suppliers (Supplier.sup_mtdpur) current balance and warehouse (warehouse.WHS_ MTD_SALE).
Such is done currently in the front end using VB, but the process is very slow hence I need
help to write batch update in back end using mssql. You help is highly appreciated.
Tables structure is as follows:

Moving From Mssql To Postgres, Advice Needed

Aug 26, 2006

We have a couple of MS SQL Server 2000/2005 databases with a bunch of..NET clients written in C#, but may want to replace the dbserver withpostgres instead. The clients will still run on Windows, hopefully withas few changes as possible. We don't have any stored procedures or triggers, so all we need to portare the tables/index definitions. What are the most common issues/problems people run into on the clientside? My guesses are stuff like- identity columns- transaction handling(autocommited vs. implicit)- date and datetime- general error handling and error codesAnything else?I've googled for migration guides and howto's, but without success.Pointers to such are appreciated.Boa

Problem With Inserting Or Updating Dates In Mssql 2000

Apr 12, 2006

Hello.I've read many topics about this problem but i couldn't figure it out.I use form where user must insert 2 dates  using texboxes.-One is required and other is optional.Sql 2000 is inserting either '20061105' or '2006.11.05' on insert update but select query returns 05.11.2006 on my report. Question 1.How do I insert or update dates from my form where date is entered dd.mm.yyyy to sql 2000 table?question 2. What to do if user left optional texbox date empty.I'm using SP and function with arguments (byval texbox1.text as date, byval texbox2.text as date)and parameters @date1, sqldbtype date =texbox1.text

Inserting And Retriving Datetime Field In Database MSSQL 2000

Jan 10, 2006

Hi, Assume I have a table name "myTime". This table is simply only have 1 (one) DATETIME field "MyTestTime" (also serve as a primary number).Table MyTime- MyTestTime : SQLTYPE DATETIMETo insert a new row into this field, I simply wrote :SqlCommand sqlCommand = new SqlCommand("insert into MyTime values('2006-01-09')", sqlConnection);
I got the value of "2006-01-09" from a textbox or other relevan control.I realize when I try to use "SELECT * FROM MyTime" statement, MSSQL server 2000 automatically convert my date value from "2006-01-09" to "01/09/2006" (from YYYY-MM-DD to MM/DD/YYYY). I don't know why this one must be converted to MM/DD/YYYY automatically (I believe this behavior is depend on some "setting option" in my MSSQL server - but I don't know which one). The challenge is :In my country, the actual date format is like German Date format (DD-MM-YYY). Well I know this is only "Customization" problem. But how insert datetime value given from sql query to a datetime variable?// Connect to database, make a query, get the datareader result, and bla bla blaDateTime aDateTime = new DateTime;aDateTime = Convert.ToDateTime(myDataReader["PostDate"].ToString());// close connectionMy question isHow can I make sure that aDateTime's day is 09 not 01. How my program know that 09 is day not month. I can't use string.split() method because it's possible that my database setting will change from "mm-dd-yyyy" to "dd-mm-yyyy"thanks

Creating Index In MSSQL 2000 From MSSQL 2005

Mar 24, 2008

Hi,

I am a bit new to the MSSQL server. In our application, we use so many SQL queries. To imporve the performance, we used the Database enigine Tuning tool to create the indexes. The older version of the application supports MSSQL 2000 also. To re-create these new indexes, I have an issue in running these "CREATE INDEX" commands as the statements generated for index creation are done in MSSQL 2005. The statements include "INCLUDES" keyword which is supported in MSSQL 2005 but not in MSSQL 2000.

Ex:-

CREATE INDEX IND_001_PPM_PA ON PPM_PROCESS_ACTIVITY

(ACTIVITY_NAME ASC, PROCESS_NAME ASC, START_TIME ASC, ISMONITORED ASC)

INCLUDE

(INSTANCE_ID, ACTIVITY_TYPE, STATUS, END_TIME, ORGANIZATION);

Any help in creating such indexes in 2000 version is welcome.

Thanks,
Suresh.

Migration MSSQL 2000 32-bit To MSSQL 2005 64-bit

Nov 17, 2007

I've been tasked to move our production databases on MSSQL 2000 to 2005. I've supported MSSQL since version 6.5 and performed migrations to successor versions.

Current Environment is MSSQL 2000 32-bit with current Service Packs.

I've performed mock migrations on Test servers upgrading all Production instances simultaneously from MSSQL 2000 to 2005 32-bit. The Test environment is identical to Production minus server name, IP etc. Also I have a separate server with MSSQL 2005 installed where I use the DETACH / ATTACH and BACKUP / RESTORE method for migration / acceptance testing. There are approximately 30 databases totaling 70 GB. This has gone as expected and fairly successful. Vendors have been coordinated with to update code and staff for acceptance testing.

I'd prefer going directly to MSSQL 2005 64-bit instead if possible due to memory benefits etc. This is where I'd like some feedback prior to borrowing a 64-bit server for testing.

Upgrade options:

1. Is it better to migrate from MSSQL 2000 32-bit to 2005 64-bit via:
a. DETACH / ATTACH
b. BACKUP / RESTORE
c. Is one method more advantageous relating to the end result?
2. Regarding XP clients, have issues been experienced with the default SQL Server driver or is an alternate recommended for XP clients to connect to a MSSQL 64-bit server databases?
3. If you have performed this migration and have relevant experience please pass them along.

