to all higher levels.evaluated locally:•bit•uniqueidentifier================================================This suggests to me that any query having where criteria applied to adatatype uniqueidentifier will have the where criteria applied AFTERdata is returned from the linked server.Any ideas on the root problem, and a better solution to get the queryand all the where criteria applied on the remoted linked server?Thanks,Bernie

Problem With Linked Servers And INSERT

May 6, 2004

Hello

I have 2 linked SQL servers, trying to communicate with each other. An SP on the one server calls a function on the other to insert the data into a temporary table, but this makes the whole SP freeze. If I just call the function to view the data, it works the fine.

Here's the code:

---------------------

create table #b (type int,label varchar(100),x int,y int,so int)

declare @arg nvarchar(100)
set @arg = 'BLANKET.MaalGrupper.ID38'

declare @tsql varchar(1000)
select @tsql = 'select * from openquery( [erinyes.resultmaker.com], ''select * from blanketter.dbo.fnSelect1( ''''' + @arg + ''''' )'' )'
insert #b exec (@tsql)

drop table #b

-------------------------

I use the openquery function so I can provide the fnSelect1 function with a dynamically generated argument (@arg). If I remove the 'insert #b' part of the next to last line, it works fine. I get the same behaviour if I use an SP instead of the fnSelect1 function.

Can anybody help with this very irritating problem?

Thanks

BCP And Bulk Insert To Linked Servers

Jul 23, 2005

BCP and Bulk Insert to Linked ServersHi guys!Heres my set up:1) Im using Win2003 with MS SQL 20002) I have a linked server in SQL Server pointing to an MS Access DB.Why MS Access? Gee, I dont know. The guy who owns it refused to update hisVB app and point it to SQL Server.Anyway, I have 190,000 records in SQL Server that I wanted to dump andinsert it to MS Access.I tried to use OPENQUERY but OLE DB provider choked and wont be able tohandle that much records. Sucks!Moreover, DTS packages wont do the job. I tried it and it have the sameproblem.Now, I got one last option to go to. I EXPORTED SQL Server data to a textfile using BCP but my problem is how to IMPORT those data from the TEXTfile to my Linked Server that points to an MS Access.This is what Im trying to do:SQL Server Data ---> Text file ---> Linked Server (MS Access)bcp LinkedServerName..MSAccess_TableName in Shares1_tmp.txt -c -T -t ',' -r''SQLState = 08001, NativeError = 17Error = [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]SQL Server does notexist or access denied.SQLState = 01000, NativeError = 53Warning = [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB]ConnectionOpen(Connect()).Thank you and you guys have a nice day.--Message posted via http://www.sqlmonster.com

Why Does Bulk Insert Task Not Work From Remote Servers With Windows Authentication?

Jun 10, 2007

Using Bulk Insert Task extensively in our solution. Everything was working great till we deployed it in stage columns. The database server is different from application servers. We have ASP.NET web services driving SSIS packages on application server. After struggling thru several security issues to get this working (ended up creating an application pool with a domain account) we are now stuck with this problem. On a different note still don't understand what specific security permission is available to domain account that makes it work.

Read in some blog that SQL Server 2005 SP2 Beta had this (Bulk Insert) fixed but not in final production version. Is there a specific reason why this is so?

SSIS and the API is quite easy to work with but associated security and deployment issues are not always clear. A lot of answers seem to be coming from end users - thanks a lot to all for sharing your experiences - sadly not presented clearly in SSIS documentation.

Insert Performance

Nov 9, 2007

Hey,

I'm writing an application where I have to perform a lot of inserts/updates on a SQL Server Compact Edt. 3.1 database (up to 50.000 or even 100.000 consecutive inserts).
I'm using native C++ and OleDB. I set the command text only once for each table and I increased maximum buffer size (DBPROP_SSCE_MAXBUFFERSIZE). There are also no table indices or foreign keys.

The performance is quite well, but not good enough. I took a closer look at the MS Merge Replication and I observed a really good insert performance.

