I am currently having problems with the SQL Server 2005 Developer.
1. I have a Windows XP SP2 Japanese version.
2. This machine is connected to a domain managed by Linux server.
3. I login with a domain account and install.
Initially, the intallations were failing with an error message that I do not have
administrator right.
We created an account on my machine with the same user name as that used
for the domain, and gave this administrator rights.
With this the installation was completed. However, there is another problem,
I cannot connect to the SQL Server.
For the installation, I chose "Local System" with Windows Authentication,
but the connection to the database still fails with the error message that remote
connection is not supported. I do not understand why I need TCP to accesss a local
installation of the SQL Server.
However, I followed the procedure outlined in a MS KB to enable TCP. But the
connection to the database still fails.
I am using the Management Studio to connect to SQL Server. I have also tried creating
a database in VS. NET 2005 and this also fails. I have checked the services and all are running.
What is wrong and what can I do? (it takes more than an hour to install this stuff and it is
really consuming my time). Any help?
I've done this before but it's been sometime. When I finish installing the MS SQL Server 2005 Developer edition, all I see under the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 folder in the All Programs is Configuration Tools with the following shortcuts: Notification Services Command PromptSQL Server Configuration ManagerSQL Server Error and Usage ReportingSQL Server Surface Area Configuration The are a whole bunch of other programs inside the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 folder that are missing. How do I add those services or program such as the Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio?
Hello, When installing SQL Server 2005 developer, I get the error: Product : Visual Studio Integrated Development Environment 2005Error : Internal Error 2356. _14248_Microsoft_VC80_MFC_x86.msm Any idea why this is happening? Thanks.
Hi Everyone, Recently I installed Visual Studio 2005 which also installed SQL Express Edition with it. I then installed SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition and am now able to see two instances SQLEXPRESS and MSSQLERVER. I do not want to use the Express version anymore, Do I have to have the Express version running or can I have just the Developer Edition ? Please help, can't find any help on the SQL website! Thanks
I am unable to successfully install SQL Server 2005 Developer edition here on a machine at work. Database service and client tools fails to install. I get the message that:"The computer running SQL Server setup does not meet the minimum system requirements for this SQL server release. Microsoft SQL Server is not supported by this operating system."
I am running Win XP pro sp2 with all the latest updates installed. What could be causing this and how do I fix it?
I am awaiting for my developer edition to come through, and was just wondering. I will be installing onto vista premium. so Do i install the SQL server first and then the Service pack afterwards, or the other way around
I'm new to SQL Server and am now learning how to operate SQL Server Express 2005.
I'm getting the following error when attempting to install Visual Web Developer 2005 SP1.
"The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program. Verify that the program to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the correct upgrade patch"
My machine runs on XP Pro SP2, .NET Framework 3.5.
Currently, what i have got on the computer are as follows Microsoft SQL Server 2005: SQL Server Management Studio Express, SQL Server Configuration Manager.
I tring to install SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition on Windows XP Pro but i not able to to so because of the following errors:-
Action "OpenPipeAction" failed during execution Action "CreatePipeAction" failed during execution. MsiOpenDatabase failed with 87 MsiOpenDatabase failed with 87 for MSI
Action "InstallDTSAction.9" failed during execution. Error information reported during run: Action: "InstallDTSAction.9" will be marked as failed due to the following condition: Condition "Package "9" either passed when it was last installed, or it has not been executed yet" returned false. Condition context: Prereq package will be failed due to the previous installation attempt returning: 1605
I downloaded SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition (x86) via MSDNAA (the package conatins 2 cd images the download program CRC checked them and all. I'm trying to install it on Windows XP prof. sp2).
When I mount the first CD, the installation menu comes up, if from the Install menu I select
"Server components, tools, Books Online, and samples"
an error message pops up saying:
"The application or DLL D:Setupsetupex.dll is not a valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette."
When I press OK, it pops up again, then after clicking on OK one more time the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Setup window comes up. After accepting the installation conditions and clicking next, it takes me to the "Installing Prerequisites" phrase, where when I press the Install button, it writes:
"Errors occured during the installation:
Error 193 installing .NET Framework 2.0"
Then the installation freezes, and I must press cancel (after that, the installation breaks saying: SQL Server Setup unexpectedly failed...)
If in the installation menu I choose
"
Install SQL Server Upgrade Advisor"
or
"
Run the SQL Native Client Installation Wizard"
a warning pops up saying:
"This installation package could not be opened.
