Insert Statement That Pulls Column Data From Another Table?

hi.
i cant get this quite right.
i have a table and i need to insert one column with data from another table. it goes something like this (although i know this is wrong, just here for a visual explaination) :

so, list_email needs the email address from the Users
table. i tried messing around with inner joins but, well,

For some reason, I'm getting this error, even without the DBCC Check:

The very first insert fails...it was working fine before:

I have been provided with a table where one of the columns is of TimeStamp data type. My question is how to insert and update data in this column through my SQL Statement? When I run my SQL statement, it gives me an error with this column name in the error.

Hi, I am having problem in bulk update of a sql server table haning identity column from a datatable( has no identity column) using sqlbulkcopy. I tried several approaches, but it does not show any error nor is the table getting updated. But the identity value seems to getting increased every time. thanks. varun
An insert statement was not inserting all the data into a table. Found it very strange as the other fields in the row were inserted. I ran SQL profiler and found that sql statement had all the fields in the insert statement but some of the fields were not inserted. Below is the sql statement which is created dyanmically by a asp.net C# class. The columns which are not inserted are 'totaltax' and 'totalamount' ...while the 'shipto_name' etc...were inserted.there were not errors thrown. The sql from the code cannot be shown here as it is dynamically built referencing C# class files.It works fine on another test database which uses the same dlls. however, it fails when i try to insert the value 0000-00-00 00:00:00. ie., the following insert statement fails
INSERT INTO TEST VALUES('0000-00-00 00:00:00')
The error thrown is,

I am writing a query to return some production data. Basically i need to insert either 1 or 2 rows into a Table variable based on a decision as to does the production part make 1 or 2 items ( The Raw data does not allow for this it comes from a look up in my database)
I can retrieve all the source data i need easily but when i come to insert it into the table variable i need to insert 1 record if its a single part or 2 records if its a twin part. I know could use a cursor but im sure there has to be an easier way !

Is there a way to avoid entering column names in the excel template for me to create an excel file froma dynamic excel using openrowset. I have teh following code but it works fien when column names are given ahead of time. If I remove the column names from the template and just to Select * from the table and Select * from sheet1 then it tells me that column names donot match. Hi there, I have a stored procedure which i pass a number of parameters into. One of these parameters is staffNo (only passed this in because i couldn't execute the query without it). The thing is this field can be Null, but when trying to pass null into it it comes up with an Foreign Key conflict. staffNo is a foreign key within the table i'm inserting the data into. This is the error i get: "INSERT statement conflicted with COLUMN FOREIGN KEY constraint 'PropStaffFK'. The conflict occurred in database 'DewMountain', table 'TblStaff', column 'staffNo'. The statement has been terminated. The 'PropertyAdvert' procedure attempted to return a status of NULL, which is not allowed. A status of 0 will be returned instead. "

I would like to provide the names of columns in an insert statement from a schema table, so that when running through a number of Bus Rule checks I can reference the schema table and only maintain the columns in the schema table rather than maintain named columns in multiple insert statements. So my query for one check looks like below. I'm using dynamic sql to execute the insert statement. My question is, is there a better way or different way to do this without using dynamic sql? Ie, Is there a way that I can use the columns parameter like this instead?

I receive this message when I try to run any report. The reportserver and reportservertempdb databases were upgraded using backup/restore from SQL2000 to SQL2005 on a separate server which is running RS2005 . Please help. Thanks
Hi, I was wondering how I can complete a column (which doesnt have an input one) with data. For example:
I have a sql query which bring data of 3 columns
ID | FISRT NAME | LAST NAME 1 MIKE MORGAN 2 SARA JOHANES
So, I will insert that data in a FLAT FILE CONNECTION MANAGER, which I configured with 3 columns and I did the corresponding mapping in the FLAT FILE DESTINTATION.
Now, If I add one more column in the FLAT FILE CONNECTION MANAGER, I will not have it mapped to a input one, obviously. So, what I need is to add one more column to the flat file destination and complete it with zeros values in it.
Probably I can solve this part by introducing a DERIVED COLUMN and there I can configure the zeros that I want to add to the column. But I'm not sure if I can do that without having a input column. So, the question will be, how can I add one column to a flat file which doesnt have a input and introduce any value that I want to it? Hope I was clear Thanks for your help.

