Inserting 1 Row And Getting A Message That Two Rows Were Inserted.

Oct 5, 2007

Why does this code tell me that I inserted 2 rows when I really only inserted one? I am using SQL server 2005 Express. I can open up the table and there is only one record in it.
Dim InsertSQL As String = "INSERT INTO dbCG_Disposition ( BouleID, UserName, CG_PFLocation ) VALUES ( @BouleID, @UserName, @CG_PFLocation )"Dim Status As Label = lblStatus
Dim ConnectionString As String = WebConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings("HTALNBulk").ConnectionString

Dim con As New SqlConnection(ConnectionString)
Dim cmd As New SqlCommand(InsertSQL, con)

cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("BouleID", BouleID)
cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("UserName", UserID)
cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("CG_PFLocation", CG_PFLocation)

Dim added As Integer = 0
Try
con.Open()
added = cmd.ExecuteNonQuery()
Status.Text &= added.ToString() & " records inserted into CG Process Flow Inventory, Located in Boule_Storage."
Catch ex As Exception
Status.Text &= "Error adding to inventory. "
Status.Text &= ex.Message.ToString()
Finally
con.Close()
End Try

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks

Inserted Table When Inserting

Mar 10, 2004

Hi,

Now thanks to you good folks on here, I have recently found out that when inserting data into table, there is a system table which can be queried with triggers - specifically called "Inserted".

What I am wondering is what are the limitations of what I can do with the data in this table?
I know I can query it from within the trigger, but can I update data specifically in this table before it is inserted?
(ie IF field1 FROM inserted = 'blah' UPDATE inserted SET field2 = 'something')

If so is there anything that I need to look out for? Concerns? Etc?

Thanks in advance for your help

Cheers

Help! Trigger Using "inserted" Not Inserting Some Records.

Oct 10, 2001

Hello all,

I really need your help now, and I know I can always count on this group for tough answers to tough questions. OK, here's my dilemma. I have my trigger, which upon a record being inserted into db1.table1, inserts the same record into db2.table2 (SQL 7 db on the same server). What's happening is only a few of the fields are getting over there, but most are ending up NULL or 0. Everything besides the following records are inserting into the other database table properly:

EventName
EventStatusID
NumberofDays
NumberofStores
PreferredDate1
PleaseContactFlag
EventStoreSelection
EventClusterID

Note: The following fields have their Default Value set to (0)
SystemID
EventStatusID
Coop
NewProductFlag
TVSupportFlag
RadioSupportFlag
FSISupportFlag
RollbackPricing
PleaseContactFlag

Default Value set to (1):
KitInformationID

Here is the trigger:

Inserting New Row, Need To Grab Key From Another Table Thats Just Inserted

Oct 11, 2004

i have 2 tables right now, po and notes...

the notes table contain the note_id and notetext, so example of a row would be:
1 this is the note for the first row
2 this is the note for computer parts

etc..

the po table has item info, description, po_id, and note_id, heres an example:

po_id item desc note_id
1 215-33 computer parts 2

the problem is, is there a way where say i insert the note row into the notes table first and then get the note_id of that, so that i can then insert the row into the po table which includes the note_id from the notes table?

would i have to use two separate inserts or can i use one? i was going to just insert the notes row first, and then use a query using the LIKE() function on the note text to get the note_id, but some notes may be the same as others, so the note_id wouldn't be the correct one :( and i think just getting the last row of the notes table would be bad too incase someone happens to insert a row into that table at the same time

any ideas please?

thanks!

Fetch Only Inserted And Updated Rows From Source

Nov 29, 2007

Hi,
I am trying to create a SSIS package, which will extract data from a SQL server view and populate the data in our local SQL server database tables. My objective is to get the data from the view such that only inserted and updated rows are fetched from the view.
Note: the view does not expose any updated date type of column thru which I can check. So I guess I have to compare each and every field with my destination table row's fields.

I would appreciate any suggestions on how to approach the problem.
Thanks in advance.

Rows Not Being Inserted Regularly Into Database Table

Mar 28, 2007

Hello All,

Doe anyone know if any limitations with SQL Server Express may be causing this?

I have an application (a web service hosted on my local PC) that parses an InfoPath form and submits the data to a database (SQL Server Express). The problem I'm have is that new records are not always inserted into the database when I submit. There is an autoincrement ID field and I observed that every other record was successfully inserted (a day ago) and today I observed that the records were inserted intermittently. However, when I run the same application on a laptop, the records are inserted each time.

I posted the associated code on the Data Access forum but it occurred to me that it may be because of the nature of SQL Server Express.Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Transact SQL :: Get Only Newly Inserted Rows By Datetime Column?