Contact the application vendor to verify that this is a
valid Windows Installer package."
When I press OK, the warning disappeares, nothing happens.
I have .NET Framework 2.0, running VS2005 Prof. with no problem, had MS SQL Server 2005 Express Edition, but uninstalled it (never used), and just installed the latest MSI.
Searched the net for the "error 193" message, but haven't found anything that actually could help my case.
I get the following error installing SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition
Failed to install and configure assemblies C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90DTSTasksMicrosoft.SqlServer.MSMQTask.dll in the COM+ catalog. Error: -2146233087 Error message: Unknown error 0x80131501 Error description: You must have administrative credentials to perform this task. Contact your system administrator for assistance.
I am installing on Windows XP with Admin privs.
There is nothing listed in COM+ Services for SQL.
The Distributed Transaction Coordinator service is running.
There is a previous installation of SQL 2000 Developer Edition installed.
I have seen some pretty old posts with the same error.
I was wondering if there was a final resolution, service pack, etc. that solves this problem?
I have just installed Visual Studio 2005, but I cannot install MS Sql Server 2005 at all. It gives me an error that says look in Program FilesMS SQL Server90Setup BootstrapLOGFiles and there is a file which contains the following:

Also, the SQL Server express also did not install at all when I was installing VS 2005 Pro.
I have a problem installing SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition.
When I start the setup, I get the message:
"SQL Server Setup could not run. Another instance of SQL Server Setup is already running. The running instance must complete before you can run SQL Server Setup again"
I am using Windows XP and have SQL Server 2000 and SQL Server Express 2005 installed.
I shut down both instances before I attempted to do the install but I still get the message.
I checked active tasks but no tasks with SQL* is running.
I downloaded the 2 CD ISO Format from msdn to install SQL Server 2005 English Developer Edition on my XP SP2 box.
I currently have SQL 2000 running. So Sql Server 2005 Dev Edition is to run side by side in a named instance.
From CD1, I launched default.hta and could not install Database Services. The log mentioned could not find a 'valid copy of xxx.msi' where xxx is VSS writer, Database Services or SQL XML4 etc...
I tried 3 times and each time it damaged my SQL2000 beyond repair.
I am installing SQL 2005 developer edition on windows 2000. The server met all requirements for the installation. I get an €œUnexpected error occurred€? at the end of the installation right when the SQL engine installation is completed.
Looking at the error logs, on the setup0001 (core) file I get the following error: Has anyone encountered this :

I am having this problem since I installed the new windows Vista.
I am trying to install the SQL Server 2005 developer edition on Windows Vista, but After installation finish successfuly I open the start menu to surprise that I could not find the Shortcuts to open the SQL Server and create new database and tables etc... I opened the full path of the exe files "C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90ToolsBinnVSShellCommon7IDE" but there are not any file there, even that I searched for the exe files names but they are not existed. It looks that after instalation complete that the SQL Server is not installed on Windows Vista.
So, my question is: After installing the SQL Server 2005 SP2 for windows Vista, will the problem be solved? Or there is something else to do ON WINDOWS VISTA.
Please, I need the answer for this problem, because I need to work on SQL Server 2005 very hard.
I've downloaded & installed Visual Web developer Express and SQL Server Express and now I'm trying to install the Reporting Add-In available here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/downloads/default.aspx
It downloads just fine and, just as the installation progress bar is almost done and the status text says 'Registering Product', I get the following error message:
"There is a problem with this windows installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personell or package vendor"
Running VWD shows the ReportViewer control now appears in the 'data' group. I can add it to a form, but I cannot create a new report, as clicking on 'Design a new report' under the ReportView Tasks popup menu does nothing.
I installed both SQL 2005 developer and SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services SP2 and Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition Toolkit.
In every version "SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio" was missing. I uninstalled and reinstalled both version but always "SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio" was not available and the computer could not find devenv.exe file.
I installed visual studio 2008 as well. For some reason the start menu link for "SQL Server Business Intelligence Development Studio" is ""C:Program FilesMicrosoft Visual Studio 8Common7IDEdevenv.exe"" and devenv.exe is not there or anywhere
Hi, I have Vista Home premium edition and trying to install SQL Server developer edition 2005 as local administrator. I have already enabled IIS 7 and have Office Ultimate 2007 installed. When I run the set up program, I get a warning titled "Program Compatibility Assistant" that my Operating system may not be compatible with the version of sql server I am installing. It says after setup is complete, I should run SP2 of SQL Server 2005 with 3 buttons as "Check for solutions online", "run this program" and "cancel"...
