Hi All,
I have successfully installed MSSQL server 2005 on virtual machine running on XPSP2. No error messages were shown durring the installation. Still I do not see it working at all. There are no services insltalled for the SQL Server and it can not be accessed by any other applications.
If anyone has an idea why this is happening, please help?!
Given than once SQL Server 2005 is installed, SQL Server Studio has to be used instead of Enterprise manager, can both SQL 2000 and 2005 be used on the same machine, be it development or production? (The second one to be installed probably would be a named instance.) Any experiance of doing this or a pointer to a Microsoft recommendation would be appreciated.
I'm trying to install the common components for SQL 2005 on a server that already has Reporting Services 2005 installed on it. It keeps comng up with an error: "To change an existing instance of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 to a different edition of SQL Server 2005, you must run SQL Server 2005 Setup from the command prompt and include the SKUUPGRADE=1 parameter."
The Reporting Services install has had SP2 applied to it, would that be what is messing up the install?
I have very little experience with SQL so any info would be helpful.
I really need some help. This is what I'm trying to do: first of all, i have a PC running Vista. Now on that PC, i have a virtual machine using VMWare Workstation 6, which has Win XP with SP2 installed on it. On the virtual machine, i have Visual Studio 2005 and SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with SP2; now, the thing is, i have a program in C#, which is supposed to connect to a network, but since I'm running on just one PC which is not connected to a network, i instead connect to 127.0.0.1 via port 1433. Now here's where my problems start. At first, i could not connect because i kept receiving an error which said "An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provedier: TCP provider, error: 0 - No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.)". A friend of my mine helped, so i did the following: i went into SQL Server Surface Area Configuration (configuration for localhost) , changed the remote connections to allow for both local and remote, using both TCP/IP and named pipes, restarted the database engine, started the SQL Server Browser; then i went to administrator tools, Data Sources (ODBC), and from System DSN tried to add an SQL Server. I gave it a name, and on the server textbox i tried typing "localhost", but doing so, i could not get past the next screen, (i did specify the port as 1433) where i have to chose between win nt and sql server authentication, and neither would work (even though i know the sa password and can log on to SQL Management Studio using that password). Then i tried copying the server name from the management studio, as the server when trying to add the system DSN. That seems to have worked, and i finished ading the SQL Server to the System DSN, using the database which i wanted. But after all these steps, i still get the exact same error as before - "An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provedier: TCP provider, error: 0 - No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.)".If someone can please help - i've tried everything i can think of - i can access the internet from the virtual machine, i even tried disabling the firewall, but no luck. Is it because of the virtual machine? If so, can anyone suggest a solution? I actually doubt it, because i've even tried to install it on my pc, not the virtual machine, so on vista - and also installed SP1 for VS 2005 and SP1 for Vista, but still the same thing. Sorry for making this post so long, but if anyone can help, i'd really appreciate it. Thanks!
While I am trying to install SQL server 2005 I get the following message - "Machine does not have a product that matches the installation package". The installation does not occur.
I am using Windows 2000 Professional SP4 and using 32 bit installer - SQLServer2005SP2-KB921896-x86-ENU.exe

I want to use partition function with the enterprise edition, will the trial version of sql server work for me? -If I have already created a database and tables using the standard edition, will I be able to access and use the database using the installed trial version or will I have to start a fresh creating a new database? - Is it possible to access the same database with any of the installed versions?

Hi All, I think I need someone to look over my issues with installing the Reporting service. So, if anyyou could take a look at this would be much appreciated. In the Configured Report Server window for the Database setup, I get green lights in the Task Status but, a yellow triangle status telling me that €œalthough saving the database connection succeeded, the report server can not access internal information€? and €œ If you are configuring a scale-out deployment, this feature is not supported by this edition. To continue use another report server database or remove the encryption keys from the current database before initializing the report server€?. Any ideas on how to solve this? Thanks
Is it possible to install sql server enterprise edition on an xp machine (home or professional)? I tried both (w/sp2) and it said it can only be run as a client.

Hi all, Im new here so il start with a little introduction of myself, My name is Arjan im 19 years old from Holland, and i work for a company to compleet my ICT Education.
My situation:
My boss gave me a server with server 2003 standard and Sql server 2005 and visual studio 2005 installed already, he asked me if i could figure out how the 'new' reporting services work, Im pretty new to SQL and the reporting service but i figured out i had to install asp.net / frameworks and IIS.
So right now i wanna start the Reporting Services Configuration Manager and i get an error that says 'Invalid namespace' and when im trying to approach by using my browser i get 'page not found' so obviously their is Alot wrong. I asked my boss if i could not reinstall everything and do it in the correct order (IIS / ASP.net / Frameworks before installing SQL server 2k5 but that was not an option because we dont seem to have the cd's anymore.
The server is not connected to any network or the internet.
My Question:
Is their any way to fix this? and if yes could anyone tell me where to start
Thanks in Advance!
ps if their is information or logs that u need in order to help me just say so :-)
I am trying to install SQL 2005 in a 2-node virtual Windows 2003 cluster. I set the cluster up through Virtual Server 2005 with 2 virtual nodes and one virtual domain. The nodes can connect to each other as well as the physical machine. When I try to install a fresh copy of SQL 2005 on my cluster, I get an error every time. The error stops the installation while checking system configuration after installing prerequisites. The log file entry is as follows:

