MS SQL Reporting Service In Windows 2003 Server
Jul 27, 2005Hi,I tried to Develop one Report in SQL Reporting Service. I haveinstalled SQL Reporting Serivice in Windows 2003 machine. SQL ServerDatabase is in another machine, running on Windows 2000. I developedand deployed the report and all went fine.When I tried to see the report through the Report Service Manager WebPage it is comming properly. But When I tried to See the report inanother web page, I'm not able to see the images. But the Data isgetting Displayed and only Image is not comming. When I exported thereport to Excel, the Image is comming over there.I am using Report Viewer control (Which came as Sample Program) inthe ASPX Page to render the report. I'm using SQL Server 2000 with SP3aand SQL Server 2000 reporting Service with SP1.I tried setting the Mime Time for the GIF image and even "*.*" inthe Mime Type settings of IIS 6.0. Even then its not displaying theimage.Can any one help me out in solving the problem?Thanks in Advance.With RegdsKrish

Cannot Install SQL 2005 On Windows Server 2003
Dec 12, 2007I'm unable to successfully install SQL 2005 on Windows Server 2003. Everything installs correctly except 'SQLXML4', and after installation, there's no Management Studio, unless I then install SQL Express Management Studio.
Installation details: Successfully installs 'Native Client' and the 'Support Files'. The 'System Configuration Check' passes everything. Installed 'Database Services', 'Integration Services', 'Client Components' (except for the 2 development tools), and 'Books Online'. Created the default instance (there were no other instances). Set it to run as 'Local System'. Set only the 'SQL Server' service to start after setup. Specified 'Mixed Mode'.
Then the installation proceeds, and everything looks good until SQLXML4 fails. Soon after, a window pops up saying "Setup is preparing to continue with the installation". Nothing happens till I click 'OK', and then 'Workstation Components' shows as having failed. Then the installation finishes normally. However there's no Management Studio, except that I then installed the SQL Express Management Studio, which appears to work fine.
I tried uninstalling, and installing again, but got the same results.
How can I get this to install correctly?

Can't Install Integration Services On SQL 2005 (Windows Server 2003)
Jul 14, 2007Hello - We have been unable to successfully install Integration Services with an instance of SQL 2005 running on a Windows Small Business Server 2003. Installation proceeds with no errors, but when you attempt to connect to the Integrations Services and browse to where it apparently exists, the SQL Server Managment Studio returns the following error:

SQL 2000 , Windows 2003 Service Takes 15 Minutes To Start

After differential restore I start Remedy service. It starts in few seconds.
After full restore the same service takes 15 minutes to start. Bothe the things are done through SQL service agent. Even manual restaring the service also takes 15 minutes after full restore. WHy is it happening this way?

I need a hand here, referring to this knowledge base on Microsoft (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q283811) i applied this knowledge base, and it worked, the MSSQL and SQLSERVERAGENT have run under local non admin account.
But after i installed SP1, MSSQL service is ok, but SQLSERVERAGENT wont run. The warning message is : "Some service run and then stop if they have no work to do."
Is there any way i can install SP1 but in the same time run SQLSERVERAGENT under local non admin account?
Your assistance will be much appreciated

May 10, 2006I Try to install SQL Server Express in Windows 2003 Standard edition x64 and have some problems.
It say that can not instal client and say to use sqlncli_x64.msi, but I can not find this packege to install this client and I receive one alert with ASP.NET register 64.
I Check all request systems requirements many times and looks ok.
How can I solve this to install properly the SQL 2005 Express? When the setup finish say that was not possiblem to install SQL Server 2005 Express.

