Hello all,
Is there any special procedure to install a SQL7 (plus sp3) and a SQL8 server on a Windows 2000 Server.
I did succed installing both of them, but all of my applications are behaving strangely ()error msg ect)...So I may supose that there some kind of predefined process to have those kind of installation working properly..?
Any idea would be welcomed !

Hi:
After I am install SQL7.0 clent tools in my WINDOWS95,
The SQL7.0 database can access very well,
but I am access SQL6.5 database object(tables) then the select data is bad,
why ? help me please.
I am currently running Windows XP Professional Service Pack2. It already has MSDE & SQL Server 2000 installed (although I just uninstalled MSDE in the vain hope that it might present the installer with a more straightforward upgrade).
I have tried installing with the default instance & a new instance (I don't really care - I just need to install the darn thing). I just want the basic database & Books On-line, nothing fancy.

I suppose an error dialog (or log message) that actually told you what is wrong and then what to do is too much to ask for. (Or an installer than just copied all the files into place). :(

I have never installed sql server before and I didnt know if I just take the sql server 2005 standard edition media and boot off it and do a fresh install that way or do I have to install Windows server

How can I copy a SQL 7 database from one server to another? Please tell me all the ways because I've tried the obvious and it doesn't work. (backup and restore - won't go from one server to another, DTS transfer object Wizard - does a whole pile of errors and doesn't do stored proceedures and trigures). Thanks for help in advance. Also, what is the email address to post to the listserv and where is the FAQ for SQL7? Most of my listserv's tell you where to post right at the bottom of the digest I get - any chance you guys would do that with this list? Thanks again.

I have setup SQL2000 Personal edition on my notebook.
I cannot connect to an existing SQL7 server on the network anymore. I
used to run SQL7 Desktop edition which ran just fine.
I also noticed that when I start my machine it take about 2 minutes
until the SQL service is started.
Any ideas why this is not working anymore?

But now I have some serious problem after an incomplete de-install and a re-install of SQL server 2005 express advanced. I hope anybody can help me to solve this. Because the first installation eas not succesfull I had to do an de-install. I have tried to unstall through start/control panel/ add-remove programms and even there not all programs were removed. And that caused the problem. After that I wanted to re-install again but an msi file was missing. So I did a de-install agian. Tried to re-install again but with a lot of errors. After looking at the library I found a program: Windows Install CleanUp. I installed it and that even gives an error for all programs installed with SQL 2005.
After that I ran a program called MsiInv to clean but without any succes because this program reported a run-tim error. I have all reports on my computer but don't know how to attach them. If you think you can help me I could send you all the reports.

We have two servers each running SQL7. I cannot run a trace on one server from the other. Whatever server name I enter in the drop down box, the trace only records activity on the server that profiler is running on. Even if I put a non-existent server name in the box (!), the trace accepts the name but still only runs on the host server.
Any explanations please.

The SQL is on an active/active cluster. Currently each runs at 2GB of memory, with available memory for failover. I am planning to add another 2GB to each SQL node. Is this possible? Are there any configurations I need to do? Do I need to set AWE enabled? and How much?

We are running SQL 7 on a Windows NT Server. If you copy a 25Mb filefrom this machine to a W2K server, the file copy takes over 5 minuteson a 100Mpbs switched network.Copying the same file to another NT server takes only seconds, andcopying the same file to the W2K server from the 2nd NT server, (whichis not running SQL) takes only seconds also.Has anyone any ideas as to why file copying between this machine and aW2K one will take so long. It is repliacted on 5 further w2K machines.

Microsoft was gracious and gave everyone who attended a free copy of Visual Studio 2005 and SQL Server 2005. I have installed the Visual Studio and use it all of the time. I also installed the SQL server 2005 but I can not find the application on my computer. After the install the only items that appear to have been installed are the following:
SQL Server Configuration tools(SQL Server Configuration manager,SQL Server Error and usage reporting, SQL Server surface area confiuration, Reporting Services configuration). There is also a menu icon labeled "Microsoft SQL server upgrade advisor" and SQL server upgraded wizard.
That is all. I can't find anything that is analogus to the Enterprise manager that was in SQL server 2000 or anything that is analogous to Query Analyzer of 2005.
Can someone help me out? We use SQL server 2005 so I know how it looks. I just can't see where it insalled. I don't think it did?
I have compile my application into a Smart Device CAB and also including SQLCE CAB file for SQL.
I have users who choose to install SQLCE into Storage Cards instead and causes the application not to function, when asked which destination to install.
I've done some search and found out about "wceload.exe /noaskdest" but I'm using NSIS to compile into a single .exe file, and its calling "CEAppMgr.exe"
How can I force SQLCE to install into its default directory without asking user?

By the way, i found that the sqlce20sql2ksp4.exe does not include any MSI, it is a direct executable file.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI run setup using GUI. It upgrades all components of the existing installation w/out any problems except the last component. That is, it proceeds with the installation of SQL Server Database Serices and at the end fails to shut down the SQL Server and aborts the installation reporting the following:
"Service 'Computer_NameSQLEXPRESS' could not be stopped. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to stop system services. The error code is (16386)".
I am running Windows XP SP2 with both .NET 2.0 and .NET 3.0 installed on it. I am logged in as a system administrator.
The most puzzling to me things are:
- the setup starts AND STOPS w/out any problems SQL Server Reporting Services and SQL Server VSS Writer (thus finding enough privileges for both).
- the setup starts the SQL Server w/out any problems (thus it finds enough privileges to START A SYSTEM SERVICE) and then fails as described above 'lucking privileges".
During installation before failing the setup displays following:
"Run as Normal User. RANU instance Shutdwon in progress: MSSQL$SQLEXPRESS". The "normal user" puzzles me too, unless the SQL Server itself is meant here.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. I can provide the installation log file as well.

I am trying to install SQL Server Express - (the non ADV version) and get the following error.
"An installation package for the product Microsoft SQL Server Native Client cannot be found. Try the installation again using a valid copy of the installation package 'sqlncli_x64.msi'".
I have 64 bit Vista Ultimate running on an HP dv9000.
I am using the download from the bottom of the download page for SSX where it says 64 bit version.
Prior to this I got the. "64-bit ASP.net is registered. Required 32-bit ASP.NET to install Microsoft Reporting services 2005(32-bit)." messagd during the pre-install scan. From what I gather in the posts, the reporting issue is different from my installation package problem.
I have been trying to prove a point to friends about how far you can go with SSX but am having no luck installing it. This whole process took 1 hour in XP but I've been stymied for 2 days.
I would appreciate being pointed at the right downloads for what seems to be a simple install.
