We installed an Enterprise version onto a server that only needs Standard. Unfortunately an outside supplier installed software and databases on it before we realised our mistake. Is it safe to just install Standard 'over the top'and what would that do to the application's databases ?

I assume this is a licensed version because the std edition does not have a trial license? Can someone confirm this?

Based on the properties of the database, this is a version 3.0 DB. I then deploy the application to the Pocket PC 2003 SE Emulator and I receive an error when trying to open the database from my app. It's a very generic error:
System.SData.SqlServerCE.SqlCEException
I trap the error in my code, but there is no message in the exception object.
If I try to open it with Query Analyzer on the device, I get an error stating "The file is not a valid database file". It appears that SQL CE 2.0 was deployed to the emulator.
I noticed that when I add a reference in my project to the System.Data.SQLServerCE namespace, it defaults to this DLL:
C:Program FilesMicrosoft Visual Studio 8SmartDevicesSDKSQL ServerMobilev2.0System.Data.SqlServerCe.dll
I tried removing that and manually adding a reference by browsing to this 3.0 DLL:
C:Program FilesMicrosoft Visual Studio 8SmartDevicesSDKSQL ServerMobilev3.0System.Data.SqlServerCe.dll
I then receive the following build error:

If I build the database in my application from scratch from within my code, everything works fine, which I believe is because it is a 2.0 database that is generated.

I guess it is 3.0, but I'm not sure about it.

I'm trying to rebuild from a meltdown. I'm using disk backup files. Icould have sworn that I had SQL Server 2000 SP3 installed on the oldmachine, but maybe not.With SP3 installed, I get a message along the lines that the restorecan't be done because the backup was created using server version134218262 and this server is version 134218488.I've searched the documentation and can't find any reference to thoseversion numbers.In any case, I thought SQL Server 2000 could restore backups createdon any SP level to any SP level.Any ideas?--Regards.Richard.
View 4 Replies View RelatedA couple of days ago I installed SQL Server Developer Edition onto my server "DELLNOV2006" which already had an instance of SQL Server 2000 Developer Edition.
All seemed fine, but today trying to use SQL SMAS, I received the error "This version of SQL server is not supported. You must upgrade to an instance of SQL server 2005.
So I opened MSFT SQL Server Management Studio and in object explorer saw the highest object was "DELLNOV2006 (SQL Server 8.00.2039 DELLNOV2006MST).
In the query window SELECT SERVERPROPERTY('productversion'), SERVERPROPERTY ('productlevel'), SERVERPROPERTY ('edition') is returning 8.00.2039
That's SQL Server 200 SP 4, so it looks like SL Server 2005 is either not installed or is somehow not the default.
According to 'Remove Software' window, I have both SQL Server 200 and 2005 installed.
How can I get SQL 2005 as the default? Then I can get rid of 2000.

I've got experience of developing applications using relational databases, but I've never installed a database on my PC.
I've just downloaded and installed .NET Framework 2.0 without issues. I also did Visual C# Express with no problems and I've made a couple of example projects successfully.
What I wanted to do next was install SQL Server Express so I can design a database and then use Visual C# to create a GUI to do a simple add/edit/delete type scenario.
So, I have installed something called SQL Server 2005. I tried to install SQL Server Express, but for some reason it isn't called that on my list of programs.
When I open that up I have a choice of SQL Server Configuration Manager or SQL Server 2005 Surface Area Configuration. None of these look like what I was expecting - a nice Studio where I can create tables much like MS Access.
Perhaps I need to do something with one of these tools to get to where I want to be, or perhaps I am barking up the wrong tree and I need to do some uninstalling.
I wondered if someone could guide me? I feel so lost that I don't even know the right questions to ask to get the answers.

I installed Visual Studio 2005 Professional then after that was installed and running, I tried to install the the SQL Server 2005 Developer's Edition which installed but I do not get the SQL Server 2005 Studio Manager. I have remove and reinstalled but it never gets installed. Any ideas?

View 1 Replies View RelatedToday I installed SQL Server 2005 developer edition on a test server. Afterwards I also installed the SP1. During the installation of SP1, the installation program said the server should be restarted afterwards, which I did.
Now when I look at the Add/Remove Programs dialog I have several items which mention SP1 on the SQL Server items.
But when I request the server properties in Managemnt Studio I see the version number 9.0.2047. Shouldn't this be 9.1.XXXX?
How can I be sure the SP1 is correcty insatlled?

Hello Everyone, I am trying to install SQL 2005 on my machine. All I want is the functionality that I enjoyed with SQL 2000- Query Analyzer and Enterprise Manager. For some reason, the version of SQL 2005 that I am installing is only giving me an option for the Configuration Manger which does not provide access to the Management Console. It is my understanding that I need the Management Console to create databases, look at tables in my databases, etc., etc. just like I did in Enterprise Manager. Is there anyone who can tell me what I'm doing wrong? Currently, the cd that I have says SQL Developer Edition. Thanks.

Would anyone here please guide me how can I check the version of reporting services installed? My problem is in my virtual machine, both SQL Server and SQL Server 2005 are installed, but I can create report in the vistual studio 2005 IDE, but cant deploy it to the reporting server database, in addition, I cant connect to reporting services database in SQL Server 2005 management studio.
Is it possible to install two different versions of reporting services in the same virtual machine? Please anyone here give me some advice for that. Thanks a lot.

I installed RS 2005, SP1 and then the rollup fix 2153 however; if I run http://server/reportserver or view the reportserver log file, it shows version 2047 which is the SP1 version. I have added the tail end of the rollup hotfix log file which shows I have installed it.
Is this a known issue?

Since some analysis services features are only available in Enterprise version , I have to upgrade my SQL 2005 server from standard edition to enterpise edition.
So I uninstall originial standard version of analysis service and install a Enterprise version. However, the analysis service is still a standard version after installation.
Is it possible to keep data engine as standard version and install a enterprise version of analysis service?

Hello,I have been searching and reading a lots of information on the microsoft website about the different version of SQL server, but still can not make my decision.In term of performance, is there a real big difference between the workgroup and the standard version? The workgroup is limited to 3 GB of RAM while the standard is unlimited, would that really change the performance if my server has 16Gb or RAM?The price difference is pretty substantial so if could only have to buy the workgroup , it would be better.One more question, regarding the type of licence, my server has 2 processors, could I avoid buying 2 licences and get the Server plus CAL instead. The reason is because the Enterprise Evaluation version expires after 180 days. So if I create reports and cubes in Enterprise Evaluation I can import them into Developer Edition right? We have a 64bit os machine that we accidently loaded the 32 bit version of sql server on. We now want to upgrade it to 64 bit sql server, but we now have a production database on it. My understanding is that all I have to do is detach the production database, upgrade to 64bit sql server, then reattach the database. Is this really all I have to do?

I installed the SQL Server 2k EnterPrise version and developer version on the same version, and the developer version is an instance "Development".
How do I expose both of them to internet? Just open both of them to port 1433? And on the client side, just say IP and IP/Development? Do I need specific set up, will they conflict?

I downloaded the 101 Samples installation (i.e. 101SamplesCS.msi) from Microsoft's website, which contains SQL Server database files.
While working with the databases in the "Data Access" samples from the 101 Samples projects, I get the following error:
"Database <mdf_name> cannot be upgraded because its non-release version (600) is not supported by this version of SQL Server. You cannot open a database that is incompatible with this version of sqlservr.exe. You must re-create the database..."
I assume the database files were created with a beta or CTP version of SQL Server 2005. Does anyone know where I can get an updated version of these database files or scripts to update them?