On my aspx page I have a basic sqldatasource and gridview - both were set up using the wizards. The SQL Server 2000 database table that the sqldatasource is querying has some fields in it that are set to not allow nulls, however, the gridview control is not displaying all of the fields in the table - including some of the non-null fields. My problem is, when I run an insert on the table from my aspx page, I get an error that says: "Cannot insert the value NULL into column 'ColumnName', table 'TableName'; column does not allow nulls. INSERT fails. The statement has been terminated." The 'ColumnName', as you may have guessed, is one of the aforementioned columns that doesn't allow nulls, but isn't in the GridView. How can I do an insert on this table without messing with the non-null fields. Those fields are relevant to the purposes of the gridview, so I don't want to display them, let alone allow editing of them. Any suggestions on my options would be greatly appreciated! You can see - User select 3 Menu, which is the Menu Id is 1, 4, 10.If the Parent Id for Menu is 0, there is 1 record only to insert. If the Parent Id for Menu != 0, we've to make sure the Insert statement will insert the Parent Menu automatically
Based on Photo Above, there's 3 Menu is selected. But, in back-end - Insert statement will insert 4 record. Please see Menu Id = 10. The Parent Id = 9. So, we need to insert Menu Id = 9 automatically into myInsertedMenu table

while inserting in column Day_No in RPT_Invoice_Shipped table, I have to use formula (Transaction_Date-start_date+1) where Transaction_Date from STG_Shipped_Invoiced and start_date from Cal_date table. I was using datepart (mm, Transaction_Date) so it gives month_no, and this month_no we can join with month_no of Cal_date table and fetch start_date from Cal_date table, so that we can use start_date for formula (Transaction_Date-start_date+1).
But I am getting difficulty to arrange this in above query. how to achieve this?

On my site users can register using ASP Membership Create user Wizard control. I am also using the wizard control to design a simple question and answer form that logged in users have access to. it has 2 questions including a text box for Q1 and dropdown list for Q2. anyone can help me? i using sp to select a select statement from a join table. due to the requirement, i need to group the data into monthly/weekly basic.
so i already collect the data for the month and use the case to make a new compute column in the selete statement call weekGroup. this is just a string showing "week 1", "week 2" .... "week 5".
so now i want to group the weekgroup and disply the average mark. so i need to insert all the record from the select statement into the temporary table and then use 2nd select statement to collect the new data in 5 record only. may i know how to make this posible?

I am unable to get correct statement with above function.
I have two tables for insertion in one transaction scope. Table one have 10 rows. After first table insert statement (not yet committed) if I run select on first table from other session, it holds table until my insert is committed or rolled back and from (SSMS), it display 10 rows and then wait for transaction scope till finished. My question is do I need to use no lock hint in this situation. Or there is something wrong with isolation level. One saying that in this situation table should not hols select while insert is in transaction scope.
Hello everyone, I'm still quite new ASP.net, Visual Web Developer 2008, and SQL. It has been a fun learning experience so far. Anyways, the site I am designing needs to allow its users to extensively search several different databases (MS SQL databases). I have followed many of the tutorials and have found it rather easy to add table adapters, gridviews and other data features that use basic SQL Select statements. One of the major database tables contains several columns which I would like to include as a search parameters from a drop down list. I was wondering if there is any way I can write a select which will pass a variable to be used as a column name to the statement? For example: SELECT DATE, GAME, EXACT, @COLNAMEFROM HistoryWHERE @COLNAME = @SOMEVARIABLE This obviously doesnt work, but thats the gist of what I want to do. Any suggestions? I need this to be simple as possible, Most everything I'm doing is done through the visual design mode. Im still slow to learn C# and apply it in the codebehind files unless I have very detailed step by step instuctions. Thanks Scott
