Diagrams On Development Machine

When I use Remote Desktop and connect to the server, and the open SQL, I see the diagrams.

Jul 23, 2005We have multiple development environments on one machine for our VisualStudio .net projects.These are web applications so we have organized them by IP Address andHost Headers.When I installed Reporting Services, it installed into my default website (localhost) and that is fine.However, we want to be able to create our reports in our different .netprojects. The only projects that will allow me to create reports arethe projects using the default website.When I right click to create a new project, the Business Intelligenceprojects (reports) type is not there.Can I do this? If so, how do I configure it?

SQL Server 2005 - Backup For Development Machine

I need help finding a good back up solution for SQL Server 2005. I am hosting several databases in a shared environment and do not have admin rights to detach & copy & reattach the database file. I can have the hoster back up the file, but that is a manual process and I have had other issues with it in the past (access rights, cost, etc.). I have also tried creating a new business intelligence project, but have found it difficult to do a complete exact copy (while maintaining primary key values) as I run into many concurrency violations. This is especially true in databases that use the standard asp.net membership services tables.
Is there a way to get an exact duplicate of the structure & data of a sql server 2005 database without having to create a new Business Intelligence Project? Or is there an easy way to do this within BI that doesn't require a table-by-table setup? The primary purpose of this backup for me is for use on my development machine. Backup for data security/recovery is handled by the ISP.

Parallel Development Of SSIS Packages
Jun 29, 2007I have seen a number of posts regarding parallel development of SSIS packages and need some further information.
So far we have been developing SSIS packages along a single development stream and therefore have managed to avoid parallel development of our packages.
However, due to business pressures we will soon have multiple project streams running in parallel, and therefore multiple code branches, as part of that we will definitely need to redevelop the same SSIS packages in parallel. Judging from your post above and some testing we have done this is going to be a nightmare as we cannot merge the code. We can put in place processes to try and mitigate this but there are bound to be issues along the way.
Do you know whether this problem is going to be fixed? We are now using Team Foundation Server but presumably the merge algorythm used is same/similar to that of VSS and therefore very flaky?
However, not only are we having problems with the merging of the XML files, but we also use script tasks within the packages which are precompiled, as the DTSX files contain the binary objects associated with the script source code, if two developers change the same script task in isolated branches the binary is not recompiled as the merge software does not recognise this object.
Do you know whether these issues have been identified and are going to be fixed to be in line with the rest of Microsoft Configuration Managment principles of parallel development?

Deploying Development Packages To Production

We have a system here where we develop SSIS packages on a development server. I am trying to figure out the cleanest way to promote these changes to a production server where stored procedures/tables that are used in the package are not deployed yet.
When I switch the connection in the package to the production server there are alot of objects in the package that are "invalidated" because they are trying to verify existence of tables/columns. One example is outputing the results of a query to a text file. The text file destination gets a red X on it because it cant grab the columns from the source query (because that stored procedure doesnt exist yet)
Is there a best practices or something on how to deploy packages to a production system? I have tried turning off "ValidateExternalMetaData" with no success.

How To Deploy The Packages To Sql Server After Development?

While developing the packages in our developers environment the packages should be stored in file system. Once after the completion of the development, while moving these packages to upstream environments the packages should be deployed to sql server. Is this scenario possible? If possible, can anybody give me some tips for how to do that.
Basically It is like the developers make their changes in the file system packages (internally versions are mainintained by source control). After the completion of the development whenever we do a build and deploy to the upstream systems we should move the packages from file system to sql server database. There is a scheduler in sql server which is responsible for executing these packages.
Can anybody give me some examples?
Another question.
Assume that in the developers environment there is a central sql server database which is storing all the packages in MSDB database. Suppose at a time 2 developers are making modification to a single package. How it behaves? Is parallel developemnt supported in SSIS?

I Changed My Windows Password And Now I Cannot Connect To SQL Server On My Development Machine
Jun 11, 2007I changed the login password on my computer today, and now I cannot connect to the SQL Server instance I have on that same machine. I am using Windows Authentication. I would think that, if I can log on to my computer, I would be able to connect to the database, since I have been "authenticated" by windows but, that does not appear to be the case. Dec 23, 2004Hi all! I know I might sound stupid, but I have this problem. I have developed my database on my laptop which does not use Active directory. Lets say I access the database with: SPIDERMANDB1 on SQL server, where the name of my laptop is SPIDERMAN, and the database is DB1. Now, I create an SQL script from sql server and make the necessary changes, like changing the computer name to say, SUPERMAN where my deployment server's name is SUPERMAN. But when I run the SQL script on the SUPERMAN server, it gives me an error like: "User or role SUPERMANDB1 does not exist in this database". I have deployed databases in this way on servers without Acive directory, so I'm sure its not a mistake on my side. So how am I supposed to go around this active directory thingi! Please help me out! I'm counting on u guys!

