Installation On Windows XP SP2
Jan 12, 2005
I try to install SQL Server 2000 SP3 on my Windows XP server.
During the installation, the setup process inform me database services can't be install on my machine.
I can only install client tools.
It seems to success, but when I try to connect register a new database in the Enterprise Manager tool, connection to my server databases always fail with error:
"waiting time expire"
If I try to connect to the same database with the Querty Analyzer it works.
How can I solve this problem ? His there a patch ?

Hi all!
My name is Ivan and I am from Serbia.
I'm sort of newbie in sql server, so don't mind for confusion.
I installed SQL Server 2005 Express edition with Advanced Services. During Setup I have choosen to use Windows authentication for connecting to my server, cause I read it can be removed in SQL Server Management Studio (right-click on server, Properties, Security, SQL Authentication).
Few days ago I got some mdf database to attach to my server, but in readme file in the same folder, there was a message to create new user called 'Bob' (password 'msdn') with dbo permission to that database (with SQL Authentication mode access to server). I did so, created user, went to Server Properties, changed mode for Authentication), disconnect from server, and closed Management Studio. When I opened it again I clicked on SQL Authentication to connect, typed Bob as user name, msdn as password, and I got a message which was something about that it is not possible to connect with SQL Server Authentication mode, although I made a difference in Properties.
Should I install SQL Server with the new instance and with SQL Authentication mode?
Please help me out.

Hi,
I am having trouble installing SQL 7.0 beta 3 on my home PC running Windows 98. The setup process fails in the last stage when it attempts to start the server.
The one thing missing on my PC is it still doesn`t have any TCP/IP address; does it matter? I have also noticed that when I run the setup, it doesn`t recognize Named pipe protocol. Have anybody had similar problem?
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi,
i tried to install SQL Server 2000 Developer and MSDE the whole day on my Windows XP SP2.
MDAC is the latest, that come with WinXP SP2 (2.81). The installation fails at the end after 100% complete.
It says:

then it takes some time and the failure appears, saying:

I have a Windows 2003 Enterprise x64 edition cluster setup and functioning normally. Now, I am trying to get SQL Server 2000 installed as a failover cluster but am having some difficulty. When installing, I get the message '[sqsrvres] ODBC sqldriverconnect failed' in the event log. The message happens when the installer is trying to bring the SQL Server Service resource online.
I am able to ping the name of the instance successfully. I am able to manually start the 'MSSQL$InstanceName' service. I have turned off the firewall on both machines, but this did not help. I have the DTC Service setup as a resource in the same cluster group.
I also read http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;815431 which seemed promising, but did not reolve the problem.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) is either not installed or is disabled. IIS is required by some SQL Server features. Without IIS, some SQL Server features will not be available for installation. To install all SQL Server features, install IIS from Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel or enable the IIS service through the Control Panel if it is already installed, and then run SQL Server Setup again. For a list of features that depend on IIS, see Features Supported by Editions of SQL Server in Books Online.
I already configure IIS7 with all feature, but system still generate above mentioned message.

Iam not able to repair the corrupted Windows 2000 Advanced Serverinstallation but the file system is intact. Hi All,
I need a hand here, referring to this knowledge base on Microsoft (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q283811) i applied this knowledge base, and it worked, the MSSQL and SQLSERVERAGENT have run under local non admin account.
But after i installed SP1, MSSQL service is ok, but SQLSERVERAGENT wont run. The warning message is : "Some service run and then stop if they have no work to do."
Is there any way i can install SP1 but in the same time run SQLSERVERAGENT under local non admin account?
Your assistance will be much appreciated

Hi,
I recently installed an evaluation copy of SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition on my local machine and during the installation I used Local System system account for the SQL Server service and set the server to use Mixed Mode authentication.
I am able to connect to this local server Database Engine with my Windows login through SQL Server Management Studio and am able to perform sysadmin tasks. My question is why?
My thinking was that even though my Windows login would provide me a connection to the server, I would still have to manually add this login to the sysadmin server roles but after checking the sysadmin role, my Windows login isn't in there. The Windows login is not found under Security - Logins in SSMS either.
Can someone tell me should details for the login be visible on the server and why it seems to have sysadmin permissions ?
Thanks

I have been through virtually every last posting on installing SQL Server Express with Advanced Services in this site and still have no success accessing the Reporting Services site: http://localhost.reports$sqlexpress. I get a the correct background to the site as in the tutorials, but only get "ERROR - unable to connect to the remote server", which may be indicative because this is all installed on my local machine (Dell AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4000+ 2.11 Ghz, 1GB, Windows Ultimate). I have gone through How to install ... on a Windows Vista-based computer, KB934164, and most recently, How to configure .. to allow remote connections, kb 914277, in hopes of addressing the "remote server" issue. I still can't get past this obstacle. PLEASE HELP!! :-)

I am attempting to write a Windows service that watches a database for uploaded files to import. When a new file is found, the corresponding SSIS package is run from the file system with variables passed through. I started development as a Windows app and copied the functionality to a service.
The app runs fine. The service does not. I get a "Failure" each time a package is executed. Everything is identical behind the scenes with the obvious exceptions that OnStart and OnStop handlers are buttons in the app. I added a script task at the beginning of one of the SSIS packages to notify me that it is even running at all. It doesn't even hit that initial task.
Again, the app will run all packages just fine. The data is imported and the results return as "Success."
The following is the code executing the package. Any help is appreciated. I've been banging my head on this one for a few days now. (Is there a tag to format a code sample?)
Dim pkgLocation As String
Dim pkg As New Package
Dim app As New Application
Dim pkgResults As DTSExecResult
pkgLocation = sPackageFolder & PackageName & ".dtsx"
pkg = app.LoadPackage(pkgLocation, Nothing)
Dim vars As Variables = pkg.Variables
vars("ImportId").Value = ImportId
vars("ProductionServer").Value = ProductionServer
vars("ProductionDatabase").Value = ProductionDatabase
vars("SourceFileName").Value = FileName
vars("SourceFilePath").Value = FilePath
pkgResults = pkg.Execute()

Long story short -
Have two C# applications - one WinForms desktop app, the other a WinForms smart device app. Both use SQL Server Compact CE 3.5 to store data locally. Both work just fine.
Now the desktop app needs to open and update the .SDF file that is stored on the Windows Mobile device. (Device will be docked via USB.)
What format would the path to the .SDF look like that the WinForms application would need to specify in order to open it?
Thanks for reading.