Reporting Services Unavailable After Windows 2003 SP2 Installed
Jul 24, 2007I have installed windows server 2003 on one of our test boxes (prior to live) and found that reporting services is now unavailable.
When I browse to the report server I get

The event log reports several times

i am tring to install and configure reporting services in Windows 2003 SP2- 64 bit machine as part of installing SCE 2007, and i followed the procedure for confiurng all the options in reportingservices config tool,
all the options show green flag and still could not proceed further as the following error is coming
"The Selected Sql server reportin service instance is not configured , please configure to continue" which halts the further process,
I have installed SQL Server 2005 edition and installed Sql server 2005 SP2 also,

Windows Server 2003 And Reporting Services Error: For Security Reasons DTD Is Prohibited In This XML Document.
Mar 29, 2007I do a clean install of SQL Server + RS + SP1 with standard setup on Windows Server 2003. I create a simple report (select * from aTable). This report (actually any report) shows the error message "For security reasons DTD is prohibited in this XML document. To enable DTD processing set the ProhibitDtd property on XmlReaderSettings to false and pass the settings into XmlReader.Create method."
This has to do with security settings in Windows Server 2003. On Windows XP everything works fine.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Edit: The reports do work in the preview tab in BIDS.

server, during the installation of the SQL Server Database Services the server hangs
and displays Setting File Security. I let the install run for over 45 mins and it still hangs... the log file is useless..

I have been unable to install SQL Express 2005 Server on my Windows 2003 Server (with SP2 installed). I keep getting an error message saying that Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1 is not installed.

So, I downloaded Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1 v2 (WindowsInstaller-KB893803-v2-x86.exe) but whenever I try to install it I get an error message saying that "the Service Pack version of this system is newer than the update you are applying" and that there is no need to install the update and it stops there.

Is there a workaround to this? How can I get Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1 installed? I tried going to the Windows Update site, I already have everything installed and I even started the Windows Installer service manually. Has anyone else experienced this?
How can I get SQL Server 2005 Express installed if not how can I install SQL Server 2000 on tihs machine? The only reason I am trying to install SQL Server 2005 is because wanted to try it so I uninstalled SQL Server 2000 now I can no longer install SQL Server 2000 again because it won't let me because of the SP2 patch.

Cannot Install Reporting Services On Windows Vista

I was struggling with installing reporting services from Sql 2005 dev edition on windows vista. I somehow managed to install the SQLExpress edition for Reporting Services, but now i want to unistall it and install Sql Reporting Services from Sql 2005 Dev edition CD.
When I try to unistall the SQlExpress Reporting Servie instance, the screen which says unistalling components disappears in a couple of secs and when i refresh the list of programs installed under Programs and features, i can still see SQLExpress Reporting Servies, i do not understand why this is happening and probably this is the reason behind not able to see the Reproting Services check box ungreyed when installing SQL 2005 dev edition.
CAN SOMEONE HELP ME ON THIS PLEASE?

Can't Install Reporting Services And Full-Text Search On Windows Vista
Apr 26, 2007When I install SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services SP2 on Windows Vista, Reporting Services and Full-Text Search are not being installed. My user account is configured as a Standard User. When I initiate the installation, I'm prompted for the password for the administrator user account.
During the System Configuration Check, I get a warning for the IIS Feature Requirement action. The associated message says: "Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) is either not installed or is disabled. IIS is required by some SQL Server features. Without IIS, some SQL Server features will not be available for installation. To install all SQL Server features, install IIS from Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel or enable the IIS service through the Control Panel if it is already installed, and then run SQL Server Setup again. For a list of features that depend on IIS, see Features Supported by Editions of SQL Server in Books Online."
KB Article 920201 ("You receive a warning message on the System Configuration Check page of the SQL Server 2005 Setup program on a computer that is running Windows Vista or a Server Core installation of Windows Server "Longhorn"") seems to address this issue. I used the Windows Features applet and selected all of the Internet Information Services items that were listed in the KB article; however, the "Windows Authentication" item was not in my list. ("IIS Metabase" and "IIS 6 WMI" were in my list but were worded differently--"IIS Metabase and IIS 6 configuration compatibility" and "IIS 6 WMI Compatibility", respectively--but I selected them both.) When I re-ran the SQLEXPR_ADV installer, I got the same warning...and Reporting Services and Full-Text Search were still not installed.
I went back into the Windows Features applet and selected all of the remaining unselected "Internet Information Services" items, and then re-ran the SQLEXPR_ADV installer. I got the same warning...and Reporting Services and Full-Text Search were still not installed.
It's frustrating that there is no obvious reason or error message as to why Reporting Services and Full-Text Search are not being installed. Are these features compatible with Windows Vista? Does anyone have an idea as to what the problem might be?