Maybe somebody can tell me some ''secrets'' how I can speed up my query performance!?

best regards
Tom

Performance Of Bulk Insert

Oct 21, 2004

Hi,
I have a database that holds an information about customers, each customer's data is holded in many referenced tables. In one stored procedure i should insert/update many customers. I have 2 options: bulk insert of all customers data in one transaction or insert each customer in separate transaction. My question is: what approach is considered to be correct, and gives better performance assuming that the number of inserted/updated customers is very large? Thank you

Bulk Insert Performance

Mar 29, 2006

I have a situation where I need to do multiple inserts into the sql mobile db at one time. I am wondering what would be the most efficient method to do this. Right now I am just doing many inserts, but the performance is lacking. I tried to wrap all the inserts into 1 sql command and process it like that, but it does not seem to want to execute. Any help would be appreciated.

Performance Insert Statements

Jan 28, 2008

Hi,

I'm using version 3.5.5386.0 of SqlServerCompact Edition for windows mobile.

My first tests indicates that an insert statement with '?' ist 20 % faster than with '@p1' parameters:

"INSERT INTO Itest(PKey,value1,value2,value3,Date1) VALUES (?,?,?,?,?)"
"INSERT INTO Itest(PKey,value1,value2,value3,Date1) VALUES (@P1,@2,@3,@P4,@P5)"

I've no explanation for that. I reported some problems with the '?' parameters in my other task http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2715685&SiteID=1
So I'm a little bit afraid to use this version.

Is there a recommandation which version to use for Inserts?

Thanks,
Stefan

Best Performance Between 2 Tables Insert?

Nov 20, 2007

Hi There

I have a table lets call it TABLE_A that has +- 100 million rows , obviously inserts into this table take some time as it has 1 clustered and 3 non clustered indexes.

I have another table lets call it TABLE_B, it is identical to TABLE_A and it holds 100,000 rows that must be inserted into TABLE_A.

As you can imagine a : INSERT INTO TABLE_A select * from TABLE_B takes alot of time.

What is the best way to speed this up? (Dopping indexes in not an option).

I know bulk insert gives the best performance, but can you bulk insert between tables ? Bulk insert in from a flat file source.

It seems redundant to write an ssis package to extract the data out of TABLE_B to file simply to bulk insert in back into the database?

So in a nutshell what is the fastest way to get the rows from TABLE_B in TABLE_A?

Thanx

BULK INSERT Performance

May 6, 2008

Currently we import some pretty large files (sometimes >1gb) using DTS into a staging table then into the active table after some processing every night. The DTS stuff (before my time) looks pretty messy when all is said and done compared to a BULK INSERT TSQL statement.

My thought is to switch to a stored procedure using BULK INSERT because it will be easier for others to maintain after me. My question is with performance. As I mentioned, our imported files can be extremely large at times and I don't want to sacrifice too much performance for readability sake. What can I do to optimize a BULK INSERT TSQL statement and how does it stand up to similar actions using DTS?

Insert Multiple Rows - Performance

Jun 18, 2008

hi,

I came across the following topic which speaks about inserting multiple rows into a table.

http://www.sqlteam.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=52980

The following is the code it concludes:
----------------------------------------------------------
INSERT INTO InstitutionManagement.dbo.b10_partC
(unitid, repyear, test, subject_area, scores,
credit_awarded, comments, recno)
select
unitid = 'data1a',
repyear = 'data1b',
test = 'data1c',
subject_area = 'data1d',
scores = 'data1e',
credit_awarded = 'data1f',
comments = 'data1g',
recno = 'data1h'
union all
select
unitid = 'data2a',
repyear = 'data2b',
test = 'data2c',
subject_area = 'data2d',
scores = 'data2e',
credit_awarded = 'data2f',
comments = 'data2g',
recno = 'data2h'
union all
select
unitid = 'data3a',
repyear = 'data3b',
test = 'data3c',
subject_area = 'data3d',
scores = 'data3e',
credit_awarded = 'data3f',
comments = 'data3g',
recno = 'data3h'
... And so on...
----------------------------------------------------------

My question is based on the performance of the above insert statement aganist Microsoft.Net SqlBulkCopy Class.

One more thing: Does the above statement gets executed as asingle statement or as multiple statements (One execution for each Select statement).

thanks

vinay

Temporary Table Insert Performance Degraded After Migration To 2005 By 50%.

Apr 11, 2007

Hi,

I have a series of queries which have doubled in the amount of time they take to execute since moving to SQL Server 2005. The queries being performance tested are utilising hardware that is very similar to that of the comparison SQL Server 2000 server. They have 6 CPUs exactly the same and we have swapped RAM around to eliminate that difference.

