Install SQL Express With Only Framework 3.0

I would like to know if we can install SQL Express on a machine that only has Framework 3.0 loaded or is it mandatory to have Framework 2.0.

Can't Install Express Because .Net Framework 2 Is Installed! I'm Going Around In Circles.
Nov 7, 2006I'm new to SQL Express and from the SQL Express DOWNLOAD page you need to install .NET Framework 2 then install SQL Express. After installing .NET Framework 2.0 I then attempt to install SQL Express and I get a message that SQL Server 2005 Setup has detected incompatible components from beta versions of Visual Studio, .NET Framework or SQL Server 2005. I used the Visual Studio removal tool and it took out .NET Framwork. I re-installed this and did a reboot and get the SAME ISSUE! CAN ANYONE GET ME OUT OF THIS MS loop nightmare.

While I am installing framework 2.0 sp2 I got a message that I can't install/uninstall it because it's part of operation system. I have installed VS2008 and the framework 2.0 sp2 is intalled, but when I try to install sql management studio express, I am getting message i have to install the framework 2.0.
Anyone can help me on this

I am running VS.NET 2003 on my computer and wish to try to install the *free* SQL server express 2005 .
The problem is I can't install SQL express as it asks me to install .NET framework 2.0 first.
I wonder if I do so, will I be able to work with VS.NET 2003?

I want to install SQL Server 2005 Express Edition but it requires .NET Framework 2.0. If I installed MSDE 2000, it doesnt have that Enterprise Manager.So, how is this possible for me to use the free SQL Server with that Enterprise Manager ? Thanks in advance.

Sep 17, 2015I have a very strange problem when I try to install SQL Express 2014 on 1 PC on my network.
The setup is blocking on the step "rules of functionnality" (I hope it is the good translation ...).
I ha ve a message that indicates that there is a problem the following checking : "It exists a Internet connection with the download center for Microsoft Framework 4.0". At the beginning I had Framework 3.5 and 4.5 installed on the PC.
When I tried to install manually Framework 4.0 I had a message that indicated that the setup was not possible because there was a Superior version. So I uninstall v4.5 and install v4.0 normally.
I run again SQL 2014 Express setup but I have always the same error. I take a look on Internet to look for the same problem but I found nothing.

Yesterday, I just downloaded the SQL Server 2005 Express (SQLEXPR.EXE) and tried to install it in my Windows XP Pro PC that is on Microsoft NT 4 LAN System. I got the following error: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 CTP setup The Microfost .NET Framework 2.0 is not installed. Please install before running setup.
This morning, I downloaded the NET Framework Version 2.0 Redistributable Package Beta 2 (x86) from the Microsoft Download Center and installed it in my Windows XP Pro PC. Then I tried to install the SQL Server 2005 Express (SQLEXPR.EXE) again. This time I got a new error: SQL Server 2005 Setup has detected incompatible components from beta versions of Visual Studio, .NET Framework, or SQL Server 2005. Use ADD or Remove Programs to remove these components, and then run SQL Server 2005 Setup again.
I am confused and lost in this installation problem. Was the .NET Framework Version 2.0 Redistributable Package Beta 2 (x86) a wrong Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 I downloaded and installed in my PC? Where is the right Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 for the SQL Server 2005 Express? Please help and advise.

Apr 4, 2007I am having the same problem as Michael, with the exception that my laptop is running windows XP SP2.
BUT when I look at the SETUP LOG FILE there is NOTHING in it. This is what I get:

Unable To Re-install SQL Server 2005 Express And Also SQL Express Toolkit

I had some issues on my server and had to uninstall .Net Framework 2.0, SQL Server 2005 Express, and SQL Express Toolkit. I installed SQL Server 2005 Express and it seemed to be ok.
Then my problems all started when I tried to install SQL Express Toolkit because I needed to install DTS Wizard again, and it errors out and wouldn't let me install it. So I uninstalled everything that's listed above again.
I then tried to install SQL Server 2005 Express again, and on the second from last screen, while its listing all the components and configuring them, I get the following error as it's configuring the last component... which was the SQL Server Database Services.

How To Set Up SQL Server 2005 Express After Install VS 2008 Express
May 7, 2008I installed VS 2008 Express with an option to download SQL Server 2005 Express. I noticed there is a '90' folder under my Microsoft SQL Server folder. I assumed this the folder for SQL Server 2005 Express.
How do I set up my SQL Server2005 Express, so that I can use some sample databases for my VS 2008 Express? Any difference for SQL Server 2005 Express between VS 2008 Expressdownload and SQL Server 2005 Express download?

I need to have SQL Server Express Utility installed. Please help and tell me how I can install SSEUtil.exe in my PC and how I use it to interact with SQL Server Express.

