Integration Services :: BCP Format File Date Type Conversion?
Sep 11, 2015
I've a text file which having a datetime column value like YYYY-MM-DD-HH.MM.SS.XXXXXX. I cannot convert this is to datetime format from text file using BCP utility.Â
Presence of hypen "-" between DD and HH, the SQL server does not accept this is as Datetime.
Is there any option to covert the date value in format file in BCP.

Step 2:
Replace function

Step 3:
Replace Function
REPLACE(ATL,"/","-"0
Step 4:
Replace funtion
REPLACE(REPLACE(ATL, "AM",":00"),"PM",":00"
Step 5: this is where the error occurs
(DT_DBTIMESTAMP)ATL
Step 6:
Load into OLE DB Destination File

I am trying to upload data from CSV to Sql table. I have a column as 'arrived_date' value '13:45' etc and while trying to load data i am getting error as "data conversion failed ,truncation may occur while loading data". In flat file connection this column datatype is string but in my table datatype is as time(). There is a error with conversion. I tried to change data type in advanced editor but no use. Using data conversion after flatfile makes my error disappear but it is giving error right at the file not even going through from file?

=Format(Fields!EmpHireDate.Value,"dd/MM/yyyy")
=Cdate(Fields!EmpHireDate.Value)
Error:[rsRuntimeErrorInExpression] The Value expression for the textrun ‘EmpHireDate.Paragraphs[0].TextRuns[0]’ contains an error: Conversion from string "20041023  " to type 'Date' is not valid.

As part of my package, i require a date (Only date, not DateTime) which is 10 months previous to get date.Eg: for today if the package executes, then i want 12/1/2014 , which i will use in my package as a filter like 'where date='?' where ? is a paramter which is is derived from the above logic
So, I have a project parameter @ppdate with value as  -10. I create a variable with DateTime (because there is NO date type for SSIS) and gives the expression as below
dateadd("Month",@ppdate, DATEADD("D",-(DAY(GETDATE()))+1,GETDATE())) , I am getting '7/1/2011 11:33:38 AM' which i don't want - i want only '12/1/2014'. How can i get it?
To get '12/01/2014', Â If i change the variable from DateTime to string, then i think i cant use the value in the filter condition like ''where date='?' because this does not accept string. Is this correct?

Is there a recommended file format (csv, xml, txt) when choosing a file destination for SSIS? Does a file format impact the performance in terms of loading? Let's say i have chosen to use a .csv as my file destination (this has 15million rows and 50 columns with 2 bigint and the rest binary(32)) Â and later on, i would need to reload them back to table using SSIS. Is using csv faster than e.g. xml when reloading? Does it have performance impact at all?

I have a foreach loop that is processing all .xls files then moving them to a processed directory.Problem is that when I try to open the original file which is in .xls 97-2003 format, it's giving me a file error that SSIS could not read. Â Found out the problem was called Extension Hardening. Â I fixed it in the registry according to a website I found and I thought about writing a Batch file or Script to handle it, however SSIS still can't read unless I open and "save-as" to another format. Â It even works if I still save it in 97-2003 format just has to be a different file.How can I open and resave the files (all excel files in directory through a loop) and rename them the same?
For example:
Original file named "ABCDEFG_08_15_2015.xls"
Can I loop through all files in the directory and name each one differently say "REVISED_ABCDEFG_08_15_2015.xls" so I can read them through SSIS?I think I need a @filename variable or something for that..

I am looking for a way to load the SQL server table where the source xml file format is not fixed.
It has to dynamically check for the attributes and load into a SQL Server table with changing source xml file format.
The levels of the attribute can change in side the xml tags, the C# code has to parse the file get the attribute name and load the associated value.

I have a ssis package where I need to have excel destination. Â In the Excel file, I need to have few rows with some text and then populate data below the text. One the text is like this:
Data as of: Â 08/25/2015
if the report ran today, then Data as of will have Yesterday. So, if the user opens that excel file after a week, then user should see same  Data as of:  08/25/2015. not today()-day(1).
I was planing to handle on excel side with today()-day(1). but it only works the day it was run. Then the excel file is open after few days later, then it might as Data as of:  08/30/2015 which is not true. It should still stay Data as of:
 08/25/2015 on what ever date the excel file is open. The SSIS package  runs only once.Â
How do I handle this so that whenever user open the file, they will see Data as of:  08/25/2015. This is not a column in excel. It is like a description of data in excel.

I created a simple SSIS package that takes a Flat File Source (CSV file) and Imports it into a OLE DB Destination ([TestCSVImport].dbo.Table1). I have other CSV files I'd like to import, but I don't want to import entries where column "ordereID" (PK) are the equal. Just want to import the new data found in the CSV files. I tried adding a Lookup in-between the Flat File Source and the OLE DB Destination, but I'm not sure how to accomplish only importing new data.