Steps To Install SQL Server Express (&& Reporting Serivces) On 64 Bit Windows Vista Ultimate
Apr 13, 2007Steps to install SSX (& Reporting Serivces) on 64 bit Windows Vista Ultimate
I struggled quite a bit over the past few days to complete this install. The sequence of steps is less obvious than those for Windows XP Pro on a 32 bit machine.
I recorded all the steps in one place in cookbook style for non-technical (but database capable) users like myself. I have referenced appropriate other postings and sources for detail steps. These are steps I found useful, you may be in a different situation.
My environment is as follows:
-New HP dv9000 w/ 2GHz and 2GB memory
-Factory installed Windows Vista Ultimate. Note this includes .NET Framework 2.0 so I did not have to deal with installing that.
-I have no extant databases or SQL Server that I am trying to convert or upgrade!
Setup Steps Before Install:
1) Turn off User Account Control.
At present, I am a one-user operation with close control over my system and there seemed to be issues with getting reporting services set up right with UAC. I may come back and modify this step later on and certainly would change this for any releasable systems.
1a)Go to Control Panel Home --> User Accounts --> Turn User Account Control on or off.
1b)Unselect Use User Acount Control.
2)Set up your IIS 7.0 for Reporting Services.
IIS 7.0 has IIS 6.0 Compatibility features turned off out of the box. You will turn them on with this step. This is needed for both Reporting services and to enable the Adminscripts that are used in Step 3 below.
2a) Use the Control Panel --> Programs --> Turn Windows features on and off function.
This is quite nicely desribed with screen shots at:

These steps worked for me although they are labeled Vista Beta 2.
3)Set up your 64 bit machine to run 32 bit ASP.NET
This capability is needed to make sure you pass the System Configuration Check for Reporting Services. I don't know the full implications of this step and wonder if it might eventually bite me if I have to flip-flop between 32 and 64 bit ASP.NET or have them both run at the same time.
3a) Open a command line window by:
Start --> Accessories -- Cmd Prompt
3b) In this window type:
cscript %SystemDrive%inetpubAdminScriptsadsutil.vbs set w3svc/AppPools/Enable32bitAppOnWin64 1
At some point, you may wish to go back to 64 bit. For that, see the posting by MihaelaE as an Answer in the SQL Server Reporting Services Forum under a thread started by fagster on 3/8/2007.
Now to actually install SQL Server.
1) Download the 64 bit SSX.
This step fooled me for a while as the 64-bit downloads are 'below the fold' on the web page.
1a) Go to the SSX download page:

1b) Scroll down the page and below Step 5, Register, you will see this text which takes you to the download you want:
"* For the 64-bit install of SQL Server 2005 Express Edition, click here."
1c) Follow the "click here" to get the download.
2) Install the package from step 1c and you will get SQL Server Express.
2a) The install may fail and complain about not finding a valid SQL Server Native Client Install, sqlncli_x64.msi. You will have to extract the files manually and then run the sqlncli_64.msi package by itself. Then you can go back to step 2 and should be successful.
To do this, see post of Mike Wachal on 4/5/2007 to SQL Server Express Forum, titled "Cannot Install SQL Server Express on Vista Ultimate -- cannot find MS SQL Server Native Client".
3) Now add in the SQL Server Management Studio Express 64 bit version.
3a) Go to the SSX download page:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/sql/download/
3b) Scroll down the page and below Step 5, Register you will see this text which takes you to the download you want:
"* For the 64-bit install of SQL Server 2005 Management Studio Express, click here."

4) Now add the SQL Server Reporting Services.

