I'm installing SQL7 on an NT4 SP5 server. It tells me it needs to check the ODBC drivers but then says they are
being held by an application. There are no ODBC drivers installed on this machine to be held.
What do I do? Install some drivers?
Hallo, my problem is to upgrade instance of SQL7 to SQL7 SP4.
Server is WIN2K SP4 + MDAC 2.8 SP1
Installing the SQL7 Server from CD is OK.
When i try to apply the SQL7 SP4 the first fase, when SP4 checks all conditions to start is OK, when start to copy file i receive an error -113 like this
On server is installed the library SQLDMO.DLL for SQL2000 but only the library used by an application VB6.
In need to install SQL7 and i can't install SQL2000 or SQL2005 because we work with an application written for SQL7. I've tried to migrate application SQL2000 but not work properly.
I have been asked to install Sql 7 on a Win2K server. I am looking for White papers, articles, postings etc which identify potential issues or known issues. I have looked through MSDN, Win2K, Microsoft Sql7 and TechNet for specifics. Any suggestions?
We have multiple NT machines which have/require Service Pack 3 installed and run an application which makes an ODBC connection to an SQL 7 DB. Some of them are experiencing ODBC issues.
Question: Are there any known ODBC compatability issues with machines runnings service pack 3 ODBC connecting to SQL 7 running NT Service Pack 4?
hi , i have a problem here.. we are having sql 6.5 and 7.0 ... One of my user is trying is using ACCESS AND POWERBUILDER applications to connect to sql server. With powerbuilder he is only able to connect to 6.5 only, he is getting problem with 7.0. when he tried to connect to 7.0 thru powerbuilder it is saying unable to connect to database LOGIN INCORRECT. is it requires any new drivers with 7.0( i am using sp2).. Pls help me in this regard.. Thank u
I have just installed SQL Server 2005, default settings. I have attempted to add a new ODBC driver using Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Data Sources (ODBC) - System DSN tab - Add - SQL Server - default settings, but it fails.
I did all this for MySQL some months ago, but I must have forgotten something.
I'm currently receiving the following error message whilst attempting to install SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition on Windows Server 2003 (32 Bit): Error 29528. The setup has encountered an unexpected error while Installing performance counters. The error is: The system cannot find the file specified.
This server already has an install of SQL Server 2000 as the default instance. I'm attempting to install a new named instance of SQL Server 2005.

You can ignore this and it will complete the installation, but subsequently trying to patch with SP2 will fail on the same sections - Hotfix.exe crashes whilst attempting to patch Database Services, Integration Services and Client Components (3 separate crashes).
I've removed SQL Server 2005 elements and tried to re-install, but it's not improved the situation.
I'm attemting to replicate from a SQL7 box to SQL2000.
The snapshot works fine, but it fails when it tries to push the subscription to the SQL2000 box with a trust error (I don't recall the exact message). I noticed that it fails when Enterprise Mgr is configured as: "Tools/Replication/Configure Publishing, Subscribers and Distribution", Subscriber Tab, "Impersonating SQL Service Agent". It works if I change to "SA".
This is only the case when we replicate from SQL7 to SQL2K. SQL7 to SQL7 works fine with "Impersonating". Has anybody seen this behavior? Any workarounds, other than using SA?
I am running SQL7 SP2 on a Compaq Proliant 5500 (NT4 Server SP6a) with dual processor. When trying to schedule any jobs with DTSRUN I get the following error:

I have a SQL6.5 sp5a, NT4 sp5, BDC, IE5 server that I have installed SQL7 on. My installation is set to mixed security.

I don't find anything about this anywhere except the upgrading to SQL7 white paper, it mentions that the text for objects must be intact in the syscomments system table and that logins must exist for every database user, but that doesn't really tell me how to fix this.
Has any one seen these errors or can point me to where on Microsoft's site you can now EASILY get KB info for SQL Server 7?
In SQL 7 DTS I'm creating a Data Driven Query Tasks. When I get to writing the transformations in VB Script and try using the Test button to test the script, I get the following message:
Error Source: Microsoft Data Transformation Services Flat File Rowset Provider Error opening datafile. The system cannot find the file specified.
The documentation says:
[The transformation is tested] by executing it against a part of the source data and copying the results to a temporary text file, for preview purposes.
I can find no place to specify what temporary file is used for the test result and, because it is temporary, have assumed the system creates and deletes it as needed.
Is this true?
I get this test error for every transformation. even those that work correctly when the DTS package is actually executed.
What can I do to get the transformations to test properly?
Any help or hints will be greatly appreciated.

