Install Database Server Error (XP)..
Apr 19, 2004
Hi,
I'm having problem installing the Database Server on Windows XP (home).
It shows "Internal Error. Contact Microsoft Technical Support" when I clicked on the "Install Database Server". I'm using SQLServer 2000 Developer Edition. I have already enabled Named Pipes and TCP/IP.
But I can get through the setup screen of "Analysis Services" and "English Query" without any problem. I haven't install Analysis Services or English Query. Do I have to install other software (like the "Analysis Services" or "English Query") before installing the "Database Server"?
Please help..
Thank you.

You can ignore this and it will complete the installation, but subsequently trying to patch with SP2 will fail on the same sections - Hotfix.exe crashes whilst attempting to patch Database Services, Integration Services and Client Components (3 separate crashes).
I've removed SQL Server 2005 elements and tried to re-install, but it's not improved the situation.
Any ideas?

Hi all,
I'm new to .NET and VB2008 and trying to write my first database application. It runs fine on my development PC (Vista) but I decided to publish/install an early beta to my daughters XP computer and am getting an error reading: Unable to open database.
The CD drive on that pc has been giving us trouble so I deployed to a subdirectory on the dev pc and moved those files to a thumbdrive, copied to the same subdirectory on client pc and installed from there. I've installed it more than once, trying different paths for the installed version hoping that was the issue but have hit a wall. Can anybody help?
Thanks,
Dominic

I uninstalled SQL Server Express 2005 and SQL Server 2005 from my laptop PC. I then tried to install SQL Server 2005 Developer on my PC and got the following message in my summary file:
Machine : MVANZANT-XP
Product : Microsoft SQL Server 2005
Product Version : 9.00.1399.06
Install : Failed
Log File : C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90Setup BootstrapLOGFilesSQLSetup0019_MVANZANT-XP_SQL.log
Last Action : SetUnattendedSvcAccountProp
Error String : SQL Server Setup has determined that the following account properties are not specified: 'SQLACCOUNT' . The properties specify the startup account for the services that are installed. To proceed, refer to the template.ini and set the properties to valid account names. If you are specifying a windows user account, you must also specify the password for the account.
Error Number : 28006
Does anyone have any ideas on what I need to do to get a good install? I have tried repeatedly and it halts in the same place with the same error each time.
Thanks!

I have a laptop with 512Mb RAM, about 4Gb available disk space, processor Intel Pentium 1.4GHz. The O/S is Microsoft XP Professional. As I understand the info given on the SQL Server Express page, it should install under XP Professional.
Now, when I start installation everything seems OK. I get a particularly promising red message informing me that I already have .NET Framework 2.0 installed. However right at the very end I get this message:
The SQL Server System Configuration Checker cannot be executed due to WMI configuration on the machine <machine name> Error: 2147746132 (0x80040154). Installation then stops.
I tried one of the solutions suggested (this one:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/201234 )
which involved searching for these 2 files: Crsdll.dll and Crsapi.dll - but couldn't find them. Nor could I find the Microsoft Site ServerBin directory referred to. Yet allegedly SQL Server 2005 Express does install under XP Professional, so this all seems rather odd. Can anyone out there enlighten me?
I should point out that I have a student edition of MS Visual Studio 2003 connecting to the Northwind database installed, and wonder if this is affecting things. Alternatively, is my machine simply not powerful enough (e.g. insuffcient RAM or something)?
Any suggestions gratefully received! I intend to devote Monday (2nd April & a day off for me) to trying to sort it out myself anyway.

I'm trying to install SQL 2005 Server onto a Windows XP Professional SP2 workstation. Whenever the splash.hta program is run an error with a header of "Internet Explorer Script Error" comes up where the error is "Dynamic link library (DLL) initialization routine failed". It asks if I want to continue running scrips on this page and no matter what I click, it will open up the menu screen. I then click on server components to install and get the same error just on a different file and it will not continue past that. These script errors do not occur on another workstation.
Can someone tell me if there's a fix on this?

I downloaded the SQL Server 2005 Evaluation setup .exe. When I wen to install it by clicking "SQLEVAL.EXE", I received an eror stating "There is not enough space on Drive C: to extract this package.
I have over 50 gig of available spac eon my C drive. What gives?
When I downloaded the .exe, I had the Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect enabled. Could that have caused it? Also, 2 days ago, I installed MS-Accounting 2007. Could that have caused a problem?
I have seen this error posted on the SS2005 forums and the standard response is to look at the installation logs. I have no logs. The extraction never completed.
Thanks.