4b) Scroll to Step 3 Download and Install (in the middle of the page) and download SQL Server Express Edition with Advanced Services SP2.
4c) Install, but at the Feature Selection screen, disable all components EXCEPT Reporting Services. You already have the other components installed.
4d) In the install, you will get a screen called "Report Server Installation Options". Go ahead and select the "Install but do not configure the server" radio button.
5) Go ahead and configure SQL Server Reporting Services.
I'm not highly skilled in this area so I recommend the SQL Server Express Video "Learning Video 10: Getting Started with Reporting Services". This is found at: http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/sql/learning/default.aspx
I found this video to be cogent and useful.
That's what it took me to get SQL Server Express installed with reporting services on a 64 bit Vista Ultimate system. Sorry if this is so long but I wanted to cover all the steps that hung me up.

Unable To Open Windows Service Identity Panel In Reporting Services Configuration Manager

I've a slight problem with configuring my Report Server. I have set up everything apart from the initialisation and and the Windows Service Identity, however when I select the panel for the latter I am presented with a message box displaying the following:
" Reporting Services Configuration Manager:
There was an error while switching panels. The most likely cause is an error retreiving WMI properties. The exception details are:
InvalidArgument=Value of '1' is not valid for 'SelectedIndex'.
Parameter name: SelectedIndex "
I have tried re-installing the entire SQL server setup and this made no difference, I followed this by removing then reinstalling just the Report Service. Still nothing.
Any ideas as to what it is doing and how I should go about fixing it?

Cannot Install SQL Server 2005 On A Windows 2003 Cluster In Virtual Server 2005

am trying to install SQL 2005 in a 2-node virtual Windows 2003 cluster. I set
the cluster up through Virtual Server 2005 with 2 virtual nodes and one
virtual domain. The nodes can connect to each other as well as the
physical machine. When I try to install a fresh copy of SQL 2005 on my
cluster, I get an error every time. The

Can't Install IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Server On Windows 2003 X64 Storage Server, How Can I Fix The Pkg?
Jan 14, 2008I am a Windows developer for the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Server (TSMS) product.
Our product installation is built with InstallShield and uses the Windows Installer.
On a new installation of Windows 2003 x64 Storage Server R2, at a customer's site, the TSMS product fails to install.
The install of the OS has version 3.01.400.3959 of the Windows Installer and I see no newer version that installs.
Part of our product is 32 bit (console) and another part is x64 (server).
When installing I can see that the install's default is being redirected/reset to C:Program Files (x86)TivoliTSM after it is explicitly set by a custom action to ..Program Files.. . I further observe that our custom actions to write 64 bit registry entries are being refused.

The above fails to create the key.
We have tried four versions of our TSMS spanning many changes but the install acts the same.
This does not happen on any other Windows OS we test on but we do not test on Windows 2003 Storage Server R2 being that it is an OEM product. We did test on Windows server 2003 R2 x64 and do not see this problem.
Do you have any suggestions on how to tackle this problem?
I have full installation traces but can only see that the registry work is being refused. I can't see why.
Connection Problem To Sql 2000 On Windows 2003 From Windows 95
Jul 20, 2005Hi all,I have a Windows 2003 server, which is also a terminal server forapplication, with sql 2000 installed. My company has developed anapplication that uses SQL 2000 as its database. The application is aclient/server one. In each client computer there's a link to theapplication on the server. There is no problem with Windows 98,Windows 2000 pro, Windows xp pro clients, but the windows 95 onescannot log in to the database. The log of the application shows thefollowing error:connection error -2147467259. Cannot open database requested in login'database name'. Login fails.Till a week ago the application was running on a Windows 2000 serverwith SQL 2000 install and the W95 clients had no problem connecting tothe database, so my guess is the error has something to do withWindows 2003 server, but what'causing the error?I tried to install a newer version of MDAC (MDAC 2.5, the last versionof MDAC you can install on W95)but with no success. By the way W95clients have no problem accessing shared folder on the Windows 2003server.Any idea?ThanksMarino