Does enabling/disabling Data Execution Prevention have a performanceimpact on SQL 2000 or SQL 2005?For SQL best performance - how should I configure for:Processor Scheduling:Programs or Background servicesMemory Usage:Programs or System Cache
I have a clustered environment where I have virtual servers running and I have SQL 2005 on one of the virtual servers. Is there any way to have multiple SQL instances running on one virtual server, if so how? If this is not possible than what are some of my options? Thank you, Kern Probation
I am unable to successfully complete an install of Visual Studio 2005 with SQL Server 2005 Express on a Virtual PC 2004 image, which seems to be a pretty reasonable expectation. The installation completes successfully all of the way through in a Windows XP Pro SP2 image, but at the end the installation program informs you that SQL Server Express has failed to install, with no other explanation. No setup log files give any information as to why the installation failed. Then I see in the fine print for SQL Server Express downloads that "There is no support in this release for Virtual Server, Virtual PC". (http://download.microsoft.com/download/c/c/6/cc66b572-a402-4c6a-8233-b9c7d05840c7/RequirementsSQLEXP2005.htm)
Sql 2005 Enterprise fails to install on a 64 bit VmWare Windows 2003 virtual server. All componets install up to including the Reporting services. The next componet (I believe it is the management studio portion) fails to install. I have moved the install files to the local machine and this did not help. If someone knows how to fix this please share.
I have a failed sql cluster setup on Windows 2003 OS cluster. sql will not uninstall on node 1 because it says the group name was not specified in the template.ini file for the cluster. The OS cluster nodes have been evicted from the cluster. The OS cluster is no longer available to provide a group name for.
SQl uninstall process process is failing because of the error mentioned above.
I want to completely , uninstall SQL server from both nodes, clean up Windows Server and install just a default instance of SQL server on just one of the machines, The cluster can wait.
We are in the processes of finalising or server architecture for our production environment and the proposal that has been put forward is to run the database within SQL Server 2005 which is running in a virtual machine. It is thought (by some) that this provides a very high degree of redundancy as it will use ESX server and will have multiple servers in the farm that it can move to in the event of a server crash (which i admit makes a degree of sense).
I however am worried about performance. I release as soon as you go to virtual you loose some raw power because the box is busy running the virtual but more from the point of view that if we make cretin hardware resources available to the virtual would the server run the same as if it was running on a physical machine of the same specifications. For example, if 4gb ram and x amount of clock cycles where dedicated to the virtual would it preform the same as running it on a physical box 4gb ram and x amount of clock cycles. If the answer is no, any supporting documentation that anyone knows of would be greatly appreciated.
As a side note if it makes any difference the database data files and transaction logs are being sorted in an external SAN and not within the virtual image itself.
Curious on how this will work.. if i install sql 2005 standard edition on one virtual server.. to a fixed disk (actually 2 fixed disks.. one for C, one for D).. then install another 2005 standard edition on another virtual server.. do i just rerun the setup and suddenly the failover cluster option will NOT be greyed out?
DB is developed on local computer with MSSQL 2005 Express. My host is on MSSQL 2005 workgroup. Are they compatible, because I am getting errors? Is my approach wrong?
I have tried several approaches.
A) I created a backup of database on my local, then placed a copy on the server. Then I tried to restore through Server Management Studio. I get this error.
TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio
------------------------------
An exception occurred while executing a Transact-SQL statement or batch. (Microsoft.SqlServer.ConnectionInfo)
------------------------------
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
The backed-up database has on-disk structure version 611. The server supports version 539 and cannot restore or upgrade this database.
RESTORE FILELIST is terminating abnormally. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 3169)

B: I also have tried copying the database. I put it in the same path as the other databases that can be read with server management studio on the server. Then, tried to get to it through server managements studio and it did not appear. So I tried to attach it. Then I received this error:

C: I have also tried opening the Database, and back up file through Server Management Studio. without success.
D: I also tried Windows and Software update at microsoft update, but no updates were recommended for Version on Server.
I'm surprised this is so hard. My original data base was created in same family of software. 2005 MS SQL Express. I could use some direct help from someone experienced with this. Am I doing it wrong or are the DB versions incompatible.
