Installation Problem - Enterprise X64 On WS2K3 SP2
Mar 27, 2007
All,
I am attempting to install SQL Server 2005 x64 on a pristine WS2K3 R2 SP2 system. The only thing I have installed on the system so far is the .NET framework 3.0 for SharePoint.
The SQL Server installer works until I get to the Feature Selection screen. The only two features that are supported are the client tools and the Documentation. Nothing else.
I have an existing database running on NT Enteprise Edition and SQL Server Standard Edition. I am attempting to install the SQL Enterprise Edition and am not having any luck. The error I am getting is that SQL 7 is already installed. My question is do I have to uninstall the SQL Standard edition and reinstall the SQL Enterprise Edition or is there a way that I am missing that will save me some time and effort. I am not finding anything in BOL and the readme files don't address the change from 7 standard to 7 enterprise only from 6.5 to 7.0.
Can anybody provide me with the guidelines to install a fresh copy of SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition? The previous installation included a system account and it was on the same drive as the operating system. I remember reading this was not a good practice. Am I wrong? thanks in advance
when i tried to install sql server 2005 enterprise edition on vista home premium, it shown me 2 warnings. first, it didnt find iis service(although i have iis 7.0.6000....) , second, os compatability issue. (later i installed SP2 to solve second warning). during the installation it didn't ask me to enter instance name or anything but after installtion completes it opened surface area configuraion to add administor privilages. but in the left textbox i didn't find any user privilages to move them to right side text box. i also don't see any sql services in my services list. when i try to start sql server management studio i don't see any server same in server name in drop down box.

I have problem when installing SQL 2005 Enterprise to my Windows 2003 R2 cluster. I install the SQL instance on the first node in my cluster, it analyses the cluster and comes up with no errors or warnings, i answer all the installation questions and proceed with the installation. When installing the SQL engine I see the status changing as the instance is started and then stopped again etc, finally the status changes to "removing backup files" when it get an error that reports:
"The setup has encountered an unexpected error while Completing Commit. The error is: The specified module could not be found."
Unfortunately there isnt any more information to go on. Any help would be appreciated.
I am attempting to install SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition. The install stalls permanently, the SQL Server's memeory usage and CPU usage plummets to nothing and the SQL Server 2005 Setup Dialogue's status stops at "Validating Database Password." This occurs on the SQL Server Database Services portion of the install. The last line in the SQL Server Setup.log says "<Func Name = 'SAPaswwordPolicyCheck'>
I have verified that the sa password that I am entering when prompted for it in the install setup is valid with respect to SQL Server and Windows Server 2003 SP 1 (13 chars, at least one symbol, at least one upper and at least one lower). What else could be causing this problem? Any ideas or stabs would be greatly appreciated.
I found sql2005 Enterprise cannot be installed under Simplied Chinese win 2003, the only thing i suspect is that win2003 is an envaluation copy with netframework 2.0 be installed.
When the setup program tries to start the database service (the last step of installation), it indicates an error 29503.
The SQL Server service failed to start. For more information, see the SQL Server Books Online topics, "How to: View SQL Server 2005 Setup Log Files" and "Starting SQL Server Manually." The error is (17058)

I seem to be unable to install this using the link provided on the blog page. I'm getting a "Same architecture installation" error. Running on the machine is Visual Studio 2012 Premium & Sql Server 2012 (64bit).
I am trying to install SQL Server 2000 on a Win2K OS machine but Iget this error message:"A previous program installation created pending file operations onthe installation machine. The registry key:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetContro lSessionManagerPendingFileRenameOperations keeps reappearing as soon as Iclose RegEdit.Any ideas? Thanks,lq
Please help,I am trying to install MSDE 2000 so that Backup exec will run on thisserver. I have gotten so far as to find an entry in my SQLSTP.TXT filethat says that c:mssql7 was detected so the install fails. Now, to start with there is no directory called C:mssql7 on thisserver. I have gone through all MS articles on manual removal of SQLserver and instances. I have searched the registry for mssql7 andremoved any keys that matched, as per MS article I have searched onSQLBOOT.dll and it is not present anywhere on my system and I still getthe same results.2:07:44 Begin Action: Detection12:07:44 SQL Server version already installed: 7.00.62312:07:44 Previous Install SQL Path: C:MSSQL712:07:44 Previous Install SQL Data Path: C:MSSQL712:07:44 End Action Detection12:07:44 Begin Action: ODBCLocked12:07:44 End Action ODBCLocked12:07:44 GetDefinition returned: 112:07:44 Previous SQL Server ProductType: MSDE [0x4]12:07:44 This combination of Package and Operating System allows a fullproduct install.can anyone think of anything here..what else could be causing the server to think there is a previousversion of SQL 7 on this box!!!?
I get an error when trying to install the SQL Native Client. It says it cannot find the installation package and to use a valid copy of 'sqlncli.msi'. I've downloaded the Express setup twice and get the same error from both of them.
I'm attempting this in a VMWare session setup for Windows 2K, Advanced Server. I am trying to test my installation and setup procedures. This is not a production setup, just install testing and documentation. I have allocated only 272MB to the VMWare session, which is why the system doesn't meet the recommended settings.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Below is the Summary.txt output file.