3,4 are the rows i have inserted now , you can see by date, likewise i have 100,000 rows(old and new combination) and now the data from excel to TableA can be imported/exported daily , hourly, weekly basis.

Now i want to find out only the rows which are imported to tableA today, or hours back, or yesterday .....

the reason is ,

Step1:get data from excel and import to tableA( this is a manual Step) and i know when the data is inserted with exact date and time.

Step2: get newly inserted rows from TableA and pass them as Parameters in Stored Procedure.( i may run step 2 after 1 hour, or after 1 day or after 1 week ,but i want only rows that are inserted )

I tried with using where Datecreated, but did work.

Order Of Rows In The Inserted And Deleted Psuedo Tables

Aug 15, 2007

I have a table that sometimes has modifications to column(s) comprising the primary key [usually "end_date"]. I need to audit changes on this table, and naturally, turned to after triggers.

The problem is that for updates, when the primary key composition changes, I'm not able to relate/join using the primary key - obviously, it no longer matches across INSERTED and DELETED. Now, for a single row update, it's easy to check for updates on PK columns and then deduce what changes were made...

So the real question is: are rows in INSERTED and DELETED always in matching order (1st row in INSERTED corresponds to the 1st row in DELETED...)?

I don't want to put a surrogate key (GUID nor IDENTITY) on the base table if at all possible. INSERT... SELECT from the inserted/deleted tables into a temp table with identity column is fine, and is what I'm currently doing; I would like MVP or product engineer level confirmation that my ordering assumption is correct.

Testing using an identity surrogate key on base table, and selecting from the Ins/del tables, and the temp tables without an order by clause seems to always return in proper order (proper for my purposes). I've tested under SQL 2005 RTM, SP1, SP2, and SP2 "3152".

FYI, I've lost the debate that such auditing is better handled by the application, not the database server...

Aside: why doesn't the ROW_NUMBER() function allow an empty OVER( ORDER BY() ) clause? Will SQL ever expose an internal row_id, at least in the pseudo tables, so we can work around this situation?

Thanks
Mike

Inserting Rows

Dec 14, 2007

I have an item table (#Codes) which contains itemIDs, some of which are always used in a subsequent data table (#Data) to hold information about a case+scearnio. These item rows have a standarditem value = 1. Rows in the item table which may be included in the subsequent data table (#Data), but not for every single case+scearnio, are considered nonstandard rows and therefore have a standarditem value = 0. I have been trying to write some code that automatically inserts rows from #Codes which have standarditem = 1 into #Data for each of the caseID+scenarioIDs in #Cases but have not figured it out yet. See "desired result" below to see exactly the output I'm trying to achieve.

Also, is there a way to insert the standarditem = 1 rows from #Codes into #Data when new caseID+scenarioID rows are added to #Cases? Ultimately, I'd like to either create a button for the user to click in the Access interface that inserts these rows when clicked OR when the user enters a new caseID+scenarioID in #Cases the rows just automatically appear for the new case row. This way, the rows will already have the caseID, scenarioID & itemID fields already populated and all the user will have to do is enter the item value and be able to manually add standarditem = 0 rows and their values if needed.

Code Block

create table #Codes (itemID nvarchar(2), standarditem int)
insert into #Codes values (1,1)
insert into #Codes values (2,0)
insert into #Codes values (3,1)
insert into #Codes values (4,1)
insert into #Codes values (5,0)

create table #Cases (caseID nvarchar(5), scenarioID nvarchar(15), createdate datetime)
insert into #Cases values (823, 1, '20071210')
insert into #Cases values (823, 2, '20071211')
insert into #Cases values (824, 1, '20071213')

create table #Data (caseID nvarchar(5), scenarioID nvarchar(15), itemID nvarchar(2), itemvalue decimal (18,0))

data in #Codes:
itemID standarditem
1 1
2 0
3 1
4 1
5 0

data in #Cases:
caseID scenarioID createdate
823 1 2007-12-10 00:00:00.000
823 2 2007-12-11 00:00:00.000
824 1 2007-12-13 00:00:00.000

desired result in #Data:
caseID scenarioID itemID itemvalue
823 1 1 <null>
823 1 3 <null>
823 1 4 <null>
823 2 1 <null>
823 2 3 <null>
823 2 4 <null>
824 1 1 <null>
824 1 3 <null>
824 1 4 <null>

I have a survey page. There are 9 parts with each part ment for an individual person. Each part has 8 questions, and each part has the same 8 questions

The questions are answered using one of the answers in a drop down box.

So when the surveyer clicks submit, all the 9 parts should be entered into the table.

If this is confusing, I have the form up on the Internet at...

I can insert one part no problem, (when I reduce the form to only 1 part) but i need to insert all of the 9 parts simultaneously. I reckon its some sort of for loop but if u could help me out i would appreciate it!
