Installing Express2005 SQL
Nov 6, 2006
I am trying to setup a new server for a non-profit i donate my services to.
I want to have SQL for an intranet based program that will be converted from a currently used Access database.
I can not get Express (any version to install). Below are the specs of the server and the log from the install.
Any suggestions and thanks in advance,
Lynn

Hi,
I am using VS2003. I have installed .net2.0 so that I can run SQL Express. I am using XP Pro SP2.
My server is called ikitsch. The path to my database is
ikitschsqlexpressDatabasesTest1
I am using windows authentication. For some reason I can't seem to connect to the database. What would be a correct connection string to
connect to this database on my local machine?
Thanks

I've just started hosting my newly created Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2005 Express Edition web site. Unfortunately the Login group membership functions will not function correctly. Having contacted the web service hosting provider, They replied: "We do not support SQL express2005. The only way to use the extra functions of ASP.NET2 such as group membership is if it is using an SQL 2000 database to connect to. "
Is it possible to design web sites with Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2005 Express Edition that store membership details on an SQL 2000 database?
I've just paid £88 approx. $140 for a years subscription, have I chosen the wrong web service hosting provider?
Should I have designed the web site with a better web site design software tool that also makes designing membership login functionality easy, just as Microsoft Visual Web developer 2005 express edition?
Look forward to all comments?
Regards
Philip

Is it possible to install and configure the MSDTC resource in a SQL Server 2000 cluster after SQL is installed and running?
When I recently went through a rebuild of my cluster, I forgot to install the resource before installing SQL Server. Now, if I install and bring online the MSDTC resource the SQL disk groups will not fail over correctly. The SQL Server resource will not come online.
Thanks in advance for any help. I would really like to avoid rebuilding again.

My boss gave me a server with server 2003 standard and Sql server 2005 and visual studio 2005 installed already, he asked me if i could figure out how the 'new' reporting services work, Im pretty new to SQL and the reporting service but i figured out i had to install asp.net / frameworks and IIS.
So right now i wanna start the Reporting Services Configuration Manager and i get an error that says 'Invalid namespace' and when im trying to approach by using my browser i get 'page not found' so obviously their is Alot wrong. I asked my boss if i could not reinstall everything and do it in the correct order (IIS / ASP.net / Frameworks before installing SQL server 2k5 but that was not an option because we dont seem to have the cd's anymore.
The server is not connected to any network or the internet.
My Question:
Is their any way to fix this? and if yes could anyone tell me where to start
Thanks in Advance!
ps if their is information or logs that u need in order to help me just say so :-)

Whenever we install SQL Server 7.0 on a box with 6.5 on it, the installation always fails at the last hurdle. It gives the following error:
Microsoft SQL Server Version Switch
An error occured which prevented a succesfull version switch. Please make sure the Registry Editor, Query Analyzer and ISQL are closed, and try running vswutch.exe again.
We've followed all technet article recommendations to no avail. Any ideas ?
Thanks

I've been trying to re-install 7.0(on my test server) but duuring the wizard setup it says:
"Unable to find path HKEKY_LOCAL_MACHINE_SOFTWAREMicrosoftMSSQLSERVERSe tup.
A uninstall was done but I don't understand why it won't just install from the
CD.
Also How can you change the server name in EM, under the SQL Server Group
you have the server name, i.e ServerA. When I put 2000 on the same machine that wouldn't do the re-install for 7.0 it shows the server name as ServerAServerA and I just want to rename it to ServerA. But in EM under 'Registered SQL Server Properties' the server name field is not active for modification.
I would appreciate any help to the up-most. Thanks

Hello:We just leased a dedicated server and now want to install SQL Server2000. We though we could just copy the contents of the CD to a folderon the server and run AUTORUN. While it does load the splash screen, when we click install SQL Server Components, the demoshield splashscreen comes up and then disappears. The install stops.Any ideas? Is this even possible? Thanks in advance.Jason Sweet

Hello, I know that IIS needs to be installed in order to utilize SQL Server Reporting Services. My question is, can the installation of IIS be automated so that I am not relying on end-users who are not that computer literate to install IIS?
Thanks in advance!

Hello, I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions regarding the requirement of SQL Express of ASP.NET 2.0 and that this may "break" existing applications that require ASP.NET 1.1 and will not run on ASP.NET 2.0
Thanks in advance!

Hi,
I currently have SQL Server Express and SQL Server Management Studio Express v.9.00.1399.00 (CTP). Both were installed in Dec 2005. I have not updated these products since then and have noticed that there is now a SP2 available, which I would like to install
I also have VWD, VB and VC# Express editions. However, for these I have already installed SP1
I understand that that I need to uninstall SQL Server and SSMSE before I can install SP2 or SP2 with Advanced Services. What would happen to the other Express editions just mentioned (VWD, VB, VC#)? Do they need to be uninstalled too? Or will they continue to work as normal if I don´t re-install?
Many thanks in advance for your help,
Chris

I am running Windows XP Pro. When trying to install MSDE, sql2ksp3, i go to the command line and enter:
setup SAPWD=somegreatpassword SECURITYMODE=SQL and off it goes, gathering information and starting to install.
After a short period of time where the status bar shows about 9 seconds left the status bar runs backwards down to zero and installation stops.
No error message, no crashes, just packs up its tent and goes away.
I have tried running setup from a batch file with the same results.
I have turned off my antivirus program as well as all other programs.
Need Input! - Thanks - T.C.

When I open the Command Prompt, it defaults into my documents and setting - I can't get a C: prompt. My login is the Admin and the old Administrator account isn't listed anywhere on my computer. Am I screwed? Do I have to reinstall XP and have the seperate Admin account? Please help.

My question is:
Is it better to have SMS reside on a different sever than a server that is using SQL or is more effecient to have SMS and SQL residing on the same server being that SMS backend is SQL Server? What factors do I need to consider in trying to make this decision? Thanks to whoever can help with this.
