Integration Services :: Can't Import Excel 2013 Using SSMS Import Wizard (2008 R2)

Jul 29, 2015

I am trying to import an xlsx spreadsheet into a sql 2008 r2 database using the SSMS Import Wizard.  When pointed to the spreadsheet ("choose a data source")  the Import Wizard returns this error:

"The operation could not be completed" The Microsoft ACE.OLEDB.12.0 provider is not registered on the local machine (System.Data)

How can I address that issue? (e.g. Where is this provider and how do I install it?)

While importing data from Excel source , some column is getting null value even though excel column has value. To Resolve the issue we tried with

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREWow6432NodeMicrosoftOffice14.0Access Connectivity EngineEnginesExcel

1.Change the Value  of the Row TypeGuessRows from 8 (Default value) to 0  and ImportMixedType = text

• xls
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftJet4.0EnginesExcel

1.Change the Value  of the Row TypeGuessRows from 8 (Default value) to 0  and ImportMixedType = text

the connection string of the excel

UPPER(REVERSE(SUBSTRING( REVERSE(@[User::VarInputExcelFile]), 1, 5) ) ) == ".XLSX" ? "Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source=" + @[User::VarInputExcelFile] + ";Extended Properties="Excel 12.0;HDR=Yes;IMEX=1";":"Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data
Source=" + @[User::VarInputExcelFile] + ";Extended Properties="EXCEL 8.0;HDR=Yes;IMEX=1";"

by doing the above setting also , the column is coming as null from excel source even though there is data in excel.

Integration Services :: Import / Export Wizard Auto-generates All Columns As DATE

Feb 25, 2015

I'm trying to use the Import/Export Wizard as I used to, as a handy tool to figure out what a series of T-SQL statements (in an SSIS package) is doing - or, if I'm lucky, what on earth the original dev intended them to do.

Version: SQL 2014 64-bit running on Win 7 64-bit

The code is pretty dreadful:

SELECT DISTINCT on one set of column names,
join this set to another table but not on exactly the same set of column names,
embedded (SELECT MAX(bla) FROM SameTable WHERE [match to outer set on another set of columns] GROUP BY [hey, yet another set of columns!]) inside the SELECT column list...
and it all goes to a nasty #Tmp, which is then abused with further bad code further down.

Imp/Exp is always handy to quickly get the intermediate results into an auto-created real table, so I can figure out exactly what the effect of this is.  I use it to export from the database back to the same database, but to a persisted table.

This time (first time with SQL2014) it's not working.  The source is "write a query" (paste the actual query).  The destination I set to a new table.  The auto-generation of the new table creates every column as type date. Not surprisingly, this doesn't work, as the original data is mostly not of date time.

Integration Services :: Data Import From Excel Multiple Sheets With A Pattern Of Sheet Names

Aug 20, 2015

I have an excel file which contains lots of sheets. Some of them are named as DW-<day>-<month> (for e.g; DW-1-July). Like this I have sheets for the whole month. I have other sheets too with a different name. I would like to import data from these sheets only (DW ones). Upon my research I have found that this can be achieved via For Each Loop Container (I guess!).

Post data import, I have a set of T-SQL query that I plan to execute via Execute SQL Task.

SSIS Import Wizard Does Not Recognize The Excel Format

Sep 6, 2007

I have an Excel file(.xls) that I need to import to SQL Server database. I am trying to use the Import wizard. However, when I select the file and click next I get the warning "External table is not in the expected format.(Microsoft JET Database Engine)" . I opened the .xls file using a text editor. It looks like some html document.

SELECT * FROM OPENROWSET('Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0',

'Excel 8.0;Database=C:datamyexcelfile.xls', 'SELECT * FROM [Table1$]')

I get the following errors.

OLE DB provider "Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0" for linked server "(null)" returned message "External table is not in the expected format.".

Msg 7303, Level 16, State 1, Line 1

When I open the file and save it to overwrite the existing .xls file it works fine.

Is there a way to import such files using SSIS without having to open and save it?

Error Trying To Import MS Access 2003 Database Via SQL Server Import And Export Wizard - Too Many Sessions Already Active

Nov 29, 2006

I am trying to simplify a query given to me by one of my collegues written using the query designer of Access. Looking at the query there seem to be some syntax differences, so to see if this was the case I thought I would import the database to my SQL Server Developer edition.

I tried to start the wizard from within SQL Server Management Studio Express as shown in one of the articles on MSDN which did not work, but the manual method also suggested did work.

Trouble is that it gets most of the way through the import until it spews forth the following error messages:

- Prepare for Execute (Error)

There does not seem to be any method of specifying a number of sessions, so I don't see how to get round the problem.