Is MS SQL Express mandatory? I already have MS SQL 2000 on the box. Is there any way to use that instead?

New SQL Express Install

I am trying to setup a small database on an XP system. Installed SQL Express, installed Management studio Express - no errors
I create a user called Joe using SQL server authentication
I create a database and make Joe the owner
I then try to connect to the database using the Joe account and get an error saying that
Cannot connect to JOE-PCSQLEXPRESS
Additional Information:
Login failed for user joe. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server Connection
I then try to do a reverse telnet on 1433 and get an error so I am guessing that there is no listener on that Port.
I remember seeing something needing starting when running express?
What am I not seeing?

I had SQLExpress on my machine. I was having problems so I deinstalled it using Add/remove programs.
deinstalled all components (Microsoft SQL Express).
However, I still see the following when I do Programs -> Microsoft SQL Server 2005 -> Configuraiton tools.- 3 options listed.
I then tried to install SQLExpress again - but it will not let me saying that components are already installed.
Can someone help -
1. I do not understand why still seeing SQL Server 2005 under Programs. Nothing is listed in add/remove programs.

Oct 4, 2007I tried to install the SQL Express 2005 on my PC several times.
However, I got the follwowing message at checking the configuration. "Setup has detected a probelm with Microsoft .Net Framewrok installation and cannot proceed. Microsoft .Net Farmework 2.0 is either not installed on this system or is corrupt."
I installed .NET 2.0 and got the message, "Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0 has been successfully installed."
The message seems to complete the installation of .Net but acutually failed installing the SQL.
Plaese give me advises.

Can't Install Sp2 To Express?
Aug 10, 2007Today, I attempted to install sp2 to my SQL 2005 Express instance and the install dialog would not allow me to check the box next to database services. At the bottom of the dialog it says this edition of SQL Server does not qualify for the update. It allowed other parts of the product to be updated, just not the engine.
This is on a Windows XP, SP2 box.
Shouldn't I be allowed to install the update for the database engine?

Can't Get SQL Server Express To Install
Aug 31, 2006I'm using the disk that came with my Visual Web Developer for Dummies book. It installed on my XP Home machine, but when installing on my XP Pro machine, the fourth step, SQL Server Express, it fails. I cleaned up my hard drive (about ten gigs of free space), I followed the steps here http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/support/readme/default.aspx to uninstall everything dot net related. Rebooted, checked my control panel, etc. Tried to install. It just fails. No error message.Can anyone give me an idea of where to start?Thanks

May 20, 2008i tried hard to install sql server 2005 express today but it always failed.

failure: it just says that the databaseservices could not be installed and the details are in the log. if i check the log it does not contain anything about the database services. it only says that the native client could not be installed (which is okay because i seem to have a newer one) .. here is the log:

SQL Express Install On 2003 AD
Jul 28, 2007I have been trying to setup SharePoint Services 3.0 on 2003 Server (Advanced) and when I run the setup for it I get this error:
SharePonit Products and Technologies Configuration Wizzard
"Failed to start the database service MSSQL$Microsoft##SSEE. Repair this product by selecting it from the Add/Remove Programs menu."
I have run a repair on all of the SQL products in the Add/Remove Programs menu and I continue to get the same error as above.
Please advise as I have un-installed and re-installed SQL Express 2005 and SharePoint Services 3.0 prior to this posting.
SQL Server Express Use After Install
Mar 17, 2007Hi, I installed VB express, can't recall if SQL Server Express was installed with VB or not at the same time, but I do have SQL Express installed. All I see is Microsoft SQL Server 2005 --> Configuration tools and --> Documentation and Tutorials. I must be missing something so I can create, view, alter and delete tables. The install gave no signs of installation problems. Any ideas what went wrong?

Jul 2, 2007I have been having terrible problems trying to install SQL Server Express on my laptop. This is so I can demo some products without an internet connection. If I try to install SQL Express using one of the Visual Studio products I get a message saying everything installed but the server portion is not there or running. If I try and install using just the SQL Express download then I get the following error:
SQL Server Setup has determined that the following account properties are not specified: 'AGTACCOUNT' . The properties specify the startup account for the services that are installed. To proceed, refer to the template.ini and set the properties to valid account names. If you are specifying a windows user account, you must also specify the password for the account.
I have tried to search for this error and all I have been able to find are references to the command line install. So I tried installing it from the command line using switch and ini configurations. I still get the same errors.
I also don't know if this is related or not but occasionally I also get a warning that my hardware is not sufficent to run the software. I look at the hardware requirements and my laptop meets or exceeds all of them (Pentium M, 1.86 Ghz, 512 M RAM, 40 Gb disk, XP SP2). The laptop is an IBM T43. All attempts were made on a clean install with nothing else loaded on the computer.
Any help would be appreciated. I am just about to give up on the whole project.