I have backup of data from SQL Server 7.0 and now when i'm trying to restore it into SQL Express 2005, I'm getting following error......
-------------------- Msg 3154, Level 16, State 2, Line 1 The backup set holds a backup of a database other than the existing 'GOSLDW' database. Msg 3013, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 RESTORE DATABASE is terminating abnormally. --------------------
Here is SQL i'm using to restore database,
RESTORE DATABASE GOSLDW FROM DISK = 'C:sqlserverDataGOSLDW' WITH MOVE 'GOSLDW' TO 'C:sqlserverDataGOSLDW.mdf', MOVE 'GOSLDW' TO 'C:sqlserverDataGOSLDW.ldf' GO
Why i'm getting this error? Am i missing anything here?
On localhost this application works fine but when I put on remote server. I am getting following errors. For both localhost and server, I am using same remote sql 2000. I will appreciate any help.
Thanks,
Arif

Usually the ".Update" triggers the exception, but sometimes the other sql commands do it. Have tried various experiments with disposing of objects immediately when finished, but no effect. Opening and closing the connection each loop seems to delay the errors, but it still happens eventually.
When our administrators login on the workstation the application works well. But when ordinary users login they get the following error. (We only have 1 domain)
SQLState: 28000
SQL Server Error: 18452
Login failed for user ". The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection.
Then the standard SQL Server Login window pops up asking for the Login ID and Password. On the window the 'Use Trusted Connection' is checked and the name of the user on the workstation appears on the LoginID. What we do is uncheck the 'Use Trusted Connection' then login using the credentials above.
I keep getting this error: OLE DB error: OLE DB or ODBC error: You do not have permission to run 'SP_TRACE_CREATE'.; 42000
I do not want to add the login account to sysadmin role on my production server and giving the logon account db_reader rights to my database is not working. Is there another way around it.
I have tried installing SQL Express using the latest download. I've also intalled the latest Windows Installer (3.1) but I have the following error message (taken from log). All contributions gratefully accepted
I have been searching high and low for days and I am perplexed and appalled at the lack of information regarding what can not be an isolated incident.
We are trying to get an Analysis Services 2005 to process on a x64 server. We have both versions of the Oracle client installed and .ora file in both places. I have seen a couple of posts regarding this issue, but they are 2 years old and MS was supposed to have resolved the 'parentheses' issue long ago.
The test connection succeeds, and I can explore the data in the datasource view, but I cannot process the cube. All I get is the "OLE DB error: OLE DB or ODBC error: Class not registered"
Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise x64 Editon Service Pack 2
Installed Oracle Client 10g and ODAC home
I tried a few things that were suggested in posts, but nothing has worked. I tried the cmd line starting SSMS from progra~2 instead of (x86). I tried renaming the directory with no parentheses. This is the second time we've tried to get it to work in 2 years. We'll probably give up again and stay with x86, um, because it works without all these silly mickey-mouse tricks. Most of our relational DBs are ORACLE so this is a showstopper for us as far as trying to go x64.
Sorry for the attitude, but I'm really frustrated!
If anyone can tell me a way to resolve this (or that it can't be resolved), I'd really appreciate it!
How can I copy a SQL 7 database from one server to another? Please tell me all the ways because I've tried the obvious and it doesn't work. (backup and restore - won't go from one server to another, DTS transfer object Wizard - does a whole pile of errors and doesn't do stored proceedures and trigures). Thanks for help in advance. Also, what is the email address to post to the listserv and where is the FAQ for SQL7? Most of my listserv's tell you where to post right at the bottom of the digest I get - any chance you guys would do that with this list? Thanks again.

i'm trying to install MS server 2000 components and I continuously get the same error. "A previous program installation created pending file operations on the installation machine. I've rebooted 100 times, turned the machine on and off, installed other programs, etc. and stil I get the error ONLY when I try to install the components.
I'm getting this bizarre error installing SP2 despite the fact that I'm an adminstrator on the box. Any ideas?