Does anyone know how I can get the import to work?

SSIS Wizard Cannot Import Text Columns Longer Then 255 Using Excel Source

Nov 29, 2006

(Applies to SQLServer 2005 SP1)

We have found that using the SSIS "Import and Export Wizard" using the "Microsoft Excel" data source that there appears to be a maximum column length of 255 characters for any row.

Even when defining the destination table columns as nvarchar(4000), the wizard fails with the errors shown below.

We have found no workaround except manually changing the imput data. There doesn't appear to be any "Advanced" options for the Excel importer as there are for the flat-text importer. So, no question here, just posting the bug so that *next* time someone searches the web for an answer, this post comes up

MessagesError 0xc020901c: Data Flow Task: There was an error with output column "English String" (18) on output "Excel Source Output" (9). The column status returned was: "Text was truncated or one or more characters had no match in the target code page.". (SQL Server Import and Export Wizard) Error 0xc020902a: Data Flow Task: The "output column "English String" (18)" failed because truncation occurred, and the truncation row disposition on "output column "English String" (18)" specifies failure on truncation. (SQL Server Import and Export Wizard) Error 0xc0047021: Data Flow Task: Thread "WorkThread0" has exited with error code 0xC0047039. (SQL Server Import and Export Wizard)

edit: After searching further this is documented under "Excel Source"
in BOL which provides a registry-based workaround.  I guess the issue
is that the wizard considers truncation to be  a 'fail' case and
there's no easy way to override this behaviour, specify the column
types nor determine which line is in error)

Truncated text. When the driver determines that an Excel column contains
text data, the driver selects the data type (string or memo) based on the
longest value that it samples. If the driver does not discover any values longer
than 255 characters in the rows that it samples, it treats the column as a
255-character string column instead of a memo column. Therefore, values longer
than 255 characters may be truncated. To import data from a memo column without
truncation, you must make sure that the memo column in at least one of the
sampled rows contains a value longer than 255 characters, or you must increase
the number of rows sampled by the driver to include such a row. You can increase
the number of rows sampled by increasing the value of TypeGuessRows under
the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftJet4.0EnginesExcel registry
key.

Error Regarding File Import Through Import Wizard

Hi all,

(SQL Server Import and Export Wizard)

... doing the same import when logged on the server, hasn't been giving me any errors, how come. I can from my client without trouble import tables from other DB servers but when ever it is files it won't do it.

I tried as mentioned in other threads rerun setup to re-install SSIS, but as it was already installed it wouldn't re-install. My next move would be to make a clean install, but not sure it would help, as I think this is a buck.

best regards

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated as I am struggling to come to terms with 2005 and cannot migrate the 2000 DTS packages

Integration Services :: Load OR Import Files From Amazon S3

After that, you can use a OLE DB Destination to load the data to SQL Server database.

Installed both 32 and 64bit 9.03.  New connection Manager ADO.NET  - New then drop the provider down to ODBC.Dataprovider.Then what ?  Do I put the S3 bucket address within the use connection string ?  Is there and example ? Why do I need the PostgreSQL ODBC as Im not connecting to a database just a S3 Bucket?

File 2
This is header info.
This is header info.

ID,Name, DOB, etc…

The data starts with the column title row, ie ID,Name, DOB.What I need to happen is process that removes all the header rows up to the title row so that all import file structures will be the same.

I was thinking of using a ForEach Loop container that will run a script on each of the files to remove the header.

SSIS And SSMS Backup Wizard Integration Needed

Aug 15, 2006

I created a Backup plan using the SSMS Maintenance Wizard. It created an SSIS package for me but the package didn't delete files older than, say, 3 days. So I exported that package from MSDB, added a Script task to it (to do what I needed), and imported it back into MSDB. I can open the new package under SSMS and everything looked good ... until I double-clicked the Script task. That task is simply not supported under the SSMS Maintenance Wizard. Goin in and out of that task under SSMS gave me the following errors:

"Microsoft Visual Studio Macros: The operation could not be compelted. Call was rejected by callee.".

Or the ever popular "cannot show the editor for this task'.

I was asked to "Wait for Completion" or "Switch tasks or "Cancel".

It seems the only way to delete these files is to set up a seperate SSIS job that calls my Script task sometime after the nightly backup has completed. But now the completion of the Backup job and the file deletion processes are decoupled, which is not very good. Can you offer any ideas how to handle the gracefully? (The real problem is that the SSMS Maintenance wizard does not recognize the full set of SSIS tasks. It would be nice if double-clicking on the Maintenance plan pane opened up the SSIS editor but that's for a later day.)