Hi,
I've tried looking for a solution in other threads but I couldn't find anything that was completely the same as my situation. I got a new pc at work and I've tried installing SQL Server 2005 on it but everytime I try to install it, regardless of services included or excluded with the install, I cannot get through the install without this error. Below is the excerpt from the Summary.txt log file.

I've searched for and found similar problems that deal with the microsoft.sqlserver.notificationservices.dll not being found but I haven't found a fix that worked for me. These are the fixes I've refered to thus far.
http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1651162&SiteID=17
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940971
http://www.microsoft.com/products/ee/transform.aspx?ProdName=Microsoft+SQL+Server&ProdVer=9.00.1399.06&EvtSrc=setup.rll&EvtID=29549&EvtType=sqlcasqlassembly.cpp@Do_sqlAssemblyRegSvcs@Do_sqlAssemblyRegSvcs@x80131501
The answer that seems to fix this problem for everyone is to set the MSDTC service login as the NT AUTHORITYNetworkService account. The problem for me is that this is already set to this profile and I've tried resetting the services and rebooting the machine. I did not have a problem with my old machine, which as far as I can tell, is the same configuration, so I know this install should work.
I'm running Windows XP SP2. This is not the upgrade to SQL Server 2005 SP2, this is the original disk that came with Visual Studio 2005.
Has anyone else faced this issue where changing the MSDTC login wasn't the solution? Also, this is my first post, so I apologize if I've left anything out. Just let me know if you want any other information.
Thank you in advance.

I run setup using GUI. It upgrades all components of the existing installation w/out any problems except the last component. That is, it proceeds with the installation of SQL Server Database Serices and at the end fails to shut down the SQL Server and aborts the installation reporting the following:
"Service 'Computer_NameSQLEXPRESS' could not be stopped. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to stop system services. The error code is (16386)".
I am running Windows XP SP2 with both .NET 2.0 and .NET 3.0 installed on it. I am logged in as a system administrator.
The most puzzling to me things are:
- the setup starts AND STOPS w/out any problems SQL Server Reporting Services and SQL Server VSS Writer (thus finding enough privileges for both).
- the setup starts the SQL Server w/out any problems (thus it finds enough privileges to START A SYSTEM SERVICE) and then fails as described above 'lucking privileges".
During installation before failing the setup displays following:
"Run as Normal User. RANU instance Shutdwon in progress: MSSQL$SQLEXPRESS". The "normal user" puzzles me too, unless the SQL Server itself is meant here.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. I can provide the installation log file as well.
Thanks.

Hi,
I'm trying to install Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition (x86) on my laptop when a setup failure message would show up at the end. When I clicked for more details it has the followings:
Product Version 9.00.3042.00
Message Source setup.rll
Message ID 50000
EvtType sharedsetupsharedsetupactions.cpp
And later when I tried to uninstall it from Add/Remove Program the screen would simply flash when I click but nothing happens.
Please let me know what do I need to install the piece correctly, thanks!

I successfully installed SQL Server 2005 SP1 on one PC. When I attempt to install it on a second PC, however, I get the following obscure error:
Unexpected Error Occurred
The following unexpected error occurred:
That's right, there's nothing else listed, other an OK button. D'oh! When I press the OK button, the following error report dialog box appears:
Hotfix.exe
A recently applied update, NULL, failed to install.
There are no pending updates that I'm aware of, as I just booted the PC. I sent the error report.
I notice on this particular PC that the SP1 install EXE is expanding/writing to an external SCSI drive; would that make a difference? I don't see a way to specify a different (i.e., internal ATA drive).
Any other ideas?

and when I click OK it has not turned on any of the fetures under World Wide Web Services.
Any clues?

Hi,
I tried to install the Northwind database into SQl Server Express via the instnwnd.sql script using the command line:
osql -E -i instnwnd.sql
after a time out though I get this message:
"[SQL Native Client]Named Pipes Provider: Could not open a connection to SQL
Server [2].
[SQL Native Client]Login timeout expired
[SQL Native Client]An error has occurred while establishing a connection to
the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by
the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote
connections."
I already granted access to the administrator account on my machine.
Anyone knows what I need to do more?
Thanks in advance
greetings from Belgium,
Anthony
