Installing Onto Windows 2003 Server For Multi-user Application

Good Day,
I have an application that is being developed on Visual Studio 2005 (VB) and SQL Express. The application is set up to use the SQL Express on the development computer, and if an Internet or CD install is built, it installs SQL Express as expected. The question is, when it is time to deploy and put the SQL Express database on the 2003 server, how should the install on the server be done and how should we set the database path to the server?
We've got a Windows 2003 (64 bit edition) box to use as our Database server.
I installed SQL Server 2005 (Standard Edition) on the machine, but I have a feeling it has installed the 32 bit version and not the 64 bit version.
The reason I think this is that the MSSQL directory is under the 32 bit program files directory and not the 64 bit directory, and also when I look at the service properties it says it's running from WOW6432 registry entry.
Is there a separate disc for the 64bit version? Does the installer automatically work out which version to install or is there some sort of switch I have to do to tell it to install the 64 bit version.
Has anyone run into the issue of installing SP1 on a 2003 R2 server?
I have seen a post or two on other sites but I cannot seem to find them again.
Install goes great up until it comes to the upgrading of SSIS (Integration Services).
At that point is fails with the error of:
A recently applied update, KB913090, failed to install.
This is a dialog box that I hit the "send error report" button. It then goes to the upgrading of the Client Components (CC) and fails with the same error message of:
A recently applied update, KB913090, failed to install.
The ugrade the continues after I hit the same "send error report"button.
ALL of the other steps complete with SUCESSFULLY. Only the SSIS and Client Components show a failed status in the Installation Prog
In the Installation Complete screen, I can highlight both the SSIS and CC and see an additional error of:
Unable to install Windows Installer MSP file
I then can hit the View Log button (which I have done for the SSIS step) and see the error log but I am having a tough time making heads or tails of it.
I have attached the output from the SSIS error log below.
I have a couple of questions:
1. Is the install of SP1 good for all the other steps that completed successfully
2. Has anyone had issues with installing SP1 on a Windows 2003 R2 server? I have installed SP1 on other Windows 2003 servers NOT running R2 and it ran like a champ.

I get and error when installing MS SQL 2005 on Windows 2003 server with SP2. It bombs at the very end of the install and Microsoft notification program generated he message below to be sent to Microsoft. Please help. I have problem connecting to a SQL 2000 server that is hosted on a Windows 2003 server. My application uses classic ASP with VB6 components. VB6 components connect to SQL server and return data to ASP application. Everything was working fine when the application and SQL server was hosted on NT machine. Recently we have shifted to Windows 2003 server. Since then we could not establish connection to SQL2000.
I'm using UDL as connection string. IIS and SQL2000 hosted on the same machine with Windows 2003 OS. This seems to be a security issue. Earlier I faced this issue for a .net application which I resloved adding a domain account to both SQL server and IIS directory security. Request your input to solve this problem.
I've installed Windows 2003 SP2 in a stand-alone cluster (will be adding a second node later). I'm now installing SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition 64-bit extended and would like to have the "Create a SQL Server Failover Cluster" box to not be grayed out. Even when I check the "SQL Server Database Services" box, it still has the cluster box grayed out.
If SQL Server Setup fails, Setup will roll back the installation but may not remove all .manifest files. The workaround is to rename the files and then rerun Setup. For more information, see How to: Work Around COM+ Check Failure in SQL Server Setup.
I am developing a windows application that needs to communicate with a remote SQL server 2005 database. Server allows remote connections and MSDTC service also running. Do I need to run MSDTC service on the client machine where I use desktop application ? any ideas ? It's throwing some error like An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections.
But my SQL Server allows remote connection, and I am able to do a select statement. But when I insert/update anything, it's throwing this error. I guess some problem with MSDCT. Anybody have any idea ?

So when i tried the setup locally with the live DB & application in my test machine... The DB access is denied when application tries to hit the DB.

i have recently started to work with the analysis services and i am having some problems.
i have made a web application that for now just tries to connect to an analysis server.
The server is installed on an xp sp 2 system.
for testing, i used my local computer, which is running also win xp sp2. After deploying, the application can connect to the AS server on the other machine. the problem occurs when i try to deploy the applicatuion on the production server, which is running win 2k3 server on 32 bit. When deploying, i use the same connection string, so it should try to connect to the AS server installed on a win xp sp2 system.
The first thing that came to my mind was to check the MDAC versions, be cause of the message: "Provider cannot be found. It may not be properly installed."

on the win2k3 server, the MDAC version is : MDAC 2.8 SP2.... i thought it was the version of the service pack, so o searched for the update of MDAC 2.8 SP1, trying to install mdac 2.8 sp2 to see if i was to see the same error, but i found that mdac 2.8 sp2 is only for win2k3 server, and for win xp is mdac 2.8 sp1, according to this link: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/884103
Now i got confused and have no clues how to make this work...

But when tring to install windows installer 3.1 is displays the message Service Pack version of newer than the update that you are applying, Ther is no need to install the update. Why?
Hi, I am having a problem connecting my .net applications from the application server to the database server. When I run the application from my windows xp (sp2) box it works fine. When I try to connect via SQL Management Studio to the database server from the application server I get the same error. Here is the error: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) Here is the Environment: App Server: Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition Inside Company's Firewall/ Network Database Server: Windows Server 2000 Advanced Edition SQL Server 2000 SP4 Remote Connections to the Server is checked Enable Protocols: Named Pipes & TCP/IP TCP/IP Port: 1402 (I don't know why it isn't the default of 1433) The db server is sitting out side the Company's firewall (don't ask me why). I can access it fine from inside the firewall on my XP box but not from windows server 2003. There is a web server outside the our network that also connects to the db server with no problem and that is running Windows Server 2003 Web Edition. I can ping the db server from the app server using the IP address. I tried using the IP address and the port 1402 in my connection string but that didn't work from any machine (XP and Server). I imagine the issue is somehow related to the company's firewall but why would it only block Windows Server 2003 and not XP? What do I tell the network admin to change? Any help would be appreciated. I need a hand here, referring to this knowledge base on Microsoft (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q283811) i applied this knowledge base, and it worked, the MSSQL and SQLSERVERAGENT have run under local non admin account.
But after i installed SP1, MSSQL service is ok, but SQLSERVERAGENT wont run. The warning message is : "Some service run and then stop if they have no work to do."
Is there any way i can install SP1 but in the same time run SQLSERVERAGENT under local non admin account?
we try to install an SQL 2005 server on a Windows 2003 server that is also a Domain controller. In discussions of july last year, Dan Jones said :"Unfortunately in setup you cannot change the default account for all services. So there is absolutely no work around for this problem. This will absolutely be fixed by RTM - "

I've been having no luck trying to install SQL 2k 32bit on Windows 2003 64bit x86 SP1 - I've found several articles regarding needing to put SP4 on the 64bit OS, but my problem is the SQL 2k 32bit ",,x86setupsetupsql" won't run.
I consistantly receive a "...(localuserdir)Local.ins. Unable to load installaion instructions. Error 703."
And of course, the SP4 setup won't run because there is not an existing SQL Service to upgrade.
Is it possible to create a new user into Windows 2003 users table (not Sql) through a sql 2005 query ?

We have purchased Windows 2003 Small Business Edition Premium.
Our company uses Analysis Manager / Analysis Services and also MDX functions. However Release2 only appears to have SQL 2005 Workgroup edition with it and these features do not seem to be present.
Does anybody know how I upgrade to get these functions? I don’t know if these functions can be downloaded or whether we have to upgrade by purchasing SQL Server Standard 2005 edition outright?