Deploying MSSQL 2005 Express DB To MSSQL 2005 WKGP Errors

Sep 29, 2006

DB is developed on local computer with MSSQL 2005 Express. My host is on MSSQL 2005 workgroup. Are they compatible, because I am getting errors? Is my approach wrong?

I have tried several approaches.

A) I created a backup of database on my local, then placed a copy on the server. Then I tried to restore through Server Management Studio. I get this error.

TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio

------------------------------

An exception occurred while executing a Transact-SQL statement or batch. (Microsoft.SqlServer.ConnectionInfo)

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

The backed-up database has on-disk structure version 611. The server supports version 539 and cannot restore or upgrade this database.

B: I also have tried copying the database. I put it in the same path as the other databases that can be read with server management studio on the server. Then, tried to get to it through server managements studio and it did not appear. So I tried to attach it. Then I received this error:

If it's not empty I want to add some text to my selection query: AND IsMale=paramvalueHere's the SP so far:ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[spFindUsersAdvanced] --declare parameters here@IsMale bitASBEGIN -- SET NOCOUNT ON added to prevent extra result sets from -- interfering with SELECT statements. SET NOCOUNT ON;   SELECT DISTINCT BirthDate,IsMale, FROM aspnet_Users INNER JOIN tblUserData ON aspnet_Users.UserId = tblUserData.UserID WHERE tblUserData.Username<>''IF @IsMale THENBEGIN  AND IsMale='True'ENDELSEBEGIN  AND IsMale='False'ENDEND IFEND1. Help Needed

Oct 30, 2007

Hi all,I am trying to write a stored procedure, which has two insert statements.the first insert statement, is simple which inserts data into a table and returns the primary key for the new row added. using this primary key, i am writing another insert statement, which passes a list of elements which would be then entered into another table, with the primary key of the first table. Is this possible to do in a single stored procedure? I have implemented this using two different sp, but am wondering if it can be done other way?thanks for your help!

SQL Help Needed.......

Mar 25, 2004

Access 97.................

I'm trying to construct the following SQL statement but am missing something somewhere.

I get a syntax error with the 1st FROM highlighted.

If i construct a query out of the bit that works and then construct a query on that query then i can get it to work no problem but how to mimic that in SQL ? I can't simply view the SQL of the queries because the query names replace the SQL statements.

I'm trying to SUM the 5 volumes that get returned by the TOP 5 SQL statement. The VotingUniverse_TotalVolumeByType query returns the TotalVolume which will enable me to divide the SUMmed 5 volumes by the TotalVolume to obtain a %age.

SELECT
Type,
Sum(Volume) AS Volume,
TotalVolume
FROM
>>>>>>>>>>this following bit works............
(SELECT TOP 5
VotingUniverse_TopFirmsVolumeByType.Type,
VotingUniverse_TopFirmsVolumeByType.Volume
FROM
VotingUniverse_TopFirmsVolumeByType
WHERE
(((VotingUniverse_TopFirmsVolumeByType.Volume)
In (SELECT TOP 5 VotingUniverse_TopFirmsVolumeByType.Volume
FROM
VotingUniverse_TopFirmsVolumeByType
ORDER BY Volume DESC)))
ORDER BY
VotingUniverse_TopFirmsVolumeByType.Volume;)
>>>>>>>>>>>end of bit that works
INNER JOIN
VotingUniverse_TotalVolumeByType
ON
Type = VotingUniverse_TotalVolumeByType.Type
GROUP BY
Type,
TotalVolume;

hope this makes sense to someone anyway

thanks

Help Needed!!!

Feb 22, 2001

Hi everyone.

We are running Sql 6.5 sp5 on a Pentium II 350 Mhz with 512 Mb. RAM, 1 ScSi 4 Gb hd, one 8Gb ScSi hd and 2 IDE hd (13,6 Gb and 8Gb) computer running windows NT 4.0 sp 6 without any problems.
Now have bought a new computer. The new one is a Pentium III 733 Mhz 512 Mb Ram with 2 ScSi ultra wide 2 18Gb each and one 40 Gb Ide Hd. We have installed windows NT 4.0 sp 6 and Sql 6.5 sp 5. We have restored our database to make some tests to it. The database is 7 Gb big.
The results of our test are that the old computer is between 20% and 30% faster than the new one when doing sql instructions and using the database even knowing that the hd´s of the new computers are 4 times faster than the old ones.

Would you please give us any help or clue that would make the new computer go faster?
We know that upgrading to sql 7 will work but we need first to make this computer work better with the 6.5.
Thank you.

DTS Help Needed!

Oct 12, 2004

I often use DTS to move databases between the servers. When you choose "Transform" data and “Column Mappings and Transformation” window opens, the default option is “Append rows to destination table”.
Question: Is there a way to change the default option to “Delete rows in destination table”, so I wouldn’t have to go thru the transformation of dozens of tables every time I move databases around.

P.S. I know that I can save DTS package with my settings and use it later. The problem is that every time it might be different database or objects might change. So, it is not a solution for me.

Thanks

SQL DB Help Needed!!!

Jul 25, 2007

Dear All,

I have a client requirement. We are integrating two applications. So the problem is that, whenever some updates (meaning to say "create" , "delete" , "update") happens in the SQL DB Tables, i needed to track that data and send it to a different system.

What I have thought abt is that if SQL could generate a file with all the values deleted/updated/created in the DB, then I could take those values and do the needful. Please help me..

Thanks,
Sanjo