I have developed some packages (around 40) on my local system.
now i m trying to move the integration services project on the production server.
when i double click on the intergration services from the local drive of the server all the packages are up(works fine till here)
now i open any of the package-->this is what happens

and finally the prompt for the OLE DB error

The AcquireConnection method call to the connection manager "NDELNTX46.IMRB RTS.siddharth" failed with error code 0xC0202009. There may be error messages posted before this with more information on why the AcquireConnection method call failed.
Possible work around suggested to me was that in the base system(read local) before exporting go to package properties and the security and set the security as "Encrypt all with password" and also put some Password which i did and it worked for one.
other thing i thought off was creating the configuration file but first i thought of fully running one complete package on the production and then think of the configuration file.
so i went inside the invidual excel connection and pointed it to the correct new file location and also edited the OLE DB database connection and put my user name and password and checked save password and trying to run the entire thing.
but still the same problem..
one more thing i observed was that my OLE DB was going off everytime i am running the package.and i have to enter my password again...so othe save password i guess is not working
I know its a little long post..but i wanted to explain the entire process and problem to all with description.
all suggestions are welcome

BI Development Studio Install
Jan 24, 2008I am running SQL Server 2005 SP2 in Vista. I have Developer editions of everything. I am trying to get BI Development Studio and Analysis Services loaded.
I don't seem to have BI Development Studio loaded. When I go to Control Panel/SQL Server install it says it is already loaded, it needs to be modified. When I try to modify it, it isn't there.
Do I need to run this from the command line with SKUUPGRADE=1 ? Modify the registry?
Second question. Can I get Analysis Services projects loaded into my regular 2005 Visual Studio? How do I install Analysis Services into Visual Studio? Or is it always completely separate, just looks like Visual Studio but can't be accessed from there?

Unable To Install BI Development Studio

Seeking for Gurus help to install Business Intelligence Development Studio at MS Sql Server Advance.
Scenario:
I checked, I have only .net 2.0 installed along with sql server express including Reporting service.
On top of that when I tried to installed the extracted file setup.exe from SQLEXPR_TOOLKIT.exe it give me messsage Upgrade is blocked.

Your upgrade is blocked because the existing component is a later version than the version you are trying to upgrade to. To modify an existing SQL Server component, go to Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel, select the component you would like to modify, and then click Change/Remove.
but I have checked, I dont have BI Development Studio is intalled, I checked at VS.net.. I cant find the component.

I have started working on SQL server 2005 and realised that BIDS has not been installed, I tried to re-run setup again for integration services but I get an error saying that the version that is being installed is older than that already installed.
I assuming that SP 2 has been installed (judging by the logs)
Does anyone know how to install the BIDS application from the above scenario?
Does it even install in a 64 bit environment?

However, I dont have the SQL Server Business Intelligence Development in my sql2005 intallation. when I read this forum and other websites, about SSIS packages I see that I need this tool. Where can I download it?
Is it possible I have another sql2005 version that don't have this tool?

I first installed Visual Studio Express Edition which also installs SQL Server Express. I then installed Sql Server Management Studio Express. Subsequently I wanted to create reports, so I installed SQL Server Express with Advanced services which installs reporting services. But afte installing all these things I found that I am unable to create reports . To do that I would need Business Intelligence Development Studio . so I downloaded the install file for SQL Express toolkit which also includes installing BIDS. However when I tried to run the SQLEXPR_TOOLKIT.EXE it gives me teh message that all the components have already been installed. I cannot see BIDS anywhere (from start->programs->microsoft sql server 2005 or in control panel). Am i missing something? How do I determine if BIDS is installed or not

Errors After Moving Packages To 64-bit Machine

I have a bunch of SSIS packages that were created on a 32-bit machine (OS as well as SQL Server) where they run without error. I have moved them to a machine with a 64-bit OS as well as 64-bit Enterprise SQL Server, SP2. Initially I encountered errors with the packages that contained Script Transformation tasks where I had to set PreCompile=True. This allowed me to execute the packages individually. When I try and execute them as a batch, I encounter errors on various packages. They don't seem to be consistent - sometimes the error occurs on one package, the next time it will be on a different package. Sometimes they occur pre-execute, sometimes post-execute. Here are a couple of example errors:

Nov 22, 2006I'm having an issue with a development machine that has the RTM version of Vista installed on it. I get the same issue with every script component, regardless of what package it resides in.
The red "X" error that I get in the BI dev studio is:

Other developers can open and execute this package fine. The only machine that can't is the Vista machine. Has anyone else had this issue with running BIDS on Vista?
Issue With Opening DTS Packages On A VISTA Machine

I have SQL Server 2005 installed on a Vista Home Premium edition machine. I want to open my DTS packages on this machine in order to have a look at them.
I have installed the SQL Server 2000 DTS Designer components on this machine. I have also rebooted after the installation.
However, I still get the message
"SQL Server 2000 DTS Designer components are required to edit DTS packages.
Install the special Web download, "SQL Server 2000 DTS Designer Components"
to use this feature"
I have previously done this on an XP machine with no problems. Does anyone know if this is an issue and what the possible solution is?

Before I allways created a database manually and I could allways use as many databases I needed so in that way I could have several versions of a database for a certain software during development. Can you use separeted databasenames when developing in SQL Express? I am using a dotnetnuke installation file and inside the project there is a file /App_Data/Database.mdf should this file be renamed everytime I make a new testinstallation or setting up a separate dev environment /Johan

Executing SSIS Packages From Client Machine Using SQL Express Engine
May 26, 2006I have few DTSX packages on my SQL server 2005. These packages are supposed to transfer data and stored procedures from server to client Express engine. The scenario is that when user connects with the server he should run some kind of utility or any other way to run those SSIS packages so that the data could be transfered.
Remember the user machine has only SQL Express Engine and the packages are in SQL server 2005 machine.
Can any one help me out how to achive this scenario?

In thepackage we are using one "Source Flat file connection" and one "Oledb Destination connection"

Problems With Parent Variable Configuration After Moving Packages To New Machine...

I moved my packages to the new machine, and have problem with parent variables.
When child package tries to get parent variable value I get an error:
Information: 0x40016042 at LoopPackage: The package is attempting to configure from the parent variable "MAIN_SesId".
Warning: 0x80012028 at LoopPackage: Process configuration failed to set the destination at the package path of "Package.Variables[User::MAIN_SesId].Properties[Value]". This occurs when attempting to set the destination property or variable fails. Check the destination property or variable.

Install X86 On A X64 Machine
Mar 7, 2007Can i install a 32bits version of SqlServer on a Machine running Vista 64bits.
Now i'm having a 64bits development version installed but due to the fact that i can't use 32bits odbc drivers from that version this is blocking me seriously.
Before uninstalling i would like to check if this can be done.

Transferring Existing SSIS Packages Saved In A Shared Folder Location From Development Server To Live Server
Dec 20, 2007Please can anybody help me in transferring existing SSIS Packages saved in a shared folder location from development server 2ED to Live server TWD1.
Both has SQL server 2005 running and has visual studio 2005
Currently about 25 SSIS packages are executed from the development server transferring data on Live server TWD1...these ETL process is called from development server but executed on live server.
Now the problem is when i call these packages from the shared folder from live server it crashes.....i need to changes something to shift the whole package to the live server..and execute on live server itself instead of recreating the whole 25 process from scratch.....also i use optimize for many tables ..and run in a single trancastion....so how can i see the mappings of source and destination tables.
Please let me know the process how i can achieve this.

Is there any option to add a "Set Up Project" to the Report Project solution, so that client may run this setup project(.exe) to install the reports in his server.

Mar 19, 2007Today I attempted to install SQL Reporting Services on a box that only has the OLE DB driver for Analysis Services and the MSXML components; both of which are SP2.
When running the SQL Server 2005 install to install SSRS, I get an error:
"SQL Server 2005 Setup has detected incompatible components from beta versions of Visual Studio, .NET Framework, or SQL Server 2005. Use Add or Remove Programs to remove these components, and then run SQL Server 2005 Setup again. For detailed instructions on uninstalling SQL Server 2005, see the SQL Server 2005 Readme."
This box has barely anything on it aside from ProClarity Analytics Server and the components I mentioned above. My only guess is that the SQL 2005 installer sees some newer components that are SP2 and it thinks they are beta? I know for sure I do not have any beta software on this machine.
Any ideas?