We are migration few database from SQL 2000 Enterprise Server to the SQL 2005 Enterprise Server (64 bit-Itanium Server)
Problem :
- The performance difference observer was not much (Just 15-18%)
- The CPU Utilization goes to 100% immediately, when the software login screen appears and it sustains in between 90% to 100%
- Multi-User Access (3 or more concurrent users), the sql performance is tremendously slow.
Steps followed for Migration:
- We have used the backup and restore method to migrate the data from SQL 2000 Enterprise Server to the SQL 2005 Enterprise Server (64 bit-Itanium Server).
- We ran the DBCC DBREINDEX for each affected tables
- We executed the sp_updatestats procedure for all the tables
- Upgraded the DB compatibility version to 90
- Installed the SQL 2005 Enterprise Server (64 bit-Itanium Server) Service pack 2.
One thing that we observed, was the memory usage, on SQL 2000 the sqlservr.exe uses around 1.5 GB where as on the SQL 2005 its just 120 MB.
A normal select query on 2000 Server took 11-12 sec, having 10 lac records, and the same query on 2005 took 1 min (3-5 sec CPU process taken by sqlservr and rest by the Sever Management Studio.
The only differance noted was that on 2000 the entire data was displayed at one go where as in 2005 the data was displayed at the 1st sec, and was filling the rest in the buffer, and to finally display entire data it took 1 min.
Also
when we run this query
select * from sys.dm_os_sys_info
one column os_priority_class shows a value = 32 ? what does this means.
In the MSSQLSERVER SERVICES, properties, there is a parameter displaying value
Advanced > Running Under 64 bit OS = No ? what does this means.
Could anyone pls suggest as to how to increase the sqlservr.exe memory area, and also how the enhance the performance.
Here is the senario. I have a SQL 7 server setup and running in our server room. I do all of the tasks from Enterprise Manager at my computer down the hall. I want to run the Sql that will generate a database from our development server to our production server. The problem that I am having is that when I run the Sql (after modifing the file paths) I get a msg that says it can't find the path specified. Why is that? If I go directly to the production server and run the sql I don't have the problem. Could this be because the drive that I want to put the file on is a hidden share? Please help.
I have recently installed MSDE on my computer. Now I need to get a copy ofEnterprise Mgr or equivalent. Does anyone know if I can obtain this fromsomewhere without having to purchase anything from M$
The data limit in SQL Express is 4 GB and SQL Enterprise is unlimited. I have SQL Express installed on my desktop machine. and SQL Enterprise on my web server. Now, I am thinking to develop solution in ASP.NET with SQL Express. and finally upload the solution on web server, where SQL Enterprise is installed. So, will there be any problem in such case ?In other words, the mdf file created by SQL Express and SQL Enterprise is same or different ?
I installed SQL Server MSDE 2000 but I can't find how to start it. Does this package include an Enterprise Manager or not? I thought that maybe it was a standard XP Pro feature. I had no problem finding it in W2000 Pro.
When i was trying to install SQL Server 7.0 Enterprise Edition on NT 4.0/sp 6 box, got a message and that "cannot install SQL Server 7.00 EE on Windows NT Server EE" and i opted for desktop edition and installed SQL Server 7.0 and upgraded all the users and system databases. (I found a article in Technet - Q234060 about this problem and the solution is run winntup.exe before installing sql server)
Now the question is, i want to upgrade the SQL Server Desktop to Enterprise edition. How to do it? is it required to re-install SQL Server ? or any other methods available.
Has anyone encountered this error: When you are in Enterprise manager and you select a database then the tables tab and then you select a table and go to open table- select all rows, I get an error--An unexpected error happened during this operation-Query Designer encountered a query error! Please let me know if you have seen this. Also, when I access this from one networked computer I get the same error, then when I access it from another I do not!! The servers are interacting with Pivotal. The one that works does not!!
Hi all, I have SQL 7.0 desktop addition installed on my local win NT workstation. I have SQL 7 Enterprise and NT 4.0 Enterprise running on a server with 4 Gig of RAM. Is there anything special I have to do for SQL to access all the memory? My NT administrators tell me that it will only access up to 3 Gig if I add a /3G switch to the end of the boot.ini file. Any suggestions?
I am fairly new sql dba in a company and I am sure Enterprise Manager is installed on PC's and it shouldn't. Is there a way of finding out other then visiting each workstation. Thanks in advance..
I am considering upsizing my Access 2000 DB to a SQL 7 server. I was told that having SQL 7 Enterprise Manager is highly prefferd but not essential as I can maintain the upsized DB with Access 2000. The only way that I have been able to find JUST enterprise manager seems to be with purchasing the whole SQL 7 program for $1300! Microsoft cannot be that cruel, that you have to buy the whole program just for Enterprise Manager!
My questions are:
Can I download just MS SQL 7 Enterprise Manager anywhere for a reasonable fee or free?
and
if not, can I continue to use Access 2000 to maintain the SQL 7 upsized DB?