There are 4 parts to the query suffering performance degredation.

1. Create temporary results table

2. Create (using SELECT INTO) and populate temporary working table 1 - 212,263 rows

3. Create (using SELECT INTO) and populate temporary working table 2 - 5,102 rows

4. Insert into temp results table matches found in temp work table 1 and temp work table 2 - 382 rows

On 2000, the queries take a total of 15 secs. On 2005, they take 30 seconds. Part four of the query takes approx 17 secs on its initial run. However, if i truncate the temp results table and re-run just the last query it only takes 1 sec. Query Plan caching?

I have reviewed the forum for a solution to the problem but with no luck. Many of the solutions presented appear to relate to permanant user tables. Solutions such as UPDATE STATISTICS and recompiling stored procedures have no positive effect. When reviewing the query plans, there are very little differences. Some expected between versions right?

The following code snippet is the query from part 4.

Code Snippet

INSERT #MatchingResults

(Table1IDNo, Table2IDNo, MatchRunNo)

SELECT DISTINCT #Table2.IDNo AS Table2IDNo,

#Table1.IDNo AS Table1IDNo,

1 AS MatchRunNo

FROM #Table1

INNER JOIN #Table2

ON ( #Table2.LastName = #Table1.LastName )

AND ( #Table2.AddressDetails = #Table1.AddressDetails )

AND ( #Table2.Country = #Table1.Country )

AND ( ( #Table2.FirstName = #Table1.FirstName) OR ( #Table1.FirstName = '' ) )

AND ( ( #Table2.Title = #Table1.Title ) OR ( #Table1.Title = '' ) )

The query plan shows a hash join on both servers. I have tried removing the distinct statement and forcing a Loop Join (query hint).

I have also run SQL Profiler. The only differences there appear to be with the "SELECT StatMan" statements.

On 2000, part of the query duration is 1719 and is as follows:

Code SnippetSELECT statman([AddressDetails],[LastName],[FirstName],[Title],[Country],@PSTATMAN)
FROM (SELECT TOP 100 PERCENT [AddressDetails],[LastName],[FirstName],[Title],[Country] FROM [dbo].[#TMCT04042007101009_________________________________________________________________________________________________000000000096] WITH(READUNCOMMITTED,SAMPLE 3.675520e+001 PERCENT) ORDER BY [AddressDetails],[LastName],[FirstName],[Title],[Country]) AS _MS_UPDSTATS_TBL OPTION (BYPASS OPTIMIZER_QUEUE, MAXDOP 1)

On 2005, part of the query duration is 5188 and is as follows:

Code Snippet

SELECT StatMan([SC0], [SB0000]) FROM (SELECT TOP 100 PERCENT [SC0], step_direction([SC0]) over (order by NULL) AS [SB0000] FROM (SELECT [AddressDetails] AS [SC0] FROM [dbo].[#TMCT04042007101009_________________________________________________________________________________________________00000000000E] WITH (READUNCOMMITTED,SAMPLE 7.946877e+001 PERCENT) ) AS _MS_UPDSTATS_TBL_HELPER ORDER BY [SC0], [SB0000] ) AS _MS_UPDSTATS_TBL OPTION (MAXDOP 1)

Its clear that the sampling rate is higher. I assume this could have something to do with it. Can this be modified?

Thank-you for your help in advance..

Cheers

Tim

Sql Report Works Fine On Internal Servers - Hosed On External Servers - Need Some Help

Nov 21, 2007

I have a report that was designed using SQL Reporting Services that sits on a SQL reporting server. It's nothing too exciting, it is essentially a three page application with legal jumbo on pages 2 and 3 and applicant data in fields on page 1.

We use rectangles to force page breaks to page 2 and to page 3.

When running the report on the report server, it shows and prints fine.

When running the report from the QA website internally, it shows and prints just fine.

When running the report from the production website from a machine internally, it shows and prints just fine.

When running the report from outside of the company network, the report is jacked. It obliterates large chunks of text, crams text together, and creates blank pages.

I need help in determining where I even begin with trouble shooting this!

Development Servers, Auto-update Live Servers

Aug 21, 2001

can anyone tell me if they know of a way to automate the update process from development servers to live server, with little interference from an administrator

I have a development team that are constantly updating their databases along with their ASP code, and want to publish changes an a weekly basis. They have asked me for a way to take their new structures, tables, procedures etc, and copy them to the live servers, but NOT to interfere with existing customer data.