My question, should I select "run this program" and after the setup completes, download SP2 and apply the patch?
I read some articles in forums that sounds like lot of issues to get sql server working on vista. Can some one direct me to correct options. This is my wife's machine so I dont want to experiment too much and blow her machine away. Please help.
I've installed Windows 2003 SP2 in a stand-alone cluster (will be adding a second node later). I'm now installing SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition 64-bit extended and would like to have the "Create a SQL Server Failover Cluster" box to not be grayed out. Even when I check the "SQL Server Database Services" box, it still has the cluster box grayed out.
Can someone here confirm or deny that Visual Web Developer 2005 Express Edition doesn't work with SQL Server Developer Edition 2005?
I was about to order SQL Server Developer Edition 2005 on Amazon, to use with Visual Web Developer 2005 Express, when I read a user comment that the two are incompatible with each other. Does anyone know for sure if that is true?
What I'm wanting to do is develop an ASP.NET web application on a web host using a SQL Server database. I use VS2003 and SQL Server Enterprise 2000 at work, but I'd like to learn the 2005 editions for this side project. I don't own any of the developer tools/IDEs personally, so I'm trying to find the most affordable way to do this for my home business.
Well I have completely reformatted my computer and reinstalled windows XP professional with all the updates, xp service pack 2 and .net framework 1.1. Now when I try to install sql server 2000 developer, I get the following message where it asks Local Account or Domain account (I choose Domain):
The logon account cannot be validated for the SQL server service. Verify that the user name and password entered are correct. The logon attempt failed
I am using the administrators account, I didn't have a password on it so I created one but this makes no difference. I also tried creating a new user account with admin rights but this also fails to solve the problem.
There are conflicting postings everywhere about this. I built a small site using VWD and SQL Server Express, but need to convert to Sql Server 2005 Developer because the DB will exceed 4Gb. Tried to install and could not connect or use from VWD. Tried to uninstall, got into large mess with the byzantine uninstall process, and have now started with a clean machine.
I installed SQL Server 2005 Developer first, then installed VWD Express 2008 without installing SQL Server Express. VWD won't let me connect to an existing database, won't let me add a new database and doesn't even show the Database Tools option under the Tools menu.
Is there someone with specific knowledge that can provide any enlightenment? Would be much appreciated.
I have a real installation mess n my hands. I'm attempting to install Sql Server Developer edition on a new Thinkpad with Vista Ultimate. There are no issues with limited resources. This copy of Vista Ultimate came with a trial copy of Office 2007 and SQLExpress was intalled with it. I unistalled SQLExpress being unaware of the Vista Compatibility problems. SQL Developer did not install after I removed SQLE. After researching this on the net, I read that developer could be installed as an upgrade if SQLE is on the system. So Installed SQLE with advanced tools deliberately not installing the tools. That installation went well. So then I tried to reinstall SQL Developer and received a message about having to setup via command line because of an exisiting instance. So I installed Developer with the folowing command line from an MSDN DVD.
I chose the advanced options specifiying that the tools be installed. That installation failed to install the tools and I believe there was an error in the core data engine installation. I received an error message to check the logs but to be honest, there are meagbytes of log files and I don't really know what to check.
The core log looked like this:
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Setup beginning at Mon Oct 29 11:11:04 2007 Process ID : 4816 E:ENGLISHSQL2005DEVELOPERSQL Server x86Serverssetup.exe Version: 2005.90.1399.0 Running: LoadResourcesAction at: 2007/9/29 11:11:3 Complete: LoadResourcesAction at: 2007/9/29 11:11:3, returned true Running: ParseBootstrapOptionsAction at: 2007/9/29 11:11:3 Loaded DLL:E:ENGLISHSQL2005DEVELOPERSQL Server x86Serversxmlrw.dll Version:2.0.3604.0 Complete: ParseBootstrapOptionsAction at: 2007/9/29 11:11:4, returned true Running: ValidateWinNTAction at: 2007/9/29 11:11:4 Complete: ValidateWinNTAction at: 2007/9/29 11:11:4, returned true Running: ValidateMinOSAction at: 2007/9/29 11:11:4 Complete: ValidateMinOSAction at: 2007/9/29 11:11:4, returned true Running: PerformSCCAction at: 2007/9/29 11:11:4 Complete: PerformSCCAction at: 2007/9/29 11:11:4, returned true Running: ActivateLoggingAction at: 2007/9/29 11:11:4 Complete: ActivateLoggingAction at: 2007/9/29 11:11:4, returned true Running: DetectPatchedBootstrapAction at: 2007/9/29 11:11:4 Complete: DetectPatchedBootstrapAction at: 2007/9/29 11:11:4, returned true Running: LaunchPatchedBootstrapAction at: 2007/9/29 11:11:4 Error: Action "LaunchPatchedBootstrapAction" threw an exception during execution. Error information reported during run: "c:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90Setup Bootstrapsetup.exe" finished and returned: 1706 Aborting queue processing as nested installer has completed Message pump returning: 1706
I believe residual office files are throwing the installation off but that could be an erroneous conclusion as the OWC portion always fails with a 1706.
