Installing Full Version Of 2005 Server On A Machine That Already Has Reporting Services On It

I'm trying to install the common components for SQL 2005 on a server that already has Reporting Services 2005 installed on it. It keeps comng up with an error:
"To change an existing instance of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 to a different edition of SQL Server 2005, you must run SQL Server 2005 Setup from the command prompt and include the SKUUPGRADE=1 parameter."
The Reporting Services install has had SP2 applied to it, would that be what is messing up the install?
I have very little experience with SQL so any info would be helpful.

Jan 8, 2006Hi, i have sql server 2005 standard installed on my machine. I want to work on express edition and learn about it but on the installation its gets stuck because a higher version is installed. If the express version is free why cant have both versions installed on my machine. Thank you.

and i need to test 2000, 2005 express and a full version of 2005 and compact all on the same machine.
Has anyone done something like this and are there any issues with this?
i have seen some threads about 2000 and 2005 being fine as long as one is a default instance and one is a named instance. Would i be able to do the same with say express being the default instance and then 2000 and 2005 both having named instances? And is there a particular order i should install? I already have 2005 express as the default instance and compact installed already.

I have successfully installed MSSQL server 2005 on virtual machine running on XPSP2. No error messages were shown durring the installation. Still I do not see it working at all. There are no services insltalled for the SQL Server and it can not be accessed by any other applications.
If anyone has an idea why this is happening, please help?!

Issues With Microsoft SQL Serever 2005 Express Edition And Other Versions Of SQL Express
Feb 20, 2007I have uninstalled the SQL Server Express Edition that I have installed from the CDs that were given to me during a Chicago Conference when READY TO LAUNCH Visual Studio 2005, SQL SERVER 2005, and Biz Talk 2005.
Then I went to microsoft website: http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/sql/register/default.aspx and downloaded and installed the so called Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition and I got the messages Error that you read below. Then I Uninstalled Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition and went again to msdn website and downloaded Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Advanced Services SP1 and installed it. I got again the same message as below.
MESSAGE:
1. First comes a window with the title: €œsetup.exe €“ Unable to Locate Component€?
And it displays a message:
This application has failed to start because MSTDCPRX.dll was not found.
Re-installing the application may fix this problem.
2. After I click the OK button of this window it comes another window with the title: €œMicrosoft SQL Server 2005 Server Setup€?
And it displays a message: Failed to load SqlSpars.dll
Does anybody can tell what is going on with the 3 times I tried to installed different SQL Server 2005 Express Edition and I get the same message?????

Aug 5, 2006I have done a full Sql Server install on a server and the SSIS service is not available. Normally when I load Sql Server I get €œSQL Server Integration Services" as a service that I can start. On this machine it is not listed after the install. I don't get any errors through out the install.

Dec 31, 2005I have first installed SQL Server 2005 and after that SQL Express 2005. In machine.config I set the LocalSqlServer, needed for membership and stuff, to my SQL Server (using aspnet_regsql.exe tool). But because I saw some interesting articles with sample code that use .mdf files I also installed SQL Express.But the problem is that every time I want to execute something against .mdf file or want to see the tables in server explorer I get this error message:Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to a failure in starting the process for the user instance. The connection will be closed.I also stopped SQL Server process but that didn't do the trick. What do I have to do to get these 2 working on my laptop?

Is it possible? I have Microsoft windows server 2003 SP2 and 1GB RAM.
I want to use partition function with the enterprise edition, will the trial version of sql server work for me?
-If I have already created a database and tables using the standard edition, will I be able to access and use the database using the installed trial version or will I have to start a fresh creating a new database?
- Is it possible to access the same database with any of the installed versions?
BTW, I am prety new to sql server and databases , I am trying to learn by myself

Nov 11, 20061. The title of this post says it all. My app will have a very small footprint to down load. I don't want to user to have to download 50 + MB just to try my little $15 app:-) So
QUESTION 1 - Will SQL Express be in the Vista bits? If so which versions?
2. Once SQLExpress is installed by whatever means, are there rules about how the instance is used? I have no problems playing well with others so I would be more than happy to create my DB in .SQLExpress.
QUESTION 2 - Are there any rules governing who can play in the Express instance? How should dtabases should be named to avoid collisions with the other kids?
3. I'd love to be able to work in in ClickOnce / user never has to have admin password environment.
QUESTION 3 - Besides UAC are there any constraints on writing to a properly installed Express instance that would get in the way of a pure user application from using the basic instance.
4. Right now - because I can't read directions and still don't understand the smoke and mirrors in VS 2005 when it comes to dealing with databases - I have DDL in my program that allows me to create my database from scratch. Not sure that this is the right way to go.
QUESTION 4. What is the best way for an user software to create its database in an instance of SQL Express.
5. SQL Express is yet another thingie that will run in the background that the typical user won't understand and wont' give a hoot about.
QUESTION 5. Can I / should I programmatically worry about whether the service is up and running? If so how do I launch it.
I know this is a lot for a single post, but it all sort of hangs together.

Can't Connect To SQL Server 2005 Express From Another Machine
Aug 1, 2006I know there have been many posts made on this subject; however, despite the resources available, I have not been able to get this to work! I've spent time working on this here and there over the last couple of months only resulting in frustration. I am finally posting to solicit help for my situation to figure out what is wrong with my SQL Server or firewall configuration.
Two machines connected to a router, one wireless, one wired. Both have SQL Server Express and the Management Studio tools installed. From either machine I can connect to its local SQL Server Express instance.
I have enabled Shared Memory, Named Pipes, TCP/IP, and VIA in the SQL Server Configuration Manager. (BTW what is VIA?)
I have added sqlsrvr.exe and sqlbrowser.exe to my Windows Firewall exceptions. I have tried disabling Windows Firewall. One of the machines is configured as DMZ in the router configuration.
Please, someone offer up some brilliant diagnostic steps I am missing to expose what is wrong in my setup and make this work... Thank you!

I have a PC running the 64 bit version of vista home premium (will be soon upgrading to ultimate).
On the download page http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-au/express/bb410792.aspx for SQL Server Express under the section entitled SQL Server 2005 Express Edition SP2 it mentions at the bottom of the page (referred by * & **) that there is a 64 bit install version available for both SQL Server & management Studio.
However, under the section entitled SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services SP2, there is no * or **. As far as I can tell, the Advanced services has Reporting Services as well.
So, what I am wondering is, can I specifically download the 64 bit versions of SQL server express & management studio and as well, download just the reporting services part of Advanced Services?

Before I allways created a database manually and I could allways use as many databases I needed so in that way I could have several versions of a database for a certain software during development. Can you use separeted databasenames when developing in SQL Express? I am using a dotnetnuke installation file and inside the project there is a file /App_Data/Database.mdf should this file be renamed everytime I make a new testinstallation or setting up a separate dev environment /Johan