Funny I know – and I hate the idea btw :(

Any references, contacts, 3rd party tool recommendations welcome,

Thanx,

Darren

Linking SQL 2005 Servers To SQL 2000 Servers Problems

Sep 27, 2007

I am in the middle of a major migraton project, moving from x86 SQL 2000 to IA64 SQL 2005. I have a business need to link to several legacy servers. I have a number of problems I am trying to solve.

1) Linking a Kerberos server to a non-Kerberos server.
2) Linking x64 or IA64 servers to x86 servers.
3) Linking SQL 2005 to SQL 2000.

Two of the errors I am encountering are:
------------------------------
TCP Provider: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.
Login failed for user '(null)'. Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection.
OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "SCDC250DB" returned message "Communication link failure".
(Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 10054)
------------------------------
And
------------------------------
The OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for the linked server "SCDC250DB" reported an error. Authentication failed.
Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "SCDC250DB".
OLE DB provider "SQLCLI" for linked server "SCDC250DB" returned message "Invalid authorization specification".
(Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 7399)

If someone has worked through these problems before, I would appreciate it if you could direct me to the relevant documentation to resolve these issues.

Thanks!

Compare Performance (Execute SQL Task Insert And Data Flow Task)

Mar 12, 2008

I am using SQL 2005 SSIS. I am joining several large tables and then the move result into another table in the same database.

I would like know which method is faster:

Use Execute SQL Task to insert the result set to the target table

Use the Data Flow Task to insert the result set to the target table. (Use OLE DB source to execute SQL command and then use the SQL destination)
Could you tell me why then other is slower?

Thanks.

Extremely Poor Query Performance - Identical DBs Different Performance

Jun 23, 2006

Hello Everyone,I have a very complex performance issue with our production database.Here's the scenario. We have a production webserver server and adevelopment web server. Both are running SQL Server 2000.I encounted various performance issues with the production server with aparticular query. It would take approximately 22 seconds to return 100rows, thats about 0.22 seconds per row. Note: I ran the query in singleuser mode. So I tested the query on the Development server by taking abackup (.dmp) of the database and moving it onto the dev server. I ranthe same query and found that it ran in less than a second.I took a look at the query execution plan and I found that they we'rethe exact same in both cases.Then I took a look at the various index's, and again I found nodifferences in the table indices.If both databases are identical, I'm assumeing that the issue is relatedto some external hardware issue like: disk space, memory etc. Or couldit be OS software related issues, like service packs, SQL Serverconfiguations etc.Here's what I've done to rule out some obvious hardware issues on theprod server:1. Moved all extraneous files to a secondary harddrive to free up spaceon the primary harddrive. There is 55gb's of free space on the disk.2. Applied SQL Server SP4 service packs3. Defragmented the primary harddrive4. Applied all Windows Server 2003 updatesHere is the prod servers system specs:2x Intel Xeon 2.67GHZTotal Physical Memory 2GB, Available Physical Memory 815MBWindows Server 2003 SE /w SP1Here is the dev serers system specs:2x Intel Xeon 2.80GHz2GB DDR2-SDRAMWindows Server 2003 SE /w SP1I'm not sure what else to do, the query performance is an order ofmagnitude difference and I can't explain it. To me its is a hardware oroperating system related issue.Any Ideas would help me greatly!Thanks,Brian T*** Sent via Developersdex http://www.developersdex.com ***

Can I Insert/Update Large Text Field To Database Without Bulk Insert?

Nov 14, 2007

I have a web form with a text field that needs to take in as much as the user decides to type and insert it into an nvarchar(max) field in the database behind.  I've tried using the new .write() method in my update statement, but it cuts off the text after a while.  Is there a way to insert/update in SQL 2005 this without resorting to Bulk Insert? It bloats the transaction log and turning the logging off requires a call to sp_dboptions (or a straight-up ALTER DATABASE), which I'd like to avoid if I can.