What I need is basic SQL functionality and it's really important that I have the Studio Management Console.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what log to check toward getting a core data engine installed along with the olls and documentation for SQL Developer?
I am having a major issue installing SQL Server 2000 through InstallShield using the three merge modules sent with it (and available on the SQL Server CD) Being:
SQLBASE SQLSVR SQLSVR_RES
The install builds fine and runs right upto the end of the copying, where it pauses for a few seconds and comes back with a dialog saying
Product: SQL Object Installer -- Setup failed to configure the server. Refer to the server error logs and setup error logs for more information.
SQL Object Installer being the package I created
So I do this, only to find the following error log:

I am stumped, I am not really the greatest with SQL Server so I don't really know where to start, the SCM line at the bottom of the errorlog doesn't tell me much as I can't see what would be sending the 'stop' request?
Could this be a permissions thing. I have set myself as the administrator on the machine and do have quite a few rights. The machine does not already have SQL Server on it as it is a fresh image of Windows 2000 (also tried on XP wth same result)
Any help on this would be most appreciated as all around me are stumped too.
Hello, I hope someone knows the answer to this issue. I am trying to install SQL Server 2000 Developer Edition and once I get to the screen that is asking for the SQL Server instance and Login Information I receive the following error when trying to proceed.

I have installed reporting services 2000 developer edition many times and I have never seen this error.

Hi all, Im new here so il start with a little introduction of myself, My name is Arjan im 19 years old from Holland, and i work for a company to compleet my ICT Education.
My situation:
My boss gave me a server with server 2003 standard and Sql server 2005 and visual studio 2005 installed already, he asked me if i could figure out how the 'new' reporting services work, Im pretty new to SQL and the reporting service but i figured out i had to install asp.net / frameworks and IIS.
So right now i wanna start the Reporting Services Configuration Manager and i get an error that says 'Invalid namespace' and when im trying to approach by using my browser i get 'page not found' so obviously their is Alot wrong. I asked my boss if i could not reinstall everything and do it in the correct order (IIS / ASP.net / Frameworks before installing SQL server 2k5 but that was not an option because we dont seem to have the cd's anymore.
The server is not connected to any network or the internet.
My Question:
Is their any way to fix this? and if yes could anyone tell me where to start
Thanks in Advance!
ps if their is information or logs that u need in order to help me just say so :-)
I'm trying to register a developer's 2000 pc from my 2005 pc.
i'm not sure this is even something possible from Dev Edition to Dev Edition- I can register a 2000 server just fine.
I can ping him. Both our systems have remote access 'on'. His server is (local), i've tried connecting to it by just entering his machine name and by using just the ip address. The error I get is "timeout expired. The timeout elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding."
Am I just not registering this properly? I entered just the ip address in the 'server' box. I am connecting as sa with the pw he gave me. When i connect to my server, I use the ip addressinstance. However, I am not sure what to use for the instance when all I see when I look at his machine is (local).
I currently have SQL Server Management Studio Express 2005 and would like to upgrade my machine to SQL Developer 2005 as easily as possible. Keeping my databases and such.
Any recommendations on the best way to do this would be greatly appreciated.
I'm trying to make some reports using the sql 2005 reporting services addin for Visual Web Developer Express 2005. I download the add-in here. So far it installed "successfully". The problem i have is when i try to add a datasource to the report at "Report > Data Sources... " it gives me an error saying: "The system cannot find the file specified."
Another Error it gives is that when I try to drag a DataSet field from the Website Data Sources toolbox tab the visual web developer crashes :/.
An observation that I don't know if this is ok is when I create a new Data Source it creates an App_Code folder inside where my report is /Reports/ and there it saves the DataSet. Just an observation...
This is my development enviorment:
