Installing Sql 6.5 Client On 2000 Machine
Mar 26, 2001i am trying to install SQL 6.5 client on 2000 box. but the installation wants to install an SQL 6.5 SERVER on it. Is there something im forgetting?
is there a way and if so how? if not, is there a workaround with out upgrading the sql 6.5 server.

Problems Installing Client Tools And BOL
Jul 26, 2006I have tried several times to install SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition on a cluster. SQL Server, SQL browser and SQL Agent installs ok but when the installer start to setup Books on line and client tools (BIDS) and SS Management Studio the installer stops and end the installation.

I have recently installed a copy of SQL server 2005 on to a windows 2003 server. During the install I selected to install the client tools (management studio and all that) all seemed to install ok no errors but after the install there is no management studio in the start menu. I have tried uninstalling the client tools and reinstalling them again I have also tried to launch management studio by browsing to the SqlWb.exe but the program fails to initialise any ideas?
(both SQL and Windows are at SP2)

When you've got in your workstation both Sql2k and Sql25k clients and try to install the package for design dts 2000 from Sql25k then you'll not be able to re-start your Enterprise Manager from
MMC.

I'm trying to re-install SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine andSQL Server client tools. I have succesfully re-installed the desktop engine,but I am getting the following error message when attempting to re-install theclient tools.
"Setup has detected an existing client tools only installation.
Please use the maintenance mode to add client components"
Unfortunately the Upgrade/Add/Remove option is greyed out as
an install option.
I attempted the registry hive rebuild option and the install appeared
to succeed. However, I cannot access any tools (Enterprise Manager
comes up with the message "The selected file cannot be found").
At this point, the desktop engine appears in Add/Remove programs
Window, but no other SQL Server components.
Any help very much appreciated!

We're deploying an app. using a MSSQL Server 2005 (Std. Ed.).
In order to install an ODBC driver for the DB, we've made the installation of Sqlncli.msi part of the package.
It will not run - unless user has Admin priv.s on the klient PC targeted.
Does any one have any experience w. other ways of installing the sql native client (like MDAC) - og just an idea about circumventing the Admin rights problem?

Jul 5, 2006I am trying to install the client tools for management purposes only on a IBM T42 laptop which meets all the hardware and software requirements listed on MS support including the HCL list, the Readme, the forums and MSDN but the install still shows the following log messages when the install fails.
AdminMessage = Setup requires user to be in the administrator group in order to continue the installation process. Setup is aborting as the current user is not in the administrator group.
(I am an adminsistrator on this machine)
Property(S): SupportedOSMessage = Installation of this product failed because it is not supported on this operating system. For information on supported configurations, see the product documentation.
Property(S): SupportedProcTypeMessage = This Microsoft SQL Server Native Client package is not supported on the current processor type.
Any help would be appreciated.

SQL Server 2000 Requires Explicit Declaration Of Data Types In Client App After Installing A Certain HotFix
Jun 15, 2004I think I may have figured out the solution to my recent conundrum with SQL Server 2000 that had me stressed and depressed over the last couple of days. In a nutshell, after a HotFix was installed on a SQL2K database server I have space on, I was unable to perform INSERT or UPDATE queries on database table of type TEXT, when trying to either create or modify records with more than 4,000 characters of data. While it was frustrating as heck, it seemed too rigid to be random, so I did some snooping.
The HotFix was intended to solve a known problem of not being able to run UPDATEs against TEXT fields, but in so doing, caused another headache entirely: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=839523
Apparently this is a semi-known problem, in that a certain HotFix forces SQL Server 2000 to be a lot more stringent in requiring explicit declaration of data types and data lengths for parameters in stored procedure. In my client code, I was initially using the overloaded constructor of the SqlParameter object that took as arguments only the parameter name and a value, without specifying a value from the SQLDBType enumeration or length of the parameter (which in my case, needs to be TEXT and 16 (or 2147483647), respectively):
System.Data.SqlDataAdapter.InsertCommand.Parameters.Add(new SqlParameter("@parameterName",parameterValue);
It appears that after the HotFix is installed, if the client doesn’t syntactically set the type and length of data for a parameter, SQL Server and/or .NET will default to a type of NVARCHAR, which has the 4,000-character limit. This all makes sense. I’m going to now need to modify the code to straight out declare what’s going in the SPROC:

We€™ve got almost 250 old dts packages which simply loading data into Sql tables from plain files or at the reverse point. Most of them are defined with fixed fields and its fixed positions one after one. We don€™t want to migrate them using Import wizard, on the contrary we€™re producing them from the beggining taking advantatge of SSIS architecture to the full.
And now, we€™re trying to imagine how to migrate automatically that valuable info from Sql Server 2000 to Sql Server 2005 without efforts€¦ You know, any program be able to move that detailed info
to SSIS.
So we would avoid to select again all these positions per each file -very tedious and we're lazy
I don€™t see how except, of course, migrate them directly
Let me know if you need further explanations or more clarity on that.

The setup works fine on other box with the same config : SQL 2000/Windows XP, is there any work around for this issue ?
In my SQL 2000 client network utilty "Force proctocol encryption " is desabled and did not find the setting for SQL 2005 !

When I recently went through a rebuild of my cluster, I forgot to install the resource before installing SQL Server. Now, if I install and bring online the MSDTC resource the SQL disk groups will not fail over correctly. The SQL Server resource will not come online.

I have a 64 bit "SQL NATIVE CLIENT" connection that fails. The exact same connection and code succeeds on 32 bit.
My customer and I prepend "oledb:" to the connection string and it starts working.

Aug 31, 2007Hi all, Im new here so il start with a little introduction of myself, My name is Arjan im 19 years old from Holland, and i work for a company to compleet my ICT Education.
My situation:
My boss gave me a server with server 2003 standard and Sql server 2005 and visual studio 2005 installed already, he asked me if i could figure out how the 'new' reporting services work, Im pretty new to SQL and the reporting service but i figured out i had to install asp.net / frameworks and IIS.
So right now i wanna start the Reporting Services Configuration Manager and i get an error that says 'Invalid namespace' and when im trying to approach by using my browser i get 'page not found' so obviously their is Alot wrong. I asked my boss if i could not reinstall everything and do it in the correct order (IIS / ASP.net / Frameworks before installing SQL server 2k5 but that was not an option because we dont seem to have the cd's anymore.
The server is not connected to any network or the internet.
My Question:

Installing SQL Server Standard Edition 2005 After Installing SQL Server Express 2005

I have installed SQL Server Express 2005 on my machine.
I want to install SQL Server Standard Edition 2005 on my machine to check new services it has.
Can these 2 Editions coexist with each other, or any troubles you think might encounter?

One of my user is accessing 65 database. she is having 65 client on her work station. SO , she is able to access 65 thru her application. So today i just installed 70 client without removing 65.
SUddenly the front end application is not working either 65 or 70.
It is givng
Application defined error or object defined error.
Pls tell me how to handle the interfacing applications.
Pls suggest me regarding this.