Strange Problem: SQL Insert Statement Does Not Insert All The Fields Into Table From Asp.net C# Webpage

Apr 21, 2008

An insert statement was not inserting all the data into a table. Found it very strange as the other fields in the row were inserted. I ran SQL profiler and found that sql statement had all the fields in the insert statement but some of the fields were not inserted. Below is the sql statement which is created dyanmically by a asp.net C# class. The columns which are not inserted are 'totaltax' and 'totalamount' ...while the 'shipto_name' etc...were inserted.there were not errors thrown. The sql from the code cannot be shown here as it is dynamically built referencing C# class files.It works fine on another test database which uses the same dlls. The only difference i found was the difference in date formats..@totalamount=1625.62,@totaltax=125.62are not inserted into the database.Below is the statement copied from SQL profiler.exec sp_executesql N'INSERT INTO salesorder(billto_city, billto_country, billto_line1, billto_line2, billto_name,billto_postalcode, billto_stateorprovince, billto_telephone, contactid, CreatedOn, customerid, customeridtype,DeletionStateCode, discountamount, discountpercentage, ModifiedOn, name, ordernumber,pricelevelid, salesorderId, shipto_city, shipto_country,shipto_line1, shipto_line2, shipto_name, shipto_postalcode, shipto_stateorprovince,shipto_telephone, StateCode, submitdate, totalamount,totallineitemamount, totaltax ) VALUES(@billto_city, @billto_country, @billto_line1, @billto_line2,@billto_name, @billto_postalcode, @billto_stateorprovince, @billto_telephone, @contactid, @CreatedOn, @customerid,@customeridtype, @DeletionStateCode, @discountamount,@discountpercentage, @ModifiedOn, @name, @ordernumber, @pricelevelid, @salesorderId,@shipto_city, @shipto_country, @shipto_line1, @shipto_line2,@shipto_name, @shipto_postalcode, @shipto_stateorprovince, @shipto_telephone,@StateCode, @submitdate, @totalamount, @totallineitemamount, @totaltax)',N'@billto_city nvarchar(8),@billto_country nvarchar(13),@billto_line1 nvarchar(3),@billto_line2 nvarchar(4),@billto_name nvarchar(15),@billto_postalcode nvarchar(5),@billto_stateorprovince nvarchar(8),@billto_telephone nvarchar(3),@contactid uniqueidentifier,@CreatedOn datetime,@customerid uniqueidentifier,@customeridtype int,@DeletionStateCode int,@discountamount decimal(1,0),@discountpercentage decimal(1,0),@ModifiedOn datetime,@name nvarchar(33),@ordernumber nvarchar(18),@pricelevelid uniqueidentifier,@salesorderId uniqueidentifier,@shipto_city nvarchar(8),@shipto_country nvarchar(13),@shipto_line1 nvarchar(3),@shipto_line2 nvarchar(4),@shipto_name nvarchar(15),@shipto_postalcode nvarchar(5),@shipto_stateorprovince nvarchar(8),@shipto_telephone nvarchar(3),@StateCode int,@submitdate datetime,@totalamount decimal(6,2),@totallineitemamount decimal(6,2),@totaltax decimal(5,2)',@billto_city=N'New York',@billto_country=N'United States',@billto_line1=N'454',@billto_line2=N'Road',@billto_name=N'Hillary Clinton',@billto_postalcode=N'10001',@billto_stateorprovince=N'New York',@billto_telephone=N'124',@contactid='8DAFE298-3A25-42EE-B208-0B79DE653B61',@CreatedOn=''2008-04-18 13:37:12:013'',@customerid='8DAFE298-3A25-42EE-B208-0B79DE653B61',@customeridtype=2,@DeletionStateCode=0,@discountamount=0,@discountpercentage=0,@ModifiedOn=''2008-04-18 13:37:12:013'',@name=N'E-Commerce Order (Before billing)',@ordernumber=N'BRKV-CC-OKRW5764YS',@pricelevelid='B74DB28B-AA8F-DC11-B289-000423B63B71',@salesorderId='9CD0E11A-5A6D-4584-BC3E-4292EBA6ED24',@shipto_city=N'New York',@shipto_country=N'United States',@shipto_line1=N'454',@shipto_line2=N'Road',@shipto_name=N'Hillary Clinton',@shipto_postalcode=N'10001',@shipto_stateorprovince=N'New York',@shipto_telephone=N'124',@StateCode=0,@submitdate=''2008-04-18 14:37:10:140'',@totalamount=1625.62,@totallineitemamount=1500.00,@totaltax=125.62

Cannot INSERT Data To 3 Tables Linked With Relationship (INSERT Statement Conflicted With The FOREIGN KEY Constraint Error)