Hi,
I have a question regarding the date format.
In product table, we have 'received date' and 'sales date' and the following is the format:
'2007-02-06 00:00:00.000'
I want to convert this format to week like : 'W 50 -2007'
And the following is the syntax :
Code Block
SELECT 'W'+' ' + convert(varchar(2),d.week_number)+ '/'+ convert(varchar(4),d.year_number)
FROM Product p
INNER JOIN Date d on d.full_date = p.received_date
I can get the right result but is there any function to convert date to week so that I can avoid to use join to date dimension?
Any kinds of advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

We have a Job  that calls a SSIS package 2005 that does some processing and execute a BAT file.  This Job is being called by a web application.The BAT file creates a folder and named it based on the current date ( YYYY_MM) e.g 2015_07
echo %date:~10,4%_%date:~4,2%
md %date:~10,4%_%date:~4,2%
pause
exit 0
It was working okay in the SQL Agent 2005 server until we moved  to the new server SQL Agent 2012 using the same package SSIS package 2005. Now the issue is, instead of creating the folder based on YYYY_MM, it's now being created as YYYY_DD.I've checked the Regional settings of both server and they have the same "ENGLISH (United States) format. I even ran the code below and they're returning the same output echo %date:~ 10,4%_% date :~4,2%
I know the BAT file can be improved by not depending current locale in WINDOWS, but I just want to understand how this issue occurs and how does the regional setting being overridden?

Dear Expert!
A server with SQL 2005 sp2, Reporting Services and Sharepoint services (ver 3.0) (in integrated mode) gives an odd error. When viewing a Reporting Services report with a Date Time Picker, the date chosen is wrong. The preferred setting is Danish with the date format dd-mm-yyyy. The date picker shows the months in Danish but when selecting a date, and clicking on the Apply-button, the date reformats to US (mm-dd-yyyy).
Example:
When choosing 5th of September 2007 and clicking apply, it shows in the picker, 9th of May 2007.
When choosing 26th of September 2007 and clicking apply, it shows, again in US format, the RIGHT date but adds a timestamp €œ12:00 AM€? in the end, making further enquiries to fail.
The report itself receives the right date and shows correctly. The only case it fails is, when the time stamp appears.
The server is a 32-bit one with 4 GB RAM. A testserver with identical collation on the Reportserver database cannot recreate the error. The site containing the reports has been set to Danish in the regional settings. To Reinstall is not an option.
The test report has no database connection whatsoever.
When setting the site to US, the timestamp won€™t appear at all.
The server has been restarted and the installation procedure was of the simple kind. No special tweaks at all.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards
Johan Rastenberger

i am trying to convert a string like this 'le dd/mm/yyyy' into a datetime.I have removed the 'le ' part and used covert(datetime, 'dd/mm/yyyy',103) to convert into datetime. This works for example for 'le 22/11/1799' but for 'le 09/11/1716' it does not work.
select convert(datetime,RIGHT('le 22/11/1799', LEN('le 22/11/1799') - 3), 103) -> it works
select convert(datetime,RIGHT('le 09/11/1716', LEN('le 09/11/1716') - 3), 103) -> it does not work

Dear friends,
I am struggling to insert a date value in "dd-mm-yyyy" format to SQL server table having datatype as Date/Time.
Regional date setting for Server and Local systems are in dd-mm-yyyy format.
I am using following code
Dim DT As String
DT = Now()
DT = Format(DT, "MM/DD/YYYY")
for the inserting into table using command
ins_comm.CommandText = " INSERT INTO CARD (doe) values("& DT &")"
Procedure will end without any error ,but stored value for the date feild will be garbage value like 1900-01-01.
But if i used mm-dd-yyyy format ,it will get inserted.
What could be the reason,How I can save value in dd-mm-yyyy or dd-mm-yy format
Please help!!!

Hi,
Basically the above is a very common requirement, please comment on my solution which I've arrived at by searching through the web; -
In summary I have used 3 SSIS components these are "Flat File Source", "Derived Column" and "SQL Server Destination".
1) File Connections Manager Editor
1.1) Within File Connections Manager Editor; -
Name the data type e.g. "INTERCHANGE_NET_APP_DATE_SRC"
and assign a type to the data type e.g. string[DT_STR]
1.2) Click on the Preview button to ensure the expected text is assigned to the expected data type.
2) Derived Column Transformation Editor
2.1) Assign Derived Column Name, e.g.
INTERCHANGE_NET_APP_DATE
2.2) Select <add as new column> within Derived Column.
2.3) Enter the conversion Expression, e.g. ; -
2.3.1)
(SUBSTRING(INTERCHANGE_NET_APP_DATE_SRC,8,2) + "/" + SUBSTRING(INTERCHANGE_NET_APP_DATE_SRC,5,2) + "/" + SUBSTRING(INTERCHANGE_NET_APP_DATE_SRC,1,4))
2.3.2)
Since the above conversion is such a common task I suggest that Service Pack 3 of SQL Server 2005 delivers the following functionality; -
STRINGTODATE ('YYYYMMDD',INTERCHANGE_NET_APP_DATE_SRC)
2.4) Select "database timestamp [DT_DBTIMESTAMP] " as Data Type.
2.5) Within the Mappings tab of the SQL Destination Editor have; -
Input Column as INTERCHANGE_NET_APP_DATE and
Destination Column as INTERCHANGE_NET_APP_DATE.
Please comment on the above, I will then pass on my suggestion to Microsoft.
Thanks in advance,
Kieran.