Apr 9, 2007

Hello
 I have a problem with setting relations properly when inserting data using adonet. Already have searched for a solutions, still not finding a mistake...
Here's the sql management studio diagram :

 and here goes the  code1 DataSet ds = new DataSet();
2
3 SqlDataAdapter myCommand1 = new SqlDataAdapter("select * from SurveyTemplate", myConnection);
4 SqlCommandBuilder cb = new SqlCommandBuilder(myCommand1);
5 myCommand1.FillSchema(ds, SchemaType.Source);
6 DataTable pTable = ds.Tables["Table"];
7 pTable.TableName = "SurveyTemplate";
8 myCommand1.InsertCommand = cb.GetInsertCommand();
9 myCommand1.InsertCommand.Connection = myConnection;
10
11 SqlDataAdapter myCommand2 = new SqlDataAdapter("select * from Question", myConnection);
12 cb = new SqlCommandBuilder(myCommand2);
13 myCommand2.FillSchema(ds, SchemaType.Source);
14 pTable = ds.Tables["Table"];
15 pTable.TableName = "Question";
16 myCommand2.InsertCommand = cb.GetInsertCommand();
17 myCommand2.InsertCommand.Connection = myConnection;
18
19 SqlDataAdapter myCommand3 = new SqlDataAdapter("select * from Possible_Answer", myConnection);
20 cb = new SqlCommandBuilder(myCommand3);
21 myCommand3.FillSchema(ds, SchemaType.Source);
22 pTable = ds.Tables["Table"];
23 pTable.TableName = "Possible_Answer";
24 myCommand3.InsertCommand = cb.GetInsertCommand();
25 myCommand3.InsertCommand.Connection = myConnection;
26
27 ds.Relations.Add(new DataRelation("FK_Question_SurveyTemplate", ds.Tables["SurveyTemplate"].Columns["id"], ds.Tables["Question"].Columns["surveyTemplateID"]));
28 ds.Relations.Add(new DataRelation("FK_Possible_Answer_Question", ds.Tables["Question"].Columns["id"], ds.Tables["Possible_Answer"].Columns["questionID"]));
29
30 DataRow dr = ds.Tables["SurveyTemplate"].NewRow();
31 dr["name"] = o[0];
32 dr["description"] = o[1];
33 dr["active"] = 1;
34 ds.Tables["SurveyTemplate"].Rows.Add(dr);
35
36 DataRow dr1 = ds.Tables["Question"].NewRow();
37 dr1["questionIndex"] = 1;
38 dr1["questionContent"] = "q1";
39 dr1.SetParentRow(dr);
40 ds.Tables["Question"].Rows.Add(dr1);
41
42 DataRow dr2 = ds.Tables["Possible_Answer"].NewRow();
43 dr2["answerIndex"] = 1;
44 dr2["answerContent"] = "a11";
45 dr2.SetParentRow(dr1);
46 ds.Tables["Possible_Answer"].Rows.Add(dr2);
47
48 dr1 = ds.Tables["Question"].NewRow();
49 dr1["questionIndex"] = 2;
50 dr1["questionContent"] = "q2";
51 dr1.SetParentRow(dr);
52 ds.Tables["Question"].Rows.Add(dr1);
53
54 dr2 = ds.Tables["Possible_Answer"].NewRow();
55 dr2["answerIndex"] = 1;
56 dr2["answerContent"] = "a21";
57 dr2.SetParentRow(dr1);
58 ds.Tables["Possible_Answer"].Rows.Add(dr2);
59
60 dr2 = ds.Tables["Possible_Answer"].NewRow();
61 dr2["answerIndex"] = 2;
62 dr2["answerContent"] = "a22";
63 dr2.SetParentRow(dr1);
64 ds.Tables["Possible_Answer"].Rows.Add(dr2);
65
66 myCommand1.Update(ds,"SurveyTemplate");
67 myCommand2.Update(ds, "Question");
68 myCommand3.Update(ds, "Possible_Answer");
69 ds.AcceptChanges();
70

and that causes (at line 67):"The INSERT statement conflicted with the FOREIGN KEY constraint
"FK_Question_SurveyTemplate". The conflict occurred in database
"ankietyzacja", table "dbo.SurveyTemplate", column
'id'.
The statement has been terminated.
